PES 2011 Discussion thread

I'm still in shock at how good this game is, from the demo :)

Konami have done a brilliant job here, there are no major issues now, just minor ones :)

There is so much satisfaction when you score a goal on this game, you really have to work your nuts off to do it on Top Player, FIFA can't give that satisfaction in my opinion.

Like other people have said, every player feels different and plays differently, I could play this demo 24 hours a day if I could :D

Oh, by the way, try -2 game speed on the demo, I found it a lot more realistic

lol Jimmy, 14 hours and you didn't score against CPU on Top Player? blimey :O I'm struggling too, to be honest, but thats a good thing. Have you had a problem where the CPU don't seem to score against you though? I've had a lot of 0-0's

Well, I also got the demo yesterday, but was only able to play two games :( I played both with the Copa teams, since I don't like to play with the big guns, and I had a good time.

I'm not sure if it was the hype, or having already played the online beta, but initially I felt a bit underwhelmed. The graphics were better than what I remembered, though, and the AI is good.

I'm liking the game as everyone else is, so I'm not going to repeat every single compliment everyone has said so far, even though they are well deserved.

I couldn't get the tricks to work well - what does the "Link Feints" mean? How can I execute the second feint in the list? Is it L2 + twice the movement in the right stick, or does it mean that I can only do it AFTER I did the first feint? Just to clear it up for me... I agree with unbornchikkenvoices in regards to the feint selection, that's how I put it.

I LOVED the tactics setup, though. Setting my team to play in different styles depending on the time of the match, and depending on whether I am losing, leading, or tied is great and it easy to use.

Another thing I think you might like to hear is that in the Team Management screen (the one where you set the strategies for each time frame), you have an option "Auto Trigger Settings" or something like it where you can disable the auto sliding tackle. Yes, you read that right - and probably read it here first :P I'm not sure how effective that is, but it's nice to have that option.

What other comments I have... I still resent the fact that the radar becomes translucent when you're playing in the bottom part of the screen - that just plain sucks.

I also had a penalty, and I was sad to see that the ref didn't give a card - just like in PES 2008, PES 2009 and PES 2010. The CPU hacked me from behind when I was 1 on 1, and the cutscene was the usual - where the players objected, the ref was telling them to give him room, but no card was shown, sadly.

One final comment regarding the whole team selection debacle. I am somewhat confident that you will be able to select the Copa teams in the friendly match. After all, in the demo all 4 teams are in the "PES Teams" section in each match mode - meaning that Bayern isn't in "Other Teams", Barça isn't in the Spanish League, and the 2 Copa teams aren't in the "Latin America" teams.

Since the friendly match mode does have a slot for "Other Latin America Teams" that is empty at the moment, I have hope that they will be there.

Let's see how it goes! Looking forward to getting home and playing some more :)

I think it's L3 + R3 now, though I haven't tried it. You can read all about the controls in the Control List option, in the menu.

I found out that you can pull off most of the feints without the link feint system - they're just more complicated, a mix of the left and right stick sometimes and R2 or L2. Go check it out!

I played about 7 hours v CPU Top Player and never as Barca, mainly the Copa teams. My defending is good so got alot of 0-0 draws but also by the odd goal or two. The defence is as stubborn as PES 2010's on Top Player, i'm finding it hard but loving it. Would be easier for me to play as Bayern and possibly score but I much prefer lesser teams

Just scored my first !!! :WOOT:

Yeah me too, I've played as all the teams so far, I love how different each one feels :)

I'm also good at defending so it seems, but the CPU didnt seem to shoot much on Top Player, or perhaps I was lucky.

Dilemma, I'm out of work at the moment (only good thing about that is PES2011 Demo time!!), but I want PES2011 so bad when it comes out, but thing is I usually play on PC cause my Mum hogs the TV downstairs (Emmerdale, Corrie & Eastenders all the fecking time, grr), but I wanna play online on ps3 against your arse and woop it :O decisions!

Dont particularly want to buy it for PS3 AND PC, what with my finance situation :E

Don't like the sound of that, having it as a default trick :O Pressing L3 & R3 in sounds like a weird way of doing it :E

Anyway, I dont like to use diving, cause its cheating, but was just out of curiosity really if they a) had removed it or b) changed it

Oh nice one that you can set it to a default trick. I never ever tried it in earlier versions because the combination was impossible for me to pull off since I don't have my fingers on both L1+L2 at the same time. Finally I can start to cheat!

Is dive there in this version ?

One thing is for sure is that the feint link system doesnt work in the demo. You cannot assign tricks to the right stick and have them work in game, which is a shame. It always reverts back to the default. I've tried everyway possible, they dont work.

Also, for anyone have any issues with making your players make runs, the system that was implemented in PEs 2010 works again in PES 2011. After you press pass, if you then tap R2 before the ball reaches its intended target, then the player that initiated the pass makes a run forward into space. It's like delayed 1-2, only you choose after you have struck the pass rather than prior. It's very useful for those that dont know. :)

The question I'm asking myself is if that effective anyway.In PES2010 I've never been given either a penalty or a FK.

I'm only on 360. In PES 2010 I really wished I could dive because in that game you never got any freekicks even if you got hacked down from behind.

I want to play it so bad, by the sound of it I will love it because the only things that people complain about are the stuff that doesn't have to do with the fundamentals of football. Sounds like football brains will really enjoy this game.

Finally, I scored my first goal against Top Player Ai, and what a goal :WOOT:

I fancy myself as a bit of a dead-ball specialist on PES games, the free-kick system has been exactly the same for as long as I can remember. This is my first on PES 2011, and I got everything just right. The bend and dip is beautiful, who needs Beckham when you have Baez. :LOL:

Paulo, press L1 + RS for the preset tricks. It's in the command controls but it takes some digging! I don't like the layout of the controls list at all. It needs upgrading to something much more concise like a Tekken/VF graphical style.

There are a couple of tricks that clearly stretch the mocap actor - that dragback pass fake looks very laboured. Still, the fundamentals are generally pretty good.

I love some of the runs you can go on with Ribery. If I decide to dribble then I go on those Giggs-esque slaloms from left to right, changing direction when the defender isn't looking. The AI is mostly too good to be beaten once he gets into back-pedalling mode but that just makesit more exciting when you do make good ground before laying it off to the fullback.
 
Really enjoying the game so far, have scored some really nice goals including the most amazing diving header which practically bust the net lol

That's a lovely goal! I like the way the ball dips, especially from that last angle. Personally I really struggle with set-pieces but then again, they were so easy and exploitable on FIFA it'll take some getting used to.
 
wow, loving that CPU goal. unpredictability, ingenuity and flair from the AI. Cant remember the last time I actually applauded a CPU goal :WORSHIP: Should make for a great challenge.

Also love the last ditch attemps to tackle completely taking out the striker, but all in vain as he just gets up and runs off to celebrate
 
Boy oh boy the graphics of the game is stunning. This is way ahead of pes2010. Its not even close the player movement, turns and twist and animations already just blows Pes2010 out of the park. I can't wait for ML on this already.

I have one qualms though, players are not making forward runs as already suggested without pressing R2. Also looks like the tackling will be exploited a lot online since the ref is whistle happy or am i jumping the gun here.

I am way outta depth on this one... I need to re learn the whole game once again...Misplaced passes all over and like a deer caught up......
