Nice group for us. Only Czech Rep. might cause a trouble to us. Because they're very strong and well disciplined team. Portugal is a great team too but they've a personal game style. If we dont let to play their stars, we can beat them because I dont see a team playing at Portugal. I dont talk about Swiss because there is a one case didnt closed and we've to take our revenge.

Who decided to change the formula after Quarter finals ?
What's the point for a team to play against his group opponent before the finale ? We now have 2 sides competing for a place in finale (A&B vs C&D). It sucks.

That format was used in WC2002 and WC2006 - basically turning the competition into two 16 team tournaments with the winners of each meeting in the final

2002 was due to the two hosts, not sure why they continued this last year though.

Euro04 was definetly not like this otherwise Portugal would of met Greece in the semi finals again rather than the final itself.

yep youre right apologies.

For 2006 they took a team from each of the 8 grps and then went into having two sides of the knockout stage.

So basically it was only 2002 that this sytem was used due to the frictions between S Korea & Japan (effectively 1 tournament in one country the other tournament in the other)
