The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim [All Platforms]

What type of combat do you two specialise in to be overpowering enemies? I went the two handed route trying to build a Conan (Schwarzenegger not the new pussy) style brute and I am thinking its not such a wise choice. I have my two handed around 60 and loads of perks but when I face a group of 3 or more Drugar I am getting my ass kicked. I am 30 hours in and around level 25, yet to do the Greybeard quest, I think it may be time to switch focus or I will struggle later on.

Archery + one handed sword with shield, prefer to soften the enemies up with arrows from range then finish off with sword when they're in close range :)

Same, although I've not ranked up archery as much as I should, still in the late 20's I think. One-handed is around 50 I think.

At level 25, it's probably too late to switch. I've read that up to level 15, you rank up really quickly but then it tails off a lot and becomes more difficult to increase stats. At level 25, it'd take forever to increase the other stats.

My Daedric Bow I crafted has a Damage rating of 122.

It helps that I've got gauntlets which offer 30% damage increase with bows and also a ring I enchanted with another 15% multiplier.

i do that but as a mage :P

using sneak i throw fireballs from distance and finish the enemy with a sword, of course that with strong enemies i have to use different strategy.

The damage rate depends on the ability with the weapon, it´s only 122 because your character is good at archery. If someone with 10 archery would try to use the bow it would have less than 40 rating i bet.

Scutch are you making these damage ratings up? :P

How powerful is magic when its been leveled up a bit? Is it as deadly as arrows & swords or is it just there to do a bit of damage before you go in with the sharp stuff? My Magicka is still on 100, probably too late to start using it now if what Dags said is true.

The problem with magic is that while it's all good to inflict damage, if someone farts on you then you die. The only way I can see around it is constantly drinking potions and casting spells to try and increase your health before a fight.

Haha, no not making it up mate. Briefly :

My Archery skill is currently 72, I think.
I have enchanted Gauntlets (gloves) which give 30% extra damage with bows. I also have a ring which gives 15% extra damage with bows. So that's stacked already.

I've tested this and the damage rating of the bow without wearing that apparel goes down to high 80s/early 90s. So wearing apparel that adds damage multipliers works very well.

Not only that, but when I crafted the Daedric bow, I then went to the Grindstone (which improves weapons) and strengthened the bow. Having a high smithing skill increases the output. When I use the grindstone or the workbench, I always go into my items list and put on my Gloves which have an enchantment for smithing (increases quality by 25%).

It all helps.

I don't really need to collect weapons now. I have a high enough smithing level as well as all the perks except Dragon armour perk so I can make any item I wish (except Dragon armour like I say). So, all I need is the minerals and stones to create the weapon or armour. For example, for an Ebony bow you need 3 Ebony ingots and leather strips. That's all. Yet once it's been made, you can then sell it for much more than it cost for the items it took to craft it. You also have the option of using the grindstone to improve it (costing another Ebony ingot) and then taking it to an Enchanting table and placing magicka on it. You can triple it's value in 2-3 steps, costing you very little.

You can be a mage using light armor, you have a decent protection and still makes a lot of damage with spells, also be good with sword helps when the magika is all used...

That is the difference, the bow only makes 80/s or 90/s damage because you have 72 on archery. Even if you use an ordinary bow will already make much more damage than someone with 20 archery. The game is really good by rewarding the player on the weapons that he uses more, so we naturally make our own class.

I was going to go pure mage, conjuration specialist - but yeah, was getting pummeled anytime someone touched me. So am now a High Elf with full set of enchanted glass armor - am a fair bit more robust.

My strategy:

Use High Elf super recharge magic thing (awesome)
Summon a Storm Atronauch in the room/ area
Let them make friends
Walk in and blow everything else to hell with dual cast chain lightning

Pretty much means I can't use a follower as Bethesda seriously screwed the pooch on magicians and friendly fire, but yeah, I bring the party.

Do the Dark Brotherhood have a side quest similar to the Thieves Guild? I may have made a mistake if so.

I met a kid, he wanted his orphanage owner killed, I obliged. I later went to sleep in a small camp outside of a town, I woke up in an abandoned shack with some woman telling me I should not of took the kids quest as that was theirs. She had 3 captives and told me to kill one, I killed her instead and it turns out she was the leader of the Dark Brotherhood. This then lead me on a quest to kill the entire Brotherhood. I was well rewarded for this but if they have a side quest like the Thieves Guild then I would of rather joined them and went on their quests.

One of my flatmates has this game and lets me play it when he's at work! :)

I'm a level 19 Dark Elf and have specialised in sneaking and archery - it's so cool, I have the "Assassin's Blade" perk which makes sneak attacks with daggers do 15x normal damage, and then the "Shrouded Gloves" which double this.

I mainly try sneaking around dual-wielding my ebony and dwarven daggers, as a sneak attack is pretty much always a one-hit kill with the 30x multiplier (just killed a Frost Troll in one!), and I love the way you get the finishing move animation so often doing this :D.

I've enchanted both of my daggers - one does frost damage, the other shock damage.
My Glass Bow is enchanted with the 1 second soul trap, so anything I kill with it fills a soul gem, which I then use to charge the daggers.

From what Scutch has been saying though, I definitely need to level up my smithing, 122 damage on a bow... Holy shit! Mine's only 30 I think!

Everyone else I know who plays Skyrim is being a "good guy", so I've taken the opposite route - being a total cunt! :D
I just steal anything that could prove useful, have joined the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood and sometimes even just go murdering random civilians if they aren't important to my quests.

It's quite cool how it works though when you do kill NPCs - I killed the guy who owns the Whiterun Stables, but instead of now being unable to buy a horse, his son now sells the horses... After sending hired thugs to kill me, who turned up in the middle of a quest!

Yeah, the questline for the Dark Brotherhood is pretty cool actually, I'm near the end of it I think and it's been great so far, shame you've missed out on it :(

Loving this. Still.

Continuing the College of Winterhold quests now. Just got the 3 books back from that dungeon.

Persuaded the Mage (The Caller) to let me have them and be away. She agreed. I shot her in the back 1 hit kill.

Everyone's a winner. Except her.

Loving this game. level 12 nwo but i have a stupid bounty on me and the guy im suppose to deliver some false documents tells me that i have to either pay 1k of gold, got to jail or fight him. i chose to fight him but the bastard wont die. He simply cannot die even if all his health is gone. probably because his part of a quest objective :(

I got the bounty when i was in some "inn" getting the original documents fom the Stormcloud people and they guy wanted to fight me so i killed him plus the owner of the "inn" LMAO.

i had a message popped up saying i have a 40 bounty on me but it then later said i have killed all witnesses so i though im good to go :)

i guess not :(

im working for the imperior crew. my plan is to earn their trust and then kill the general/leader and take control of imperior. They are the ones who try to kill u in the beginning of the game. Is that achievable? My mate said he took control of whiterun in a similar fashion.

Got myself some glass armour and a glass helmet last night, enchanted them with +8 light armour and an extra archery damage perk, also wearing some handy gloves which give 25% extra lockpicking and extra 1-handed damage, boots where I move silently, so now I'm feeling pretty good defensively.

I haven't got around to making a glass sword yet so still using my Skyforge steel sword that's enchanted and has 61 damage (not much, I know).

In saying that, I unlocked Daedric armour and weapons last nignt so I'll be on the hunt for materials to make those as well now.

This could interest someone playing the PC version:

Skyrim Kinect

The Kinect controls on Skyrim made by KinectFAAST seem to work pretty much flawless. It features swinging of weapons, casting of spells, movement and even speech recognition to quickly select inventory items! I love how you are able to select different weapons, spells and shields by just saying the name of the item! Just say it and you’ll get it!

The movement also seems like it works very well. You use your left arm to look around and by stepping forward you make your character move forward. Strafing is also possible and is done by leaning left and right. It might seems like a lot to make your character move but judging from the video (especially the parts where he is fighting) it seems to be intuitive, easy and accurate!

I’m not sure how much work it took KinectFAAST to create this control scheme but judging from the fact that Skyrim hasn’t been out that long it didn’t take him much time. Bethesda could’ve easily added this and well, maybe they still can with a Skyrim Kinect patch! So Betheda: Please look at this video, see that it is awesome.

Sod that off, you'd be knackered just walking around a city nevermind exploring and fighting!

If you get stuck, it's fine to turn back. Frost trolls and the like were a NIGHTMARE at the start. Now they barely make a scratch on me and take a few hits before I kill them. Sometimes enemies are just too high a level for you at the time.

Just spent about 15000 gold to make around 500 daggers to get my smithing up to 100. Well worth it and I was able to make about 10000 gold back selling all the crap I had in my chest at home and making stuff using my smithing. I used my ultimate smithing skills to upgrade a dagger given to me by a Daedric called Mehrune, it now has a damage of 29 and a chance to instantly kill. Add to that the gloves I have that double dagger damage and the sneak perk I have that does 15x backstab damage it should kill alot of enemies instantly with a total of 870 damage, beat that Scutchie :LMAO:.

Haha. Well, there is always the downside of leveling up one skill rapidly like that, in that your overall rank will also have shot up many levels, so the world around you has also levelled up and because you haven't spread your skills out like you would if you were leveling up proper, it could make your game much harder.

But yeah, Smithing is a great skill to max out. Maybe not all in one go ;)

Indeed. Frost Trolls have never given me a problem. I can take them out in 2 hits with the bow in sneak mode.

Must be a powerful bow. I encountered my first frost troll, on the way to the greybeards. It kept kicking my ass, so i used my Nordic battle cry and it scuttled off (for 30 seconds), leaving me (oh and Lydia) enough time to leg it!

I'm learning the way of the voice now :))
