PES 2018 PlayStation & Xbox Discussion Thread

Great goals there Jimmy, I’m not sure what one is the best. Heh heh when you score a great goal it’s important to record every angle as you did in those vids.

Yes I remember Emlyn Hughes Soccer, I had it on the Commodore 64. I used to write down the goal scorers and everything... in fact I still do :P

And like you, i’m 43.

So do I..!! :)

I wrote an ariticle on the history of football video games from day 1, our era, and it covers everything including all PES, not a bad read Geeeee, if you fancy a trip down memory lane. ;)

Only PES can deliver such moments as the ones Jimmy has been talking and, most importantly, showing.

I don't want to come off like I'm trying to degrade FIFA, because I really am not. But even the FIFA versions I loved very much (such as 08, 13 and 16) could never create those special moments that we've all experienced/witness and left us in awe since the 90s. Since long before PES was even called PES. Or... Winning Eleven.

I guess that's the reason why some of us are always here, no matter the flaws, no matter if the current version is the best or the worst or it's somewhere in the middle. We are all here for those 'PES moments'.

Those PES moments in the past were normally through stats and individuality. Back in the day Roberto Carlos would smash one from 40 yards on the sweet spot and it would be like wow..or a player you had bought in master league because of a certain stat like a free kick taker would score a crucial winner..now stats are out of the window..virtually any player can accurately score a worldie which just kills it when it happens. Proof is these people posting video of their goalies playing upfront dribbling round players and scoring half volleys against top class defenders..its just nonsense

While you are right that individuality should be much better,in real football there are plenty of examples of mediocre players scoring a world class goal.
About goalies dribbling and scoring like attackers i never felt that was the case in Pes. I'm curious, could you post a link to videos?

Erik Edman...

Career record of 4 goals in nearly 400 games for club and country, yet struck a goal like this...

Some other games have gone too far the other way in making 'poor' players pretty much incapable of striking the ball well with power. Lack of long range goals in lower leagues etc. The difference should mostly be in consistency, not capability.

I agree there should be more difference in this PES, but I have only scored one 'worldie' with a centre half in like 200 games so far...

I agree.
But it doesn't matter if I agree or not. You are trying to drag me into a turf I don't want to get it, because it was never the aim of my post.

I wanted to highlight what made us all fall in love with this game and those moments STILL HAPPEN. Whether it's more or less based upon stats than it used to be, they are still in the game.

I bet you can take any player from any game and do that, just play on a Mickey Mouse difficulty and you'll do it.
I've scored ridiculous goals on FIFA 18 on professional difficulty,or from some crappy fut video,so what's your point?
Someone posts a video? And that defines a game?

PES 2018?? Legend difficulty? Absolutely no...

Absolutely true.

There is something different about Pes. There always has been after all.

For how much this game can make me mad, fact is that I'd rather play Pes, pick a small team and say to myself "it's fine to get dominated, after all I'm playing Cagliari" and losing 4 games in a row but having those small moments of pure football delight that only Pes know how to, and can deliver, than playing Fifa and having a more balanced, but (at least this year until now) empty experience.

I know it can't be like this for everybody, and it shouldn't be an excuse for Konami to not do better, but that's the truth at for me personally. Pes "x factor" or whatever you want to call it almost always gets the best of me. I can't really find a logical reason for this. I guess even in a messy edition like this one I see a kind of "order" or "interlace" that I can't find in the other title.

I didn't mention fifa so not sure what that's got to do with it ..i have the game and what defines it and my opinion is playing for a month solid...the old pes games i could play all day every day and never get bored. This one a month was enough..shame as the beta was great ..its the single player modes that ruin it

Totally disagree about the lesser individuality in the more recent versions, in my opinion that is pure and utter poppycock.

You’re basically saying that the core fundemental of what Konami first introduced, and what originally set it apart from anything else has been dumbed down ? That’s crazy, and absolutely false. Individuality is PES, and your Roberto Carlos analogy has glaring holes.

Yes Roberto had a great left foot with great power and his unique FK run-up and strike, and back then it stood out even more so because the individuality wasn’t anywhere near what it is today.

PES 10 introduced the first real ‘First Touch’ and level of technique required from player to player. That was a revolution as it is one of the most important technical skills in the game of football for which everything follows.

Add over the years they increased player stats to enhance the individuality, then add the unique player traits and skills with or without the ball. Then add into the equation the player roles, Destroyer, Fox in the Box, Long Throw Specialists, etc etc, honestly, I could go on forever on this, but guess what, it’s all in the game to see.

well you mentioned a video, that's were your reference came from, and I answered that I could/would find a video from any game,FIFA included that really makes the game look horrible, and the nearest comparison would be FIFA in that case.
My point is,don't use a video as a reference, just like I wouldn't use for example that horrible video in the FIFA 18 video thread to judge that game?
Any one can post a shit video of just about anything right?
Question the agenda of the poster and the ones jerking to it,Is what I would do mate

Yeah, they would never do stuff like players all running with the same speed or something like that. I mean, player individuality has been great in the last few games, right?

With too much in-your-face 'individuality' you get gamebreaking stuff like PES6 Adriano... The way modern PES does it, while not perfect, at least means you have to play it as a team game.

And if you think in PES 2018 that Marco Verratti feels the same and controls the ball the same as Glenn Whelan... You are crazy.

I’ve been on cheeky chip shot mission of late, obviously missed a hell of a lot more than I’ve scored, but for me personally, it’s definitely my favourite type of goal in both real life and PES.

Striking a 30 yard pile-driver is always nice, but, getting your head down and putting your laces through it is all about the cleaness of the strike, if it ends up in the top corner, it’s not as if you meant it to go there.

Delicate chips, dinks and lobs are 100% meant, and much harder to pull off.

Cantona’s against Sunderland was as good as it gets. His standing non- celebration was as arrogant as the ridiculous technique it took to pull that off. Incredible vision, sublime technique and inch perfect precision. Genius.

I love this outside of the boot chip I scored last night, beautiful in every sense of the world.

I agree with you Madmac it's the main reason that I play Pes .. those magic pieces of play or near misses or even amazing 0-0 draws with great football played .. . It's very rare that I win anything in Pes but the wow moments do it for me even when the Ai performs something brilliant.

I think @hitmanuk has a point if i’m honest. I am not saying that individuality has gone completely but for me, and it’s an old argument, shooting and passing felt pretty much the same to me with whatever player i used in the few (yep i know only a few) games i played. Compared to older PES like 5, and 2008 PS2 (which i still play) where i can totally feel the difference between each player’s shooting and passing.

Yes in 2008 PS2 i do get those ‘Edman’ moments in the older games but they are rare like that ‘Edman’ goal was rare. And boy does it feel so satisfying when my defender bangs one in from long range especially when most of his shots are pants ;)

Sorry for jumping in but wanted to back up the @hitmanuk a bit ;)

I play with Middlesbrough in my ML, and playing with that team and say Manchester Utd is like absolutely night and day.

I can’t even believe I’m having to justify this.

I know, go play online with the worst team on the game against the Barca and Madrid whores and come back and tell me there is no difference.

Hey...hey...easy on the Whelan bashing mate;)

I’ve bought some jap player an AMF with most of the Player Passing Cards, and everything goes through him on Zero Pass Assistance, NOBODY on my team has anywhere near his accuracy and most importantly consistency.

Haven't played Pes in a few weeks, forgot how good it looks.
Even though it has to be "fake news..sad/photoshop" cause there's no way a Boro player can pull that of Jimmy?
Is it?

About individuality, I think truth stays in the middle. It's not as marked as it was in psx series, or Pes 5 and all his sons of that gen, it's true (and maybe better since from Pes 6 onwards fast/reactive playes were so op it was often disgusting), but strong teams and strong players still stands out more than enough imho, I've played Leagues with Real Madrid, with Juventus and Atletico Madrid but also with Cagliari, Verona or other smaller teams and if you are going to say to me that CR7, or Benzema, or Higuain, Pjanic or Griezmann feels the same as a random low Serie A player, honestly I'll just accept we are playing a different game.

Sorry Jimmy i’m talking stats not cards.
I totally agree that the cards make a difference just the stats not as much ;)

You're right Jimmy I bought Peneranda for my Brescia Ml team recently and he's different class to the rest of the players on the team.
