FIFA 20 Discussion (Console Versions)

I’ve been playing a lot of FIFA 15 Career Mode and whilst it’s too fast and hectic, the matches are very interesting and difficult in Legendary.

I really hope FIFA goes back to being tough in the hardest mode, it’s all I ask for. I like the gameplay in FIFA and have done for ages. The other game is incredibly boring, every goal feels the same and the I haven’t got the time or patience to edit the entire thing and still feel let down by it’s horrible atmospheres, stadia, bright red kits that look like they’ve been created in MS Paint and super shallow, super scripted, super shitty ML.

My only hope is FIFA 20 now. Please EA, make the game challenging in single player. Please. For the love of football gamers worldwide.

Thing for me that is both super frustrating but also gives reason for optimism is that there is a challenging single player experience in FIFA, it's just that in CM it's wildly inconsistent.

Like you, I find Ultimate difficulty in CM a cakewalk 9/10 games. But I challenge anyone to play Squad Battles on Ultimate and say the same thing. Now, Squad Battles is a load of bullshit... but at least it can be brutally tough.

Even in CM I'll come across challenging matches. I'm now at the point, 4 seasons in, where I have a good enough team that even with sliders and other settings I'm back to finding most games a breeze. BUT, I just yesterday played a Champions League match against RB Leipzig that was the toughest match I'd played in a month and took everything I had to eke out a 1-1 victory on an away goal. It was brutal, though not necessarily in a good kind of way - it was all high pressing and super fast attacking by the CPU. Not fun... but it was hard as F.

I think this is one of FIFA's biggest single player issues right now - it's just so all over the place. It's almost like they've tried so hard to increase variety between matches that they've taken it too far and there's no rhyme or reason. Or maybe it's just that the CTTs have too much an impact on difficulty levels, and when you get a high press fast attack team, it's challenging, but if you get a drop back and possession team, it's just too easy.

Anyways, I'm pretty happy with FIFA when it's good... problem is it's just so wildly inconsistent. I think they heard our calls for more variety but just totally fucked up in execution.

they could have updated his face at least
31 july ultimate team news, and maybe 01 august carrer mode news

Jesus Christ, when did Pirlo get bad plastic surgery? :CURSE:

Nah..That doesn't look like Pirlo to me.
They probably bought the MGS rights to revenge for Piemonte Calcio and this is the first pic of Snake from MGS 6 which is secretly on development.
I love how his real face is right next to him, on the card, the irony is stunning. But hey, 31.1K likes, FIFA mindshare is strong.

In my world, Pirlo is retired and therefore needn't feature in the game. But that's my hang up.

Should he feature in the game, he should at least look passable. Smacks of a sweetener for Juve fans; vary scant consolation.

That Pirlo image...
One of the great ones, and he looks like crap.
Always seen Andrea as a Milan player, not Piemonte player.
Nevertheless, disrespectful to portray a legend that (anyone) poorly.
Since EA has been quite low key so far on content, wouldn't be surprised if they had something up their sleeves, they haven't really done anything to career mode in a long time.
Me for one won't buy a Fifa 17/18/19 again if fifa 20 turns out to be just that, with a few extra stadiums.
Plus the obvious,fouls!

i cross my fingers for a FIFA 18 with better ball physics, a bit slower, smoother animations and better collisions.
Oh all these are mentioned to be included in FIFA 20! Im very hyped right now.

I got a month of ea access so have been trying out 19. Verdict: It is not good.

Passing on manual takes a long time to power up, the passing physics behave like a bowling ball on grass the way it unnaturally slows down from top speed to dead, body collisons are clunky the way players interact and weirdly hold people off the ball. And it just feels clunky and "loose" to control the players, like you dont have that tactile and precise control that is present in 16

It just makes me dissapointed in 20 because for all the imporvements and good ideas they may implement, theyre still working with this clunky engine that they havent gotten right for 3 years now. I don't see them somehow overcoming these apparent engine problems in the next game either.

I'm just dissapointed at the step back they made from ignite to frostbite, and how there probably won't be a (new) good footy game for yet another year

Speaking of FIFA 20.

Operation Sports (home of @Matt10) have been hands-on with the game.

Bearing in mind this is Operation Sports talking (a dedicated realism-in-gaming website)...

...fuck. I'm so excited.
Four different test screens were shown of Ronaldo and Ramos, this time highlighting Ronaldo’s dribbling attributes and how that worked in tandem with his speed. The top left screen had Ronaldo with a 99 dribble rating, the top right screen had him with a 92 dribble rating, the bottom left had him at an 82 dribble rating and the bottom right had him at a 60 dribble rating.

As you’d expect, the 99 and 92 dribble ratings had him keep both his pace on the ball as well as control of the ball while making his run at goal with Ramos on his tail. At the 82 dribble rating, he was still able to keep pace but the ball control was slightly errant and Ramos was able to catch up, but Ronaldo was able to fend him off due to his strength. At the 60 dribble, rating Ronaldo’s pace was slowed due to his lack of ball control and Ramos was able to close him down and make a tackle to take the ball. It was impressive to see that the subtle yet important nuances were worked on and adjusted to make the game feel more realistic. Shaun reinforced that attributes definitely make a difference this year for FIFA 20.

Imagine this in a Career Mode context. All the attributes being this important.

I need to lie down.

Wow, that's one hell of a preview for sure.

I'd like to be hyped but the second I rejoice for those words above it's just another second away from the thought EA is well capable of butcher any good thing with patches and updates FUT friendly..

I should know better by now, allowing myself to get excited, but fuck me can't help it.

Would've been just about the best preview porn ever if they'd mentioned anything about fouls...

They're certainly saying the right things. They're focusing on a lot of core gameplay issues which is a pleasant surprise. I'm cautiously optimistic... (I'm actually quite excited, but they'll cock it up with patches).

The amount of times I've yelled at my CPU teammates for running away, or sprinting 100 MPH towards me, or slipping in behind the defender instead of just sitting/taking a few steps into space to provide a passing outlet is HIGH.

I'll buy it for PC and PS4 (usually do anyway) and install the day one release on my console and just never update it. Their patches can't beat me!

I really hope everything that preview says its true. Sounds like perfect tweaks that were needed to please the sim crowd, problem is : whats the cash cow fut crowd going to think when they cant sprint sprint sprint.
Still, im optimistic, dare I say excited

That's good to know tactics/formation and player stats actually matters. But have a feeling that most of them will be changed because FUT players will complain about balance and other crap and we will have 11 clones running on the field in no time after the first official patch.

The most encouraging thing in that article is EA people themselves describing fifa 19 as a frantic game where 20 players run up and down the pitch like complete idiots. That's honesty! (actual quote: "we were shown players off the ball at a virtual full sprint all over the pitch...all sprinting forward into unorganized positions").

Now about fifa 20, they do say all the right things don't they? I will keep my expectations low however, and if we get one good game this year in fifa 20 I will be pleasantly surprised. I still remember what they said about fifa 19 a year back: "But for FIFA 19 the intention is to be a more tactical game. Because of the new system the midfield is much more improved. It's not just about two passes and then you’re in front of goal. That’s the approach for FIFA 19".

All sounds very positive. What's not to like about player attributes actually meaning something.

But it's important to me that, in the general context of a match, pace and acceleration mean less. They exonerate wide players from any other physical or technical ability. I'll be keeping a beady eye on that. Not a common complaint but having built dominant CM teams around fast full backs, wingers and AMCs for years and years it's strangled my love for the game.

All non-FIFA-20-related content has been moved into the appropriate threads.

Feel free to make comparisons to older games but if you just want to talk about those older games and your slider settings etc... I've put them in the right place!

Some got moved that shouldn't have. I had a post that was about CM moved to the FIFA 15 forum for some reason...

finally sounds like they nailed the old school pes stats actually meaning something and have an impact on the game, one thing i would say is Ramos should be quicker running without the ball the Ronaldo is with it but at least it means good players will be getting away from bad players and the catch up bug should be gone

Totally.
FIFA 20 will be attacking oriented, that's for sure. They already talked about producing 1vs1 all over the pitch.
I like what I hear so far. Hopefully this one will have a higher replay values than its predecessors. FIFA 17 was awful for me. 18 and 19 were good but they were lacking that little something. It became monotonous for me after a few months.

Perhaps we’ll have 2 great games this year but I’m definitely moving away from Fifa now my beloved is no longer licensed:CONF:
