In my eyes it doesn't tarnish Zidane's legacy. Sure, what Zidane did was an act of pure lunacy, but every player has some quirk or oddity throughtout their career, or some kind of an embarassing moment. One example being Cantona's kung fu kick. It adds that extra bit of character, I mean he's human after all.
 
We still only have one's word against another and that will never change. Doesn't anyone have anything better to do?

Look... Italy was not winning the match with Zidane and didn't win it wihtout Zidane. At least until the penalties, where Trezenogoal missed his shoot when all the 5 italians scored.

Wait, wait, wait!!! Why? Zidane it has obtained the red card in the second half of extra time on the result of 1-1 and not to the beginning of the game. With "if" and "but", I can say that the my grandmother if she had wheels would be an car. The gesture from expulsion has made it, also Totti to the Euro 2004 was provoked nevertheless nobody has criticized its just disqualification.

I disagree. Words can have a much stronger impact then physical pain. Go ask anyone who is being bullied on work or school. The effects linger on for a much longer time then physical pain like this agressive headbutt.
Things like this arent black and white so it also depends on when u say something and how u say something.

I mean, and this is also the reason why many can symphatize with Zidane i think, Materazzi was a happy duck just a minute after he got physically assaulted, while Zidane was crying in the dressing room feeling the direct punishment of the lack of a respectfull goodbye, no world cup and dissapointing his team/nation and the people/children who look up to him. All of wich could have been prevented in the first place by Materazzi just holding in those few words(arguable: it takes alot less willpower or selfdiscipline then to control yourselve when something has exploded within u). Zidane is allready punished enough for his deed while Materazzi enjoys being a world champion.

It proberly comes down to this: we can all agree the headbutt was an extremely harsh thing to do, an act of pure violent. Such a thing doesnt belong on a football pitch or anywhere else. But even more so we agree that(some more then the next person) it is such a pitty. Such a pitty a great man like Zidane who meant or means so much to our football-heart ends his career in this tragic way.

We feel that someone needs to be blaimed, but maybe instead we should do like Zidane and just accept it. See the matter in a deterministic way. Maybe, like many things, its a good thing in disguice, and you may find this a crazy thing to say, but possibly the waves of this shock make the (football)world more concious of where the sport is heading and that we all must strive to keep violence and cheating out of the game.

Zidane was what? the best player of what? Zidane made 2 good games in the tournament: the Brazil game and the final. How does that compare with the performances of Buffon, Cannavaro and Co.?

Cannavaro was a giant on all games, Buffon the same, and there were also other players that, if you are voting only based in 2 games would also deserve the prize.

If Zidane wasn't Zidane but another less proeminent and legendary player having the same games he had that player wouldn't make it to the top 3 in the votes.

I respect your opinion but to me, verbal insults are only effective against the weak minded like ZZ. Remember Aragones & Henry? Racist words did not provoke Henry into violent behaviour. His reply (Stand Up, Speak Up) was class. Again words = not solid, cant break ribs, wont give you bruises. Cranium = solid, hard, will break your ribs if impact is strong. Think about it. No one has ever been convicted of assault because of maternal/sibling insults. On the other hand, if you touch someone with any sort of forcefullness, you're an assaillant.
 
Its a joke what Zidane did imo.

All Materazzi did was call his mum and sister. Omg that aint shit compared to what abuse you get matches. Like someone pointed out the rival fans consistantly sing out abuse, you cant just jump into the stand and start fighting them.

When you're on the street and someone calls you or your fam, then fine. But at a WC final its unforgivable. It was something that was said to provoke, and something that would of been forgotten about after the final whistle. Whats said on the pitch stays on the pitch.

You see it all the time in matches. When the match kicks off its war. You do everything you can to win. When the final whistle goes everyones friends again. Zidane was a fool to react.
 
right, this is getting too stupid already. there's no excuse for zidane and his stupid reaction, verbal abuse is something that you have to live with as a football player. of course there are times in someones life when your mind isn't clear and you can flip and it's understandable, but not excusable. materazzi should get no suspension from this.

it's an isolated incident that doesn't make zidane any worse or materazzi any smarter. zidane is still and will be legend and materazzi is still and will be the worst piece of shit there is in football. just accept that for that one second the roles got inverted and live with it.
 
Materazzi should also be banned for 2 games and/or fined for such dumb act

Surely Materazzi is known in Italy for being a pure son of a bitch. He always tries to break leg, make evil fouls and hurt the opponenet.
He often insults player and trainers (Galeone, and old and expert italian trainer, once said he never saw such a big idiot on a soccer field).
Once he punched Cirillo with a ring making him bleeding so much.
Cirillo went in front of TV cameras showing the broken lip. Half Italy was shocked and Materazzi couldn' t play for about 3 months

i wasn't talking about this thread. when i said "this is getting too stupid" it was rather about the situation, not the thread. i was refering to the the conference where he said "he said this about my mom, sis, etc", the media debates on what materazzi said, the "lip reading specialists" stuff and all that crap.

and yes, if i feel there's no point in discussing a thread i stfu. but i also stfu if i see a sentence like the one in my other post too.
