Video: HD-DVD exclusives converted to Blu-ray, playable on PS3
Tags: Sony Consumers have pretty much always been the most affected party in a format war. With each format having its own share of exclusives, those who have picked one over the other have become left out of what the other has to offer.
There's some good news for Blu-ray supporters, though. Someone who goes by the handle of ps3videohelp has posted a video on Metacafe that supposedly works as a guide on how to convert HD-DVD content to Blu-ray without any re-encoding or loss of quality.
The content can then be burned onto a Blu-ray disc or multiple DVDs. Converted HD-DVDs can also reportedly be played using the Sony PlayStation 3 home video game console.
Anyway, you can check out the video below. Be warned, though: the quality's a bit on the low side, so you may have to be a little creative in trying to ascertain what the guide says.
Will a Blu Ray movie look any good (or just like a normal DVD) on a SDTV?
No he watched Blu Ray on a SDTV and it was worse than DVD on a RGB Scart I reckon.
Blu-ray sweeps Europe, winning 4-to-1 against HD-DVD
Sales figures of Blu-ray movies in Europe have slowly been on a steady rise. Just recently, the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) announced that their disc format's sales has surpassed HD-DVD titles by a 4-to-1 ratio... which means, for every HD-DVD title sold, four other Blu-ray titles are purchased. This announcement also comes with the revelation of stand alone Blu-ray players also catching up to the HD-DVD players in sales.
The current sales figures of Blu-ray movies has now made other independent movie studios to join the Blu-ray bandwagon as well. For example, Germany's Universum Film and UK's EiV have decided to release Blu-ray titles for the coming holidays. Incidentally, even Studio Canal from France, who we previously heard to be supporting the HD-DVD format over Blu-ray, will now also be cashing in for the Blu-ray party this Christmas.
BDA's Frank Simonis proclaims:
According to market analyst, GfK, the gap between Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD players is closing despite the earlier introduction of the HD DVD format. This is following the trend in the USA where BD has already overtaken HD DVD despite their US$ 299 price tag. Clearly, consumers are voting with their wallets.
Thats fine Tobi, just dont think it's a so called format war that will end soon. Sony dont always get it right, remember Betamax, MiniDisc, both were shockers.
