The Browser Thread: FF, Chrome, IE, Opera, Safari

Installed Windows 7 on my computer today and decided to give Safari 4 BETA another chance. Glad I did as it is still super fast but seems to be a lot quicker loading itself when you first open it :)). Also the top sites feature works on my PC :)).

I've just started using Firefox and it seems to be much faster than IE. I just like using alot more :DD

I try to visit the Engadget website on a daily basis but 80% of the time when I click on a link it crashes my Firefox browser. I've tried to view the site in IE but the site crashes that browser too.

Does anyone know what I can do to solve this?

Working fine here with FF 3.0.10 + Windows 7

Hmmm, I'll try Safari.

EDIT: No luck, the same link crashes Safari too.

That doesn't work either.

I always forget to trim it down.

The page doesn't crash now but the video won't show.

What did you do?

Did you ever uninstall the plugin?

Go to the plugins tab, like mj said and deactivate some of them.
Or you can try using Firefox in safe mode.

I disabled the flash (Shockwave) plugin and the link opened fine but the video didn't show.

I've enabled it again now and the link crashes the browser.

So at least you know its flash causing the program

Just uninstall flash and re-install it

There is a program on the adobe website that gets rid of it properly

What is the name of the program?

I un-installed flash and then re-installed it with no luck, I did get enough seconds to spot that the video on the link is using a Viddler player. I went to this site and the browser crashed so I'm thinking that this specific player is causing the problem.

Although in general Engadget Classic does crash on me a lot so who knows.

Careful quoting facts like that. JavaScript rendering is only part of web browsing too.

Don't get me wrong, Safari is good and worth a try but Google Chrome uses the same rendering engine. Firefox is always a solid choice and has loads of add-ons available. I use Opera mostly as it does everything I need out of the box. Even IE is good now with version 8.

It's far better trying out the different choices and seeing which you prefer.

As long as no one uses IE6 by choice, we can all bathe in the web safely.

Tobi, this is what you're after.

Thanks, I ran the program but I'm still not getting positive results.

I'm going to wait now for another tech site to have a video hands on.

No error message, it just crashes after a few seconds.
