Re: World Cup 2006 Germany: Qualifiers Thread

Why is there not a separate Official England WC Qualifier/National Team Thread????

I also would've expected much more of a discussion on the game from you guys. Wassup??

Re: World Cup 2006 Germany: Qualifiers Thread

well there used to be, but i just felt that maybe this could be a place where everyone can discuss all the WC preparations and the WC itself.

anyhow, yea i already said a little bit about the match, but i felt the england played an all around special game. we started off particularly well, and after lampards gol we hit the woodwork on rooneys drive and forced paul jones into making several acrobatic saves. this happened throughout the match, leaving paul robinson not much to do, but when he was called upon, he stood tall. rio and sol looked good again, and as i said before, gary took care of giggsy throughout.

rooney never seemed to be pressed for time, and took every chance he had well. he picked up the ball deep in the midfield, where scholesy used to master. lampard seemed pretty much invisible after his gol, safe when he went to celebrate becks wonder gol. becks and butt's triumphant return to OT was well anticipated and both played critical roles in the two gols, butt whacked the ball into the area before owen tipped it to lampard; and of course becks with the gol.

our strikers were good at times, but owen more so than defoe. some of owen's runs were impossible to stop, and if not for some mediocre finishing, we would have been run away victors

subs were hargreaves, smith and king, all of whom were on for too short a time to really tell what they could've done to the outcome of the match; which (for those who didnt/dont know) ended 2-0.

If you find one, let me know... Haven't seen that yet!

1-0 against Azerbaibloodyjan, surely that's not a good thing really? 1-0 against a country hardly reknowned for their footballing abilities?

Or do most of the England followers agree with "Mark on 606"?!

Portugal 7 - 1 Russia

After a very bad game against Liechenstein, the portuguese team played their best against a very weak Russia

Re: World Cup 2006 Germany: Qualifiers Thread

Portugal smashed Russia, what an answer to the draw against Liechenstein. Some amazing goals from distance by Deco, Cristiano Ronaldo, Simão and Petit...

Portugal alé Portugal alé... :D

Re: World Cup 2006 Germany: Qualifiers Thread

I forgot a funny detail about Portugal: i'm not sure if it was on 5-1 or 6-1 that the russian coach left the bench to go to the dressing room. He couldn't stand to watch Portugal's amazing football anymore... :D:D:D:D

Re: World Cup 2006 Germany: Qualifiers Thread

Good win by the Dutch after a terrible start. The first 20 minutes was probably the worst 20 minutes of football Holland have ever played. After that it got better and with a little help from the Fins and some luck we scored 3. RVN looked sharp and I can't help comparing him with guys like Inzaghi and Gerd Muller, although VanDerWendan sr tells me Muller was less technical.
Landzaat played a very good game. I don't see van Bommel starting the next game, because Sneijder played one of his better matches this year as well in midfield. Davids as a left back wasn't a great success, I'd rather see him back in midfield the next game. All in all a pretty good game if you forget the first part. I still don't have much faith though. We still have to play Romania twice and the Chechs (sp) away.

Re: World Cup 2006 Germany: Qualifiers Thread

I think we are Kel, I wish Makaay would start though. I don't mind where, put him LW, it's all the same as long as he starts. I hope van Basten will see that too.

Re: World Cup 2006 Germany: Qualifiers Thread

Andorra 1 - Macedonia 0
Apparently it was the first ever vitory of Andorra on a qualifiers game. Good for them :)

And Liechtenstein smashed Luxembourg 4-0! These guys are unstopable now, after drawing with Portugal no one will stop them. Will see them in Germany! eheheh

Re: World Cup 2006 Germany: Qualifiers Thread

it's not really a qualifyer, but this is quite shocking news innit:

Sky Sports said:
Pires Axed by France

Robert Pires has been left out of the France squad for the upcoming friendly clash with Poland.

The Arsenal winger was not called up by Raymond Domenech for the November 17 game following a row between the pair.

Indeed, Pires has been asked to meet with the France Football Federation this week to explain his view on an argument over sponsors, although the original date of the discussion needs to be rescheduled.

Domenech has introduced three uncapped players to the 19-man squad - Florent Malouda (Lyon), Camel Meriem (Bordeaux) and Sylvain Armand (Paris St Germain).

There is no place for Manchester City's Nicolas Anelka ahead of the Stade de France encounter with Domenech preferring to recall Manchester United's Louis Saha, despite his lack of goals so far this term.

However, the biggest question is whether Pires is merely being rested or was left out due to his poor relationship with the coach.

Squad:
Fabien Barthez (Marseille)
Mickael Landreau (Nantes)

Eric Abidal (Lyon)
Sylvain Armand (PSG)
Jean-Alain Boumsong (Rangers)
William Gallas (Chelsea)
Gael Givet (Monaco)
Sebastien Squillaci (Monaco)

Florent Malouda (Lyon)
Rio-Antonio Mavuba (Bordeaux)
Camel Meriem (Bordeaux)
Benoit Pedretti (Marseille)
Willy Sagnol (Bayern Munich)
Patrick Vieira (Arsenal)

Pierre-Alain Frau (Lyon)
Ludovic Giuly (Barcelona)
Sidney Govou (Lyon)
Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
Louis Saha (Manchester United).

Re: WC06 Thread (qualifiers and friendlies)

turkey-ukraine 0:3, again a wonderful game by our (fenerbahce)-defenders, i dont understand why this fucking coach builds a defence with fenerbahce defenders who got 13 goals in 4 matches in the CL.

i hope he resigns and we get a foreign coach i cant see these corrupt faces anymore.

Re: WC06 Thread (qualifiers and friendlies)

Well done to Greece and to Serbia and Montenegro.
