This is nice for Konami I guess but don't be surprised if this means EA has reacted and made the same deal for, let's say, Roma...
 
For the fans this licensing stuff is total crap in my eyes. Why not giving the licenses to both (or more) publisher? Do clubs, FIFPro, Uefa or whoever really get more money, when they sell their licenses to one publisher only?
If all sides have the same chances and the same licenses, they really have to focus on the important things to get people play their games.

It is undoubtedly the fans who suffer from exclusive licensing agreements - it just so happens that this time, the shoe is on the other foot. That doesn't make it better or worse (it's just nice to see the side that gets kicked every year starting to hit back a little).

That being said, it's strange seeing three individual team licenses being celebrated when it'll still be (e.g.) Man United v West London White, Bayern v [German league missing] etc... In my honest opinion, the licenses make no difference because all their opponents are fake, so they may as well all be fake. The stadiums look great but give me 30 fake ones over 3 licensed ones every day of the week.

The bigger tragedy IMO is that EA are so license-heavy, there isn't even an editor to "fix" this stuff. If you're a Juventus fan and you prefer FIFA 20, it's going to be a crap year.

PES is coming out the strongest on db and licenses this year since 2013 given the circumstences. If only the gameplay would match the quality too. It still feels like PES is combating FIFA on license and Myclub level rather than gameplay, playerinertia and AI, to say the least the last three are rather seem neglected once again 5 years in a row.

Now I know I'm a cynic, but. Is it just me, or does he look more like actual Ronaldo on the right (i.e. PES 2019)?

Do you know what would really impress me about the faces? If they made the generic player faces 100x more realistic and 100x less cartoony.

Otherwise... Well, licensed Man United against West London White looks rubbish, and incredible face-scanned Ronaldo next to a generic black guy who's the classic Konami "white man who's been painted black"... looks rubbish.
 
One thing is certain - Fifa fanboys will go ballistic..
Last year I was sure that EA after getting La Liga and all stadiums will get serie A and all stadiums next.
Thats a right kick in the bollox.

In a perfect world in could be the first step for both companies to sit at the table and to say
- right. Enough of this immaturity. We'll share all licenses. Stop with these one team exclusive bullcrap - we'll give you Bundesliga and EPL.

Yes! If they just left alone all the decent faces (which they already were in Pes13) and looked after all other generic faces, it would make more sense and added a lot to the overall picture.
 
Licensing the biggest club, for each of the 4 biggest leagues is a huge win for Konami. Now just need the Uefa Nations League!!!

Yup, It's very much tit for tat but the bullet has left the chamber now as far as the ethics and aggressive licensing are concerned. I've had enough of inconsistent authenticity each year that i'm giving in and buying the PC version this year.

Bloody hell what a realization. As groundbreaking as FIFA has been over the last 10 years, The one thing they've actually failed to challenge PES on and even accommodate in their development/production is a competitive edit mode.

But the reason why it's a realization (at least to me) is that it's not something that their consumers are demanding every year across social media either the same way a contingent of people demand improved career mode which is also arguable a minority. They understand their consumers may not appreciate or spend time in an editing suite, Not in 2019 anyway. If there's no plug in and play option file support like PES on PS4, Then "what sucker would sit there and edit things manually?"

But it also brings the question about understanding their consumers, And how many people truly care about licenses when the games in their hands when the most lucrative mode doesn't even need to lean on licenses for enjoyment;

They create their own fantasy clubs online and assemble dream teams anyway.
 
EA and Konami can continue this Pissing competition as much as they want as long as the gameplay for both games takes precedence over everything else. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. Judging by what I've seen for both FIFA and PES, I doubt I'll be purchasing either this year unless the demo's and the full games have significant fundamental gameplay improvements which looks highly unlikely at this point.

I think so, too.
Because I thought that the Serie A licence covers all teams even if you have an exclusive deal with the club.
(like it is in France that's why EA can't make an exclusive deal with a club there, because Ligue 1 licence covers all clubs)

The other thing is that as amazing as these 3D scans are, There's the small problem that the fidelity of them aren't going to be consistent with the majority of the faces in the game that aren't scanned in. EA had this problem in '15 when they scanned the Premier League faces. It was obvious which players were modeled with new tech and which players were modeled with old, and the result was pretty jarring. Throw the generic players into the mix who look like they're from a different video game entirely and you get this weird artistic conglomerate.

I know gameplay is king but I find all this highly amusing. It's about time the boot was on the other foot for a change. A small or I suppose you could say big win for Konami on licensing.
