CL Matchday 3: Betis held by Chelsea
Real Betis and Chelsea fought out a tense 1:1 draw in Spain
tonight. The Blues had gone ahead through a Drogba scissor-kick
after a spell of sustained pressure.
Betis dominated the 2nd half and equalized through D'Allesandro
but failed to win inspite of Forlan hitting the post.
Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3:1 in the other match.

CL Matchday 4: Betis brush aside Barca
Betis took a significant stride in Group B by beating Barcelona
2:0 at home. Goals by Forlan and Cavenaghi took the Andalucian
side to the top of the table on 8 pts. Chelsea are now second
on 7 pts tied with Barca, after beating Aston Villa 2:1.

Manager Mathejo told the press:
"I'm delighted with the result. The Chelsea match was difficult,
but against Barca we showed some good football and deservedly
won. If we win our next match against Aston Villa, then we will
qualify for the Knockout stages as long as Chelsea-Barcelona is
not a draw."

Mallorca stun Betis in Copa-del-Rey
Betis lost at home to Mallorca 1:2 in the Q-Final 1st leg.
The home side were leading 1:0, but then two defensive blunders
allowed Mallorca to steal the advantage.

Winter break
Mathejo said:
"The players will take a well-earned rest.
We are still challenging for all 3 competitions.
We are currently 2nd in La Liga, on same pts with leaders Real Madrid.
And doing well in the CL.
The Copa del rey will be difficult, because we need a 2:0 win at Mallorca,
and they are our bogey team in this cup, having knocked us out two
seasons ago.
On the transfer news, we will be looking for 1-2 players and maybe
trim down our squad."

CL Matchday 5: Betis held by Villa
Real Betis dropped vital points in a frustrating 1:1 draw
at home to Aston Villa. Milan Baros gave the visitors a shock
lead, but Kuijt equalized. Both teams missed good chances to win.
Chelsea lead the group on 10 pts after a 4:3 win at Barcelona.

CL Matchday 6: Betis and Chelsea qualify
Betis drew 2:2 at Chelsea to allow both teams to qualify for
the quarter-finals. Diego Forlan scored two in 10 minutes,
but Chelsea stormed back before half-time through Joe Cole
and Gudjohnsen. Betis could have won the game but had to hang
on with 10 men after Heitinga was sent off.

Manager Mathejo told the press:
"It was nerve-wracking sitting on the bench. We knew a draw
was enough as long as Barca did not win by 3 goals.
In the end Barca could not win, and we qualified.
Our performance was good, but Chelsea are a great team.
We did well to match them."

Quarter-Final Draw:
AC Milan v Betis
Real Madrid v Chelsea
Inter v Valencia
Bayern v Man United

Manager Mathejo's reaction:
"We've drawn possibly the best team in Europe.
Of course, we would like to have met them later on.
But you have to meet the best teams if you want to win
the tournament.
It will be two fantastic games. The first match is at
San Siro, which suits us fine.
All the pressure is on Milan. We're not easy to beat."

CL Q-Finals 1st leg Results
AC Milan 0:0 Betis
Real Madrid 0:0 Chelsea
Inter 1:1 Valencia
Bayern 1:3 Man Utd

Betis and Milan fire blanks in 1st leg.
AC Milan drew 0:0 at home in the 1st leg against Real Betis
in a tense encounter. Betis had the better chances to win
the match with Forlan wasting 3 one-one opportunities.
Gattuso and Gerrard came closest to scoring for Milan.

Manager Mathejo spoke to the media:
"I think it's a good result. We tried to hit them hard
on the counter-attack and maybe some nervousness can
explain why Diego missed 3 clear chances.
We were hoping for the away goal, but in the end we're happy
not to have conceded.
Now we need to win at home, hopefully we will be more confident
and decisive."

AC Milan coach Ancelotti reacted to the press:
"Milan have the advantage, it is better to draw 0:0 at home.
Betis are a good counter-attacking team. But at their home
ground, we will be counter-attacking. Sheva will be in the line-up
this time. I think we will score in Betis. It will be difficult
for them."

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI FINAL LEG 1 RESULTS
Arsenal 1:0 Real Madrid
Juventus 2:0 Barcelona

HENRY DRAW FIRST BLOOD

Henry's brace 5mins during the run of play was enough to secure arsenal a victory on a night of all attacking football from both sides. This victory means they maintain their unbeaten run in the champions league this season and also extend their run of unbeaten home games to 11.The game lived up to the hype as both sides went on all attack strategy.. real madrid dominated possession throughout the match, but werent able to convert with raul and ronaldo firing blanks on the night and with some excellent saves from Lehman enabled arsenal to come out on top.

Arsenal's manager, Mmeny had this to say during his press conference.
" I think both side came out determining to win this game. You couldnt tell which team was at home or away. The team showed a lot of character out there by holding on to the lead,as real madrid kept on coming at us. I would accept this result anyday and anytime, if u can come out there and play your hearts out against such a quality side and come out with a victory. I believe the game lived up to the hype and the fans got their money's worth. We would enjoy this victory for now"[/FONT].
On the contrary, Real Madrid's coach, Luxemburgo had this to say .
" I thought we played very well away from home today and should at least go home with a tie but we lacked the cutting edge.I feel very positive and confident that we can overturn the 1: 0 deficit.I think they (arsenal) played very good attacking football and their goalkeeper was outstanding today, but i like our chances at home".

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI FINAL 2ND LEG RESULTS
Arsenal 0:0 Real Madrid
Juventus 2:4 Barcelona

ARSENAL CRUISE INTO FINALS AFTER STALEMATE.
The goalless draw at the Bernabeu met arsenal returned to the finals in style to defend its title.Real madrid lacked the fire power in offense to overturn the 1 goal deficit at home to halt the gunners from making a successive final return in back to back seasons to defend its title.

Real madrid's coach Luxemburgo couldnt hide his disgust by missing out on the finals and coming out on the losing end at the semi final stages once again. " This has just been our nemesis all seasons.. winning vitals games...the build up play is very good but we just run out of ideas in the final third.." i am proud of my players, they gave it their all to the final whistle". We just got to pick ourselves up and end the season on a high note.i am pretty sure we would make it pass the semi final at some points.I guess the only consolation is we lost to a very good side today.

Thierry Henry the team captain had this to say after the game. "It is such a great feeling to be back in the finals again. There was so much pressure on us coming into the bernabeu today with a one goal lead, but we kept our composure didnt make any mistakes at the back. This is too good to be true.We in the finals of the fa cup, the champions league and one spot in the premiership league title. I cant believe it.It is not time to get over confident or complacent but the attitude in the dressing room is very high and we in a good position to have a treble season, it feels good.

CHELSEA CRASH TREBLE HOPES

Arsenals hopes of having a treble season was dashed by chelsea in the fa cup.Chelsea came from a goal down to beat arsenal by 3:2.

In a game which was tightly contested in the midfield as the likes of Gerrard and Gilberto having a go at each other, it was only right that tempers flared as there was constant shoving and pushing of each other whenever an infringement was spotted by the referee and a free kick was awarded.

Van Persie opened an account for the gunners but Gerrard header cancelled his score out and drogba showed some brilliance to score one of his double strike to give chelsea a lead. However it only took minutes as Reyes who was a constant treat this afternoon and has been all season sent a curling shot to the top left corner of the goal leaving Cudicini wrong footed.

On a night were chelsea were determined to play the spoilers as well have a silverware season came drogba in the 70mins with a thunderous header which lehman could only watch helplessly sail into the goal..

Arsenal come out on the losing end on this night but still in a good position to retain the premiership title and also have champions league finals coming up against barcelona to still have an outstanding and very successful season.

Mmeny.."I think tonight wasnt really our night.. we had chances but couldnt convert them when the score was tied at 2:2 and on this night this came back to hurt us. " We are little bit disappointed for falling short but would we be affected by this result, No.We still have the most prestigious trophy to defend and are in pole position to retain the league title. So for me this is a very successful season. So there is no pressure on us at this moment. I think Chelsea deserves the fa cup... they came out ready to win a silverware after going a goal down."

Milan shatters Betis dreams!!
Betis 1:1 AC Milan* (1:1 aggr)

Fernando 82'(pen)
Gilardino 90'

Milan_Inter_Japp_Stam_663951.jpg

Betis were just seconds away from a famous win, when Gilardino
equalized in injury time. Betis had dominated most of the game and were
denied by Dida on a few occasions. With 8 minutes to go and extra-time
looming, Mitea burst into the Milan box and was tripped up by Nesta.
The penalty was coolly slotted home by Fernando. Betis then slowed
down their game running down the clock. In the last minute from a Betis
corner, they started passing it back to the half-way line.
Ewerthon got into a tangle with Kaka, who quickly released Inzaghi down
the wing. He crossed to Sheva who headed into the path of Gilardino,
who beat the keeper.
Betis players sunk to their knees in despair as the final whistle
blew seconds later. Milan players were celebrating as if they had
won the tournament, they knew how close they were to an exit.

Manager Mathejo spoke to the press:
"Football can be so cruel. We did not deserve to go out.
We had the better of them. Once we took the lead, I thought it
was over. We kept the ball in the dying seconds, and were passing
it around the half-way line. That was a big mistake because Milan
had more players near our defence and once they got the ball,
they outnumbered us. My job is to lift our mood, because the boys are devastated tonight.
We should now focus on what will still be a fantastic season if
we can win La Liga. We are 6 pts clear with 9 games to go."
AC Milan's Ancelotti spoke to the press:
I told you we would score, but we left it so late, it was too tense.
Congratulations to our team. But also Betis, who outplayed us tonight and
maybe were the better team. But my team have great spirit. We never gave up
and our experience was the deciding factor in the end."

no, what happened was I had a corner and I passed it all the way
back to my defense. My SB and RW were passing the ball amongst
themselves on the halfway line.
Then my RW (Ewerthon) lost the ball to Kaka, and Milan quickly
counter-attacked, with a good move ending in a goal.
It was one of the very few times that the CPU scored a good goal.

Betis clinch La Liga Championship!!

5218815.jpg

FC Real Betis clinched the La Liga Title tonight after beating their
local rivals FC Sevilla 2:0.
A week ago, they had beaten their closest challengers Real Madrid
3:1 in a thrilling match.

Betis have 3 matches remaining this season, and have 22 wins, 3 draws
and 2 defeats out of 27 matches. They have the best defense in Europe
with just 12 goals conceded so far.

betis.jpg

Manager Mathejo was interviewed by the press:
"I'm proud of my team, they responded in such a superb manner
after the disappointment of the Champions league.
We won La Liga with 3 games to spare. Every single team member
did their job, and some of the players like Forlan, Mascherano,
Perea, Yeste did well.
I'm very happy with this team. They have great heart and talent.
I have a great strike partnership of Forlan-Cavenaghi who scored
a total of 26 goals out of our 42 so far.
Last season we won the UEFA cup, this year it was La Liga.
Next year we will focus on the Champions League and La Liga."

ARSENAL WIN WEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IN STYLE.

Arsenal join Ac milan as the only team to win the champions league title in two successive seasons by beating barcelona 2:1.In a mouth watering finals between arsenal and barcelona where ronaldinho and henry both cemented or prove are lethal they are in big games rose to the occassion with so finesse in attacker... Henry opened account for arsenal with a solo effort taking is tally to 8goals making him the highest goal scorer in the champions but for good combination betwenn ronaldinho and deco in setting up Iniesta to cancelled out the goal.

Arsenal couldnt be denied on this day, with Yeste in excellence form with another superb performance simply stole the show... He was too good for belletti to handle as he simply delivered a right on the money cross for lyunberg to thunderously volley home from 12 yards in the 80 minutes to seal the victory for arsenal.... as they went on to convincingly retain their title and claim thier place as one of the elite teams in europe.

Manager Mmeny spoke to the press: It is flattering to join ac milan in the history annals as one of the teams to win the champions league in back to back seasons and also record an unbeaten campaign in the champions league. This just shows the quality and hunger within the team to do move to greater heights. It was a tough game tonight and after losing Fa cup.. its only right we came out in a determined fashion to win and the boys showed that tonight. Now we need to go rap up things in the Premiership league with three games to go and 6 points clear.. we would like to rap it up in our next game and give the squad players some playing time in the next two games...... It is time to go celebrate...

Betis to face Arsenal and Real Madrid in Final Group stages
This year it will be Arsenal FC, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid
that stand in the way of Real Betis' dream to progress in the CL.

Manager Mathejo's reaction:
"It's the first time we are playing Arsenal. They have many dangerous
players and are very quick. We have to be careful against them.
But Betis are experienced at this level. We are confident of progressing
through this group. Both the Madrid teams are familiar to us, and we
have a great record against both teams.
We are glad to have avoided Italian teams at this stage."

Arsenal retain their premierhsip title with away victory in anfield.Henry's lone strike in the 90 minutes was enough to give arsenal victory in anfield. They now join manchester as the only premiership team to win the title in back to back seasons...thereby having a double season.... retaining both the champions league and premiership title.

Manager Mmeny at the press conference: I can't begin to tell what kind of season this has been for us.When we started the season in stuttering form alot of paudits wrote us off right at the very beginning saying we are not use to success, we dont have the team to retain the title and teams have now figured us out, but that only inspired us to do better. like i always said.... the boys have hunger, determination to success in the highest level you could see that tonight that we wanted to win this title with two games left to spare...

CL Matchday 1: Cavenaghi hits another treble to sink Atletico:
Betis 5:2 Atletico Madrid

Cavenaghi(3), Forlan, Joaquin :: Kezman(2)
Real Betis' striker Cavenaghi hit a 14-minute hattrick as Betis
went 3:0 up. Atletico struck back 2 goals to make it an exciting
match. But then Betis wrapped up the with 2 more goals.
Real Madrid beat Arsenal 2:1

CL Matchday 2: Betis humiliate the Galacticos:
Betis 6:0 Real Madrid

Forlan(2), Yeste, Cavenaghi, Rosales, Baros
Betis continued their explosive start to the CL by hitting 6
past a hapless Real Madrid side. Betis went 4 up at half-time
with some fantastic football. They could have added many more,
but in the end it was 6:0
Arsenal beat Atletico 2:1

Manager Mathejo's reaction:
"My team are showing that we are a force to reckon with
this year. We are experienced and hungry to win the CL.
The players want to make sure we top the group.
The number of goals is a bit of a surprise, but the main credit
goes to our fast counter-attacking game when we win the ball
in the midfield or defense.
Our next match is at Arsenal, and that will be a big test."
