WE9 - Post your complaints and disappointments here!

I didn't buy this game to play alone. I bought it to play with my friends, and all of you people who are talking about how the computer cheats: Play against a human player or come up with a revolution in AI that works with a PS2.

I want answers to how the "cheating" could be resolved?

"Play against a human player or come up with a revolution in AI that works with a PS2."

Seriously, that argument is so retarded it is just wrong, no point talking to people with this attitude.

No because there is none, the only thing we can do is suffer the cheating because konami dont know how to make a proper AI that is challenging.

Ok Caniggia, sorry, at first i thought your question was rhetorical.

1. There are speeds stats. Let them be reflected in all aspects of the game. Including going for loose balls. And if Henry gets through the defence, they don't catch him. Period.

2. Make the response time the same for computer controlled opponents as computer controlled teammates. They're not, no one can convince me they are.

3. Bring back the different team strategies from the last game. I'm remember when WE8 came out Seabass was so proud of hte fact that playing Arsenal wasn't like playing Real Madrid (not those teams specifically, but you get the idea) but now its like every team, regardless of formation or personnel, load the box and then have a midfielder run like crazy until he can open a through pass down the lines (which he will do, as your computer controlled FB will move to allow him) and then they cross it in. That's seriously 95% of the attacks. And you can't tckle the midfielder without a foul.

4. Fix the damn biased ref. okay it was kind of cute, yes it makes it more challenging, but now I don't even get mad at the bias, I just kind of sigh and wish for improvements.

5. Keep the AI consistent! It seems to get better in some areas, worse in others. For example, when your midfielder plays a ball to your striker down the wing, they could run into the middle and be open for a goal, but instead they usually stop, turn around and run to their position. I'll conceed maybe its a PS2 limitation, but I think that the number of scripts running is the same, they just don't think so much about the scripts.

6. Don't force me to swithc players! Its been complained about for years now, how hard would it to not automatically switch? The setting nis called Manual ffs!

There are a few suggestions. I don't think they'd be hard to implement, mroe just tweaking the system. My theory is that Konami spent a long time playing multi player in the testing process, and forgot to try out the single player mode. Or else they must have noticed its really unbalanced!

Well said beachryan, yea make the stats actually count, as it stands it doesnt matter if your speed is 99 or 5, also give our GK a set of eyes so he can actually save something, and give the ref a pair aswell so he can see proper fouls and not the walking into them crap.

I am sure if they can code this game then they can atleast code these, making a fair game isnt too much to ask for.

The game is too defensive... i am not a big fan of the game right now.... i have also noticed that cpu switchin of players is somewhat slow .

...... i am not lovin this game in anywhere.... arsenal sucks in the game. it is so hard to score a clean cut goal.... shots that would normally go in as goal in pes4 is now saveed by the goalie... and going a few inches wide....

I dont kno why some players have speed n acceleration at 99 if they cant out run or pace.... a defender wit 60s or 70s on both stats,..... i am still waiting on the official ratings... from online magazine on the game.... so then i will just kno i suck at it or that the game is actually bad,.....

Same here, Sulph! Makes you wonder if these guys are really playing the same game we are!?!??
i dont know, i havent played we9 yet. But in pes4 i had the same problem, even when you set it to manual the cpu still auto switch for you, escpecially at critical moments in the game. For ex when you about to intercept a ball the cpu switch your player away......

mmmmm a lot of complaints i see.
Can someone tell me if there is difference in header stats? Because in pes4 i find them pretty useless. For example Ronaldo has in pes4 around 60(maybe even less?) stats for heading, but ingame he is an excellent header, almost a specialist since with ronaldo you can win most of the head duels and also he can score alot with his head......isnt that unrealistic?

I find that loose ball is almost at a 50/50 now, remember you got to position players with R2 otherwise kiss the loose ball good bye, same goes for winning airborne headers.

Positioning has taken a deep dive for the better ever since WE8, its very important you master it.

Couldn't agree with you more.

A lot of what 'Seabass' said in some of the interviews months ago are actually there. One of them is 'players will be "baka" (stupid)..player will need to position themselves manualy for everything...'

Those ppl here who say, fast players can be caught are nor correct. Its the acceleraton that has changed. In prev version ur palyer immediately gets to top speed. Now takes quite a few strides to get up to speed. Making use of change of pace, is very significant in this version. A slight pause, in R1/R2 and the continuing on, can throw a defender off.

Try it mates, give the game time. If it really doesn't do it for you, just go back to WE8 then. There's a lot of subtle changes in the way you play that has to be re-learnt.

Cheers,

PS: Ppl, have been over-critical of the auto-sidestep. Initially when I played it was happening all the time. As each day progresses, it happens less, and less now and usually mostly when I actually want it to.

What does that say? IMO its our playing style that needs to adapt slightly as well.

Time will tell.

I read this whole thread now and to my amazment i saw people complaining about goalkeepers being hopeless and other people complaining about goalkeepers saving balls that in PES4 they would have gone in.

I saw people complaining about defensive being hopeless too and people saying how much the defence have improved !

I saw people complaining about speed issues and others saying that its very realistic now !

How is this possible ???????????

Are you guys playing all the same game ?

Or all those complains are due to the fact that the game now has many parts were you have to relearn and less automatic.

Anyway I must say I saw many more people praising the game than people complaining on these forums and the people praising always seem to praise the same parts of the game and unlike those complaining they dont contradict each other or say things totally opposite to each other.

This almost feels like a beta of WE9:We finally get it right evolution.

LOL- Like the name. Should e-mail Nokami :)

1. R2 Shot - Good idea, nice shots, but you can no longer use shots without R2. Volleys are particularly impossible. I used to love in WE8:LE seeing a rebound come out towards my OMF, he stands, pivots and slams an attempt at least near goal. not so in 9.

I though so too, but actually its not so mate, You can use shots without R2. Problem is, the :square: is touchy. Spend some time in free training, you'll get it down.Volleys, are so much better, mo variation on the volleying styles. Although some might appear a bit scripted, theyre in there.

2. More interceptions/deflections - Again, good idea, feels less game-like if players always stick out a leg and get a touch on the ball. But deflections are almost exclusively picked up by the CPU, because your players don't react as quickly, or switching to the right one makes them briefly pause. Plus, scoring from within the box is virtually impossible, even if you appear to be past the defender, he still somehow manages to deflect your shot out. Again, it could be good if it was realistic, but its not.

Not so mate, you got to move ppl to the ball more. Offensively I get on to many deflections, but defensively, I have to agree with you. Maybe theres a bias towards the attacking team. Anyway, we need to play with the formations more.IMO Konami messed up the default settings a lot (too manu arrows).

beachryan said:
3. In WE8:LE the through balls were a bit too accurate - Well I didn't really think so, but this must have been the logic behind Konami's decision to virtually eliminate their usefullness. They are basically just pass to opposing keeper buttons if used in the last third. Even players withteh passing and playmakers stars don't know how to weight a through ball. I guess they're trying to convince me to use the manual pass system...

Lofted thru balls with backspin. Now that was what I loved about the PES/WE seried to fate. To get it over the top and have your strike latch on to it and bring it under control on the run. A well palced one needed only a touch, and you could do a half vooley. Sweeeeet.

Now Konami really f++ked this up. Now it has a flatter trajectory, and no backspin so it skips forward more. Normal thru balls aren't too bad. In fact all crosses now have flatter trajectory, unless you use R2/L1 modifiers. I'm still experimenting on trying to get the feel for the new thru pass. Maybe it needs a different touch or something. But 1-2 passes are so much better now.

Cheers

my biggest complaints are the lack of advantage the ref plays. on WE9 it is hardly ever. the offside rule is applied wrong as the flag only suppose to stay down if the player is not involved in the play.

it can be annoying thinking you are through then once you touch the ball the ref blows his whistle.

WE9 is a superb game though. no doubts about it.

That's the 'new' FIFA rule, mate.

I love WE9  PEs4 and We8Le is a bugusinggame. There so many bugs, that every noobplayer can use them.

Here a few PEs4 /We8LE Bugs

1. Ronaldo and Owen Bug...and other fast player with huge balance.Take ronaldo and run with him..this make every noobplayer...who cant play football!
2. Lobbug: Square + R1 and the ball is in the goal (PES4)
3. Foulbug: every tackle is a cauten or a yellow card..(PES4)
4. Dribblebug..when you want you can dribble and hold the ball 15 minutes
5. Counterattack bug: with a unrealisic formation like 5-1-1-3 or 4-1 DMF-2OMF-3 Stricker. The only way to win is to play counter..because the gameplayspeed is very unrealistic (fast)
.
.
.
and so on.

Konami remove all this bugs and some people cant use it in we9..that is one reason why they dont like this game. The must play realistic but they cant, because they are bugsuser ;)

You got a point there mate. There's a whole new learning curve in WE9.
FYI there are already a few 'money shot' moves in WE9, that 'robots' will use online in future.

When WE8:LE came out, I was one of those here who bitched a lot about it. Passing difficult, crossing impossible, headers difficult, freekicks impossible. About 3mths in, after dedicated playtime, found that WE8:LE was so good. (he.he although I still insist FK are way too difficult).

Game has been out only for a week now. Now, IMO, thats really not enough time for a concrete opinion, unless most of us can put in 3-5 hrs of quality time daily.

I have also posted a lot of complaints here so far, but I'm hoping in a few weeks my rants will be proved wrong as I get deeper into the game.

We are all 'passionate' about the game. And when people are passionate bout something, at times we can get over critical.

All said, this is a forum, so keep it coming.

.

I definitely agree about free kicks in WE8LE... that was the only game I didn't get a hang of freekicks, even near the end when I stopped playing it... I mastered free kicks in all WE versions but 8LE was the only exception.

Konami definitely made a GREAT change in WE9 by making the freekicks not only much easier (no more "super goalies who will stop even the most perfect FK's... I've scored many in WE9 already), but more frequent. The CPU defenders seem to be aggressive and if you keep possession around for a bit, they do foul you near the area quite often.

I love almost everything about WE9 for now. My only gripe is the CPU defense sitting WAY too back in their box, but many other WE versions had this problem as well (they seem to put it back in every other version -_-; ).

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but when defending corner kicks, I can't seem to be able to change to the player I want most of the time. The player is in a very good position to defend the corner but when I press :l1: the game just changes to the player that is either at the post or near the edge of the box, not the on in the middle where the ball is supposed to be heading. In previous versions, this didn't seem to happen to me.

negatives:
pinball effect in game still exists when two player collide in a challenge.
players still play out of position/don't follow tactical commands. fancy a LSB go to the middle of the pitch near the box.
alot of the animations are so shockingly pathetic and plain shite that it's not even worth laughing at.

I hate how easy it is to miss open goals. For example, I'm running down the wing in a counter attack and theres only one defender and a striker in the box. So I triple tap circle to cross along the ground which reaches my striker facing an open goal to tap into. I very lightly tap square and he blasts it over or very wide.
WHY!?!?
Its supposed to be so easy that a blind man could have scored.

played WE9 for good few hours last night and the shooting bar is way too sensitive. the amount of shots that go over the bar is so annoying. i thought the shooting in WE8:LE was great and didnt need fixing.

Also why is that you can go though 1 on 1 with the keeper but the CPU manage to push you in the back and stop your progress more times than not. no yellow card given.

When going down the wing and crossing the ball. i can have Cisse free as a bird and ready to score but he just stands there doing his own thing.

Why Konami, Why??

Alright, well I've laid out my complaints. Now I'm off to play one more season and see if I can't learn to love it. I wonder if part of the problem is that I'm playing with some weaker players (Fletcher/Richardson/Rossi/Pique/Jones) trying to develop them. Although I've found just as mayn problems with friendlies I've tried in match mode, though not as much CPU aid.

Its good to see ClassicD and other respected members voicing differeing opinions, hoepfully they'll be listened to a bit more than some of us who don't post as often. For all those that love the game so much, instead of dismissing as those with complaints as stupid/inexperienced/stuck on WE8, maybe try to play a little single player, look for what we're talking about, and then decide. Because I'd like to think the more pressue we put on Konami to change, they would. Ha. Just kidding ;)

well after my initial review i have to say im loving the gameplay improvements. Like all the previous games it takes awhile to get used and once you do youll start to love it( im only still getting used to it). Every year the same comments are posted that this is rubbish/pathetic/ect and initially they can be when used to the previous version. But after a week/month youll see how much organic the gameplay is and how much more you have to use real skills in the game (the speed difference when trying to go past someone is a good example; slow down to let the defender get near you and then dash forward and youll be in the clear( reminds me of owen))

But my main gripe is still the empty stadiums ( even in the bigger ones you can see it alot at the corners and at anfield/old trafford ect it really is weak)

Nobody is denying there are many good things in the game. I can list loads of good moments of play.

But that does not negate the fact that there are some horrific elements which surface all too often. That, I'm afraid, undoes all the good things.

When a beautiful passage of build up play is finished off by your stiker running in quicksand so that he can be caught up and pushed over by a cpu defender (no penalty, of course), then the good passage of play is rendered useless.

I don't judge this game on how good it can be, but on how bad it can be and how frequently it is bad, as ultimately, it's the bad bits that have the final say in how satisying a game is to play. And the bad bits in WE9 are very bad and occur far too frequently. Poor game.

Chill Winston.

Do you judge all WE games on how bad they can be? If so, this is the best of the bunch - I think you'll find that quick "sand problem" you mentioned was even worse in WE8LE.

Sorry my mistake, this is a complaints thread, let me see...

Hardly any cards shown (can't remember the last time I saw a sending off) when free-kicks are awarded.

CPU defends way too deep

And....... Sorry I'll have to get back you. ;)_

And is it just me, or has number of PK's increased DRAMATICALLY? I'm getting one every other game, and at times, it's the only way I can score. I don't mind refs calling it of course, but there seem to be a bit too many at times.

Love the new PK motions, though... motions 4 and 5 looks waaaay more realistic than the default one (but for some reason, only some Korean players have these motions by default)

I dont get that many PKs? if you are playing against a noob friend then maybe, like the ones that hold down R1 + X + [] the whole game to defend.

Sigh.
