i love some things in life. One of the few little pleasures is comming to this site and seeing old guys like jimmy g-force, i love a few things about the guy

2. his description of the game is so well written and has so much passion, love it

I just played an exhibition match against ai(real madrid)using liveupdate squads
real madrid supposed to use 41212 with cr7 and asensio as strikers
during the match the ai sub in kovacic to replace asensio and I thought it was a stupid substitution since it would make kovacic play at front with cr7
then I noticed the ai changed to 41221 only cr7 playing as striker
it surprised me because I didn't think ai would change formation
I swear to god I didn't switch side and help them to do that, they were default formation from liveupdate
did anyone see this before?

you have just to set that, then when the fucking scripting system act did that.

but trust me, that is totally useless following their scripts

gave this game another go, cause I really want to get into it, wanted to create various formations, but I just can’t, the perfect AI backheels are a game breaker for me, at times it looks like the Harlem globetrotters stringing 2-3 perfect backheeels together, seen it happen a few times, if that gets fixed in the next patch il get into it

I just hope it happens soon because we are 2 months into a game with a 12 month life cycle and i still can't play the thing without wanting to tear my hair out

I have no problems with fouls. min 3 Fouls each game is enough for me in a 10 min game.
I have a problem with penalties. Never had a penalty against AI!

ManCity vs Everton for the 3rd match in the 18-19 season of the EPL. Everton fouled me 2 times just outside the box. Couldn't score from the free-kicks though. And then they fouled me near the sideline. 3 fouls in a non-derby game is good I guess.

PS: Manual Passing is a bitch!

We need penos . .can Konami deliver them though?. . .that's the worry. I think 6 or 7 fouls on average per game with penos would please a lot of us. We don't want too many fouls creating a stop start situation.
Yeah, there's quite a fine line between having enough fouls that it feels somewhat realistic and then over tuning the aggression and stopping the really nice flow of PES games.

I think we all just want to see variation (that ties in to the team's attributes), not A) NO FOULS, B) SOME FOULS or C) LOADS OF FOULS. Surely we don't want that.

My dream football game is one where you're playing an AI who are obviously playing aggressive football to try and stop you reaching their penalty box, and there's 20-odd fouls - and then the next game, you're playing a much better team and they purposefully stand off and only perform well-timed, no-foul tackles to keep the flow going.

I mean, put it like this. If I had five games in a row with 0-3 fouls, and then two with 6-10... Then those first five games wouldn't register as being "bugged".

But that variety - or at least, the scale of it - has long gone with the new engine. In-fact the only modern football game to represent it is Football Manager, and I love it but I'll never love it as much as I did PES.

I think the main reason for the lack of fouls/penalties is that they balance the game for online play...

In my experience online, there are only ever penalties given for "manual" tackles, be it slide tackles or the double tap A standing tackle, NEVER for holding RB+A sprint/pressure auto tackles, even if this auto tackle wipes someone out without getting the ball.

With high rated defenders you pretty much never need to use double tap A, because a combination of RB+A and super cancel will result in them making perfectly timed and executed tackles anyway. Nearly all my matches have less than 3 fouls, many having zero for either side.

If they made it so auto tackles gave many more fouls, I imagine lots of the tryhard online MyClub players who spend money would complain or ditch the game because defending would be "too hard" when they are conceding free kick and penalty goals every match for constantly clattering into players by sprinting at them.

That said, I'm kind of undecided whether to complain about the lack of fouls to Konami, or whether I even want them to patch it... Because free kicks are so trivially easy this year, seriously... Watch a Youtube tutorial and try them out in training mode, you will be postage stamp accurate 9/10 times from <26m no problem within like half an hour, even with mediocre FK takers, that's without mentioning the wide FK bug that is a 100% goal. If they just add more fouls with the current free kick mechanics, I think the game would be even more broken.

I haven't scored a free kick yet using manual . ..last years game free kicks were easy but this years. . . no way are they easy.

Manual/basic makes no difference to free kicks. I'm not kidding, follow this tutorial and just practice in free training for a while;

GK positioning is different in training (more central) so they'll save more there, but just practice being accurate to the top corner... It makes FKs basically just be free goals in matches, like everyone is Juninho... With more fouls and these same easy FKs I think it would make the game worse and more unbalanced in a different way.

Ideally you would have a realistic number of fouls and a FK system where you can actually mishit the ball sometimes (depending on player stats) now the only difference between players seems to be power and curve, not accuracy/consistency.

I can't even score in training lol. .although it could be the fact that I have it on Superstar. Thanks for the vid, I'll try some of the tips in it and see what happens.

fouls numbers and frequency of 2017 for me was ok , i would just that.
really a lot of contacts are not whistled ,like on a defender who anticipate with head the forward and then the forward ruin on the defender, last year was whistled every time. Also the advantage rules is poorly implemented, in the most of the case you loose the balls and the referee doesn't whistle. Again last year was better.

I love this place, and boy, over the years I’ve put some serious hours in with my posts and debates.

That is so nice to read, genuinely, much appreciated.

It’s great to see so many old names still posting here, a lot of great memories over the years, and superb debates over the game we all just can never get away from, no matter how much we age. And lord only knows how old Gerd is right now but I’m sure he’s still playing hard with his grand kids and staying strong.

And I’m 43 now and have played football video games since World Cup then Match Day on the ZX Spectrum, many, many moons ago.

Not sure if any of the old guard remember Emlyn Hughes Soccer back in the day ? but boy was that fun.

Thanks again Gom, and I’m back over the pond in 7 weeks, I’m taking my fiancé to New York for her birthday in December, can’t wait bro ;)

I’m so happy Konami have gone back to the old FK system, I hated the more recent system with the arcing on-screen trajectory lines.

Their old system was perfect across every level, and I wrote quite a large post years ago detailing exactly why. Why they changed something that was every bit as far away from broken is beyond me. But thankfully it’s back.

That video fails to mention the additional power of the strike created by pushing forward on the analogue stick during the run up, or X to dip the strike.

I’ve just been looking through some of my old PES videos on YouTube and came across these two maxed out R2 controlled shots.

Quite easily the best two goals I’ve ever scored on any PES, both instinctive and fully aware of the goalkeepers postioning, the magic of PES. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a goal scored on PES from inside your own half, let alone a scissor front-facing volley ...!! :O

Becks and Pele eat your hearts out....

You don’t need be be playing with an outfield player in this PES to add that touch of cheekiness to your game.

Here my keeper does a Babe Ruth ala the infamous called shot of the 1932 World Series.

He points to the direction he is going to dive, then follows it up, with an amazing save, pulling it out of the top corner.

I skipped the last few PES, only playing the demos briefly... And yeah that previous FK system was pure trash, totally unnecessary change, this year's one is much better, and the physics of them look great too.

I have been trying FKs in training mode for a while today and though that tutorial only covers the basics, using the tips it mentions (left footer from right side and vice versa) and some practice you can successfully get pretty much every free kick in shooting range over the wall and right into the top corner. The mechanics and physics are excellent... Just not enough error; I feel if they're going to patch in more fouls they need to also address the free-kick accuracy.

Great goals there Jimmy, I’m not sure what one is the best. Heh heh when you score a great goal it’s important to record every angle as you did in those vids.

Yes I remember Emlyn Hughes Soccer, I had it on the Commodore 64. I used to write down the goal scorers and everything... in fact I still do :P

And like you, i’m 43.

I will take your word on that as I’ve not had enough FK’s to test that theory. It would be a shame if they are too easy, because back in the day you had to get everything technique wise on the money to succeed. And the dead-ball specialist really did play their part.

I had my FK’s nailed down, using different players with different stance, styles and technique for whatever the scenario required. I loved that part of the game, it wasn’t one boot fits all, you really had to think who fancies what, and apply that player and his specialist style based on angle, range and preferred foot.
