Post your fitness goals here, I can help you.

I hate taking dumps, especially when your not at home! and when I'm in the toilet correct me if I'm wrong only one thing gets released...

However, is it okay to over-eat healthy food? for example before I began eating like 5 apples after dinner, and instead of a plate of salad I eat 3x more. And in addition to that, can you give me some detail on meat, is it okay to have things such as pork/beef with rice?

You know, anything too excessive isn't good for you, even when it comes to healthy food. Stay away from pork. High in fat, loaded with sodium not much of a protein either. Rice can go with chicken breasts, mix it with ground beef, or ground turkey.

How much beer are we talking about here :COP:

nothing on monday, tuesday, wed, 6 on every other thursday, probably more on friday, and then saturday 6-10, then 6 beers on sunday,

can you give me weeks schedule of what i should be eating.. im pretty good about eating right and excersize, but i have only lost about 5 pounds and i have been doing this for two years or more.

Unfortunately, I can't help or force you to cut down the beer. It's something you have to do on your own. A few beers once a week is not bad as they have complex carbs but you are destroying your liver there.

Im working out at the moment trying to get more definition and more muscle, it starting working but has stopped due to the fact im not gaining any weight so its going nowhere,

What kinds of foods should I be eating as im one skinny bugger and only 10 stone 4

im irish, its fine. LOL Should i cut it down to two nights a week?

I signed up to my Uni gym two weeks ago and I've only been once once since then.

I bought a copy of Mens Health magazine and the Daniel Craig fitness routine has got me thinking. 45 minute workouts is very doable and I can do some at home. I just hope that I knuckle down and actually do it.

It doesn't help that since I left London in 2004 I haven't played football

Stick with beef steaks, fish, chicken, pasta, potato, rice, grits, oatmeal

My rule and over the years I met very experienced bodybuilders and their rule also was: anyone that wants to gain weight fast and quick needs a SEE-FOOD-DIET. This is where you eat everything on sight.

Gomito do you have Men's Fitness/Health in USA? They usually have some good diets for both gaining weight and loosing it that fairly easy to maintain.

My problem is getting a decent lunch because of work. I usually just have a sandwich now though.

Always, cook your food at home. Make protein shakes and bring them to work. Make sandwiches on wheat toast bread, put tuna on them.. bring yogurts, bars, etc..I know many people don't have oportunity to just eat clean at work.

I drink that Whey shake when im finished at the gym (buy it and get it made there) yum

Yeah, I do that, I started trying to gain good weight and work out a bit a few months ago and I'm not doing too bad with the eating, it's the working out I dont do enough of. It's quite hard to eat loads on a budget too, but I cook something decent most nights, usually chicken or turkey with rice/pasta/noodles and a few vegetables and stuff and I eat quite a lot of egg whites, peanut butter and tuna as well.

yes, and here everyone knows that magazine is gay porn, LOL, silly brits :)

Hahaha, well anyway like I said it's quite good for the diets and workouts, if you yanks can't buy it because you know you'll spend the whole time on the shitter looking at the pictures and awakening the beast inside of you that is homosexuality then fair enough.

iluvnineties - Great thread, thanks for this. Gonna try to follow a lot of your advice but in the last year or so I have been trying to be more aware of what I'm putting into my body. Ok i have a couple of questions. First of all though I have to put things in perspective. I gave up cigarettes about 3 months ago after smoking for 15 years, I also curbed my drinking substantially to the point where I hardly drink at all now (typical night out for me would have been about 12 pints, half a bottle of vodka and about 8 jagerbombs, maybe 3/4 nights a week for the past 10 years or so, I'm 26). Despite all this I've managed to stay relatively slim and still able to play sports etc. However, that aside but taken into consideration, what would you recommend I do routine wise in terms of exercise for someone like me? I don't want to join a gym, I want to work out in my home and/or outdoors. I don't want to get ripped like Chris Wright, I just wanna get in shape slowly but consistently.

Also, you mentioned tuna on wheat bread, I detest any kind of seafood. lunch for me is usually a sandwich so I'd like to keep on the wheat bread thing, what else would you recommend other than tuna?

Thanks! Dermot.

Well, first of all congrads that you quit smoking and also congrads that you try to monitor your alcohol intake, very clever. You say you don't want to join a gym ? Can I ask why ?

You see, without gym your options are really limited. You can do things at home like pushups, run outside, get some cd's and watch football or basketball drills and how the athletes train which is not a bad idea. Actually, if I was you I would look to buy a cd where different types of drills are shown. Basketball drills are the best. They truly will put you in awesome shape if you follow instructions closely. As far as you not liking Tuna, have you tried to add some ingredients that will help with the taste and smell ? Like Mayo, Pepper, Paprika, Mustard etc ??

If you really can't stand Tuna, then what you can do is grill chicken breast, after its all done take a knife and cut thin slices and put them on the wheat bread. To have a good wheat bread sandwich you can do the chicken thing like I described and then you can put on top some egg salad. That is really yummy.

Try to eat some Tuna seriously. Excellent source of protein and high in healthy, well needed fats.

I have some videos for you folks! Every time I watch this I get hungry. It gets me motivated. This is where I learned all my cooking skills and techniques. This just boosts up my appetite like there's no tomorrow. I highly recommend that all of you watch this guy, Ronnie Coleman, 8 times Mr.Olimpia champion. I nearly try to copy and do the same exact thing when it comes to food. Folks, don't be scared. The pills he's taking are mostly vitamins, and other prescription meds that he has to take. Obviously, he is on Anabolic Steroids, Insulin and Growth Hormone, but the way he eats and trains makes him who he is! Enjoy:

He is 8 times Mr.O and with all his money from IFBB and endorsements he continued to work a full time job as a police officer in Austin, TX. He is also very religious. Before he eats, he always prays as you can see. Not many people can do what he does. His day starts around 9am, and he goes to bed at 4-5am. Watch the vids and get motivated.

Great thread - It's near impossible to get good advice on diet and fitness and health without say going to your doctors who would just look at you like an idiot who is wasting his time when he asks what's wrong with you and you say 'nothing, i just want to talk about health' At least my doctor would, you can have half your head missing and an arm hanging off and he'd still ask what's wrong with you and then tut and huff when you add on extra items.

Anyway just out of curiosity for myself rather than a 'help i'm huge and I keep having chest pains' I've always wondered with all the warnings and adverts am i eating shit or am i ok.

I tend to skip breakfast in the mornings. I know I shouldn't - but I'm just never hungry at that time. By the time I've woke up, got jobs done, fed and dressed the baby it' coming on to 10am and by that time I end up thinking "I'll just wait for dinner and have a drink now"

If I did have anything (mainly if i was up at like 6-7am so by 9 I'm starving it would be either toast and a cup of tea or a bowl of cereal - coco pops, frosties, shreddies or ready brek.

Dinner - Roughly eaten at around 12-1pm. Different each day and i try to mix it up so im not eating the same thing 3 days in a row but...
Bacon or sausage butty, pasta twirls with a sauce, pastie from the pie shop, cheese (mild chedder) on toast, beans on toast, chicken or ham butties, pot noodle, McDonalds (Big mac meal), chip barm with gravy.

For Tea at about 6-7pm when the misses comes home. It's usually a typical meal you can knock up from your freezer.

so stuff like chicken kievs, potatoe wedges and vegetables with rice. Potatoe waffles, burgers, beans. chips chicken dippers and peas.
And then complete meals - a roast dinner (usually roast chicken or beef with potatoes, roast potatoes, broccoli, peas, Yorkshire pudding, carrots) - chicken curry with boiled rice, spaghetti bolognese.

To drink during the days i've been having Tea with the weather being cold but all summer i was drinking super watered down blackcurrent - mainly because the water filter built into our fridge doesn't mix it up well so a tiny amount in the glass gets mixed ok. Other than that i'll have milk or a milkshake.

If i ate a snack between meals then it would probably be something like a few biscuits like a custard cream and a cup of tea.

I'm about 5ft 10 and weigh 11 stone - i have no idea if that's good or bad or normal. I don't smoke, haven't drank since uni and even then it was rarely. I don't feel tired all day or ill or anything. I've just always wondered that as i don't eat 5 fruit and veg a day and drink WATER (with nothing added) does my diet make it worse and need a big think.

The only thing i don't eat that i wish i could is fish - but im allergic to it.

Thanks for participating in our little fitness thread, good to have you. I have to break it to you but your diet is way off. I don't know what your goals are but you absolutely have to eliminate certain foods if you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle. All these bad foods, save them for your cheat day, a day where you can eat anything and everything you want. This is on Saturdays. Here is my own list of foods that are rich in protein, carbs and healthy fats

PROTEIN FOODS
:

Egg Whites
Skinless Boneless Chicken Breasts
Lean Beef steak (Lean Sirloin or Fillet Mignon) - gets very pricey!
Lean Ground Beef
Lean Ground Turkey
Lean Ground Chicken
Fish
Tuna Fish
Cottage Cheese - Excellent source of protein, one of the best.

CARBOHYDRATES: complex carbs (Coplex Carbs are good chain of carbs used for energy. They take a while to break down in your system, therefore they should be avoided after 5 or 6pm for someone that wants to get leaner and lose weight.

Brown or White rice
Oatmeal - Never buy Instant Oatmeal
Grits
Wheat Bread
Baked Potato
Sweet Potato
Pasta
Macaroni
Spaghetti
Pitta bread

Bagel

Wholegrain cereals

High fiber breakfast cereals

Porridge oats

All bran

Wheetabix

Shredded wheat

Ryvita crispbread

Muesli

Cassava
Corn

Yam

Oatcakes

Peas

Beans

Lentils

SIMPLE CARBS
- Simple Carbs (Simple carbohydrates are usually considered to be "bad" carbs, but these are those that have been processed and broken down before being put back together again in an unnatural way such as to produce a sweet product like chocolate. Natural simple carbohydrates are the best carbs to include in the diet, especially if trying to lose weight. )

Apples

Blackberries

Blackcurrants

Cherry

Cranberries

Grapefruit

Kiwi

Lemon

Melon

Oranges

Peach

Pear

Plum

Raspberries

Strawberries

I always recommend after a workout that YOU must have PWO (post work out whey protein shake) and some source of simple carbs listed above. Simple carbs are a MUST after a heavy workout. Simple carbs are fast acting carbs that enter blood stream immediately and they should be taken immediately after training because your COMPLEX CARBS you took earlier in the day are spent.

The list below shows some food products that contain a large percentage of simple carbohydrates. Foods containing lots of added table sugar can also be added to the list. These foods contain lots of added sugar and most are high in calories. These foods should be limited to lose weight. ABSOLUTELY AVOID THESE

Table sugar

Cakes

Biscuits - plain

Jam

Chocolate

Fudge

Candy

Toffee

Gums

Boiled sweets

Mint Sweets

Liquorice

Honey

Soft drinks

Tinned fruits

Chutney

Pickle

Puddlings - some

HEALTHY FATS
:

- Peanut Butter (natural) - also good source of protein
- Almonds
- Flax Seed Oil
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Fish Oil
- Nuts
- Walnuts
- Pistachios

SUPPLIMENTS YOU SHOULD/MUST HAVE

1. WATER
2. Protein
3. Glutamine
4. Vitamins

Now, there's also two types of protein shakes. Whey Protein and Casein Protein. Whey Protein is a fast acting protein drink that enters blood stream very quickly and this should be taken 35 min. before workout and immediately after a workout together with some source of simple carbs listed above. Casein protein drink is slow acting protein and should be taken EARLY in the morning so your body has enough protein levels to keep you going throughout the day. Casein Protein appears to be a lot thicker when you drink it, and makes you full quickly. Casein protein also should be used before bed time, so your body has good amounts of protein as you're sleeping. If your body doesn't have enough protein when you sleep, your muscles naturally store protein and "save" protein..when your "protein savings" are spent your muscles will start to decrease, you will end up losing weight and you will lose muscle mass. You don't want this to happen.

I hope I covered everything here. You can literally create your own diet with the foods I've combined above. You just have to be creative that's all. Ciao :)

I'm gonna whip up some pasta with mayo and chicken in it for my dinners, any kind of chicken I should buy? Not sure whether to buy a full frozen chicken, or slices, or grilled ... or whatever other kinds there are?

I understand mayo is pretty bad for you, but I'll use low-fat mayo.
