FIFA 17 News & Discussion Thread

A couple of months after FIFA 17 release, I am just wondering if people still think it a worthy upgrade from FIFA 16? Do Evoweb veterans here think the AI is better in 17? Are the response issues not a problem in a patched retail 17? These are my main concerns.

Of course I have tried the 17 demo (having only got access this week). But I am left unsure. Sure 17 looks a little nicer, but I play vs AI and local multiplayer, and the fact that you can't tweak the FIFA 17 demo sliders means I can't quite get a feel for it. On PC the mods for 16 are still fantastic.

http://kotaku.com/man-goes-on-trial-for-allegedly-stealing-millions-from-1788948231

This morning in Texas, defendant Anthony Clark will go on trial for conspiracy to commit wire fraud after allegedly working with three other hackers to mine FIFA coins from EA’s servers, then sell those coins to “black market” dealers in Europe and China. The FBI alleges that Clark and his co-defendants made between $15 and $18 million off this scheme.

You reap what you sow springs to mind, EA should never, ever have introduced a buy currency in their game, was the death of innovation in Fifa.

Me too. Coming today. Gonna use @Matt10 sliders - although I think he said that after the patch - came for PC last week - he has only needed to adjust pass speed to 48.

So far that's all that I've needed to adjust. It's a solid patch update. CPU is a lot more difficult, but it definitely varies. It's fun for FIFA, but is it realistic? That remains to be seen. Thanks for the mention :) .

There is so much more variation in attacking play in this FIFA. And the game feels slower to me than it did when I owned it before but that might be just because I accept the lighter, more floaty feeling now.

Shooting in FIFA 17 is sublime and scoring goals feels so much fun.

The official FIFA forums reckon this is easy in Legendary but I beg to differ. Played 3 league games, drawn two and lost one but that might be because I am getting used to it and playing as Swansea who have zero threat from an attacking perspective.

The game looks amazing on the PRO.
Only had time to get my controls and camera set up right then beat Utd 3-1 in the Cup game at the start.

Been out of action for a while after getting the Pro, came back to this yesterday (a friend has borrowed PES to see if he can get into it).

I managed a couple of games before turning it off. I can't get any joy out of it whatsoever, 80% because of the way that the AI magically keeps hold of the ball (the ball is glued to their feet and anything but a risky slide-tackle is a waste of time in what should be a simple block/stab-tackle situation)...

20% because every opposition player feels the same (someone made the great point a month or two ago - without comparing the games, PES gives players individual playing style cards and unique abilities beyond which tricks they can do, whereas FIFA is just attributes, and you can't expect the AI to pull off individuality when it's limited to "left midfielder who's crap at heading").

It makes me so angry, because otherwise, the game is spectacular, but because of this stuff, I find it a worse overall experience than the previous two games.

The physics are great, you're now punished a lot more for trying to pull off something you shouldn't be able to do, the career mode could be deeper but it's still good, the graphics are fantastic, the little touches you get in every league you play in all add to the experience exponentially.

But when I try to tackle the AI, and I get close, and they just shuffle the ball around like a Harlem Globetrotter... I just want to smash the controller against the wall, truly. It makes my blood boil.

The AI, and the difficulty levels, have been shit for years. You don't play a team, you play the difficulty level. Aston Villa are Barcelona on Legendary. It's been like this for years and it needs to change.

Hmm I just won 3 games in a row on Legendary as Swansea v Man City, Southampton and Liverpool.

Didn't concede a goal v Saints or Liverpool either.

Maybe there is truth in that this is easier on Legendary this year?

That's not true, FIFA has player traits, which are similar to the cards in PES.

Are they the traits listed here? FIFA 17 Traits

If so, I still don't think there's much scope there for the AI to work with - e.g. "crossing" just seems to be a boost to the crossing attribute rather than "crosses early" or "prefers to cross rather than pass", right? (Or wrong, I didn't know FIFA had these traits, which shows how little they actually mean!)

They seem to benefit the human player, rather than tell the AI how that player plays in real life. (Again, could be wrong, but all of the descriptions of "traits" I can find are on Be A Pro sites.)

More than anything, I just wish Legendary made a team play to the best of their ability, as opposed to turning into superstars.

Fifa has nailed graphics, presentation! It needs to just concentrate on player and team I'd and tactics for 2018 and we would have one hell of a game! And defending vs attacking , like Chris says is so unbalanced.....this is what's killing it for me!

Final Scotch Egghead, Yep I play Legendary in FIFA and have done since about FIFA 09 mate. Over the years its gone from being too easy to suss out the AI to really difficult (to the point people moan about cheating and scripting... PES anyone?)

I think I will give up on single player football gaming.

PES 2017's Master League is too limited. FIFA's is too easy.

It's probably because I suck, but I can't score for my life with Arsenal on CM. I barely get scored on either, but man I'm having a tough time putting chances away.
