The Fight Night Thread (for the original and yearly updates)

Apologies to my euro bros trying to get this game and go on-line. i think on-line is only for America. Apparently the disrespect the US gets with their outdated WE series from Konami is paralleled by the disrespect EA is giving y'all in Fight Night.

Can't we all just get along??

Placebo - thanks for that link. I am familiar with IGN. It was the first WE6 board I read . . and God is it awful when you compare it to the Caligula's Palace that is Evo Web! haha.

I hope something changes and you guys get on-line capabilities, too.

BTW - the previous versions had the Klitschko Bros. in it.

DSGG - glad to see there is someone out there who remembers the Morrison KO by Mercer. I thought he killed him when the barrage was over. You know of any sites with boxing videos and highlights?

Ahh - thanks Dannyboy. I needed a name to go with the face that I have been defiling in my dreams. :D

Placebo - thanks for the site - it's great stuff.

I"M ONLINE BITCHEZ!! Got my PS2 hooked up with a wireless router last night so I am primed for some fisticuffs when this game comes out.

If anyone plays Madden on-line my screen name is Dark Mojo.

Holler for some pain. ;)

That sucks, Placebo. Sorry to hear that. :x I really wanted to throw down with you, man.

Yup me too :(

I replied to Bill.....

Hi Bill,

I appreciate the response, can you please explain why it can't be played online in the UK? I don't understand why we get half a version of the game compared to North America?

Do PAL Madden, NBA, MVP, Nascar etc also lack online play? I feel that Europe is getting "shafted" by EA in this decision so I'm in two minds now as to whether or not I should buy it.

Does EA's new policy of only releasing sequels every 2 years apply to Fight Night as well? If online play will be in the next version I may consider waiting until then if it's only a year away.

Regards,

Paul.

And Bill replied an hour later which was rather incredible..........

Hi Paul.

I believe at this stage that setting up the framework required for Fight Night 2004 online is not considered viable in Europe. FN2004, Madden and NBA (MVP and Nascar were never released in the UK) are considered specialist-interest titles and the demand for online play just isn't high enough. This is down to the lower number of players in the UK and the fact that fewer of them are broadband subscribers.

I appreciate that this is frustating since you are clearly expressing an interest but I'm afraid until the demand is there, these titles will remain offline play only.

At this time I can't comment on whether there will be a Fight Night 2005 or whether it will support online play.

Best Regards,

Bill

That sucks donkey dick, dude. I am pissed off. When I reign supreme as Fight Night champion online, I want it to be the WORLD champion, not the American Champion, like the Super Bowl. ;)

So how is it you guys play other games online vs Americans? Obviously the PAL_NTSC thingy is not a problem, right?

Placebo, you think Sanders is gonna starch Kltischko, like he did his brother? I told my buddy to bet on an early KO by Sanders when he fought Wladimir, and he put some money down. Fucker made a killing off my advice! I aint seen a fekkin dime of it, either.

I'm thinking of laying some serious cash on Sanders winning by KO again. Know any good websites that can be trusted to watch my back?

Well I've refrained from delving into PS2 online before but I was going to because of Fight Night and PES4 so I don't know how the whole thing works.

I would love Sanders to win, I'm almost desperate for Sanders to win, mainly due to the way a whole bunch of ignorant Americans* (no offense intended) used the Vitali v Lewis fight as a way to completely disrespect Lewis and jump onto the Vitali bandwagon because there's a desperation (IMO) to have a non-British world champion, Lewis had his faults sure, he was overweight and under prepared against Vitali sure, but if Vitali was as great as they're now making out he would have done what Rahman did to Lewis. My head however says that Vitali will win, I think he's that bit younger, that bit more skilled and more importantly that bit hungrier.

I don't bet so I can't advise you of anywhere to put your money, could be worth asking the question on two excellent boxing forums that I frequent http://www.boxingscene.com/ (I believe I posted that link already with regard to fight downloads) and http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxing_forum/index.php (pretty cool forum, similar to this place in a way).

*Just for the record I'm not calling all Americans ignorant because 99% aren't, and I'm not calling all American boxing fans ignorant either, because again 99% aren't, just a small majority are ignorant Lewis haters and it irks me :)

No offense - most "fight fans" hate Lewis for not being Tyson, but Lewis is a smart guy. I used to hate him when he was coming up, cuz he was so obviously deficient in many areas. Never jabbed and took too many shots. Bruno basically had him ready to go, and so did Ruddock when both got caught.

But with Emanual Steward training him, Lennox learned to jab, use his defense, and win smart. I still think he was flawed in the same way that both Klitschkos are flawed: come at them with pressure and combinations and they will not respond properly. That is why I picked Sanders to beat Wlad, and think he will beat Vitali.

And despite the fact that Lewis dominated many of those who others could not (Holyfield, Briggs, Golota) and then disposed of the up'n'comers (Tua, Rahman2, Grant), he still was his own worst enemy when he didnt take fighters seriously.

Vitali is overrated in my opinion - he is technically flawed and awkward. Watch his body blows - he leavves his whole torso and face exposed. But he may be fighting the most awkward contender in Sanders. Sanders southpaw stance, forward lean and CRUSHING left are bound to give Vitali problems, dude. If he times it over Vitali's tendency to expose himself when he throws rights to the body, this shit will be over quick.

I got a strong feeling like I did in the last Sanders fight, when I told my boyz that it would end within 3 rounds, and that a left hand would end the fight.

Ricky Hatton is fighting on Saturday do u think he will make the game ;)

Ricky Hatton is a very flawed fighter but still great to watch. He reminds me of a young Arturro Gatti, cuz he keeps throwing punches and doesn't focus much on defense.

Showtime network showcases Hatton and a few fights from your side of the pond.

Oh, and the roster for the game is on the website, and as you might imagine, Ricky didnt make it. haha. Maybe next year.

there all a bunch of cocks*ckers ea that is i play just as many Englishmen as anyone else on xbox live i two was going too go online coz of fight night and pes4 but as this has happened and that a pes has been confirmed for the xbox and live enabled I will not bother my boll*cks as thay would say in the us thay have really dropped the ball here wa*kers I was soooooo looking forward too this :(

:x Aaaah FFS. I was so looking forward to watching Hatton against Pinto as he had an impressive record with 18 ko's in 20 fights. Guess it'll be some bum, although I love my boxing and will look forward to the fights anyway, I'm sure Gomez is also on the cards so see how he performs after ripping the title from Arthur.

I think Klitchko will win myself, although as Ghazi said Sanders comes out like a whirlwind. I still think Vitali will be too good for him, but you never know if one of those blockbusters whack him. The HW division has been woeful for a long time now, Lewis was a very good champion but the competition was poor, although he beat Tyson he was finished, I still feel both at the top of their form Tyson would've won.

fd1972 - I gotta agree with you on Tyson and Lewis.

Lewis will go down in history as the better fighter, but Tyson in his prime was a polished talent. He worked the jab to great effect despite his short stature, he was hard to hit cuz of his angled advances and weaving, and he threw combinations like a wily veteran.

Lewis has always had problems with active fighters, who dont stand in front of him. And Lewis reacts worse to an incoming fighter and combinations than any dominant heavy I have seen. I really think that a prime Tyson woulda tore up Lewis. You got a sense of what woulda happend if they met in their primes in the first round of their actual fight.

Tyson looked like he was waking up the Tyson of old. Weaving, popping shots, being active. But then he stood and offered nothing in the second round, like Frank Bruno and Lewis teed off on him.

The heavy situation is in disarray. The best heavy in the world is Ike Ibeabuchi, but he is in prison and is a nutcase. He KO'd Chris Byrd, He dominated Tua, and he had all the tools to rule the roost. He woulda cleaned out the division if he hadnt lost his mind. :l

my fave now is Byrd. i love the fact that a former middleweight can use his skills to make fools of men much bigger and stronger than him. There is a good reason that Lewis ran from him. He might have beat him, but it would have been ugly.

Dsgg - I feel your pain, dude. It sucks that this shit cannot be on-line. But when PS2's exclusive on-line agreement with EA Sports runs out at the end of the year (I believe), then the games should be on Xbox Live, right??

Stay hungry like a contender, baby, and I will find you when that day comes! 8)

If I hold crown in this game on-line, I will use my fame and influence to further the cause of my invisible English brotherz.

He he he nice one mate I will still buy this game and believe me I will play it hard waiting for the day I can kick some online ass I just hope ea and Microsoft can sort out there problems with the online thing cos ps2 online sounds sh*t too me

As for Tyson and lewis with the hole in there prime question. in my opinion Tyson’s opposition in the 80’s his prime wasn’t that great but that wasn’t his fault but the cold hard fact is that he never failed to land the big shot no matter who they were and that goes for any one he fought in his prime and most when he wasn’t Some could take it but as mr Paul Daniels likes to say not a lot but with all that speed and movement of his prime I just can’t see him not tagging Lewis at lest once and as we all know one thing lewis really don’t like is the right over the top to the noggin .

I see lewis as too fighters the raw unshaped slimmer lewis of before the mcall big wakeup fight and the manny Stewart trained super defensive bigger but a lot more skilled lewis but lets not forget bruno beat this man bad for 6 rounds before lewis got him with a wild left hook which he wasn’t even looking when the punch was thrown with his head almost between his knees .

But if were talking in there prime stuff then I would have too say holyfield would have beaten them both in his and there prime i had him winning the secound fight with lewis by 2 rounds this just my opinion guys what you think

all in all i just hope

a) holyfield stops fighting NOW and b) we all get this game online soooooon

holyfield reminds me of a movie title from this New Zealand flik. It was called Once Were Warriors. hehe.

Byrd ate him alive and then Toney gave him a backalley beatdown.

I had Lewis winning both Holyfield fights, the second was admittedly closer, but still had Lewis on top.

BINGPO - yer exactly right about Bruno dominating Lewis. Lennox was about to go get KO'd when he threw the luckiest punch I have ever seen. He got a beating from Razor Ruddock, before landing another wonder punch and changing the fight. He got starched by McCall, possibly beaten by Ray Mercer, almost taken out by Briggs, and cleansed by Rahman. For every great performance, he has mixed in some stinkers, too. That is why he will remain moderatley accepted champ in the people's minds.

Tyson's era offered less competition, but remember that he fought great against tall fighters. He would bob and weave his way in, and break out a combo that would hit body and head. SOmething was gonna land! haha.

I remember his KO of Joe Fraizer's kid. . . I thought he killed him! Even Tyson ran over to carcass to make sure he was ok.

It ships out on April 5th and is expected in stores on April 6th or 7th. Thats for the USA. . God knows who badly they'll screw you guys overseas.

I guess there is a pretty deep Creat-a-boxer mode so you can fill in alot of fighters. There is already talk of people getting together and creating missing fighters like Tyson, Foreman, Klitschkos, Hagler, hearns, Oscar DLH, etc for downloading with Xport.

Classic shit , Placebo.

I met Pappa and li;l Frazier at a bok signing and it seemed like Marvis was still a little affected by that uppercut.

Placebo - I think I saw your posts on IGN about Fight Night. Was that you?
