The Christmas Thread

Last year was so shite, I think I sold half the stuff I had for Christmas on eBay or the Gipsy Jean section of the Evening Leader. Don't get me started on family, thank god I only keep Christmas confined to just the parents and, this year, the missus - some members of the family, especially on my dad's side, make me fucking cringe! :spid:

Xmas is fine until you get a steady Partner or Married, then it becomes the family fest from hell... Your only hope then is to have kids and wait till they are old enough to buy the toys you secretly want for them..

LOL well when you're married and both living thousands of miles away from your respective families it just becomes a 9 day weekend (the wife has next week off), obviously for me every day is a weekend ;)

Sorry Nick I disagree - I have had a steady partner for 3 years and Xmas gets better every time. I look forward to seeing her excited niece and nephew open their presents, I look forward to me and my lady opening presents together and seeing her smile as she gets the gifts she wasn't expecting, I love the cosy house decorated with tinsel, trees and cards, I love the warm fire warming up a cold living room, I love enjoying the Boxing Day footy with Baileys on ice, I love XMAS!

:)

Absolutely hate the commercial side of Christmas, it puts way too much stress on countless numbers of people for no reason and I think its sends the wrong message to the youth of today, its all a bullrun, its all money, I'm not saying its all bad but its gone WAY out of proportion (like scary), to me what's important is just being with family or friends or both, sitting around having a few drinks and having a laugh

Sounds like a Werthers Original advert at your house.
Ours always ends up a drunken brinkmanship of family feuds..
"Ho ho.. Bollocks....."
Then we have to visit my partners family, damn there's hundreds of the in bread buggers...

Christmas used to be the time of year when loads of high quality games would be released, there used to be a period of about 4 or 5 months before Christmas where almost nothing decent was released, then you'd get 20 or 30 big titles released on various system, this year almost nothing of note, when did that change?

We probably won't buy each other presents, we decided the Christmas present would be a 2nd 360 + 42" LCD for the bedroom so we can each have a 360 + HD LCD in the bedroom to play on, gonna be so cool when GTAIV comes out and we're playing it at the same time

Thats sounds great!!!

I love xmas aswell, love all the decorations and stuff. Shopping is a bitch, but you just have to think it all out before you go and then you can do it pretty quickly.

As for the game question, I think they have realised that the top selling games at xmas are mostly the generic well known ones (NFS,fifa, etc) and that the actual top titles get lost in the crowd. So now they release them all a couple of months before hand allowing the hardcore to buy most of the top games while also giving the opportunity to allow mums & dads the time to actually find out which games the kids want instead of just picking up the golden compass or something as equally shit when they walk into the store.

I did notice this aswell though, we had a period that we were overwhelmed with top titles leading up to xmas but then now we are actually in that period nothing of note is getting released.

If there's one thing all the game magazines agree on it is that this years' Christmas period is maybe the best ever in terms of quality games... i've been reading the same thing in 4 different magezines. Edge even gave Mario Galaxy a perfect 10...the first time since i'm reading it...

Bioshock
Halo 3
FIFA08
COD 4
Mario Galaxy
Crysis
Assasin's Creed
Drake's fortune
and i forget a zillion others..

yeah i think we forget as adults we can buy games whenever you want, when you were a kid, you only got games for xmas, at least i did, so if bioshock came out in november I wouldnt have gotten it until christmas.

Take a look at Gomito's post...to me every game from september on is a potential christmas game...
You see that game developers "peak" a litle bit earlier than a couple of years ago: october-november...
Besides who has all the money to buy all these games and the people who do have the money usually don't have the time...

If a game comes out in September it's an autumn game, if a game comes out in December it's a Christmas game, I don't buy all this American commercialised bullshit "holiday season" that runs from September - January.

Edit: And seeing as Bioshock came out in August, if you're only getting it at Christmas you're 1. a lazy fucker who should get a job 2. not getting it anyways cos if you're parents are so cheap they won't buy you it when it came out in August they're certainly too cheap to buy you a 360 anyway ;)

There is more to Xmas than bloody gaming! It is a time for families, footy, mates, drinking and food!

I BOUGHT MATCHBOX TWENTY TICKETS FOR MY GIRLFRIEND AND WHEN I FOUND OUT SHE BOUGHT ME A PAIR OF SHOES I SOLD THE TICKETS. BITCH.

I remember on Christmas day 2002, it was the hottest Christmas in England. The sun was out and everything.

On that day me and 6 of my friends from the estate went and played a football match in the park!

Then later on about 5 or 6 more people came and we were playing World Cup Knockouts and all soughts. We were in the park playing football from about 9.30am to 1pm!

Thats probably the strangest Christmas i've ever had!
