The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim [All Platforms]

Question though: I took Lydia as my companion then did a quest for a guy who assigned Farkos to be my companion. This meant Lydia was fired until the quest was completed). So I completed it and returned to Whiterun but now I'm wondering if Lydia will still have all the stuff I made her carry when I re-assign her?

Bloody hope so, as she had loads of my expensive weapons and armour.

She does yes, same happened to me.

Can you imagine how many attempts it required to get thst shot right?

Has anyone seen a decapitation yet? I seen a perk where you have higher percentage of doing one but I have yet to see it happen.

Scutch if you are on your way to the Greybeards Shroud Hearth Barrow is well worth a visit, you may pass it on your way.

There are folk claiming that the Greybeards quests should be done after a lot of the miscellaneous quests you get in Whiterun, otherwise you won't be able to do them again.

Is this true?

I have no idea about that. I am just starting my first Greybeard quest, I might go and do alot of the side quests first just incase. I am only on level 6 and if you got to 12 by doing them it is probably worth my time.

Yeah, just random questing, TBH.

I did one to clear bandits in Skyrim for a chap in Whiterun and on my way there I noticed 2 mammoths and a giant by an oasis. I'd been warned not to fuck about with those, so I just let them get on with it. If I was a bit better equipped I'd of probably tried my luck... alas.

I kicked off on one of the Giant's and ran around like a fantasy version of Benny Hill for a while.

The one time one of them actually hit me, my corpse bounced about 50 feet into the air.

The game is great, exactly my cup of tea. Am just about level 20 now, and have done the mage path - focusing on Conjuration cause I've never done it before.

I've recruited Lydia and that War Dog - so I just cast an Atronauch spell and then hide in the shadows and watch them fight. It's all fun and games until an enemy spots me, cause I have no armor skills or health :)

I was fighting some Vampires and was low on health so I used a scroll for a Storm Atronauch. I had no idea what this scroll would do and did not notice any effects. I managed to kill the vampires and then looked around and seen this big blue/stone looking thing and ran away scared to death due to low health and never seeing anything like it before. I was running for what seemed like ages before I realised that it was no threat and was the result of the scroll :LMAO:.

Haha, that's class - can imagine the poor thing was following you around like 'Come back master! Come back!'

I am really surprised how bad the combat can be. I have shot an arrow into someones head and they recieve no damage, I go and slay them with my sword and see an arrow stuck in the head of the body. Also what happens quite alot is I will use the unrelenting force shout and bring someone to their knees then bring my great sword down on their head in a power attack and again see no damage register. Something else that is starting to become quite frequent is pressing the attack button and nothing happening, seems to only happen with the sword. I got into a situation where I had 3 hired thugs around me and I could not use my weapon at all, I had to switch to another weapon to be able to fight. Pretty sloppy for AAA title.

The arrow thing could be related to the max attack distance for arrows which means even if you can see the enemy, even if you can hit them with your arrows, it does no harm until they're within a specific distance, sucks obviously if like me you primarily play as an archer, there is a fix though for PC, put this in your skyrim.ini

fVisibleNavmeshMoveDist=12288.0000

That quadruples the possible hit distance for both arrows and magic, obviously your aim would have to be perfect to get hits at that distance.

As for your sword problem I can't say I've had similar, the melee combat works pretty well and no complaints here.

Yeah my main gripe is the combat, is pretty bad on most fronts, along with majority of the animations.

Also just general travels, I get stuck on something when it clearly looks passable, sometimes I can move a inch left or right then I can continue.

Also the menu system I do hate, unless there's an easier way, I want to access the map quick, but I have to press B then down or whatever, wish, back or something could be assigned or something, I know that's the wait function, but don't use that much.

I was about 15 foot away mate.

You really have no problems with the swords? Its very common for me, maybe its a PS3 thing.

Encountered a bug when doing a quest at Markath. It seems to also be around on 360's. Basically anytime you get near a Silver-Blood or guard, they attack you without reason, so you can't complete any quests. Annoying!!!!!!

I'm level 25 now and have still done relatively fuck all in a literal sense. 32 hours in. It's very addictive.

I still need to visit the greybeards, so that's where I am main quest wise. Been doing miscellaneous and side quests. Killed 5 dragons too.

Some of the enemies you just need to step back and avoid, TBH. Killing 3 Spiggans (I think that's their name) in the cave to help the chap out wasn't too much of a problem, but meeting the fuckers outside is a different ball game. Run is the best tactic at the moment.

Currently on a quest with a dog as my sidekick. Has anyone done the House of Horrors quest? Apparently there's a hell of a weapon reward at the end which is best taken early on.

Been messing around too Scutch, but encountered a fucking shithead of a boss. I found some random grave and when I reached the final boss, he has this spell that blows your weapon out of your hands. After killing him, you're supposed to be able to pick your weapon up on the ground, but because I tried changing weapons while he casted the spell, my first weapon (a 900-value staff) disappeared and now I've lost it. ARGH.

Nightmare. There are other staff's available as you progress. I've got two now.

Agree though, some of the enemies are very difficult to beat, especially when you're low level.

Some handy tips :

If you give a follower a torch, they'll equip it in dungeons or at night, lighting the way for you.
It's also worth noting that, due to a bug, items picked up by followers don't weigh anything, meaning they can carry an unlimited amount of stuff. To get them to pick something up, switch to command mode and point at it.

When you start the game, you won't be able to fast travel to any of the major holds - Markarth, Windhelm and so on. If you're in a rush and don't fancy riding there yourself, talk to the horse and carriage owner in the stables outside Whiterun (or any city for that matter) and he'll take you to whichever capital you choose for a small fee.

Just because you don't want to read Skyrim's massive selection of books doesn't mean you should ignore them. Certain books give you a skill boost related to their contents - a book about armour crafting, for example, might boost your heavy armour stats. You don't have to painstakingly read every book you see, though - scan over them and look at their values. If they're over 100, chances are they'll give you a boost. Any less and they're just plain ol' books.

Travel to Markarth and head up the street to your right until you see a guard in an argument with someone. Agree to help him investigate the nearby abandoned house, and you'll begin the 'House of Horrors' quest. Complete it and you'll receive a powerful enchanted mace that drains enemies' stamina and magicka. The earlier you get this the better, as it's incredibly powerful.

Each magic type in the destruction school has a different effect. Fire is pure, raw damage, and more powerful flame spells will set other enemies in their blast radius ablaze.
Shock magic deals similar damage, but will also drain an enemy's magicka. Good for when you're fighting against mages and the like. Finally, frost damage drains stamina and will slow an enemy down.

You can actually speed up the laborious mining animation by dual-wielding pickaxes and 'attacking' the ore vein. You can find a unique pickaxe at the very top of the Throat of the World called the 'Notched Pickaxe'. This increases your smithing skills and does shock damage to enemies.

Whenever you find an enchanted weapon - one with a status effect, like 'Orcish Sword of Flame' or 'Dwarven Sword of Leeching', don't sell it if you don't plan to use it. Instead, find an arcane enchanter table and disenchant the object. This will let you learn its effects and apply it to standard weapons (providing you have a filled soul gem). The benefit here is that your enchanting will level up rapidly and you can sell the magic items for a pretty penny.

The tip in bold helped me greatly, as I was unwittingly using the wrong magic on the mage class.

Did you go into that cave with two other people that you found outside?

Guys if you haven't already, goto the pub in whiterun and get into a drinking contest with Sam at the bar, well worth it.

Has anyone worked out a way to avoid 'friendly fire'? I have Lydia and was planning on specialising in chain lightning - but she gets hit everytime I shock an enemy near her. And if I kill her, she doesn't wake up.

Pretty frigging annoying.

Yeah Lydia walking into my force lightening, and other general magic combat things piss me off a bit.

Love the game but these things wind me up a bit.

I would have actually liked a VATS (forgot what it was) thing or a way to queue up spells in combat, so you can cut down on all the switching if you have loads of spells.

"Right cast armour on me, courage on her, summon that thingy and then fury on that lot there". Once that's done you can choose to do the rest in real time or maybe let an action bar refill again.

^

Have all that have cast times and allow you or enemies to interrupt it at any time so it's not too automated.

Even with those two quick slots you get i find it a bit stop start when i'm trying to be Gandalf.

Archery is brilliant if you put enough effort into it.

With a high level of archert and sneak along with the perks associated with those skills, if you stay hidden you can one shot kill many enemies with sneak attacks with the bow.

I'm on Sneak 90 and Archery 60 now and my main combat weapon is either the Enchanted Dwarven of Forsworn bow.

I've also got a Dwarven shield and an Enchanted Skyforge sword (the one you get early on, but with magic enchantment) for close combat battles.

For magic, I use Fire and Frost mainly against the dragons. Being a Nord it's always a bonus coming up against a Frost Dragon, as Nord's are 50% immune to Frost. So I can just stand in the same place as it attacks and either fire my arrows at it or my fire spell. Think I've killed about 10 dragons now.

I've also got 4 shouts.

Has anyone used any of the scrolls yet? How do they work, as some of them seem quite handy?

I have used the fire scroll, it works just like magic from what I remember. Beware that you have to sheath your current weapon and the wield the scroll, it does not happen instantly. The first time I used it was because I was low on health and surrounded by Drugar and by time I had equiped it I was dead.
