NBA 2K11 - G.O.A.T.

When its on it the opposition always have a chance to come back, when its off games play out more realistically and you won't be cursing the game/CPU because the BS moments are kept to a minimum.

scored 112 (!) points with Durant yesterday on All-star difficulty by simply placing him under the basket while the CPU defended my half with 4 men and using the following strategy: rebound > icon full-court pass > easy lay-up.

What's funny is that the CPU still managed to catch up to him at times and sometimes he'd just drift to the sidelines for no reason whatsoever to take a 3 pointer instead.

I did hit my trade button again, I'll admit Heat and Hawks interest seduced me, but only lasted one week

Then the trade request lasted 3 more games, resulting in me getting booed a lot :D

Anyway my result was the same as yours, the Suns, at first I thought oh noes, never gonna play over Steve Nash, but my game there improved a lot getting loads of minutes as 6th man, most as SG but scoring around 18 points every game, with 65-70 in shooting skills.
Mostly because the team movement is a lot better and Nash put me in easy shots almost every time, weather is layups or medium jump shots, I even manage to get around 3500SPs on a Lakers key game.
I got a feeling I wont want out at least for a couple of years.

Oh and this goes for tobi or someone who is familiar with the Suns:
Whats up with Suns mascot? What the hell is that supposed to be? Is it an animal? Cause I can't identify it :P
It does a pretty good 'worm' though.

I think its a gorila! heheheh

Anyway im playing as the 6th man too, actually in the last 2 games i had more minutes than evan Nash, mostly as a SG like u... my stats are beasting though:

PPG: 25.8
APG:6.2

Had my best game agasint the Heat yesterday scoring 41pts and 11 assists.. we crushed them 108-81, lebron went out injuried :D

so i'll get more realistic gameplay vs CPU if i turn clutch factor off?

thanks for the feedback ;)

Definitely, clutch factor is one of the things I always turn off the first in the game, look for the sliders, too. It makes a big difference.

That doesn't imply that, now and then, specially when playing abroad, the CPU has its "magic" moments. In those moments you really have to keep calm, and play conservative. Waste time, draw fouls, call timeouts, play your stars, don't get crazy and start producing turnovers, etc... I have to remember myself this again and again, though, because it's bloody easy to get frenzied.

That said, I've lost ALL the matches that got to a close situation. The CPU will ALWAYS score 3pointers in the last minute, as many as they need. If I'm 10 up, there's no worry, but being around 5 or less points up, they turn into incredible scoring machines and I feel powerless. A big fustrating issue in a marvellous game.

come on drek...DEFENSE! haha, i'm kidding...

but usually, when its a close game, i either let them score a two, or play super tight d to let no one shoot threes. OR if I'm up by let's say 5...i'd foul them to not let them have a chance to shoot that three. it slows the whole game down, but at least they won't be able to catch up (if i drain the fts)

I still keep clutch factor on, and yes it is frustrating when all of a sudden, the computer goes all insane in the late game situations, but in a sense, that's also what Kobe and those clutch player does. so I just count it as my poor defense which lost it. (I haven't tried clutch off, maybe i should and kobe might still go crazy)

Wanted to thank you guys.
I'm playing an association with Oklahoma Thunder and enjoying it immensely. What a good and enjoyable team. I've traded one of my older players for a certain Duhon and he is immense for me. He is not a first teamer, but my bench is very, very strong...

Just keep feeding Durant and the boys, gerd! Take into account that, when you arrive near the All-star game, your games may freeze after the first quarter. If that happens, you must simulate until All-star game.

The number of glitches and bugs of the game is staggering (even more than with Fifa), but the gameplay is so much better than any other game that I always find myself playing one match every night before going to bed.

ss4_goku, I refer to situations in which even if I do an impressive defense, they will score. And we're not talking about Kobe or Dirk. I would accept that. I'm talking about ANY shooting forward being able to sink a 3 pointer with 2 guys in his face, even from 8 meters away. In 2 situations, they had a throw in to someone who was completely alone in the 3 point line and scored! I can't defend that, in any way, as there's always someone left alone in this situations, you can't just marke them all by yourself.

I've even seen a 3 pointer from midfield with Gasol jumping just in front.

It's just like offensive rebounds, there's a great unfairness between you and the CPU or the big difference in fast breaks and contact driving to the rim. But, as I say, even with this the game is absolutely amazing and I'm enjoying it inmensely.

drekkard you would be even more pissed off with clutch factor in 'my player' mode.
I understand that the online ranks, and player development made them not allow us to use sliders or turn some options off, such as clutch factor. But it ruins the fun sometimes.

Some of your strategies don't even work, cause your team don't waste time even if you want too, and if you are not a PG, you can't hold the ball for too long, or you loose some serious points.

In the final momments is always the same thing, no matter what advantage you have. If you're loosing on the other hand, your team won't get on fire, you can give up the game cause they will pace up every attack, shooting with no big men for the rebound, giving bad passes, etc.

Yesterday for example I was having a perfect game against the Hornets, winning every quarter by 7-8 points, in the last quarter they putted me on bench, when I came back we were winning by 3, ridiculous.
Then my stupid team mates wasted every attack and would not pass me the ball, but surprise, the last 2 shots were on me, I made both but could not defend Thorton in the buzz, Hornets didnt even gave the ball to Paul on that last possesion.

Its like you're supposed to win those game by yourself, but is ridiculous since I'm a 57SP player. You gotta have a lot of patience to handle this mode, lucky for them I like this 'challenges' and I'm stuck on this mode.

Another thing, this makes you only care about scouts in the end, its 'my selfish player' mode, screw winning :P I'm giving lots of arrogant answers on the interviews to get in the mood.

oh...I think i see what you mean by the clutch factor then.

As for My Player, it is quite ridiculous if your team is winning because you have a great game, and then bench you in the 4th quarter so the other team can chase back or take the lead. Then its all on you to score and win. Thats why I've improved my clutch stats early on so that in such end-game situations I can also get that boost and score...so far its working quite well....

Hi all,
Below you will find notes for the upcoming NBA 2K11 v1.2 patch update. As you can see, we have worked hard to take fan feedback and make the "greatest sports game of this generation" (IGN) that much better. The update is slated to hit PlayStation 3, XBOX 360, and PC platforms over the next couple weeks. I will be updating this note as we secure official release dates for each platform (we may have an update on one platform very shortly) so please be on the lookout for these additions. Feel free to leave your feedback in the comments below and we'll do our best to answer them as quickly as possible. Thank you!

GENERAL GAME FEATURES
- Fixed a soft hang that would occur when loading an in-game save that was created during a timeout situation. This change also affects in-game saves created in the various game modes (Association, My Player, etc.). It addresses the My Player freeze issue that some of you have run into: http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272363.

- Fixed a hang on startup (when the game went to load files) that would happen when the user had a large number of saved files on the hard drive/storage device.

- The Cleveland Cavaliers court floor has been updated to reflect the design being used for the 2010-11 season.

- The ‘My Rookie of the Year’, ‘One for All’, and ‘Not Over Yet’ Achievements/Trophies should now properly unlock once the necessary conditions are met.

- Long socks should no longer appear visually corrupted during gameplay.

- Correct player signatures are now shown on Pressbooks that are uploaded to the 2K Sports server.

- The ‘Player Progression’ menu (Located in Features -> Living Rosters) should now properly work when new Living Roster updates are applied. Please delete the ‘Player Progression’ save file after the patch is released so the system can bring the file up-to-date.

GAMEPLAY
- Improved Shot Stick shot release timing and consistency across offline and online games.

- Fixed a rare hang that would occur when intentionally fouling the inbounder.

- Dunks will now branch into mid-air collisions, resulting in contact layups and changes in shots.

- Big men with low vertical ratings will now jump the appropriate height when rebounding and contesting shots.

- Addressed an exploit when using the Hopstep Dunk. Players will now branch to a contested shot animation when defenders are nearby.

- The ballhandler will no longer pick up his dribble when a ‘take charge’ attempt fails.

- Users are now able to execute the Crossover move when using the ‘Alternate A’ controller configuration.

- Added high trajectory shots when the shot is taken along the baseline. This will reduce/eliminate baseline shots that just hit off the side of the backboard.

- Addressed a playcalling issue where non-stars are getting a bulk of the plays run for them during specific situations.

- Queued pass/shot commands are now deleted when a fumbled catch occurs.

- Improvements have been made to the directional passing system with the end result being more accurate pass targeting.

- Tuned under-basket shots such that big players are no longer overpowered by smaller defenders, thus forcing a bad shot.

- Body-ups have been re-tuned such that good dribblers do not ‘lose’ during a mismatch or by taking good angles.

- Queuing a fake pass command when catching the ball will no longer result in a touch pass.

- Missed and inaccurate passes will now play at an appropriate rate when passing out of a shot or contact shot.

- Long range passes have been re-tuned to fix a gameplay exploit. Also, improved defender reactions on such passes so that they are properly contested.

- Users are no longer able to call a timeout when they are bobbling the ball.

- Improved AI logic for boxing out, ensuring that players go into boxout situations when appropriate.

- Players boxing out their opponent should no longer be called for Over the Back fouls.

- Tuned ‘Take Charge’ logic such that charges will now be properly called when the defender is set. This includes a fix for the pro-hop exploit where charges were not being called.

- Fixed an issue with player swapping during rolling inbounds; users will no longer be stuck controlling a player with the inability to switch players.

- AI defenders will no longer closely guard bad shooters far from the hoop when not necessary.

- Improved AI steal behavior and tuned the overall steal frequency/difficulty; defenders should now only attempt steals when they are actually looking at the ball.

- On the ‘Casual’ game style only, defenders are now slightly slower to react on passes, thus limiting the number of pass deflections.

PRESENTATION
- Fixed a long hang that would sometimes occur at the end of the highlight reel between quarters.

- When an Arena Music event is triggered, it will now randomly select one of the available songs instead of always playing the first song in the list.

- Addressed a few minor audio issues including instances where the commentators would call a few players by the wrong name, instances where a commentary line would cut out mid-sentence, instances where the commentary would refer to a missed shot as a made shot, and clean-up in the Doris Burke analysis during playoff situations.

- The commentators will now tell Coach ‘stories’ during gameplay. These stories tie-in with the Player/Team stories for an increased presentation experience.

- Users are now able to button through lengthy substitution overlays and get right back to gameplay.

- Fixed a very rare hang that would happen during the Player of the Game segment at the end of the game.

- Fixed an occurrence where the incorrect portrait was displayed for a created/generated player.

- Users are no longer able to substitute in injured/fouled out players during Crew games.

- Opponents can no longer see Pick and Roll and Play Calling icons during online games.

- Addressed a game disconnect issue when one user would call a timeout, quit out of the game, and attempt to start another game.

ASSOCIATION
- Addressed a hang that would occur in the transition between the 1st and 2nd quarters in the weeks leading up to the All-Star break.

- Injured players will no longer lose their Player Role due to an injury, which ultimately led to may unhappy players around the league.

- Fixed an issue that caused a decrease in trading activity in future years. This same issue also resulted in valued free agents not signing during the free agency time period of the offseason.

- Home court advantage (for simulated games) has been toned down during the regular season, and even more so during the playoffs (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Participating in Intra-Squad Scrimmages will no longer disable Intentional Fouls during regular NBA games.

- Addressed an issue where trade values would drop to 1-star when a Weekly Practice was scheduled.

- Fixed a bug where coaches would get fired continuously (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Users are now able to properly waive players in the Training Camp period of the offseason when there are more than 15 players signed to the team.

- Existing NBA players should no longer have their signature animations changed at the end of every season based on their skill progression/regression (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Fixed an issue where generated players would be created with the award history of a player currently in the Hall of Fame (this fix also applies to My Player mode).

- Addressed a number of other smaller issues within the mode (better CPU logic when accepting/declining Team Options, undrafted rookies should no longer sign larger than expected contracts, etc.).

MY PLAYER
(A number of issues that also affect My Player mode were listed above in the Association section. Those issues were noted as such.)

- PlayVision art is now drawn on the floor when the CPU calls a play, easily enabling the user to follow the action on the court.

That's what I call a patch, and not what other sports games do nowadays....

I'll hope for it to be released and then try to play online again. By thew ay, will I have to start from scratch my Association? It would hurt a lot if I had to...

I don't think the CPU has ever called a play when I'm not playing PG, the patch is out now on PS3, downloading.

EDIT: The arena music is working properly now but their implementation still sucks so I'm going to start to longgggg process of making tons of individual play lists for the specific player sounds, chants etc.

Great news, if only my PS3 wasn't faulty.

Tried the patch yesterday night, and I was totally stunned. They have turned what was an incredibly good game into a brutal masterpiece!

All the niggles I had with the game have gone away. As a result, things are much more balanced. Defending is a joy, as well as reobunding (how good and fair it is now, you can perfectly box out players!). Turnovers are great and you feel you can intercept passes if you anticipoate. Long passing effectiveness has been ridiculously reduced.

A lot more contact is done nearby the rim, so say goodbye to canned dunks. I had an average of only 3 dunks in my matches. As a result, a plethora of new animations arise in the game. I watched delightful layups and great offensive dirve-ins that I had not seen in my previous 40 matches. Quick player can now let their defender behind without constantly "bumping".

I managed to do great plays now and then in my Association, but now, with the patch, last night I managed to play great basketball all around. I'm absolutely amazed.

All in all, this game in its current state is a MUST-BUY for any sports lover. It's not only the best Bball game I've ever, played, it's probably the best sports game I've ever played and right now my GOTY, ahead of Heavy rain, RDR and others.

This game has gone to another level. Very impressed. Thumbs up to 2K for showing to the rest of companies how things are done. And specially to EA Sports, a kick in the balls. Comparing the Fifa 11 patch to the 2k11 patch is one of the most ashaming things I may have witnessed lately. The ammount of work 2k has put is staggering.

This game is truly the Greatest Of All Times.

^ Agreed, I can't stop playing this, my PES is catching some dust now I must seriously think if it worths getting a new game to sit there on the shelf.
I got the PS3 just for it and haven't regreted for one second.

Tested the patch some more and I got admit it is way more realistic now, defending and attacking seem more fair.
No more Fastbrakes everytime, though this is bad for my fast player :P
And yes the AI is calling all the plays now, this make much more easy to give assists, but I feel theres one bad thing on that update, the shooting seems to depend of the time way more now. My Player has 87 for medium and I only made the perfect releasing shots, every late or early shot was terrible, not even getting height sometimes. I think because assists got easier they compensated the shots.
Maybe I still need to play some more to get my timming again, but if I was on the playoffs now I'd be mad.
Anyway assists and steals here I come :P oh and how defending is much more realistic now, its not easier or harder just fair.
I think we should not be scared for 2k12 cause with this patch they showed perfect can be improved.
