Read his username backwards and stop being nice to him. :)

I just listened to your mix and enjoyed it even though I'm not a specialist in such music, so, nice one. If that compliment counts for anything...

Its such a big shame that these days Trance is NOT proper Trance! its all cheesy bullshit like Baywatch Theme Tune Remakes etc... That turned me to listen to Rock/Indie music that I once dismissed. I blame the likes of Ian Van Dahl and Flip & Fill which made it all cheesy back in 2001 the year Proper Trance took a dive!

Ministry of Sound also have a huge part to play in that too... a quick history Lesson:

The Annual I - The 1st one and it was a classic! good tunes and 2 decent mixes from Tongy and Boy George
The Annual II - Better than the 1st one! brilliant! Tongy did try to be too clever with some mixes and bodged them up!
The Annual III - Continued to be good
The Annual IV - Judge Jules comes in and mixes up a storm! it started to commercialise a lot at this point.
The Annual Millennium Edition (1999) - Tall Paul comes in and the album is good. Some tracks are cut hurrendously short and the commercialisation continues.
The Annual 2000 - The last good one done by PROPER DJ's Commercialism rises again!
Clubbers Guide To 2001 - Last Ministry CD mixed by a decent DJ... Tall Paul. Mix Editing was diabolical (done by the guy who mixes the next CD in the series!)
Annual 2002 (2001) - what the fuck is with this shit? 3 cd's? Garage and who the fuck mixed this? Commercialism at its maximum and that has continued to this day...

LoL, I've just read this somewhere else ;)

I'll post here also my reply so maybe we can know also what other people think about it:
yes dj, the style of Ian Van Dahl changed a lot over the last 3 or 4 years.. Listening to "Castles in the sky" and then to "Just a girl" shows all the difference.
They dropped the trance style they had until "Reason" to start producing commercial stuff.. Just a girl, though being a good song in his genre, is everything but trance with that distorted guitar and that bass..

Blank and Jones seem th ones that improved over the last years instead of becoming commercial.. Cream was a good one, I didn't like After love that much for being a little too commercial. DFF actually was good, but as I said, for me they reached the top with "Mind of the wonderful".
Also, Catch is not a bad one, but it can't be compared to Mind of the wonderful.

well, I think this has more likely to be discussed in the proper trance/dance/house thread

Never mind mate, Ministry was once a great thing. It was what Dance Music was all about.

talkin' to me?

I've started listening to the progressive house/progressive trance chart of a local radio in late 90s, let me say 1996, when the most played songs were "Metropolis" by DJ Dado, "Bakerloo symphony" by Picotto and "Noise maker theme" by Gigi, for example..

Then, over the years, the chart slowly turned out being a techno/trance chart eventually changing its name from "Progresshit" to "Alternativehit" and so from 1998 to 2002 I had the opportunity to listen to people like Paul Van Dyk, Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo, Armin Van Buuren, Blank & Jones and artists like those, but since 2002 the music started being very different, very commercial (and this is quite predictable, being broadcasted).
Ian Van Dahl and friends were dropped in favour of artists like Groove Coverage (I like their stuff, but it's so commercial.. it's good if you want to have a dance without thinking about it that much), Redwing, Rave allstars, Plazmatek and so on..

In 2004 the show ended being interesting (broadcasting only techno and hardstyle) and I started looking for trance tracks by myself.. also in 2005 a friend of mine made me listen to "Mind of the Wonderful" and that one really bewitched me..

To be honest I've been more into house in the last period due to the fact the most of my friends listen to that genre, but I'd always listen with pleasure to some good old trance tune \\:o/

I first got into Dance/Trance when I 1st started Secondary School in 1995. I had the Annual I by Ministry and loved it! I then became a big Paul Van Dyk and Ferry Corsten fan from 1998 onwards.

"Metropolis" by DJ Dado

i played that tune at a house party on saturday night!!

omg - that was my favourite tune EVER for about 3 or 4 years, but only the radio version. didn't think much of the club mix.

i've never heard it on the radio or in a club. it was only by chance that i discovered it on 'more than miles volume 1' way back in the summer of 1996, otherwise i would never have heard it...

obsolute belter of a tune!

i loved the tune, redwing - place to be
it's very commercial compared to B&J stuff but it's worth indeed.
sweet lyrics and a kinda "powerful" melody resulted in it being passed a lot on that radio in late 2002.

one New disc of HouseMusic can someone recommend me
It depends on the kind of house you prefer.. the house music in "Supalova" is certainly different from the one you'll find in "Dance parade"..

but I can easily suggest you some recent tracks for you to listen if you want, some electronic house tracks and some more commercial ones to suit any preference:
Sunrise avenue - Fairytale gone bad (Supermodels from paris rmx)
Kurd Maverick - let's work
Rihanna - Umbrella (Haji & Emanuel rmx)
Mark Ronson - Stop me (Dirty South rmx)
Masters at work - Work (Kenny Hayes club addiction)
Chic flowerz pres. Patrice Strike - Girl
Martin Solveig - Rejecton (Ian Carey rmx)
Sharam - Be the change
Sunfreakz - Counting down the days (Axwell vocal rmx)
DJ Dami & Relight orchestra - Woman
Spoonface - Too fast
Yves Larock - Rise up
The house keepers - Runaway
Freemasons - Nothing but a heartache
DJ Antione - This time

In reply to the talk about trance being stuff like the Baywatch theme, you're obviously looking in the wrong places! Put down your Clubland albums, the Ministry Of Sound toss that's put out nowadays, and you can forget the Big Tunes compilations too.

You're more likely to find the proper trance on online radio stations, or at the Godskitchen or Gatecrasher clubs in the UK (R.I.P. Gatecrasher in Sheffield!), I'm not sure about abroad but true trance is definitely not gone. The style of it has evolved as all music genres do.. I'd say the golden era was 1998-2002, and since then more progressive styles have influenced the main flow of trance music, with last some well-known producers going electro (Lange, Armin van Buuren.. which kinda followed the trend Ferry Corsten started since 2003), and this year I personally reckon has been the best since the golden era, there's a lot of epic trance out there. In the styles of for example Ace Da Brain there's a producer called Wandii, or in the style of Gouryella there's an artist called Selu Vibra. Other guys to look out for are Daniel Kandi, Sean Tyas, Algarve, DJ Eco, Carl B...

Tune into Afterhours.fm, or Di.fm for a few hours and you'll see that there's more to life than commercial compilations and wank bastard music channels.
