Sensible World Of Soccer (Xbox 360)

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

Apparantly there is some way of playing it online on your PC, so maybe I don't really need the 360 release. Does anyone know where I could get one of these classic joysticks from to play it with though,

Sensi just wouldn't be the same without one of these!

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

The best joystick of its generation :D

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

Rebuilt so many joysticks I lost count, still have a Zip and one I built from bits of all the ones that couldn't take the SWOS pounding!! It's the best I've ever had and still going strong!!

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

WTF is that thing. I think it'll definitely have to be the PC online for me if my only joystick choice for playing it on XBLA is that montrosity.

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

I used to use a master system control pad when playing Sensi - it was much better!!

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

ive got all the stuff on my pc that will enable all of us to play sensi soccer online. ive got it for the snes emulator, mega drive and the amiga. the snes one runs the best. the mega drive one is good too as you can edit stuff in it

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

Had a beer fueled SWOS throw back last night, not wise when I had a meeting at 13.30 the next day 80 miles away, up till nearly 4.30am, then up at 6am... playing on my old Amiga, god a full season in Div 3.. 50ish games with cups etc. I barely got started. Sooo much depth even now...

Anyway the reason I bumped this is it has all gone quiet on the SWOS 07 front... any news anyone??

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

Even on Vista I've managed to set SWOS 96/97 up and running (thank you DOSbox), and there's even a 06/07 patch out for it. There's something immensely satisfying about it that other games don't touch... It's so simple and yet so deep; you switch it on, you pick your competition, you pick your team and away you go, a full competition with the proper rules, no ifs or buts. And the career mode could last you a lifetime.

What a game.

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

Jack bauer where can i get swos 96 97 and this patch you speak of!? :)

everytime ive tried to use emulators it hasnt gone well...........!

Re: Sensible World of Soccer 07 - XBLA

You can get SWOS 96/97 (and other such beauties) from The Underdogs, and the patch you can get from here. All legal as well I might add. :)

To get it working, I recommend using DOSBox - the default settings are good enough. Install SWOS to a simple directory, e.g. C:\SWOS, and then in DOSBox use the mount command to mount C:\SWOS as a drive letter of your choice. Then navigate to that drive letter, run the install program (should support any Windows controllers that you have, plus DOSBox emulates a standard Sound Blaster), and finally play the game (turn off commentary in the options or else you'll have constant screeching every 10-20 seconds).

If that doesn't work, sorry - don't go treating me like a support centre... :)

If you're talking about SWOS 96/97, you can set the buttons by typing "install" in the SWOS directory and running the controls setup. You can specify keyboard and/or joystick controls.

You've got up, down, left, right and two buttons - one for shots, passes and headers (short tap is a pass, long tap is a shot or a cross, pressing when the ball is overhead executes a header), one for calling over to the bench to make a tactical change or make a substitution.

Will be the same when it's released on XBOX Live, I should think!

Sensible World of Soccer, on Xbox Live Arcade and Vista this summer
-------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been much-anticipated but finally coming soon: Sensible World of
Soccer - the original and best football game of all time comes to
Xbox Live Arcade and Windows Vista in the summer!

Welcome to the first of the Sensible World of Soccer newsletters,
where, over the next few months, I'll be going wild over the latest
news about one of the most thrilling game releases for many a year.
I'll also be highlighting in-depth details about the game, through
our SWOS forum articles we started running in mid-February.

Firstly, and most importantly, as any fool knows, Sensible World of
Soccer (SWOS) was born out of the original version of Sensible Soccer
in 1994. Further iterations came each year until 1997. But it's the
1996 game, regarding as the pinnacle of the series, that'll form the
basis of the Xbox Live Arcade/Vista game released this summer. And
we're committed *not to change a thing* about the game's core
gameplay.

For more details on this, check out my forum post on the core code:
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162898

But what changes will there be to bring the game into the 21st
Century? Well, to make the game dazzle on Xbox 360 and Vista we've
given you the option to update the graphics to high-definition if you
want to. As our Director of Casual Gaming recently said on the
subject:

"Mode 1 will be the original Amiga game (we haven't touched the core
game code) with enhanced graphics and enhanced game features. Mode 2
will be the actual original Amiga game from the mid-90s."

Read more of this newsworthy interview here:

We've also highlighted the controls you'll be using in "Sensible
World of Soccer" this summer. This could be perceived as a boring
subject to some, but as SWOS renowned for its one button action, it's
an important one that we had to get right! And the Xbox 360 and PC
control system mirrors the simplicity of the original game - this
should be a 'given' with a game like SWOS. For more details on the
controls, check out the article here:

Finally this month, as if all of this wasn't enough, we're offering
you the chance to be featured in the game.

Yes, you. In Sensible World of Soccer.

One of the oft-remembered parts of the SWOS was the weird and
wonderful team and player names in the custom team section. So as we
update these for the new century we're asking for your suggestions,
with the best 15 from the community appearing in the final Xbox Live
Arcade version of the game!

The competition couldn't be simpler. For more details, head over to
the forum thread on the competition, here:
http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=164152

One word of advice though; get your team in quick - the competition
finishes this coming Monday, the 19th, at 9am!

I'll be back with more news as we approach launch in four weeks - but
for now, enjoy the football, anticipate the return of SWOS and
celebrate!

can't wait!

strange how the game was announced in september, but not due for release until this summer...

surely, this game would only take 10 minutes to produce nowadays?

Why not a 360? due to some of the issues or is there more you like on PS3 (hard to believe!)

No Dj, it's down to the fact I'm getting a PS3 given through my work by a client, though if I'm honest there is not one game yet I'm dying to play, I remember I could hardly wait to get my PS2 and for that matter my Xbox but The next gen stuff just has not wowed me as I expected it too. Maybe when i get a new full HD large screen and PES or Fifa 08 is out I may change my mind?

I Made the mistake of telling my other half about getting the PS3 gift, so if I get 360 as well she would hit me with it ;)
