Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

Exactly. I love me some long shots and for the past few PES games the ball just looks right when travelling through the air.

Also my highlight from the trailer was the sound of the crossbar. That fucker sounded wooden, proper ghetto-like as if I down dogshit park having a kick about with my mates.

That impressed me too Badger, it sounded real.

Mmmm dogshit park.............Victoria Embankment perhaps????:DD

If this is the real deal, it'll be classy. For what I see, I like it!!

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

i gotta say im liking waht im seeing despite all the bashing and stuff..usually my opinion dont change by what other people say or scream

took me a while to adapt and start enjoying pes2008, but right now im ejoying this game very much. With that said im excited to get pes2009 as i think ill problaby adapt a lot quicker to this one since it will proplaby use the same engine as pes2008..

The graphics look great too me. Best footy game gfx ive seen actually. i lreally like how they got the uniforms to look more loose, i just wish we could set untucked shirts from the beginng of the game...its a small thing but it make certain players look a lot more real for me.

:)

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

I'll start my posts in this thread with a mixture of a rant and food for thought.

Quoting Badgerman from the previous thread,

Badgerman said:
I reckon Leipzig will only tell us if the game is shit or not.

Last year Leipzig was when the ball dropped and everyone knew it. If the game is good then people will still be sceptical as that's what we specialise in.

And even that, I fear won't be the end of it. From scepticism to criticism is a small step which many people are willing to take.

The truth is that people have become spoiled. I remember when the only news we had from PES were from the WE version that was released way before PES. ThomasGoal and Kaiwai would give us news, translate stuff... It was top. It helped us become excited about it. There was no such thing as hate, no flames, no wars, just plain ol' Badger-style-luvin' going on. And it was fantastic.

The problem came when people started believing that Konami owed them stuff. Konami owed them the modes they wanted for themselves. Konami owed them "The Premiership license" (which every once in a while someone posts here saying something like "if Konami doesn't have the Premiership license next year, the game will be crap", without realising that that license is out of reach because of legal stuff and exlusivity deals). Konami owed them a "Manager Mode" full of seasons and stuff. Since Konami used to make the best football game, people started believing that Konami owed them their perfect game, and started resenting Konami for not delivering it. "Why, oh why Seabass won't you make my game???".

That is the problem nowadays. Once you realize that it IS just a game, and that you are NOT forced to buy it, the hate will disappear. You'll take what they bring out. You'll buy it if you feel like it.

I never thought that this strategy of bringing the game out in europe first would backfire, but I honestly believe that the game reception was much better overall when the game came out first in Japan. Since the marketing was made for Japanese people, we'd just have to take whatever they gave them, and try to make the best of it, instead of behaving like spoiled children.

Afterwards, some people would import the game after release, starting playing it. All the others would eagerly see videos, and count the days until the game got here. Also, the fact that the game arrived in Japan 4 months earlier than FIFA, no comparisons would ensue. When FIFA arrived, we would have already had Pro Evo love, and so we could either play FIFA (if it was better), or continuing playing PES (like things usually went).

Do you really want to see how times have changed?

I present you two games, which the veterans will remember fondly.

ISS Pro Evolution 1 (aka Winning Eleven 4), released in 1999 for the PS One.

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psx/issproevolution

and ISS Pro Evolution 2 (a crippled Winning Eleven 2000 U-23), releasid in 2001 for the PS One.

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psx/issproevolution2

In the Japanese releases, the big difference was that there were the Under-23 national teams, which allowed for a great Master League experience with unknown youngsters, and had the U-23 Championship, which was missing from the European release.

Furthermore, one of the games had 32 directions to move while running (similar to nowadays), while the other only had 16 (remember how you ran in PES2 with R2?). Also, the "Shoot+Pass" feint had its direction reversed.

Asides from this, there were little more noticeable differences. Maybe the Master League had a second division, I'm not sure. But no licenses or anything of the style as we've grown used to nowadays.

Even the covers were ridiculously similar - one being orange-y, the other being in green tones. The graphics were just the same, also.

Still, the second game, released two years after, is fondly remembered by many as the best in the series, and in metacritic it has a higher average.

If you lived through this, you'll probably be smiling from that fuzzy, nostalgic feeling.

As you know, nowadays there's no place for the few of us who just want to live through the same experiences. The times have changed. So little changes would be unreasonable - a reason for mockery and scepticism, just like the thread we had until this morning.

Dar said:
Yeah, I agree with Badger here, Thomas has been here longer than most and every year he was quick with the fresh news and scans and always had the info as soon as it was available.

I remember back in the day, it didn't matter what speculation or rumour it was, it was welcomed and discussed and even if it turned out to be absolute bollox it wasn't a problem, usually what was expected. But it was nice to dream....

These days we have too many spoiled people who expect the world and if something is seemingly dangled in front of them and then taken away, they take it as something having being stolen from them and react accordingly.

I for one miss TG's news updates and would ask him to reconsider posting it here, whatever it may be, for the true fans (and oldtimers ;) ) who will appreciate it.

This was why I joined Evo-web.

I respect the people who post here, no matter the camp they're on, and what their oppinions towards the game are.

I just wish that they wouldn't make it impossible for those of us who actually come here for the reasons Dar pointed out...

Everyone's got a hammer and nails at hand, ready to crucify whoever brings news - even if they are well reputed people who are bringing rumours - and spit on them as soon as the news prove false.

TG is reduced to few posts nowadays.

Adam and Suff are ridiculed and considered outcasts by most forum users here.

In the old days, all was info came out of contacts and rumours - some true, mostly rubbish.

As soon as Adam and Suff - out of inexperience, a lot of good-faith and good-will - started giving us all the info that their contacts gave them, we took it personal and took advantage of every ocasion to remind them that they are liars and of no use to us. See, it just happened to TG in this same thread!

No wonder we don't get a glimpse of news or rumours. I'm guessing Seabass himself will have to come here to the forums and post the official announcements, so that we can believe in the news.

Does anyone know where TG posts his news nowadays?

Best regards,

Paulo Tavares

P.S. - Props to the mods for beginning a new thread. Honest.

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

just for info the PES2009 Trailer is fully in game, it's confirmed by KAiWAi himself and no more slowdown (gameplay and replay) :))

very important.

slowdown must be completely eradicated. i dont care how good a game is, if it has slowdown, i'm not playing it. period.

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

I don't remember seeing slowdown in gameplay? I just remember the annoying online lag which needs to be fixed. One point of the game that had slowdown was when a player was returning onto the pitch after an injury with that little box, this only happened on offline multiplayer, and I think was a bug.

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

There was terrible slow down on the PC version I will testify. Not a consistent frame rate level which would tell you your PC isn't up to standard but a sudden drop. About 7-8 stadiums all seem to chop around the box when I play it so i just stick to the lag free ones.

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

Is the replay camera 360 degrees again?

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

The evolution of PES fans

Allow me to re-word your post and probably ruin it.

In the good ole days we were a lot more humble. It was pretty much black and white, Fifa had their thing with the players on the cover and nice soundtracks (bar Robbie Williams) whilst Pro Evo was this quirky game that none of your mates really knew about but was a real gem of a series.

In recent years, thanks to technology, resources and the like, you've had Pro Evo adopt some traditionally Fifa traits. Unfortunately, some people think that Konami should automatically be able to match Fifa in this regard from the get go.

I think that the bad blood fundamentally comes down to the Fifa folk who recognised PES for the game it was, but don't share the same appreciation for the subtlety of the game as we do.

Also worth mentioning is that every new console generation brings with it a transition period. I remember PES1 as a brilliant game but going back and playing it now is just a bizarre experience.

With every Pro Evo game I've felt that they've loosened up the rails a bit and have given the player more freedom. Even with 2008 I can still conjur up some pretty brilliant stuff that gives me the buzz I got from scoring a bicycle kick in ISSPE2

edit: Brilliant post by the way, mate.

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

Paulo Tavares,
One of the best posts I've ever read. Glad to see that someone see this whole thing in similar manner. It has become so personal to people and I can't understand why. It's a great game that has given many of us many hours of enjoyment. There is never any reason for people to attack each other because someone likes PES and some other person likes FIFA.
You always write very thoughtful and insightful posts (on WENB as well) and it's a breath of fresh air. The only reason I visit these forums is to see (or get involved) in a discussion about the new iteration of PES, but what I most often see is people who enjoy PES getting attacked for it. It turns a person off.
I appreciate the mods coming in and starting a new thread. People should be able to have a discussion about PES on a PES website without constantly being flamed for it. Criticize it all you want but at least have an intelligent argument to back it up. I love Evo-Web and I want it to continue to be a place I enjoy to visit to read about new info regarding my favorite game.
People also should try and give Adam and Suff a break. Those guys didn't purposely try and give false information last year. They just passed on whatever info they could get a hold of. They were acting in the way they thought fans wanted them to act. This year they are verifying info before passing it along and they have been right about everything so far.

I think there's a bit of lost in translation in at times like these. I think he's referring to stuff like online, as you say, and replays and so on and so forth.

I'm a replay whore and they really shouldn't be juddering to a halt.

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

May be he was implying if they had taken it out? Not sure.

I've said this before but i'll say it again, they should definitely put the Random Selection Mode back in the game. Great fun playing with mates

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

Not sure I agree with the censorship or the need for a new thread but I do agree the guys who bash for the sake of it and without basis or even trying to be constructive needed sorting, as for Paulo Tavares post I think it's a nice tale of nostalgia and I agree with some things, the TG bashing I did not see so can't comment. Though the point about people being able to post all their Contact info and spy photos is surely the same as in the FIFA thread, all are welcome and will no doubt get much attention, but if you continually post inaccurate info you have to accept some criticism and general piss taking...
This is by no means an attack on the Mods who do a good job on here but I don't want to end up with an overly sanitized and authoritarian forum either.. Just to keep this post on topic and to stop Dar from warning me, I am happy to hear Konami are confident they have a smooth running product with no slow down or frame judder, my eyes thank them...

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

It always has been, you just have to press :triangle: now to go into it on 08.

I didn't know it was there the whole time.

i have a 5200x2 and no in-game(wide cam) slowdowns, only the framerate drops a little (25/40fps) in the replays.

also, in pc, pes 2008 looks muuuch better than ps3/360

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

In response to the pace of the game, the ball seemed to travel through the air a bit slower. For me, Fifa is too slow whilst Pro Evo is too fast. They need to be able to mix it up depending on whether or not the match is in an attacking phase or a defensive one.

This something both games have struggled with and thats realistic pace on passing, shooting and running speed. The onerous task of making sure its an enjoyable video game, whilst trying to replicate real life on a scaled down version, is not at all easy.

Konami need a big thanks for trying to bring this to console gaming years ago, they dont owe anybody anything but they do have to move into a new phase in both demand and expectation. The lack of this dissapointed me for two years running but I see some of the polish and beauty back into this game, even from the limited footage and screens we have been shown.

I for one am glad the thread has been recreated, I want to share in the fun, excitement and dissapointments of what the game brings to us in the next 3 months.

I had a bad opinion of konami last year, not because they did not put any effort in, but because I was dissapointed, I made my point by not buying it and many more peeps did the same, if you dont like then dont buy.......simple.

I hope we continue to share in open debate and embrace the genuine folk who bring information, humour and maturity to this great site and lambast those who endevour to ruin the enjoyment by adding no value whatsoever.

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

Badger I found it to be pretty much unplayable in a number of stadiums. I'm entitled to my view am I not? Badgerman do you work Konami's PR department? Anyone that isn't 100% happy with Konami's efforts is a troll in your view...please. As for taking anyone apart...well perhaps we all should just let that one pass.

As for game speed PES2008 was awful; nothing like a simulation of football with balls moving at 150mph across the park. Fifa08 speed-wise was just about spot on.

And the port comment was ironic but let's be honest PES2008 graphically looked like a polished PS2 game (at best). Finally I just don't get the whole "brand loyality" mentally displayed by so many people on all the PES forums I visit. If Konami produce the best football game kudos to them but I'm not optimismtic. Nor do I post BS from my 'contacts' something many others (you know who you are) have done especially last year.

My motto this year is "don't believe the hype".

thanks... great news to hear that from KAiWAi. so where are the guys who thought the closeups are CGI... definately a big compliment for the graphic section at Konami ;)

as an self claimed "PES veteran" here at evo-web... like most of the others I here for me PES 2008 was a big letdown, but I don´t blame Seabass or the dev-team for it... like in most companies all what counts is money and time... and the management always put the developers at a short line. trust me it always like that. For me it is a procedure I have to endure every day as I´m workin in the developement department for a big german car manufacturer :) ... back to topic... I have big hopes for PES 2009 because they have just to fix some parts of the game (gamespeed, lags, online play) and have a solid base to build on... amen

I think you know yourself that alot of your previous posts were not adding much value but the rest of your post is now adding to the debate.

Aslong as you are contributing then type away but leave the comments and underhand digs in the cerebal cortex.

You are right in that we need some caution with regards to the hype (been there, seen that) but dont let that completely cloud your judgement and perception of what 2009 may well bring:))

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

I'd definitely say that game speed is a tremendously difficult thing to set, mainly because you're giving an arbitrary value to something that can range from one end of the spectrum to the other.

In fairness though, this is something that every sports game will struggle to fully get their heads round for the rest of time. It's also kind of funny moaning about arbitrary values controlling speed when every single player in the game has a set of pre-defined values dictating how they act.

I'm entitled to my view am I not?

This is exactly how the last thread ended. You make a completely daft post then follow it up with something vaguely reasonable before adopting a victim mentality. If the rest of your posts were sensible then there wouldn't be an issue. You need to cut out your bad posts where you lie and make puns out of the word "Konami" and you're good to go.

We obviously like what Pro Evo has done over the years and appreciate what they are capable of whilst you have been taken in by Fifa, so go to the Fifa bit. What's even better is that's the place to moan about Pro Evo so you can leave this super happy place be.

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

Once again, if you don't have anything useful to contribute to this discussion about PES 2009, don't bother replying as it'll only lead to your replies getting deleted. If you still feel the urgent need to rant over 2008 and how shitty it was in several aspects, that's cool, but please do it somewhere else and not in here. Thanks!

I have to say i am pretty stunned at the quality considering thats all in game.I love the presentation of FIFA but PES seems to get the charachter models spot on.Couple this with better looking kits, great definition on the boots, pads etc and the excitement runs through my blood once again:DANCE:

Re: PES 2009 News, Discussion and Rumours

I have recently been playing a lot of PES5 and 6 with mates, and it has that certain flair and "magic" to it that FIFA, nor any other football game has ever had - It's hard to explain, but all of us (former) PES fans experienced it, and that's what we loved about the game so much.

If PES09 is a properly fixed up game, without the ultra-fast pace of 08, stable online mode and manual passing with more freedom, with the added quality that games such as PES5 and 6 had, it would be a game well worth having - even if it was just for multiplayer.

FIFA looks very good this year too, it could be a good year for football games :)) Next year may well be an even better year, with PES supposedly getting a complete overhaul, and EA probably implementing more gameplay improvements and improving manager mode.

I fully agree with you, Rob. PES 5 was always my favorite PES-game and if Konami can re-create that in PES 2009 plus a flawless on-line mode I will be happy.

I wonder when PES 2009 will be released. Normally they release a month after FIFA. That would mean early november. I hope it will not be that late...

Really? I have a 7900GS and a 3800+. I use Anti aliasing to help smooth out the rough edges. Btw, I've played it on the PS3 and it doesn't look better at all really. Definitely smoother and more engrossing but actually more detailed, im not so sure. Try putting your PES on x8 AA on a high resolution and you will notice the difference

Wait! So let me get this straight. ISS had 32 & 16 directional movement before? But PES is only 8 way! One of my most requested features for PES 2009 is 16 way directional movement since it will increase the freedom of the player and make the game more accurate. Wow. I really hope that its in this year considering its been implemented years before. Does anyone remember these titles? How did they play? What was the movement, passing and shooting like?

Thanks.
