FIFA 15 News & Discussion Thread

Seems like that is a lot of people's complaint with PES this year and why so many of us are going back to FIFA - it's such a shame, I loved PES at first but it gets stale quickly.

Im bought Fifa and bought PES. Since PES's release I thought that PES would be the game for me. But after a while I got bored. So I went back to Fifa the other night and started a carear mode with Soton. Im really enjoying it. Lost to Liverpool 0-1 in first league game with a last minute goal and beat WBA 3-1 at home.

2 really good games but I have always felt that with Fifa the best games are when 2 good/average teams play not the top teams. I enjoyed the WBA game more. Not cos I won but it really represented how the game would go in real life. The game went 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 and then WBA pushed up and pinned me in forcing me to counter. One ball over the top caught them out and the centre half pulled my forward back. Red card. Again WBA did all the pressing and I counted and scored a third.

Add the atmosphere and real stadium and Fifa is a good game this year. I havent adjusted any sliders yet as at the moment im enjoying it how it is.

I love what can happen in a Fifa match. I´ve been playing around with sliders, but I think I´m starting the sindrome where I´m never happy with the tweaks, so I think I´m going to put them back on default and enjoy the game as it is. Matches might not be so realistic without proper sliders, but they sure are exciting, and that´s all I need. Too bad, I enjoyed the gameplay better before any patches. Now it seems faster?

Yep, ambience in Fifa is miles better, no discussion. What about celebrations? In PES, sometimes I´m loosing 2-0 and if I score a goal, player go runing like crazy... almost as if they scored the winner goal at the 90´. Its those small details... They are just too many to make me enjoy the game.

About buying PES, sometimes I regret the money I´ve spent, but I also know, if I didn´t buy it, I would still be thinking that I should do it. At leasst now I know wich one is the best for me.

Good way to see it. I guess I would feel the same way if I hadn´t bought it.

You are right about celebrations, but in FIFA they could be adjusted a little better either.
I see it quite often that when a team that is behind, scores a goal, the striker grabs the ball to playce it back to the kick off point.
That´s good, but yesterday I won 4:1 against Portugal and when they scored the goal in the last few mins they were celebrating as if they was leading :).

Also, for the first time I had it that the cpu was closing the ball at the corner flag in the last minutes, even I was leading...lol.

But that doesn´t bug me that much.

There's an unpredictability factor about 15 that you used to be able to associate with past PES titles.

Exactly! That´s what I felt in the demo for the very first time in a FIFA game, which made me buy the full release.

People who love and defend PES (I used to be one of those as well) mostly come up with the argument that PES´ gameplay is superior and FIFA is only about presentation and licenses.

That´s ok, but some don´t see that FIFA is making big steps in gameplay as well.

I hope they improve on player models and get rid of those partial too hectic animations.

100% agree.

About those celebrations ahah, they are wierd indeed. Good though that they don´t happen so often. Portugal celebrating a late goal in a 4-1 score? Strange, I thought Fifa didn´t have those kind of things, at least that I´ve noticed about. Perhaps they needed a goal to go to next round of whatever comepetition you were playing? Maybe not, just guessing here lol.

Man this game is so good online. It's as smooth as butter.

Got the hang of tactical defending again. I don't really use contain at all, I simply position myself with left stick and don't touch sprint.

One thing, what's with the slow down on celebrations now?

No it was the knockout round already.
Weird but doesn´t bug me much.
I don´t play a vanilla FIFA also, using the moddingway patch.
Maybe that´s why but I´d doubt it.

But like I said, not a big thing.

Yeah contain doesn't work very well. Tactical defending is an art form on this game, I find it very frustrating at first but once you learn to compose yourself more in front of attackers you'll find . More often than not they over run into you and do your job for you.

Give me 14 defending in 15 (and the lower speed online) and I'm happy.

Been playing against the AI on 15 for a while and I love it - and on manual, I even enjoy online. It's been a good year for football games I reckon.

One thing I'm noticing more and more though, is that in PES (offline or online - and it's SO satisfying online), if I can pick out where a pass is going, I can block the pass and get the ball moving forward on a counter-attack. In FIFA, especially online, I can't do it - I can predict where the opponent is going to pass the ball, but you have to be stood in a pixel perfect-correct place, or the ball will just fly past you (or behind you). I see 15's defending system as less of an "artform" and more of a nightmare, it seems overly difficult and unrealistic to me (which I can back up with some truly mental scorelines).

In 14 (which I still get the occasional game on, and it's one of my favourite football games ever - I don't have to put it on manual to get a good game out of it online and the scorelines are reasonable too), I can intercept those passes much more easily (and the same happens to me, which I'd prefer - you have to up your game and pick a less obvious target).

OK I am officially in love with this now (online).

Playing some delicious football, it's so snappy. Tactical defending IS rewarding when you get used to it in 15 (PUSHY is right!)

game is so smooth and snappy.

I tried PES 2015, 3 matches - button lag still ruining it, players feel TOO heavy and ponderous. All goals feel similair too - opponent just plays the lofted through ball to Ronaldo - GOAL! Have made my mind up and will sell it whilst it's worth something.

What I really love about FIFA 15 being able to use teams like West Ham and it pairs me against Stoke etc. On PES, I choose Newcastle and get paired against Real Madrid every time. Boring.

There has long been something wrong with the way interceptions are handled by FIFA. With FIFA 15, the super fast passing speed exacerbates it, but even in earlier games trying to block off passing lanes seemed hard.

Almost all interceptions in FIFA seem to happen when a player is running perpendicularly to the pass. It is quite rare that you'll make an intersection by actually standing in the way of a pass. I believe this has to do with the way FIFA 'locks' you into the path of the ball. In most scenarios, the AI takes over your players movement (both direction and speed) to ensure that you meet the ball at the right moment, and it does a good job of that. Yet, a lot of problems stem from those scenarios where you don't get locked in.

When you're defending, to actually get your player to 'lock in' to the ball, you have to press towards it. If you're running onto a loose ball it works okay, but if you're trying to block a passing lane you're typically moving laterally (and thus not really pointing at the ball at any point). You don't get locked in, and without any assistance it's hard to get in the way of the ball. More over, the player doesn't actively try to get the ball by sticking out a leg. The result is that the ball goes past, even if it would have been an easy interception in real life, even if the player was close enough to nab as it went past.

I feel there should be a ground rule that your players should always compete for the ball when they have a decent chance of getting it. If a pass is played that a player can intercept, the player should attempt to intercept it, and the only way to stop that happening is via supercancel. I know some are hugely wary of assistance, but this is one area where assistance is necessary. It's absolutely up to you to position your defender well, but if you do position him well and someone tries a pass too close, he should snap it up every time. Right now, it's all too common to see your opponent pass more or less directly at you, but get away with it because it's just an inch to the left of your players foot.

True. What killed 15 for me was the defense, it made the gameplay much worse than the previous game IMO. In Fifa 14 the balance between offense and defense was great and the games were much more enjoyable for my kind of play. The OP offense and the almost complete lack of defense awareness by the teamates AI in 15 made the game unplayable for me.

I remember in 14 there were lots of midfield battles and tight games decided by one or two created chances, this is completely gone on 15 where all the games are a scoring chance fest.

Unfortunately i doubt that in 16 they will go back to the same mentality of balanced games of 14, the game surely sells more when the kids can drible the entire opposite defense and score "Messi kind of goals" with Torres or Dzeko.

That's interesting. I actually find the game more balanced since the patch. I owned FIFA 15 on day one but traded it after a week because scorelines were ending 6-5, 8-7 etc everytime I played online.

Since buying it again, and since the patch, none of my matches have been high scoring and have been extremely enjoyable.

FIFA 14 was great except one major bugbear - CROSS, HEADER, GOAL - guaranteed 90% of the time. I prefer FIFA 15 (post December patch).

I also usually play with the smaller clubs and online, again, it's a joy - earlier I was Sunderland and I was matched up against Swansea. The game ended 1-1 and it was so much fun playing it.

If you want better interceptions you could try adjusting one of the defensive sliders in your team's tactics (agression?). And perhaps the speed of build up so that you can counter attack with more ease. What I do is edit the team sheet and select custom rather than default as the tactic...but then don't touch tactics on the d-pad once you're playing. So just set up what custom tactics you like and they're good to go for every game.

I like a free form setting with relatively high passing slider so that players will get into good positions for "risky" passes. And a formation that suits my style. Play with Juventus or Everton usually but change it for some variety...if I can get a match up!

Someone pointed out a while ago that, if you look at FIFA games over the last few years, a pattern seems to emerge.

FIFA 15 - too attacking, high scoring (great reviews for "fixing the attack")
FIFA 14 - more defensive (great reviews for "fixing the defence")
FIFA 13 - too attacking, high scoring (great reviews for "fixing the attack")
FIFA 12 - more defensive and stiff (great reviews for etc...)

I'm hopeful that, at the very least, they'll look at the average scorelines online and think "something's wrong here".

I have to admit though, I've enjoyed every manual game I've played despite my initial apprehension - I'd love this to be the year that they at LEAST ditch full-auto (leaving semi), or make it a special game mode for the kids who still want 5-5s and glorious wondergoals.

(That bit, I know, will never happen, under the guise of "accessibility to all".)

Every match I have played online since buying this again has had realistic score lines and really close matches. Just had an amazing game playing as Newcastle against some guy who had chose Southampton. Ended 2-1 to me.

I play Ultimate Team online - I don't like the whole card idea, it's very much "for kids", but it means I get transfers (of sorts) and can improve my team etc... My last few scores include 5-5 draws and 8-0 victories (and a few similar losses).

I don't have scorelines like that in other modes but they're not miles apart either. A few people have said the gameplay is different in Ultimate Team but I don't think it is - I just think more knobheads and children play it than the other game modes, so you get more constant pressure and more exploits, more "cheat" goals.

It's almost like a trap to keep them out of the other game modes...

But I want to build my team etc. :(

Roll on the days of an online manager mode.

That´s why I stopped playing UT.
I just keep trading consumable cards to bring my coins up again after my account got hacked, lol.

CM is the way to go for me but might try a few online games again.
Haven´t done that post patch.

Ultimate Team is the Devil. It's like roulette at the casino - it will let you win to begin with but after a while, you'll keep losing for no fault of your own.

Online Seasons is where it's at for me - using 4 star teams. I've found the team I love - Swansea City. Just had a really tactical, exciting game against someone using Southampton. I won 1-0 but it was like a chess match at times, he kept changing his system so I had to counter react to that.

It's a really beautiful game at times. No, it's nowhere near perfect and it does have it's faults - but I am addicted, it's got that "one more game" feeling which PES lacks for me these days.

Agree fully, but i think the patch did address a bit the offense/defense balance.. played a few games yesterday with a friend and there were quite a few 0x0 and 1x0 scorelines... before the patch that was barely impossible unless u missed like 15 clear chances...

I still think theres tooons of work to be done with those new GK AI... for me its something that they shouldnt revamp fully as imo it was pretty good in FIFA14, if they kept the natural development they had year in year out i'd be more than happy.

He was using a lag switch apparently! Don't know if he was kidding or not but the game was unplayable when I had the ball but as soon as he got it, it was fine!

I've had that happen to me a few times. Sportsmanship and "gamers" don't go hand in hand. Most people with any ounce of respect won't try and cheat their way through a game. I wish those people could be identified and banned from every console for life ;)

Its really sad isnt it? I mean, its just a game of footy on the playstation!
