Has anyone heard anything about the edit mode? I really want to be able to edit stats of players without much limitations.

At least they got rid of the really quite ridiculous need to unlock 3rd kits, balls and boots, that's something :)

Its a shame they keep closing the threads. I remember feeling so proud to have posted in last years when the pes thread reached 4000pages.........or something like that. 3999,5 of those pages were excellent fanboy fights. Ah those were the days.......

Does anybody think that to solve the "player likeness" in gameplay (not what they look like but how they play) they should use an amplifier calculation for the player stats. Meaning someone with a great shot would have a really really great shot, someone strong would be really rally strong, etc. I think thats were part of the "soul" of the game is, where it was/is in pes. Playing that years ago you would just know what a certain player could do and adjust accordingly. So far in the fifa's Ive never felt that need tbh. But the flip side of pes' amplifiying is you get players like Adriano who are far too strong, he's never been that good in real life but the stat amplifier gives these problems.

I think it could lie in this that gives fifa a somewhat hollow player likeness as they are using "proper" stats. You only have to look at the big games between the big four in england to see that players like ronaldo, lampard, torres, etc don't stand out (much) from the rest of the players. Its only against the lesser teams that these players show how much better they are (dont start going on how amazing these players are, its a generalisation to make the point). But in pes adriano could batter the best defensive team. In real life he cant, in fifa he cant.......but for that reason the players stand out more in pes and give it "soul".

So what do you guys think, should EA amplify player stats? So say the stats that are in the 90-ties become "110+" to show that difference.

FUCKING AMEN! it was so annoying getting to the kit selection screen and all of the kits for both teams would clash, except for the third, but you couldnt unlock it... see i think these are things we dont appreciate in newer versions, subtle but needed changes, bravo ea, way to fix your stupid initial implementation :)

I begged them to include Sheffield Wednesday's 3rd kit for next season, so fingers crossed ;)

If the stat editing is still strictly limited I'll be sure to raise it in my hands on review ;)

hell yeah, correct states for the players, are so important ofcourse that's what make the game alive and last alot longer plaing it.
if the players feel as they are in real life while controlling them, it makes the game true simulation, realistic, addictiv gameplay, and every match plays different etc...
thats what made pes the best football game for so many years.
i really hope that, ea will work on the players state in the future, and make sure the players feel different from each other, coz fixing that, means evry team should play as they do in rel life.
i know ea got the basics states right, for some stars, like the players speed, strenght, skillz, and headers, but that's not enough, they need to go more in details, like to put star states (like in pes) for example: say D.Becham have fk star, ck star, passing and crossing star, playmaker star, if u get what am on about, so that the great players will stand out and show of what they are good at.

bad news

I bought the play3 mag today and they have a fifa and pes preview. besides the fact that they say pes will be the football king once more (rofl!!!) they have an interview with rutter. in this interview he mentions that they have a slider for the game speed BUT they are still discussing if they will keep it for the final game or take it out again

I think most Fifa fans will be happy if the game plays at the speed of Fifa 08 or maybe a bit quicker like Euro 08. But it does seem strange that they would consider removing the speed slider. Although I would never play on the fast setting at least it would satisfy those who complained 08 was too slow. Give the gamer more choice, that's what I say.

Yeah i agree i would also like to see kit combinations. For instance man united wear red top, white shorts and black socks but on other occasions they wear red shirts, white shorts and white socks and so on .....

i agree with both quotes. sorry to reference International Superstar Soccer Deluxe on the Snes again but... well.. Konami NAILED the stars right there. I don't even know how they did it. When you were through on GOAL with KOPPERS (KLUIVERT) you knew about it!

in pro evo 5 i remember they were coming very close to addressing this too. freddie ljungberg had a more marauding run-style than say, Beckham. Fifa should have atleast 10 different run styles to choose from. from the arjen robben run style (also used by van persie) to the rooney/tevez run of intent. it would add so much more to the game.

Yeah, they should definitely make players feel different, that was a problem in Fifa 08 where controlling different players felt very similar, they should make stats stand out more, allow for players to have special skills(the stars from PES), and they should also add distinct dribbling styles, FK stances, PK stances, you know all the things that makes players feel distinct from each other.
PES does everything that I said above, so it's something that I'd like in Fifa.

I would also like a morale system(not sure if it's the right name), you know in PES how it shows the green arrow for players who are playing normal, yellow and red when the player is "hot", and the blue and white arrows when the player is on a cold streak. I think that having a morale system would add more variety to the game, it should be optional for players who don't want it. You guys agree?

Yeah, I hated Fifa 08's edit mode because it wouldn't let us to edit our players freely. Once again that's something that PES does better than Fifa. EA please get rid of the points requirements for editing.

Another thing that I'd like would be a propper training mode(like PES).

Fifa 09 is gonna rock, so far it seems like the best football game this year. But those are just some suggestions of things that PES does better so Fifa should implement as well.

I agree on most points there. PES has many of the elements needed in FIFA09 to make it one of the best footy games ever (if the improvements Mr. Rutter has told waxed lyrical about have truly been added).

Although i saw a set of screens with ronaldo doing his "i'm the fucking daddy" free kick stance... but it was a penalty screen (which should have had his "i'm about to miss stance" :P). It looked great, inhale and all. we need more of this EA!! Drogba for instance should have his own set of elaborate dives :lol: Put your motion capture tools to good use EA!

The moral arrows were present in some form in fifa07 i think but when you lost the ball a few times your teams passing accuracy and overall effectiveness would drop. They removed it for some reason. I thought it was a decent idea but it should have applied to individuals instead of the team as a whole.

Edit mode in fifa is weak imo. If they could only copy Tiger Woods create-a-player. Tiger Woods 08 allowed you to scan in your own face you don't even have to do a side on so you can use magazine pics) and it is EERILY accurate. I made a beckham golfer. I'll post a pic of my golfer tomorrow. It's eerie.

Having as many licenses as they do i can understand not having the whole kit editor malarkey though.

Yeah, but since Fifa has all licenses so there's not much need for a good kit editor like in PES, all I want to do is to be able to edit the damn stats without worrying about freaking points. I love editing stats for smaller teams.

I bet that the only different FK stance is C. Ronaldo's "i'm the fucking daddy", once again let us go to the edit mode and change dribbling styles, FK and PK stances for individual players.

Oh and I really hope that Fifa 09 allows us to hit some rockets from the outside depending on the speed/position of the ball and player. And please no more superhuman goalkeeper saves, the superhuman keepers were the most annoying thing in Fifa 08 for me.

But they balance out the game

imagine in a match, if the saves you thought were super saves went in.......every game would finish like 4-5 or 8-0

I am fine with super saves as long as they arent ridiculous and ATM they are not, i can easily score if i create a opening
