My most effective formation: 1-3-2-2-2-1

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------SB-------------------------LMF----------------------CF--------------
-----------------------DMF--------------------------------------------------------
-GK----CB---------------------------------------OMF---------------CF----------
-----------------------------------CMF---------------------------------------------
-------------SB-----------------------------------------------------------------WF
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seeing as you're a fellow Juventus fan, how does your best Juventus formation look like?

I usually play with classic brazil since the strongest players are the classics ( +/- true at least u know the things they made and can always inspire watching old videos ;-) ...) and my preferred formation is 4-3-3 very similar to 4-2-4 (like ancient brazil ) and goes like that ...

----------------------GK--------------------------
-------------------(Gilmar)------------------------
------------CB----------------CB-----------------
-RB----(J.Cesar)--------(T.Cerezo)-------LB---
(Falcao)-------------------------------(N.Santos)---
-------------------DM-----------------------------
---------------(Socrates)--------------------------
-----------------------------CM-------------------
---------------------------(Zico)------------------
------------------OM------------------------------
-----------------(Pele)----------------------------
--------------------------------------LW----------
-----------------------------------( Rivelino)-----
--RW----------------------------------------------
(Garrincha)----------------CF---------------------
-------------------------(Tostão)------------------

And of course what makes the difference i think are the atack and defense instructions ( arrows )...just perfect for the type of game of brazil , u can go by the flanks or the middle ... doesn´t matter :p
PS: this tactic is a counter-attack deadly weapon :D

I'm basically a beginner, and starting to play Master League, which formation would be the best for novice players?

I have a new 4-4-2 that has been very effective with the default ML (I've only used it in ML with the default team so far). 5* difficulty, 6 wins and 1 draw so far in the league, and I'm still going in the cup.

It was inspired from watching Liverpool's friendly vs. Celtic and this was my attempt to recreate Liverpool's formation.

To make this, start from the one of the default 4-4-2s the "Arsenal" one with 2 DMFs and 2 OMFs. Move the DMFs forward one click, move the OMFs to the outside one click and as forward as they can go. Then move the CFs as far forward as they can go.

Defensive arrows:

All defensive arrows are set to default so I won't put them in the diagram. The LB is given attacking arrows because I want to see Riise (whenever I get him) get forward. Works well with Eddington for the time being.

Other settings, Manual Attack Level (which I set to 4 (Orange color)), Line Defense, BBBB (for Zone Press, Counter, Offside, etc.) ... I think that is it. So far I haven't used any manual strategies during the game so I haven't set them.

My lineup is (apologize for ML player spelling)

Kelsen
Valery-Vorlander-Djuric-Eddington
Harty-Cellini
Miranda-Ximenes
Huygens-Castello

Huygens has shown to be a scoring machine, w/ Castello right behind. DMFs are getting into the box on occasion as well.

Anyway, I'll play with it more today, and hopefully someone else can give it a shot and let me know how it works. Very easy to make.

Enjoy.

This is very much a pass and move

I take part in a tournament once a month, with complete ranking and statistics, and I get to try a lot of club teams. Anyway, I rarely use the same formation twice in a row, because I have to adapt my team to its players, and not the contrary.

Ok, so enough with blablabla, I have come up with some interesting formations for different teams. One I really liked was this one with Liverpool (but I had signed in Ballack for my team back then):

-------------------------------------------------
!------------------------!-----------OMF2--------
!------------------------!-----------------------
!---------CB------------!-----------------------
!-------------------DMF-!-------------------CF-
!-GK---CB--------------!-----OMF1--------------
!-------------------DMF-!-------------------CF-
!--------CB-------------!-----------------------
!------------------------!-----------------------
!------------------------!------------OMF3-------

CBs= just outside the penalty area
DMFs= just outside the center circle
OMF1= intermediate position between the circle and the penalty area
OMFs2/3= closest to the attack without becoming a WF
CFs= inside the box

Arrows:
Middle CB ->
OMFs 2 and 3 ->
OMF1 <-->
DMFs (arrows up and down)

OMFs 2 and 3 must be fast and skilled and good crossers - Kewell and Owen
CFs must be good at header and have good balance - Heskey and Diouf
OMF 1 must have defensive and offensive skills, and must be able to shoot really well (lots and lots of goals from him) - Ballack
As usual, tall and strong DMFs - Gerrard and Diao (nice surprise this one)
CBs is what you have (I used Hypia as the middle one, Riise on the left (great passing) and Henchoz on the right

Ok, those were my 2 cents.

Anyone have a good attacking 3-5-2? I'm currently using 4-5-1, but I find I don't need 4 defenders, and that I'm basically wasting a spot.

I'm starting my attack with my side backs (Carlos mostly) and moving it through my CMF and DMF until I can get it to my SMFs. I then either cross it into the box or cut in and pass to my OMF.

All in all I need a 3-5-2 that's very similar to 4-5-1, but with an extra forward and minus a defender.

HI!

Please tell me how can I stop Ronaldo??
He's too fast and always alone against my GK (Kahn!!)
I use a 3 - 4 - 3 with one DH (Hamann)

Thanks!

Where are the defensive and attacking arrows in the formation screen on WE8?

Can't seem to find them.

My latest formation, a derivation on the 4-4-2. By turning the typical "RH" into an "OH" I've been able to mix up the attack very well and create a bit of more space for my top striker to make to long ball a bit more effective. Plus, it's my first formation utilizing long defensive arrows for the SBs... very effective.

Yo, my man, I play with exactly the same formation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That`s what I`m talking about!!!!!!!!!!!

The best tatic ever: 3-4-3 (don't know A or B or C) - EVERY TIME AN ATTACKER IS FREE and RUNING... and if the team has 5 or 3 defenders u can use wings to cross in... man this tatic is near cheating... I never lose in 6 stars... Almost all matches I 3 goals more than the other team...

DIV1 so far - 13w 1d (ARSENAL 2x2) 0l
Goals - 51 Goals against - 7

Don't you find the middle to be too crowded to get any through passes?

No man... I always get Rooney or Martins running behind the defenders... then I just use :l1: + :circle: or :triangle: to make through passes...
The secret is wait for a CB to come after you when u are with a OMF... and u just circle then and make the pass... and when a team works with 3 defenders, u can use the wingers to cross to the box... but with these players I can make a lot of through balls every game and put then on one-on-one... sometimes u need to use the map to see who player is rushing forward...

Well.. before show you my WE8 basic tactic let me say that in that game and more then ever it´s more important to have great players then have great tactics because in this game some players real makes it different.

So, my teams are Real Madrid and AS Roma and i use that tactic with both teams:

-----------------------CASILLAS (gk) ----------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------Woodgate (cb)---Samuel (sw)---------------------
---Michel (sb)----------------------------------------R.Carlos (sb)-----
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------Beckham (cmf)-------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------KICK OFF SPOT---------------------------
-------------Figo (OMF)-----------------------------Zidane (OMF)-------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------Raul (CF)-----------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------Owen (CF)-------------------Ronaldo (CF)---------

Starting Lineup and Role:

GK - Casillas
RSB - Michel
LSB - Roberto Carlos
CB - Woodgate
SW - Samuel
CMF - Beckham
OMF - Figo
OMF - Zidane
CF - Raul
CF - Ronaldo
CF - Owen

Attack Atitude:

RSB - Michel :<- & ->
LSB - R Carlos :<- & ->
CB - Woodgate:<-
SW - Samuel:<-
CMF - Beckham: / & \ (2 diagonal backwards)
OMF - Figo: -> & \ ( forward)
OMF - Zidane: -> & / (forward)
CF - Raul
CF - Owen & Ronaldo: ->

Defense Attitude:

GK - Casillas: normal
RSB - Michel: high
LSB - Roberto Carlos: high
CB - Woodgate: high
SW - Samuel: high
CMF - Beckham: high
OMF - Figo: normal
OMF - Zidane: normal
CF - Raul: normal
CF - Ronaldo: low
CF - Owen: low

BackLine: B
Zone Press: A
Off Trap: C
Counter Attack: B

With that tactic you can play wonder football with great sucessive passes in the midfiler and then you go to attack with :triangle: or :x: passes to ronaldo and Owen that just put them in 1on1 situations with the keeper. It´s all about pass the ball many times in the midfiled. Everyone as to touch it. It´s beautiful! believe me! It looks great and you think "wow.. im playing great football just like real madrid did with Del Bosque", everything with 1 touch on the ball. Just forget individual situations but you can use them too with figo or zidane when they go to the sides.

Raul is behind Ronaldo and Owen but he is CF in the tactic cuz e can create great chances behind them and he can also go to the area and score many goals from crosses as he is a good header and very naughty guy inside the area. Zidane , Figo and Raul plus Beckham just pass the ball with 1 touch and then they create spaces to owen and ronaldo.

Beckham is playing in DMF position but his role is CMF because he really plays better being the 1st man catching the ball after taking it from the opposite team or after taking it from the defense. You can also launch counter attacks with Becks as he has an amazing 99 Long Pass. Pass the ball with :circle: to Figo or Zidane or even Raul and you will see.

The Side Back Wingers have an arrow forward and another backwards because they can go up in the field ( michel and roberto carlos attacks so well..) and as they have great stamina and as I put an arrow backwards too they quickly can take their defensive positions in seconds!! that allows you to attack with them and allows you to defend counter attacks from Human Teams that play on the wing ( almost players here in portugal play from the wing.. always the same gameplay, it sucks just looking at the radar and seeing the winger free and passing the ball to him BAH).

That´s it.

Try my tactic , you just need good 9,5 player such as Raul or Totti or Del Piero or even Henry ( 9,5 means he is not a 9 and he is not a 10, he plays immediatly behind the attackers. Ronaldinho is good there too ).

You need 2 good SB with good stamina and you can also change CMF role to DMF role, it works too.

Let´s try it and tell me something about it!

So you play a dribbling game then? I'll try it later, so far I tried the formation and found that I couldn't really make any passes because no one was ever open (OMFs).

After last night win over the Czech Rep. i tried van basten's line up a couple of times.

--------------------Van der Sar------------------

-------De Jong------Heitinga---------Oijer------

----------------------Sneijder--------------------

---Van Bommel-----------------------Davids(c)-

---------------------Van der Vaart---------------

--Castelen---------------------------Overmars---

---------------------Van Hooijdonk----------------

De Jong: marks / high defense
Oijer: marks / high defense
Heitinga: sweeper / normal defense
Sneijder: arrow towards VdV / low defense
Davids: arrow towards Sneijder / high defense
Van Bommel: normal defense
Van der Vaart: arrows towards Castelen and Overmars / normal defense
Castelen: arrow towards Pi-Air and straight / low defense
Overmars (sorry no Kuijt in Holland yet): arrow towards Pi-Air and straight / normal defense.
Pi-Air: arrow towards goalie / low defense

Damn, this works like a charm when u play against tough, fysical teams like england. Never seen so many triangles from the defense, towards midfield and attack. The defense is pretty weak but you def. score a lot of goals so it won't be a problem. Total football at it's best! Sneijder gave 28 good passes during a 10 min game. Won against England, Latvia, Portugal, Czech Rep, Brazil and Argentina. 2night im gonna try it against my mates. ;)

Hurt/Kick him from behind or side - and he will be out of the game, after just one foul! Same for Oven!

There is a chance that you will not be given a red card

What does this < and <-- mean
?

It was the direction or the Defensive and Offensive arrows

I think we need a few more formations becuase my 4-4-2 leaves alot to be desired

I need a formation that dosnt leave the defence to open, i want a nice solid defensive formation that cuts out chances

i love defending :)

Try 4-4-2 C good for defense and offense, but you need very fast midfielders with high stamina for this formation

this thread looks dead and it's one of the richest in evo-web. It should be a sticky, so ppl don't forget about it and ppl discuss their formations as deep as eatontj once did.

hhaha i tot this thread was new... as i was reading the first page i tot they were tactics for we9.. den i saw we7.. and the date... anyway.. this thread should be sticky.. yep

PS: pls combine the real player names club names stadium.. blah blah blah , they are taking too much space

anyway let me make some contribution,

in we9, i like to play with 433 formation or 451 if i pull the wingers back

i like man utd's default formation with 1 dmf, 1 cmf and 1 omf, these 3 form a "triangle" in the midfield. Only the OMF have attacking arrows. The CMF acts as an anchor and starts the move. Wingers or LMF/RMF have attacking arrows with low def arrows as they will tire. Lone striker have to be of quality like RV nisteroy. Attacks normally happen at the sides and goals normally com from crosses... however if u have good midfielders aka rooney, u
might bring the ball up and create a few chances. When lone striker holds the ball near the box, if the OMF makes his run, lure the marking CB out and time the through ball to the OMF.

Actually... to make the best formation, u have to see what players u have and create a formation to suit them best and the formation u first made will need some adjustments as u play along... lets say u tink ur midfielders are tiring too easy, reduce his defensive arrows or remove the attacking arrows, if u tink that ur players are not moving forward, go to team setup and set to auto attack. Normally if i play against 3 strikers(1 cf 2 wg) i will set my SB to man markt the wingers.. if not the cpu will likely to set up thru balls to them

PS: those who have PES PC can use it to make formation and printscreen + imageshack for us to see

one classical problem I see happening always is the lack of a "second wave".

In PSX version of the game, in the old days, you're first wave of attack arrived at the box and the the MAs would arrive with a subtle delay, you could circle the ball to them in the middle and deliver dangerous outside kicks.. that is a bit rare in PS2 versions ever since.. MAs seem to rush to the box, with or without arrows, as for CMFs and DMFs stay back.. maybe there is a solution for this but I rarely find it.. that's mainly why I left to so much efective 433 of the PSX days.

offtopic: this is probably the most important thread of this forum, specially for ppl with the feeling they stalled and they need to developt their playing style to win more. Specially for the this is an essential thread.

yup... so far.. no serious discussion about tactics and formations

some tips:

when the cpu delivers a through pass which leaves ur last def dead for good... press and hold triangle for GK to rush out... he will get to the ball 90% of the time

Have a habit to know which players in ur team are left footer, it will help when shooting

Player playing central position should have good aerial ability to win headers(very important), helps alot when u pump long balls(Goal kicks)

When selecting penalty taker, always choose player with penalty special ability rather than looking at the Shooting Stats

When conceding close freekicks, it is better to have defenders run out

To defend a corner, make sure u have a player standing near the 'near post' to cut out weak corner kicks

When defending freekicks, DO NOT hold on to :triangle: button

Always look for strikers standing near ur defender b4 u take short goal kick

Keep tapping X when going for 50/50 balls, u will have a higher chance of getting to the ball first

tried your 451 (433) last night. The first impression was cool but I gradually played worse (maybe getting tired :)). Lot's of possession but less shots and changes than I usually get with other setups. It seems to create a huge gap in the midfield when you loose a ball, and you still get that effect of everyone rushing too fast to the box and no "second wave" behind the first load of attacking players, the usual problem I get in the last 3,4 versions of the game.

Of course the main reason is that I gave up crossing frequently as I rarely seem to be able to win the aerial challenges (even using R2) so I try to build up a bit more and this tactic is probably not for it... long gone are the days of ISS Pro Evo 1&2 when you could play on the wings in true style, delivering (unrealistic I assume) danger from the wings.

The beauty of this game is this... there is no "secret" tactic, it's subtle, adaptive, you have to find your own formula. It's funny how I can play very well on some systems and so bad on others, it's the beauty of this game.
