Winning Eleven / Pro Evolution Soccer on PS3 - Seabass Interview :

Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka : 'The online aspect will change drastically. From reading forums we realise that the game lags a lot, but this will be much, much better on PlayStation 3. Also, offline you'll have fantastic player movements that you'll probably only notice through replays. Of course, PlayStation 3 will give us more power to enrich the actual representation of football, such as artificial intelligence, so you'll have much smarter defenders. We'll be able to put much more emphasis on the offside battle between defenders and attackers because PlayStation 3 gives us more power.'

Sounds more like marketing PS3 blabla hype to me. Of course the PS3 will have much more power than a lousy PS2, you don't need to be a doctor in rocket science to know that, Mr. Seabass. My point is: You should make a goddamn brand new game and not only talk about AI and player movement. The power of the PS3 should be used to change everything. "From reading forums" they should realise that this series really, really needs a complete facelifting.

Thanks PS2, you've been a good friend to all of us, but now we really need to reach new grounds in terms of much more than just online lags...

That's a very good point and one I totally agree with. it's simple give us the fmv soccer we see in the beginning of winning eleven BOTH on 360 AND the PS3, make your game accessible this time around through un-regioning it. For the love of God improve the grass!

I fear PES on PS3 will be have at it's heart, the same old scripted game engine they been rehashing for the past decade.

Enhanced graphics, animations, tussles? Big deal! How about 360 full analogue control of eveything from passing to player movement? How about real gameplay, not a contrived facade? When he starts talking about those things, then it might start to rekindle some excitement in this dying game.

In other words, what seabass was saying is: No massive graphical improvement.

I can't believe a game producer talking about a next-gen title without mentioning generous graphical improvements.

Disappointing.

I don't want to spoil the big rant but maybe Seabass has an ace up his sleeve but just don't like to talk about it in order to work secretly and relaxed on the next generation PES/WE...

I'm getting a litle bit tired about this big rant...if you don't like the game, don't buy it...

Most people seem to forget that konami is a commercial enterprise...

Am i a "fanboy"...of course...we all are...otherwise we wouldn't spend hours on this forum...

I am a fanboy of nobody !

I am a fan of Soccer and i buy Konami s product only because they created the best football sim around, So they better improve it on PS3 and think seriously about what WE fans want and cry about on these forums, Its their right !

Maybe they have lost their souls in all this.

I mean think about it. When pes first started off, it was all about the football, and the team put their souls into producing the antithesis of what fifa was, all commercialism and no gameplay.

But now that konami have become so successful with this title - they are losing their way a bit and the product isnt getting the attention it needs, its all about coming up with new versions to make more money.

I'll be extremely annoyed if they dont strip the whole game down and build from almost scrath for ps3.

Yes.

I mean saying 'there won't be a slowdown with the PS3' is BY FAR the most idiotic statement a game producer could come up with.

so the money we spent on ps2 versions are all non worked to the point games ?

we could've save our money for ps3 instead of buying his stupid bugged games, since all those bugs will be gone on ps3

PS3's going to be expensive ....

What does that have to do with WE/PES? :-k

New technology will always be expensive, the only way MS kept costs relatively "low" was because they were using current widely available technology. Sony are going the Blue-Ray route which will be more costly but should show its benefits 2-3 years down the line. It's a good move really with the pace technology is moving these days.

I remember reading an article in a game mag around the time of Iss 98 and it talked about how the ppl including seabass at konami didnt really know much about football but had studied it and had made the game focused on how the game is played in real life etc.

Now they have gone the way of sony and Gran turismo with its graphics and cars but no substance.

Except instead of cars its players looks and balls like adidas or nike instead of focusing on the way football is on and off the field.

Next game should be called Winning Eleven and its back to basics.

Things I like to change in PS3 version:

- master league
- player transfer
- gameplay
- graphics
- international challenge (my dream would be: you pick a country at the start of master league and play international games in between league games aka championship manager, so you get best of both worlds)

basically, STOP TWEAKING THE DYING GAME ENGINE. Burn it all down and do it all over again...

I love the gameplay and graphics its just the masterleague and little niggling inconsistances some of which i do hear may have been fixed in Winning Eleven 10.

"Chelsea and AC Milan fully licensed"
Its like ppl who have a plain Ford Escort (Dodge Neon America) and then spend hundreds on alloys.

i just don't get it? why talk about the obvious problems and not say a thing about how good it should b on the next gen consoles?
i'm lucky enough 2 own a 360 and i must say(although i don't own)i plyd the new fifa, graphically, movements, etc, etc.were awsome!(still h8 the game tho!)this is what konami should now aspire to!! otherwise those moneygrabbers at ea will soon catch them up in the gameplat department and then they'll b fckd! coz' they still can't get the full licenses!!

I personally think that Konami would only tweak a few things from the PS2 version to PS3....they are not going to waste time to write a brand new engine....it could make the Winning Eleven brand worse if they write a new engine and people hate it. When you think on the business sides of things, you wouldn't change the engine...becuz you would still sell a million of copies around the world with just a few tweaks for the new version.

If you want them to start over and write brand new gameplay/AI for PS3 versions, then stop buying WE series from now on. heh

Well, to be fair, there is a lot of positive news coming out...
-fantastic player movements, (animations, physics)
-improved AI...
I think this is just the tip of the iceberg......
it's way too early for them to give too much information...

It does not make sense to re-write the game engine....you just have
to improve the stuff that need improving....
graphics, AI, licenses, more teams, more stadia, tons more animations,
tons more randomness in games, weather, managers on the touchline,
3d crowds, more chants, national anthems, the list goes on....

Think of it, if they sit back and don't improve, then EA will overtake
them....
I can't see it happening, but Konami will give us a superb game
on the PS3....it may not happen altogether in the first version,
but it will be a gradual progression once they get a hang of the
power of the PS3....and see the possibilities

i just prey for two new things!!!!
better pitches(much, much better) and please new animations, more life like, including the end of the fast turns!!!! this is so bad in the game!!! always when a new version of the game is to come out, i prey for that, but it never desapear!!! please end the crappy fast turns and create new and better movements more life like not that ultra fast animations complete unrealistic!! we10 come back to we8, with players move more fast than a F1 cars!!! damn!!!
sorry for the bad english!!!

The 1st pro evo for ps3 will definately be a crap game, at least thats what i think.

I remember enjoying the game so much on the ps1. Then i bought my ps2 and a copy of pro evolution soccer. What a crappy crappy game that was.

Gameplay was terrible...all the focus was on the graphics part.
PES 2 was a little better and pes3 was good.

So, im expecting the same for the ps3. Too much emphasis on graphics and fancy things. Let's hope they learn fm past mistakes.

Man to be fuckin honest with you all, I dont really care about licences, masterleague, hell, i don't care about anything as KONAMI fixes the goddamn slowdown / stuttering issues that have been plaguing the series during its regime on PS2. Ever since the stutter bug in WE7 i have not been able to enjoy WE.

I just bought ISS Pro Evo and ISS Pro Evo 2 and fuck me, I'm switch back to last gen. PSX and N64 is where its at for me. As far as gameplay those games were superior in every aspect. I like the gameplay in WE10 but the game itself is too messed up.

There is no fuckin slowdown issues on PSX. How can that be!!!??? The goalies in ISS 2 are fuckin brilliant. They deflect the ball just as much in WE10 but they catch everything they are suppoused to catch.

Man, KONAMI better come thru big time with the PS3 version or heads will roll...

Or maybe he's talking fish eggs... I mean come on, it's not like a dual core PC with SLI isn't beyond what next gen consoles are capable of but do they get any improvement?

Wow, that's new. And of course, those of us who think the game should improve aren't tired of hearing that one either.

And Konami seems to forget, it's producing a consumer driven product. But hey, when people lie flat on their back like flapping fish, why should they do better for us?

There's a difference between "blind, take what they're given fanboy" and "objective, would like to see the company strive for something bigger and better fan.".

We use the forums to "discuss improvements" that the game would benefit from. To "talk about" the pointless things that Konami seem intent on wasting valuable resources on. We love football and we love playing the game, nothing to do with fanboyism.
