"OH ZAMALEK, MY DEAR ZAMALEK!!" (FIFA 16)
We Reach the Final, Looking to Give El Fares El Abyad the 3-Stars Cup!!

After returning home to Cairo to face Sweden's AIK and beating them 2-1 in the global score in the 3-Stars Cup Quarters, we would be heading to Asian lands, to face the last representative of the AFC, Shanghai Port, 3 times runners up of the Chinese League, and perennial AFC Champions League participants! The Chinese side, having won their group in surprising fashion, have gone on a terrific run, beating Switzerland's FC Luzern and Portugal's Santa Clara (dispatching two European teams) on their way to the semifinals! On Zamalek's side, we had won against Bolivia's The Strongest and Sweden's AIK to set up this matchup!) Africa and Asia were about to meet, as the other side of the draw featured European and South American teams! Out of these four representatives from different continents, only two of them would emerge victorious and move on the the 3-Stars Cup final!

Semifinal 1st Leg of 2 - Shanghai Port vs Zamalek, Shanghai, China.

For the first leg of the Semifinal, Zamalek had to travel all the way to China, to Saic Motor Pudong Arena, capacity 37,000, located in Eastern Shanghai, close to the sea! After shaking off the jet lag and training for a few days, the Egyptian side was pumped and ready to go for the first leg! Wearing their black alternate Jerseys, we kicked off proceedings on a warm Chinese night. Shanghai was playing a very tight 4-4-2, with the four midfielders quite bunched up together in a very compact diamond, while we played our traditional 4-2-3-1, with Shammas as classic #10 and Mugosa as the striker up front, flanked by Bencharki and Zizo!

1696212632147.png1696212672692.png1696212911163.png
4-4-2 vs 4-2-3-1! We gotta watch out for Oscar!
An important note: Shanghai was fielding a very international squad in their starting 11, with 1 Croatian, 1 Australian, and 3 Brazilian players as starters! An important note: Their attacking Brazilian midfielder, #8 Oscar, was singled as the player to watch by the commentators before the match started, as he had scored 3 goals in the last 3 matches! We had to be quite aware of him. And as the whistle blew, it was clear from the outset that we were facing a very organized, compact team, with pressure and looking to create opportunities with a high line. The first minutes were a chess match, albeit one where Shanghai was pressing the advantage and were playing mostly in Zamalek's half, we were having a bit of trouble breaking through.. In min 14, Li Shenlong headed that ball to Oscar in space, who was left almost all alone against our keeper, and booted it hard and wide! This was a real chance for Shanghai! The minutes wore on, and we were unable to create space for our offense, it seemed that every one of our plays was being stifled by their defense, with nice counterattacks and then crosses by Paulinho and Oscar. Shanghai was outplaying us. In minute 36, the Australian Mooy played a very nice through ball to Oscar on the inverted wing, who used very deft dribbling to position himself forr the cross to Lopes, the Lopes header just saved by our keeper Awaad!! And only 4 minutes later, an almost deadly counter by Shanghai (orchestrated by Paulinho and Oscar) left Murahmat in an excellent position to score, he shoots!! Saved once again by Awaad! Our goalkeeper was saving us!! But would it last? In minute 44, a poor throw by Zamalek led to Li Shenlong dispossessing El Wensh near the box, the crossing it to Lopes with the rocket volley all alone.. saved by Awaad, hits the post, the rebound, Lopes again.. Oh no!! It's 1-0 Shanghai, and they had the lead!!!! As the halftime whistle blew, we had no chances to score and they were completely dominating us!

The second half was pretty much more of the same! Even though we did have some chances, especially with a Bencharki Free Kick and a few through balls and crosses, we couldn't threaten Shanghai's goalkeeper at all (in fact, Lopes almost scored again in the second half with a rocket that hit the top post and ricocheted off Awaad, but in the end it was a very poor effort by our offense! They outshot us, outplayed us, and didn't leave anything to chance as their defense was top notch and completely shut down our attackers, as we were only able to get off a few shots! As the final whistle blew, the final score was Shanghai 1-0 Zamalek, with their 4 Brazilians shining high (at times it felt more like I was playing against a Brazilian side than a Chinese one)! The good news was, we were only down one goal, but we definitely had to do better, our offense had to recover their spark if we would have a chance. Their defense was an impenetrable wall in the first leg!!

Semifinals 2nd Leg of 2 - Zamalek vs Shanghai, Cairo, Egypt.

Going back to Cairo International Stadium, Manager Millossobek was a bit concerned: Our offense had been completely shut down by the Shanghai defenders, and we had looked lost out there on Chinese soil. Would a trip back to our grounds give us the required confidence to revert the result? However, Zamalek decided not to re-tool with the starting lineup, as we would be starting our same eleven from the first leg (we have pretty much retained the same starting eleven throughout the Cup!) Would the result be different this time? How would our players respond to yet another 1-0 deficit (we had also lost the first leg 1-0 against The Strongest in the Round of 16!)! Would we find the guts and the skill to move on to the final, or were our Cup Aspirations vanishing into thin air?

From the get-go, however, it was clear that this would be a different encounter! Shanghai decided to defend their lead, and drew their lines back, defending and waiting for Zamalek much more, and this was immediately felt! We were playing with more space. While in the first match, Shanghai was playing a high press, coming to tackle aggressively and pretty much asphixiated our offense, here their strategy seemed to completely change, as they sat back and were looking to counter! Important to note, they had a pretty good chance in min 7, as a Paulinho cross found Majstorovic for a good header which sailed just wide, this would've been catastrophic for us.) However, after this scare, we slowly found our footing once again. As a creative team, and with our midfield tandem of Shabbaz, Abdel Aziz and Hamed, we were much more comfortable playing in this style and it was paying off dividends! After another chance by Li Shandong which was safely kept by Awaad, we started finding more spaces! In min 22, our first real chance of the semifinal as Hammas feeds Mugosa in the box, with the chip shooot beating their keeper and OHH IT HIT THE POST!! That would've been great as a series equalizer, but perhaps more importantly, we were finding our rhythm! In minute 27, Shammas intercepted an errant pass by He Guan near the center line! This could be a chance, he through passes to Mugosa who could go all the way! OH! He is harshly tackled by Majstorovic, the last line of defense between the Zamalek attack and the keeper and.. could it be! Yes!! It's a direct red card for Majstorovic!! Mugosa was all alone and if he had not been fouled, he would've surely scored! A correct and potentially game-changing red card and now Shanghai is playing with 10 men!!

1696215103244.png1696215489576.png
A Red Card and We Press The Advantage!

We pressed our advantage almost immediately, as in min 28, Mugosa had a chance safely kept by Yan Junling. But our crowd was pumped, not only did we have a one-man advantage, we were also playing much better, and the Cairo faithful were feeling the shift in momentum as well, chants and speakerphones at full volume! In minute 40, as we kept looking for spaces and chances, it's Mathlouthi retaining the ball skillfully to Zizo down the wing! Zizo flies down the right flank, crosses it to Bencharki who skillfully heads the ball down on a silver platter to Mugosaaaaa and.... IT'S STEFAN MUGOSA WITH THE SCORE!!!!! IT'S 1-0 ZAMAEK!!!!! (1-1 global). Our efforts and higher inspiration for this match (as well as the advantage of being a man up) finally pays off as we have scored our first goal of the series and have equalized the the semifinal!! We were happy to go the halftime break with a goal.. but WAIT!! ONLY THREE MINUTES LATER, as we are pressing up top, Fu Huan passes the ball back to He Guan in the box, He Guan bobbles the pass, MUGOSA RECOVERS, WHO IMMEDIATELY SHOOTS WITH HIS LEFT FOOT, YAN JUNLING SAVES, BUT OH THE REBOUUUND.... IT'S MUGOSA AGAIN WITH THE GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OUR MONTENEGRIN STAR HAS SCORED TWO GOALS IN THREE MINUTES, AND SUDDENLY, JUST LIKE THAT, IT'S 2-0 ZAMALEK!!!!!!!

1696219424350.png1696215955176.png
IT'S STEFAN!! STEFAN MUGOSA!!

What a display by our Montenegrin star!! We have scored 2 goals in 3 minutes and as the halftime whistle blows, we are up 2-0 (2-1 global) and are ahead in the series!! As the second half started, it was clear that Shanghai, being as they were a man down, were desperate, looking to move their line forward and knowing that they had to score at least two goals to have a chance to go ahead, but that did nothing but give us more spaces to score! Only a few minutes after the second half dawned, Mugosa (he's everywhere!!) dispossessed Yu Hai in the box, he's all alone against Yan Junling and.... IT'S THE HAT-TRICK HERO!! It's 3-0 ZAMALEK AS HIS GOAL HITS THE TOP POST AND IN!!!!!! (3-1 Global)! Now with a 3-Goal lead, things were looking very difficult for the Chinese side, and, barring a miracle, we would prevail!! The rest of the half would feature more good chances, a solo run by Shammas in min 64 as his goal just went over the bar, Shanghai's Mooy with an attempt from deep in min 72, Shikabala almost finding Bencharki for a header (min 88), Paulinho sailing one over the goalkeeper, (min 90), and as the final whistle blew!! It's ZAMALEK ON TO THE THREE STARS CUP FINAL!!!!!! Final Score 3-0 (3-1 global), as Stefan Mugosa had turned in a legendary performance, undoubtedly the best of his career so far, scoring a hat-trick and winning the second leg, moving on to the Cup Final!! Taking the match-ball home, Mugosa waved to the Egyptian faithful, as the crowd couldn't stop chanting his name "MUGOSAA MUGOSAA"!!!!!!! :RSCARF:

1696219320458.png
The Match Ball for The Hat-Trick Hero!

As the curtain fell on the 3-Stars Cup Semifinals, and after we had vanquished Shanghai Port in a great performance in front of our fans, it became clear who we would be facing in the FINAL!! Banfield of Argentina, who had won their tie 2-1 against Spain's Málaga, would be our rival, in an Africa-South America encounter!! Surprisingly, no European team reached the final this time, and so... We are off to a ONE MATCH FINAL, to be played in Brazil's Maracaná Stadium (Important note: Fluminense, who would've been the locals in the final and were the Cup favorites, were eliiminated in the group stage.. Yes, this is the nature of the 3-Stars Cup!!)

Stefan Mugosa: "Yes, absolutely. It was great to score the hat-trick and get the match ball. This is what footballers play for and imagine beyond their widest imaginations as children, to get a chance to play such an important match in front of our fans, and have a great performance under these momentous circumstances!! But more importantly, I'm even happier that I was able to contribute to us moving on the 3-Stars Cup final, and that we were able to get back on the right track after struggling in China! Now as a team, we will get a good rest, and prepare ourselves for the final, where we will be facing a worthy, difficult opponent in their continent.. But we have faith. We believe. No matter where we play, in what part of the globe or in any stadium, we bring our football with us! In our hearts. Regardless of our surroundings, if we play with love, we bring all of Zamalek and Cairo with us, we are home, we are always home!!"

Manager Millossobek: "A final always brings trying circumstances. One match that will decide everything. We will be playing in South America against an Argentinean side, in the mighty Maracaná. We all understand the weight and gravity of history, of mystical circumstances to be playing in such a legendary stadium and venue. But like Stefan said, we will carry our football with us, and I know that, as I speak, tens of thousands of Egyptian Zamalek fans have already bought their tickets to Maracaná to see our team have a chance to lift the title! Yet, as ever, we remain humble and grounded. We have played every match in this Cup as if it were a final, even the group stage games, and now that we are in the real final, we will give it our all. Club Atlético Banfield, you are a worthy and gallant opponent, and my players and I look forward to facing you in the final. Yet in the end, there can only be one Champion, and when it's all said and done, and no matter what happens, we will give it our all. We will let our hearts guide our feet, and our starry eyes guide our hopes!! ZAMALEK!! OH MY DEAR AND BEAUTIFUL ZAMALEK.. THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!!!!!!!!"

WE ARE ON TO THE FINAL!!!!!!! Let's bring this home, guys!!

3-STARS CUP GLORY: FROM EGYPT TO THE WORLD!!!! (FIFA 16)
ZAMALEK FC ARE CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE 3-STARS CUP!!!!

Zamalek FC: A Football Club. A representative of approximately 10 million fans, 10 million Egyptians, from Cairo, all over the country, and accross the globe. Zamalek FC: A way of being, a feeling, an identity, and now an International Club Champion! You see friends, the 3-Stars Cup is not just another International Club competition. It's not about the fame, it's not about the fortune. It's not about the dollars or the social media or the multi-million television contracts. It's about something else. It's about so-called "medium clubs" with huge hearts, with millions of fans. It's about loving football. It's about international understanding and brotherhood. It's about the World's Game, from every corner of the globe, the Most Beautiful Game. What the 3-Stars Cup means to me, to Zamalek, to the World.... I'm about to tell you.... Come with me, friends, as I show you......

The 3-Stars Cup Final - Zamalek (EGY) vs Banfield (ARG), Maracaná, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The historic night is finally here! The culmination of months of expectation, only 2 teams remain, as the Glory of the 3-Stars Cup awaits one of them! From all corners of the globe, 32 hopeful teams began the Cup with wide-eyed, starry eyes, full of hope. And out of 16 European, 8 South American, 7 Asian, and 1 African teams, only Zamalek from Egypt and Banfield from Argentina are left standing! Two distinct cultures, two football loving fanbases! The venue, decided beforehand, would be the mythical Maracaná Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and even though the local participant, Fluminense, were eliminated in group stage, the stadium was absolutely rockin', and what was perhaps even more amazing, the supporters were pretty much split right down the middle, with half of them supporting Banfield, the Argentinean side, and half of them making the trip around the world to support Zamalek!! Both crowds were absolutely pumped, each with their own distinctive style, the atmosphere was over the top, and everything was set to start!! English referee Anthony Backhouse sets his watch, and the whistle blows!!

1696576636356.png

The game starts quite offensively, as in the very first possession, both Banfield and Zamalek have chances! (A slightly overshot cross from the Argentineans and Bencharki's shot being blocked by the Banfield defender!) At the beginning, it is clear that each side is trying to impose a tempo on the other! A weak attempt by Abdel-Aziz is safely grabbed by Bologna, the Argentinean keeper in minute 6. Just a few minutes later, it's Cuero bringing down Bencharki just outside the box and we have a dangerous free kick! Shammas' attempt once again safely into the hands of Bologna. Banfield is really trying to go down the right wing with Cuero (he looks like quite a different player, el diferente!) and the game settles into a ryhthm. And yet in minute 23...... Mahmoud Abdel Aziz (what a tournament he's had!) dispossesses Lollo in the midfield! Abdel-Aziz passes to Mugosa who then passes to Shammas... The Egyptian is all alone against the Keeper...... OHHH!!!! He tries to place it in the top left corner but it sails wide!! What a chance wasted by Zamalek!!!! That was almost a goal!! Yet only 4 minutes later... the tables seem to turn, Banfield plays a bit of tiki-taka as Cvitanich finds Cuero once again on the wing, he crosses high to the far post, finding Cvitanich.... IT HAS HIT THE POST!! If the Argentinean had arrived a second earlier, this might've been a goal for Banfield!! What a 4 minute stretch. Two clear chances, one by each side!! Banfield recovers and it's another shot for Cvitanich, but this one luckily goes way over the bar!

Banfield is playing a high press though, and we are having trouble passing the ball out of our half! Only two minutes later, Hamed loses it to Domingo in a dangerous position, he performs a 1-2 with Cvitanich and it's DOMINGOOO... Just wide!!!! We have to be careful. Even though Zamalek started the match better, it's Banfield that has found the more dangerous chances as we near the half-hour mark!! We are having a bit of trouble generating attack under the Argentineans' pressure, yet in minute 37, Mugosa tries a shot after a Shammas through lob, but is wayward! The first half ends with a couple of more chances by each side, but nothing that threatens either goalkeeper in a major way, and as the whistle sounds, it is 0-0 at the break!! A pretty even match, yet one in which Banfield had more possession (playing tiki-taka and pressuring us high), while Zamalek tried to find spaces on the counter!!

1696577812067.png1696576385829.png

The second half starts, in a tension filled final!! Our goalkeeper Awaad saves a dangerous looking cross in min 51, and we can safely say that the first 15 minutes or so of the half is a complete possession nightmare for Zamalek! Our opponents are not letting us build anything, and their tiki-taka style is really starting to wear our patience thin! "Stay calm, stay calm!" Manager Millossobek yells from the touchline, as we try to dispossess Banfield and try to mount an attack of our own, to no avail... Until in minute 59, we finally break through after Hamdy dispossesses Galoppo! Hamdy passes it to Shammas, who finds a streaking Abdel-Aziz and he goes on a great run (while being pressured by the defense), running all the way from midfield to the box, trying to do a "Maradona '86" but ohhhhh! His shot is blocked by Domingo! This was a great, individual chance by the Egyptian, but the truth is, we aren't finding many spaces and we had to resort to individualities while Banfield seem content in passing the ball around.. Yet in min 65, oh!! Hamed builds from the back, finds Abdel-Aziz who finds a through ball to Mugosa!! HE'S ALL ALONE!! Could this be!! Could this beeeeeeeeee..... Coronel clearly brings him down in the box AND IT'S A PENALTY KICK FOR ZAMALEK!!!! :RSCARF: The referee shows Coronel the yellow card and it's our #9, Montenegrin Stefan Mugosa, who steps up to take the PK............... He's scored 7 goals in the Cup.. Will this be the 8th????

1696579111876.png

Nooooooooo!!!! Mugosa's PK leaves a lot to be desired as he shoots it down the middle and the Argentinean keeper saves it!! What a chance wasted by Zamalek, this could've been decisive in such a tight match! Mugosa hangs his head a bit but he knows that he has to keep his spirits up!! The match rolls on, and in min 75.. CONTROVERSY!! Mugosa is once again CLEARLY brought down in the box, this time by Lollo.... BUT NO CALL!!!!!! This adds insult to injury!! Are the referees against us?? This was a clear foul in the box to Manager Millossobek's eyes.... And Stefan Mugosa cannot believe it! Yet we soldier on...15 minutes left in regulation. The Zamalek faithful can't believe that wasn't a PK in favor of us, but we have to look forward.. In minute 85, we have another chance!!!! Hamed finds Mugosa with the through ball and the Montenegrin is once again, one on one vs Bolognaaaaaa NOOOOOOO!!!! Stefan shoots it waay over the bar!! After scoring a hat-trick in the semifinal, this has been a nightmarish evening for Mugosa!!!! Four minutes later, it's Banfield on the attack, as Maldonado attempts a shot from just outside the box, which is saved by Awaad, and a few minutes later we are going to extra time!!

As extra tme starts, we decide to substitute an exhausted Zizo on the right wing and bring in our top substitute of the Cup, Shikabala, hopefully to bring in some fresh legs and his effect is immediate, as a right midfielder who tracks down and has the stamina to dispossess the Argentineans. We will need fresh legs in this extra time for sure.. Both teams are exhausted but this is the 3-Star Cup Final, and Pride knows no Fatigue!! The match continues on with its familiar pattern, with Banfield playing possession football and Zamalek looking for the counter when..... in Min. 97, Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz INTERCEPTS Lollo's pass in a dangerous positon, Mugosa is streaking!!!!! Abdel-Aziz passes it to Mugosa, who faces Abecasis in the box, MUGOSA ELUDES HIM, IT'S A RACE BETWEEN HIM AND THE KEEPER, MUGOSA FINDS THE SPACE HE SHOOTS AND.....

1696580135320.png

:RSCARF: GOAAAL!! IT'S A GOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!!!! STEFAN MUGOSA SCORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A PLAY BY STEFAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE ARE UP 1-0 IN EXTRA TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :RSCARF:
Zamalek has finally broken through!!!!! Mugosa's night has taken a 180 degree turn!!!! We are up 1-0 with eight minutes to go in the first period of extra time!! What would we do, what tactics would we employ?? Manager Millossobek decided to lower his lines a bit, but not play cynical football! Cynical football did not bring us here, and we will continue to play our game!! In min 104, it's a Free Kick for Zamalek, yet Abdel-Aziz's header is lobbed and wayward, but we are still trying to score as the first period draws to a close!! As the second period starts, we decide to bring in Mohammad Ounajem in to replace Bencharki, our left winger, who is also exhausted. A fresh pair of wingers with good defensive capacities as well, tasked to track back and protect our lead and also look for counters if available! Only 15 minutes separate us from glory!! The match draws on as we back up our lines, and in min 112, it's a dangerous free kick in favor of Banfield!! Datolo shoots with a lot of curve and it is just saved by Awaad!! Oh man, would the end of the match bring suspense and suffering for Zamalek???? Banfield is desperately trying to find an equalizer,, but they are being careless!! Lollo can't control the strong backpass from Coronel, and Mugosa dispossesses, using his strength to move forward with defensive pressure he shoots,, Bologna saves!! The rebound, Mugosa again, Bologna saves again, with a save that is beyond!! What cat-like reflexes by the Argentinean to keep Banfield's hopes alive!! But the clock is ticking.. It's min 117..... 118..... 119.... 120... +2 minutes additional time.. Can we hold on???? Cuero passes it to Maldonado, who passes it back to CUERO, HE GOES PAST TWO ZAMALEK DEFENDERS with a beautiful move, OH NO MINUTE 120 CUERO IS ALL ALONE HE SHOOTS A POWERFUL SHOT......

1696581218526.png

AND IT IS SAVED BY AWAAD!!!!!!!!!
MOHAMED AWAAD WITH THE LEAD-PRESERVING SAVE IN MINUTE 120+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a save!!!! What a miraculous save!!!!! Mohamed Awaad punches the shot away to a corner IN THE PLAY OF HIS LIFE!!!! Would this be a Cup-Winning Save?? Can we hold on for a few more instants? We still have to defend this corner!! Dátolo with the corner kiiiiick...... IT'S PUNCHED AWAY BY AWAAD!!!!! Lollo recovers, is pressured by El-Wensh, his pass is wayward and out of bounds.. Throw in by Zamalek, Mathlouthi to Shikabala who desperately and skillfully clears it and.................................

1696581639393.png

THE FINAL WHISTLE BLOWS!!!!!!! THE EGYPTIAN FAITHFUL GO ABSOLUTELY BERSERK IN JOY AS MAHMOUD ABDEL-AZIZ HOLDS IN HEAD IN DISBELIEF....
IT'S ZAMALEK!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!! ZAMALEK FROM EGYPT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:RSCARF: 🏆WE ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE THREE STARS CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🏆 :RSCARF:

What a scene in Maracaná!!!! Zamalek FC, El Fares El Abyad, wearing black tonight and with All of Egypt behind them, have crowned themselves Champions of the 3-Stars Cup!!!!! A historic night, against an epically tough opponent in Banfield, a night that had absolutely everything: A clash of styles, a missed PK, extra time, two loud and passionate fanbases from two different continents, and in the end, it is the Egyptian side, it is us who prevail, with Stefan Mugosa's extra time goal (to finish the 3-Stars Cup with 8 goals, and give the Zamalek fans a night they will never forget), and Millossobek's FIRST 3-STARS CUP TITLE AFTER 5 TRIES!!!!!! I couldn't ask for a better ending in my first FIFA story, in the mythical FIFA 16, in the legendary Maracaná, with a team that stole my heart and ran with it, a team which I now feel close to, halfway accross the globe!! This experience was one of my greatest ones, one that I will never forget, and the reason why I play and write my stories.....THE DESTINATION IS IMPORTANT, BUT THE EXPERIENCE IS WHAT COUNTS!!!!!! LONG LIVE ZAMALEK FC!!!!!!! :RSCARF:

1696581977121.png
Manager Millossobek: This is a historic win. I dedicate this win not only to the players, to our beautiful fans, but also to the entire country of Egypt and the continent of Africa!! We represented you with pride and with passion!!

Stefan Mugosa: "I knew I'd get my chance. After having a difficult game, a missed penalty and a great chance near the end of regulation, I knew that when I had my chance in extra time that I would take it!! I was totally confident in that one!! Seriously!! I'm not trying to be brash or anything, but I knew that I'd get my chance and seeing how the game was developing I knew that the shot would come and....."

GETS DOUSED IN CHAMPAGNE

"OH WHO CARES WHO CARES!!!!!!!! ZAMALEK ZAMALEEEEEEK THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

WELCOME TO THE SECOND EDITION OF THE EUROPA PRIDE LEAGUE! (FIFA 15)
PAOK Thessaloniki Look For Their First International Title!

Hey guys! I was thinking about taking a break after winning the 3-Stars Cup with Zamalek, but I enjoyed it so much that I decided to take on a new "4-Stars Challenge!" The idea, similar to the first Europa Pride League (which is still ongoing with FCSB in PES 2018), is to gather different teams from around Europe and play a single league season! In this edition, I have decided, for the first time, to include 16 teams that have a maximum rating of 4-Stars: Welcome to my second FIFA story: The Europa Pride League, featuring none other than Northern Greece' biggest team, PAOK THESSALONIKI!!

1697133460414.png
For this edition of the Pride League, I have decided to include 16 teams, to play 30 games in the season, featuring 2 from Germany (Bayer Leverkusen, in conditon as favorites as a 4.5-Stars squad, and Hannover 96!), 2 from Italy (Atalanta and Genoa), 1 from Turkey (Besiktas), 1 from Spain (Celta de Vigo), 1 from Russia (CSKA Moskva), 1 from Switzerland (FC Basel),1 from the Netherlands (PSV Eindhoven), 1 from Belgium (Anderlecht), 1 from France (Saint-Etienne), 1 from Portugal (Sporting CP), 2 from England (Sunderland and West Ham United), and 2 from Greece (Olympiakos, and our protagonists, PAOK Thessaloniki!!) :TU: A nice combination of local Champions, bigger teams that have not won in a while, darkhorses, and historical squads!

1697136481661.png

I decided to include a 4-Musketeers lineup for this story as well! 2 created classic players (One of my perennial favorites, Jay-Jay Okocha, so good they named him twice! And Lazio and River legend Matías Almeyda), 1 invented player (Grigorios Panagiotidis), and 1 transferred player, the starting Greece goalkeeper at the time (Orestis Karnesis, transferred from Udinese!) The team also features Greek NT Striker Dimitris Salpingidis, who can also play on the wing, and (also invented) Kyriakos Zyogas (CF) and Theodoros Samaras (LM), which I will be unveiling later! We are ready to tackle 4-Star Europe!

I'm really looking forward to this story, and the interplay and chemistry between the players. I expect Okocha to bring his magical dribbling, Almeyda to be tenacious as a classical defensive midfielder, Panagiotidis to be flying down the wings and Karnesis to be a solid presence between the posts! It'll be really interesting to see how this league plays out, with a bit more talented squads than my historical 3-Stars Cups. I bet the competition is going to be fierce, unyielding and uncompromising, in this display of Europe's middle-high tier, teams that are not counted amongst the most famous or successful, but are a step above talent-wise than the 3-Stars teams! Europa Pride, representing Northern Greece, here comes PAOK THESSALONIKI!!!!

1697141540946.png

Jay-Jay Okocha: "I never fancied myself as a functional-first player.. I love to entertain the crowd, to display my creativity and style and to play freely. The great thing about being at PAOK is that manager Millossobek lets me express myself on the pitch, gives me the space and freedom to play the kind of football that I love: on-the-fly, more intuitive than logical, more artistic and loose. The boss trusts my instincts to make things happen on the football pitch, and I will not let him or my team down! I expect to fully showcase my ability."

Matías Almeyda: "Manager Millos told me that I am the engine that drives this team, and I take this role very seriously. I am here to do the dirty work, to recuperate loose-balls, to fight for every possession, to pressure the offensive players and create things from the midfield, and to inspire the team. I have a very clear role, and as team captain, I know that I am the emotional leader of PAOK. My personality is strong but my approach is team-first. I will try to lead us to a Europa Pride League title!"

Orestis Karnesis: "I am so glad to come back to Greece. I had great years in Italy, playing for Udinese, but there's just something special about playing for a team in your country. I will guard the goalposts with all of my might and I look forward to the challenge of facing some of Europe's best and most talented strikers in this international league! My heart is here"

Grigorios Panagiotidis: "As I am a native of Northern Greece, this Pride League is especially important to me. I am here not only representing my team, but also my region of Greece, and the country in general. I know this is a huge responsibility, but I can't wait to showcase what I can do in front of the entire world. The eyes of Europe now rest on the Pride League, and bringing home PAOK's first international title to the city of Thessaloniki and the region of Macedonia, Greece, is an honor and a humbling experience. I am ready to represent my colors with PRIDE!"

For this edition of the Pride League, I have decided to include 16 teams, to play 30 games in the season, featuring 1 from Germany (Bayer Leverkusen, in conditon as favorites as a 4.5-Stars squad, and Hannover 96!), 2 from Italy (Atalanta and Genoa), 1 from Turkey (Besiktas), 1 from Spain (Celta de Vigo), 1 from Russia (CSKA Moskva), 1 from Switzerland (FC Basel),1 from the Netherlands (PSV Eindhoven), 1 from Belgium (Anderlecht), 1 from France (Saint-Etienne), 1 from Portugal (Sporting CP), 2 from England (Sunderland and West Ham United), and 2 from Greece (Olympiakos, and our protagonists, PAOK Thessaloniki!!) :TU: A nice combination of local Champions, bigger teams that have not won in a while, darkhorses, and historical squads!

View attachment 240874

I decided to include a 4-Musketeers lineup for this story as well! 2 created classic players (One of my perennial favorites, Jay-Jay Okocha, so good they named him twice! And Lazio and River legend Matías Almeyda), 1 invented player (Grigorios Panagiotidis), and 1 transferred player, the starting Greece goalkeeper at the time (Orestis Karnesis, transferred from Udinese!) The team also features Greek NT Striker Dimitris Salpingidis, who can also play on the wing, and Stefanos Athanasiadis!

Fun Fact 2 : Shikabala the once upon a time called "Egyptian Rivaldo" , started from Zamalek, jumped to PAOK for the European dream, went back to Zamalek, then went to UAE league, then back and forth to Zamalek, later he tried another chance to Europe with Sporting Lisbon, and finally ended in Egypt again, Zamalek and some other teams in Egypt.

With a small stop to Apollon Smyrnis, he is now the Captain of Zamalek, this season. I am sure he is somewhere in FIFA 15, around Sporting CP and/or Zamalek. If the rosters have n't been finalised, he would be a decent 5th Musketeer, like the son of D'Artagnan :P

HAHAHAHHAHA.....assume you come from Greece too, reading this and your comment on Football "Ligd" 2 :)

Jokes aside, Shikabala IMHO was very good in individual technique and great talent on playmaking, with football IQ of previous decades, much higher than modern football players, but i assume he was that type of character like Warda, but in worse version. Self-destructive, lazy in traininng, etc.

Also assuming that we achieved to destroy him, putting an unknown player coming from Egypt to Europe, in direct comparison to a full carreer Rivaldo, and assuming that in Egypt they probably had him as a hot prospect marketing wise, it might be, completelly destructive for his Athlet Character.

Hopefully it did not happen the same with Yaya Toure, Vieirinha, who came to Greece for a new step to Europe, or a second chance.

p.s.: Sorry for offtopic.

Haha, no problem for off topic! About Almeyda, I actually just found about a week ago, haha, slam told me.. It never ocurred to me at the time that he would be precisely playing for AEK's rival PAOK, but it is cool that it turned out that way! I usually like to include some "retired players" in my saves, make them younger, not necessarily superstars (with the exception of Jay-Jay!) but good players who complement the story well. :) I always liked Almeyda's story, coming back to South America to play and manage, it's a very interesting tale!

In addition, It's actually quite interesting to hear about Shikabala's background! He was a key player in my FIFA 16 Zamalek save, usually the first player off the bench to bring a "spark" for my team, could play either wing too, so it's cool to hear a bit more about his background! Coincidentally he also played for PAOK! "The Egyptian Rivaldo", that's awesome. :) I think those kind of "talented but somewhat lazy" players are in a way, interesting, hehe.. I've always wanted to include Freddy Adu, for example, in a "what-if" story either in My Player Career or in ML.. We shall see. :)

Well done mate! Castolo looks like a luxury for Brazilian Serie B!

It was a great ride until now, wonder if the guys will be able to stay focused until the very end. Just five games and we'll know:BSCARF::GSCARF:!

BRASILEIRAO, Here We Come!!!!! (PES 2021)
Sócrates, Castolo and Leandro lead Estrela Azul Paulista
to Brazil's Serie A for the First Time in Their History!!

38 Matches Played (+3 Copa do Brasil Matches)
23 Wins, 9 Draws, 6 Losses
1st in Brasileirao Serie B :BSCARF:

There are times when all of our aspirations and hopes are crystallized in one moment, a moment in time that persists, carries on in our hearts and that gives us strength for all upcoming challenges. This was definitely the case for Estrela Azul Paulista's faithful supporters, hailing from the city of Sao Paulo and beyond, who came out in droves to see their dear Blue Star-a team which only two seasons ago was in the third division of Brazilian Football. Now, like a streaking METEOR, and in only two years, we have risen through the ranks of the second division, under Sócrates cool and collected leadership, and now the cycle is finally complete: Nobody thought this would be possible with this rag-tag bunch of mad hatters, but now we can really say: WE BELONG IN THE BRASILEIRAO!!!!! :BSCARF:

In the last installment of our dear Brazilian tale, we had just finished our first season under Sócrates. After a somewhat frustrating start to our first season, we finished 7-9-3 after the midseason break to end our season strongly! Castolo was showing more confidence after an erratic start, our youngster Leandro was developing well, and a mid-table finish (12th) was better than expected for Estrela Azul, since we had started our first season as one of the lowest-ranked teams in the league! However, shrewd management, picking up relatively inexpensive young players in the transfer market, while also overseeing the continued development of Castolo and Leandro meant that we finished the season in a much better position than when we started, and were looking to shore up our squad leading into our second Brasileirao B season!

1697702743813.png

Here are some of the players that I signed in the offseason and throughout my second season: Pedro Naressi, a well-rounded box to box CMF from Ceará, Allan, my starting DMF with a lot of upside from Atlético Mineiro, Vágner, a talented Cape Verdian Free Agent Winger, and Andrés Llinás, a tough Center Back from my very own Millonarios! This helped me set up a good base to play my second season, and were ready to complement Castolo and Leandro throughout the journey!

In anycase, some of you might not be too familiar with the composition of the Brazilian Leagues! Historically speaking, the Copa do Brasil has a huge weight in the country. Brasileirao, as a league, is relatively young compared to some of the other World Leagues, being as it was consolidated in the 1950's! Before that, because of geographical and other historical considerations, Brazil played a lot of regional cups, and also the Copa do Brasil, which is still considered a very important national competition, with a lot of footballing romance attached to it! What is different about it, however, is that the entire cup is played BEFORE the season starts, which makes it different from other leagues. As the Cup started, we were matched up against Sampaio Correa, a fellow 2nd division team, and the result was a positive one: we prevailed 1-3 with two goals from Castolo!! Consqeuently, this set up a huge and epic second round match against none other than Corinthians, Sócrates beloved team as a player, and one of the largest and most passionate fanbases in not only Brazil, but in all of South America and the world! This was a momentous occassion: Sócrates facing his former team, and of course, the quotes were flowing freely in the press conference.

1697707433556.png

Sócrates: "Playing for Corinthians was an honor. Representing one of Brazil's biggest fanbases and the city of Sao Paulo was really, my destiny as a player.. Coming back to this historical stadium to play against them creates a feeling of me that I cannot quite describe in words.. A bittersweet feeling of nostalgia that is extremely hard to pin down, mixed with anticipation, happiness, a bit of sadness, but also a high dose of excitement.. I played for Corinthians for 7 years, and I gave this team the best years of my career.. both on the pitch and off the pitch.. I tried to help create a culture of joy, fairness and Democracia Corinthiana. But now, I am coming back with Estrela Azul Paulista, and I think if there is something that I can still contriibute to Brazilian football it is this: I want to help restore the soul of our footballing culture, imprinted in the style of play of my players, and I am also working hard to promote a culture of peace off the pitch, not tolerating any sort of violence in the stands and beyond.. And welcoming families and the entire nation back to the stadium, where they belong and where they can enjoy the game as it is supposed to be played. This is my two-fold commitment to Brazilian football: Restore our jogo bonito, a playing style which should've never left us, from the streets to the pitch, playing wth heart but also with joy and a huge perspective, and also to promote peace. Regardless of today's result, I think this has to be our legacy! May the best team win!"

This was a tough, defensive match full of emotion on both sides, as Corinthians' massive fanbase unfurled a huge banner which read "Muito obrigado, Doutor Sócrates, para sempre em nossos corações Corinthianos!". Sócrates could hardly contain his emotions before the match started.. But there was a match to be played.. One against a much stronger opponent: Corinthians' first half was much better than ours, as they clearly outshot us and were showing their superior quality all over the pitch, but our defense was definitely holding strong, as we denied them 3 very clear chances to score! Yet the encounter remained 0-0 as the halftime whistle blew, and we knew that we were playing good defensive football as well as resisting the onslaught by Corinthians! As the second half started, a header by Jo almost scored for them, as our goalkeeper Gouvea was able to just save it, and it was looking like it would only be a matter of time before they would exert their dominance on us.. Minute 51, another chance by Corinthians, and in minute 69 yet another header at point-blank range which would've surely been a goal had it not been for the cat-like reflexes of our goalkeeper! Minute 72, Nico Melamed with yet another chance (a rocket!!!!), saved by our goalkeeper's feet ensued.. Could little Estrela Azul Paulista keep defending like this against the giants??

1697708619250.png

And then, suddenly out of the blue, in minute 75, it's a counterattack by Estrela Azul!! Sócrates decided to play our lines a bit defensively and go entirely on the counter.. Vágner played a beautiful long ball to Castolo, who protects the ball beautifully and sends it to a streaking Arthur Gomes who receives it, bodies off the Corinthians defender and.... BEATS CASIO!!!! IT'S A GOAAAAL FOR US and amazingly, it's 1-0 Estrela Azul Paulista!!!! Half of the stadium went absolutely crazy as we had scored seemingly out of the blue!! (Our players were beside themselves but Sócrates, amazingly, did not celebrate but looked off into the horizon with an expression full of saudade).. Incredibly, we were able to hold on for the rest of the match, despite Corinthians having a clear chance to score in minute 90+4 (Gil's shot was thankfully wide), and as the final whistle sounded, it was David vs Goliath!! A major Cup upset which announced the arrival of Estrela Azul to the world!!!! Estrela Azul Paulista had beaten first division giants Corinthians, with our goalscoring hero being our winger Arthur Gomes! Sócrates, the protagonist of the day, however, was philosophical and rather pensive in the post-match press conference..

Reporter: "You didn't celebrate when Arthur scored his goal, perhaps understandably.. What was going through your mind?"
Sócrates (after a long pause, and speaking very seriously and slowly): "Answering this question, friends, would be like explaining the meaning of poetry. You could try to do it, but the explanation would actually defeat its own purpose. I will just say this: Football is a beautiful game, and we are all privileged to be a part of it."

Final score, Estrela Azul Paulista 1-0 Corinthians. This was the moment of the Cup, the most beautiful, peaceful and dramatic match in our history......
The fact that we weren't able to pull off a result in the third round, a 1-3 final score against Avaí, is almost an afterthought. The 2021 Copa Do Brasil was over for us, but we had written history in a major way, and left our mark in the hallowed tales of the competition.. But still.. This wasn't the end, it was just the beginning. Remember: The Brasileirao B season was about to start..!!

1697710512832.png
Our first 5 matches bought forth really positive results! Our players were definitely buoyed by our Cup performance (despite the third round loss), and we started off with 4 wins in our first 5 games! A 1-0 win against Goiás was followed by a 3-1 defeat against CRB, but we rebounded in style with 3 straight wins (in a theme that would repeat itself throughout the season, our fighting spirit!) against Operario (4-2), Chapecoense (0-1), and Guaraní (1-0). Estrela Azul Paulista was firing on all cylinders to start the season, and our newly brought players were meshing very well with Castolo and Leandro! Fixture 6 was a stop to our streak however, as we lost 3-2 to Remo, followed by a 2-2 draw against Sport Recife. This put somewhat of a stop to our freight train, yet we rebounded once again with two straight wins, a 1-2 win against CSA and a 2-1 result against Brasil de Pelotas before drawing 1-1 against Sampaio Correa in fixture 10! This was followed by another draw against Atlético Go (2-2), a 1-2 win on the road against Vitória, a 2-0 win against Vila Nova, and finally in fixture 14 we fell 1-0 to Ponte Preta. Yet despite this temporary setback, we went into the mid-season break (after fixture 14 and not 19, due to the particular scheduling of having the entire Copa do Brasil played first), with a great record of 8 wind, 3 draws, and 3 losses, good enough for 4th place in the division! (The Top 4 in Brazil are directly promoted to first divison, without a playoff)! A much better than expected first half of the season, and one that had seen us go on several impressive winning streaks!

1697712130827.png

After the break, we came out absolutely on fire! After a 1-1 draw against Cruzeiro in fixture 15, Estrela Azul won 4 out of their next 5 matches! A 0-1 win against the always tough América Mineiro was followed by a 1-1 result against one of the top teams in Brasileirao B, the mighty Botafogo (who would prove to be a mighty foe until the end of the season!) Then we went on yet another 3 game winning streak: A 1-2 result against Confianca, a 1-2 win against Brusque, and a 0-1 win against Goiás, made especially sweet since all three wins had come on the road! We were cementing our position amongst the top teams in the division, and going into fixture 21, promotion was looking more like a distinct possibility than a faraway goal! A 1-1 result against CRB at home would be followed by two straight wins! A 2-3 away result in favor of us against Operario followed by a 3-0 win at home vs Chapecoense! Even though we lost our next match, 2-1 vs Guaraní, we rebounded quite nicely in fixture 25 against Remo, a 2-0 home win. Our next five matches would be a bit more of a mixed bag, 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses (a 1-0 away loss against Sport Recife fllowed by 2 wins, 1-0 vs CSA and 1-2 vs Brasil de Pelotas, followed by a 0-0 draw against Atlético Go and a 2-1 win against Vitória!) But going into fixture 32, with only 7 matches left to go in the season, we were sitting in second place with 61 points, just behind second division leaders Botafogo, who had 62! Promotion was definitely on the horizon, yet we weren't counting our chips just yet!

Then came fixture 32, visiting Vila Nova (full game included above), and it was definitely somewhat of a crazy match, with 4 goals coming in a 15 minute span, (2 for us and 2 for Villa Nova in the last 15 minutes of the half, including a very nice side-heel by Warley off a corner kick, who is becoming a key player off the bench for us), but one which we eventually prevailed due to a Castolo goal in minute 62! The final result as Vila Nova 2-3 Estrela Azul, and this win brought us closer to our hallowed goal! With Botafogo and Cruzeiro drawing 0-0, this result meant that for the first time this season, we had sole possession of first place, as we had 64 points and Botafogo had 63 (albeit they had a +24 goal difference while we had +17!)

Matchday 33 featured Estrela Azul hosting Ponte Petra, and this was an absolute Castolo show, a performance for the ages! One thing to note that perhaps I haven't mentioned before: Our friend Castolo is having an incredible season, leading the entire second division in goals scored and like @Madmac79 said, clearly showing that he is a luxury for Brasileirao Serie B! And this game was no exception, as he scored 3 goals in 7 minutes for the hat-trick!!!! (The first goal was a deft shot to the bottom right corner after being assisted by Leo Natel, min 32, then came a great goal from outside the box in min 35, once again assisted by Natel and finishing with a perfectly anged shot, and then in min 39, a beautiful header off a Leandro CK to the opposite corner, no chance for the Ponte Petra goalkeeper!) Castolo was once again, proving to be an unstoppable force of nature!!!! This result, couped with Botafogo drawing once again, this time against América Mineiro 1-1, extended our lead to 3 points in the standings, and meant that with a win, we could ensure promotion in the next match!! :TU:

And did we perform!! Fixture 34 was against Cruzeiro, the historical Brazilian giants (2-time Libertadores winners and 4 time Brasileirao A champions, but who have been on a historical slump as of late!), and this was a tough match, with good chances created by both sides! We were under a lot of pressure, as Cruzeiro still had an outside chance at promotion and were really fighting, but in a match that was decided by one play, in minute 27, a classic connection between Leandro and Castolo produced a TURN-AROUND-AND-SHOOT GOAAAAAL by our star striker, and we were able to hold on for the 1-0 win!!!! Yes!!!!! It had happened!!! This win had ENSURED PROMOTION TO BRASILEIRAO SERIE A!!!!! After a long and difficult haul, we could finally say that we belong in BRASILEIRAO A, and it was more than fitting that our two stars, Leandro and Castolo, participated in the deciding play that would give us the win!! Quality has its definitive rewards, and this was no exception, as we had finally reached our goal!!!! :BSCARF:

Yet the story wasn't over yet. After a 2-2 draw against América Mineiro in Matchday 35, we still wanted to fight for 1st place in the league, which would be a great honor! And guess who was coming in Fixture 36, #2 Botafogo themselves! Even though winning the title was not nearly as important as achieving promotion, it was still something that Sócrates had in their collective sights! And this was indeed a very dramatic match, worthy of the the #1 and #2 teams were facing off in a late-season battle! It was a very close and disputed encounter all throughout, one that was epically decided in the last 10 minutes! An 82 goal by Botafogo's Matheus Nascimento seemed to close the deal and make the standings table even closer (a win by Botafogo would've propelled them to first place!), but in minute 90+3, it's LEANDRO!!!! Streaking his way into the box and recovering his own rebound, our youngster was able to score in the last play of the game to make it 1-1!!!! A clutch performance to secure the point! This tie, however, would mean that our coronation would have to wait, as we were leading Botafogo 72 to 69 in the standings with two matches left to go!!

Fixture 37 was a 5-1 drubbing against Confianca, featuring yet another Castolo hat-trick! A complete goal festival in old-school Brazilian style which was 4-0 at the halftime break! This win was a great show for our fans, who chanted the names of our players (as well as Sócrates) in a great revival of Jogo Bonito! Yet, Botafogo won their respective game as well, which meant that the title decider would all be determined in the last match of the season, against Brusque! A draw would be enough to give us the title, but we weren't taking anything for granted, as we were definitely coming out to win and put a great exclamation point to our season! A wonderful free kick by Rhuan would open proceedings in minute 16, leaving the Brusque goalkeeper completely frozen, followed by another goal by Vágner (fed by Castolo) in minute 36, and in seemed like we were cruising our way towards the title as we led 2-0! But Brusque would not give up easily, as their pride would not allow a crushing defeat, as only 4 minutes later, Zé Maetus would come back with a free kick of his own to make it 2-1, and in the second half would actually equalize with a score by their striker Marlone to make it 2-2! But Estrela Azul Paulista would not be denied, as in min. 88, Castolo made a wonderful through pass to our speedy left winger Léo Natel (who had replaced the departing Arthur Gomes in midseason) who finished the play and scored!! Final score: 3-2 in favor of our boys, and as the final whistle blows, we could finally say that not only were we promoted, but we had won the Brasileirao B as well!!!!!!🏆:TU::BSCARF:

1697743812893.png

What a magical ending to a magical season! As thousands of blue confetti came raining down the sky, the scene expressed the culiminaton of a long, grinding, 38 match season full of mesmerizing moments and personalities! CASTOLO LED THE WAY, absolutely dominating Brasileirao B with an impressive display of 24 goals (#2, Neto Moura from Remo, had 12, so this means that Castolo DOUBLED the second highest scorer!), and Leandro did his brilliant playmaking part with 14 assists, also leading the league and bringing an old-school sensibility to modern playmaking! Two seasons ago, we had started among the least talented clubs in Serie B, but due to the force and charisma of Sócrates' personality and some shrewd management, we were able to bring in some key pieces to complement our stars and we created a well-rounded team that, from start to the finish line of our second season, looked like one of the strongest teams in the league! The road wasn't easy, but we clearly outclassed our opponents and confidently marched on to the title. However, now the real challenge begins: We are in Brasileirao Serie A, where we will be facing giants such as Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, Corinthians, Inter, Gremio, and other historical teams with massive support and who triple us (or even more) in purchasing power! Yet there is one thing to be said about my dear Paulista squad: Never count them out. A Brazilian revolution has begun, one that saw its birthplace in the Favelas of Sao Paulo, with Street Football, Jogo Bonito, an emphasis on mind, spirit and creativity rather than physicality, a peaceful approach off the field typified by Sócrates approach focused on respect and family, and this revolution will hopefully carry on to the Brasileirao! You see, Brazil was once known as the birthplace of beautiful football.. And now, we are looking to restore this spirit, playing with joy, a certain calmness amidst the storms and exude the happiness and spontaneity that the nation is known for, like the warm breezes that come along Brazilian neighborhoods bringing with them scents and flavors of a distant and glorious past, as well as sounds of millions of people chanting and embracing under the Paulista skies. Estrela Azul Paulista, we are in Brasileirao!!!!!!!

1697744626110.png

Sócrates: "I had two objectives when starting my tenure in Estrela Azul. To bring about an identity change in Brazilian football and to bring back peace to our stands. I think we have achieved both.. And this is no small feat. I feel that these two objectives must guide us through the tough waters of Brasileirao Serie A. Results are important, but I have stressed this to the board: I am not only here to win. I am here to create a culture, and to influence both our team and Brazilian football in general. I do not think it is a coincidence that the National Team has lost its way a bit in the past few years.. It all starts here, at the club level, which is the lifeblood of football and the heart and soul of everything that we are trying to do.. We will continue on with this line of thought, with this philosophy, drawing inspiration from each one of our players and fans, and the nation of Brazil as a whole. Democracia Azul! :BSCARF: "

Leandro: "Yes I am still young, only 20 years old.. But I feel, deep inside of my heart, that I am an old soul. I still listen to old Sambas, and Bossa Novas. I don't quite listen to today's music, and I feel like I could've played in the 60's, 70',s or 80's.. I prefer not to be in the spotlight, but let my game shine for itself.. I am so grateful for Teacher Sócrates for giving me the freedom to express myself on the pitch.. Playing a more cerebral yet at the same time more spiritual game which suits me well.. This is the perfect team for me, and I don't want to be playing anywhere else. Now a new challenge begins, and we are all for it."

Castolo: "It was inevitable. We are inevitable! Brasileirao, we are here to stay!!!!!" breaks out in a sudden Brazilian shuffle!!

🏆MILLOS PLAYS COPA SUDAMERICANA!!🏆
:BSCARF: A PES 2016 ADVENTURE!! :BSCARF:
Hey bros! For this installment of Millossobek's Stories, I wanted to try an edition that I had never tried before in this thread: PES 2016!! Why this edition? Well, for a very simple reason: It is one of the only two PES installments (the other one being 2015 I believe) that includes a fully licensed Copa Sudamericana! Instead of starting a Master League and qualifying for Sudamericana, I wanted to play an entire Cup on its own, given that my dear Millonarios is already included in the 2014 Sudamericana in this edition! (By virtue of finishing on a good standing in the local Colombian Tournament in real life). Interesting to note, that in the early to mid 2010's, Millos was in the midst of a renaissance. Our last league title had come in 1988, and 24 years passed until we lifted the league title in 2012, featuring a historical generation of players (Captain Mayer Candelo, Rafa Robayo, Fabián Vargas amongst them). So I thought it'd be a fitting story, both for the time period and also with this particular edition: Let's try to bring Millos to Sudamericana glory! So here we go, PES 2016.. the infamous "flawed goalkeepers" edition but with otherwise solid gameplay! Load up those gameplay mods, millossobek, tweak some goalkeeper stats, and let's go!! :BSCARF:

1698862689588.png

Just in case some of you guys are wondering about Copa Sudamericana: It is the South American equivalent of the Europa League in Europe! Even though not as prestigious as our most celebrated international competition, La Copa Libertadores, Sudamericana has developed a good prestige in its own right! It was created in the early 2000's, joining two previous tournaments (Copa Merconorte and Copa Mercosur, which were two regional tournaments which divided South America in North and South Regions, Millos actually won the Merconorte in 2001)! Not surprisingly, Brazilian and Argentinean teams have dominated this competition (winning 14 out of the 22 disputed titles), but on the whole, this Cup, much like the Europa League, is considered to be more unpredictable than Libertadores, as teams from Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Peru and Mexico have won it in the past! I personally think this is what makes this competiton so exciting, as it is more wide open! Would 2014 be a chance for our dear Millonarios? Let's get right to it!

PHASE 1
Match 1:
Millonarios (COL) vs Cesar Vallejo (PER)

This first phase game matched us up against Universidad Cesar Vallejo of Peru! Vallejo is not one of the strongest teams in the country (as they are not part of the Peruvian "big 3" of Alianza, Universitario de Deportes and Sporting Cristal, but they've had good campaigns in the mid 2010's and some local Cups! However, it is important to note that Millos would have to be considered as favorites in this one, but we weren't taking anything for granted as we kicked off proceedings in our stadium, Estadio El Campín! The match started really well for us, as Roberto "El Búfalo" Ovelar had a straight great chance in minute 3, just saved by the Peruvian keeper! Only 5 minutes later, it was Ovelar with the score off a nicely placed cross by our Right Midfielder, Willy Luango, and it's 1-0 Millos! Great way to start our Copa Sudamericana! Moving forward, we kept on attacking, and in minute 15, it was Ovelar again, with one of the coolest goals I've ever scored, a double header in the box to make it 2-0!

1698850975287.png

We pretty much thought we were dominating this match all throughout, as we outshot and outplayed Cesar Vallejo in the entire first half, and added a nice goal by Ovelar in min 53 (El Búfalo with the Hat-Trick, off the pass by our secondary striker Fernando Uribe)! We were up 3-0 and thought we were cruising, but Cesar Vallejo, showing an insane amount of grit, would definitely make it a game, as Millan scored a goal from outside the box (our keeper got a hand on it, but unfortunately not enough), and then Luis Tejada (off a Chiroque through pass), made it 3-2 with only 10 minutes left in the match! Fortunately, we were able to hold on for the win, even though, with the away goals rule, the return match would be much more difficult than originally planned! Cesar Vallejo showed their mettle despite our win!

Match 2:
Cesar Vallejo (PER) vs Millonarios (COL)

Things would look very nervy for us in this second match back at Peru. We had a slight advantage, but with Vallejo having scored 2 away goals in El Campín, we knew we had our work cut out for us in this match! And it wouldn't start well for us, as Tejada would score a 29th minute header right in between the hands of our keeper to make it 1-0! This was unfortunate, as it gave Vallejo the advantage and if this result prevailed, they would be through to phase 2 of Sudamericana! However, we would respond well in the second half, as a nice move by Yuber Asprilla (freeing himself up from the Peruvian defender in the box) would give him just enough space to boot the equalizer in, making it 1-1 and giving us back the series lead! We knew that one goal by the Peruvians though would give them back the advantage, but still we pressed on forward, creating more chances than them (a missed header by Ovelar in min 85 and a shot from outside by Agudelo), until finally, in min 90, it's Mosquera scoring from outside, sealing our victory and our passage to the next round! Final score: Millonarios 2-1 Cesar Vallejo, we had won 5-3 in the global score, prevailing at the end on the road as well, and we are through to Phase 2 of Sudamericana, where we would be facing.....

PHASE 2
Match 3:
Deportes Iquique (CHI) vs Millonarios (COL)

Next up would be a trip to Chile, to face Deportes Iquique, winners of 3 Copas de Chile (1980, 2010, 2014), and recently promoted from second division, a team in the midst of somewhat of an emerging renaissance! Facing a hostile crowd, Millos knew that even if we were somewhat more talented than the Chilean side, wewould really have to battle it out in this one! After having quite a good number of chances in the first half, it was clear that we were exerting our superior quality on Iquique, and in addition we were denying them chances. Our defense was holding firm! In minute 38, after a corner kick by our Captain Mayer Candelo, a scramble in the box resulted in an Ovelar goal after the Chilean goalkeeper fumbled the ball! Fighting for it, tapping it in! Not the most artistic score, but a goal is a goal, and we were glad to be up 0-1!

1698859258506.png

Yet, as has been the case in Sudamericana, Iquique equalized out of nowhere in min 54, as Rebolledo fed Vargas in the box to make it 1-1. As the second half wore on, we kept playing better (Our #10 Candelo was close in min 62 and 68!), and we really felt like the 1-1 score didn't reflect how we were playing! Thankfully, near the end of the game, it was Fernando Uribe!! Min 87, after a deft little cross by Rafa Robayo, Uribe was able to head it in with an off-balance header, (great job with the body control) and it was 1-2!! The final whistle blew, and it was Millos with a super valuable win in Chile!! We would go back to Bogotá with the advantage, knowing that we had the better team, and that the final score of this game reflected this!

Match 4:
Millonarios (COL) vs Deportes Iquique (CHI)

Coming back to El Campín, our stadium was completely filled with a blue wave of passion and fandom! Pressing our advantage, we came out aggressively, but it was Iquique who scored first, perhaps pouncing on a bit of over-eagerness and over-confidence by Millos! (Min. 10, Vargas receiving the pass from Villalobos)! It wasn't the best start for us, as Iquique were up 0-1 (2-2 global). Fortunately though, we still had the advantage due to the away goal rule, but one more goal by them would've been quite difficult at this stage of the match! Just before the halftime whistle blew, though, it was El Búfalo Ovelar yet again (what a cup he's having!), receiving the through pass from Uribe and finishing to equalize matters! As the halftime whistle blew, it was 1-1, and the stage was set for a dramatic second half, with Millos having a slight advantage..

1698859598093.png
And the second half delivered in terms of excitement! Two goals were featured for each team (Captain Candelo finishing in minute 50 after Ovelar brought down the ball in the box with his head, followed by a lob by Vargas beating our keeper after a long-ball in min 54, our very own Leudo responding with a powerful angled shot in min 68, and Iquique´s Villalobos responding in turn in min 74), and the final score was 3-3 in El Campín! It was a very intense, unpredictable second half of the game, with wild swings, and a very nervous final 15 minutes of the game, as a goal by Iquique would've eliminated us from the Cup! But after this barrage and festival of goals, Millos was able to stand firm and defend, and in the end, the 3-3 score (5-4 global) would see us through to the round of 16, where things would get even more real and there would be a huge jump in quality..... We wouldn't be the favorites in this series: Now Millos would be facing a much stronger team this time, one of the most historical teams in the strongest confederation in South America, none other than........

ROUND OF 16
Match 5:
Inter (BRA) vs Millonarios (COL)

Going to the Red Sea of Inter would never be easy for Millonarios, and this match would really test our mettle in an intimidating and brand-new Estadio Beira-Rio! Even though a good number of Millos fans would make the trip to Porto Alegre, Brazil, thousands of miles away, we were facing one of the noisiest, most passionate fans in all of South America! A huge match against a huge team. Interestingly though, as the initial whistle blew, the match started a bit lackadaisical, as Inter was giving us more possession and seemed content with pressing their superior strength and speed on the counter! Consequently, were handling the ball, but not causing much problems to the Brazilian side, and it would be Inter who would strike first, with Betencourt scoring in min 14 after receiving a perfect long ball from Alex (our defender Stiven Vega should've closed up earlier in that one!) and it was 1-0 in favor of the Brazilians! Inter seemed content with this pattern repeating in the first half, giving us more possession and countering, and as the first half whistle blew, the match still remained 1-0!

1698860405203.png
We tried to come out more aggressively in the second half, and it finally paid off, as in min 64, our Center Midfielder Fabián Vargas received a ball from Yuber Asprilla and we equalized!! 1-1 was the score! Was Inter perhaps resting on their laurels a bit?? Yet only 6 minutes later (min 70), another momentum shift, as just when it seemed like we were in control, it was Betencourt scoring again for Inter, as our keeper wasn't able to control two rebounds in the box and the score was 2-1! (Unfortunate break for our keeper, he really did a good job stopping the earlier two shots!) But still! There was stilll plenty of fight left in us, we would never say never as in min 74, Willy Luango sped down the right flank and fed Ovelar perfectly as he spiked it down with his head (a one bouncer) and it went in! The score was 2-2, and we hoped we could preserve this result as it would be a really positive one going back to Bogotá! But alas, there is something to be said about the Brazilians' quality, which would shine again, as with only 4 minutes left in regulation, Nebra used a bit of his magic to elude two Millos defenders and make it 3-2, the definitive score! It was quite unfortunate, as a 2-2 would've been a really positive result to go back to Colombia, but in the end, it was Inter prevailing 3-2 at their stadium! If there was a silver lining though, is that we had been able to score two away goals, so we would have to try to play our best in Bogotá and wait and see what happens!!

Match 6:
Millonarios (COL) vs Inter (BRA)

Back on the friendly confines of El Campín, we were actually quite optimistic regarding our chances! Even though we had lost the first leg in Brazil, it's not like Inter had dominated us. They were clearly the better side, but we had fought tooth and nail with them and had clawed our way to scoring 2 away goals. If we could just score one goal and protect our lead, this would've seen us through to the quarterfinals! The Brazilians would definitely present a stiff challenge though, looking to make their advantage count! Vut our crowd was with us and we liked our chances! After a very tight first half in which we pressed forward but couldn't produce a goal, we were finally able to break through in min 56, as Leudo received a beautiful long ball, brought it down with his chest and finished!! And things would look even better only minutes later, as Rafa Robayo would score yet again (min 74) off a corner kick by Candelo, elevating perfectly for the header!! With only 15 minutes to go, we were up 2-0 (4-3 global), and on the way to the quarterfinals!

1698861339441.png1698861747594.png
But this woke up the Red Tiger of Inter. They went ABSOLUTELY BERSKERK. I mean, they went friggin' insane. In one of the most impressive comebacks I've seen, in the span of only 4 MINUTES (min 76 and min 80), Inter SCORED TWO GOALS to equalize and give them the advantage yet again! Rafael Moura scoring twice, first from a through ball by Lemos, and then capitalizing on a Mascarenhas assist, and this barrage of goals would qualify them! (2-2, global score 5-4). Are you kidding me?? Friggin insane stuff. It's not like we weren't defending well, they just went on an absolute offensive rampage! But guess what? In true Sudamericana style, there would be one more twist: the drama wouldn't be over.. We knew that we HAD to score, and in one of the strangest, most intense and tipsy-turvy finishes that I can remember, Fabián Vargas scored an ABSOLUTE SCREAMER from outside the box in min 86 to make it 3-2 (global score 5-5)! Talk about a fuckin' crazy last 15 minutes of the game!!!!! We even had a chance to win it all in min 90+4 as Ovelar had a chance that flied over the bar, but destiny was written: After a roller-coaster ending of regulation, the final whistle blew, and Millonarios vs Inter, Copa Sudamericana Round of 16, would be defined by a Penalty Shootout....................

1698862031274.png1698862078696.png
Which wouldn't go our way!! :( After scoring our first two PK's our shooters went completely cold in the last 3, as our 3rd shot by Reina would hit the left bar, our 4th would be kept by the Inter keeper (using Willy Luango, I aimed at the middle), and our 5th by our Captain Mayer Candelo would hit the right bar!! Our Copa Sudamericana run is over against mighty Inter do Porto Alegre (who ended up winning the Cup), and unfortunately our ambition of winning our second Continental title (After 2001 Merconorte) would have to wait another turn!! A very tough loss, especially coming like this when we were up 2-0 with only 15 minutes left to go, but the Brazilian whirlwind of offense, plus an unlucky Penalty shootout, meant that this Cup would end in heartbreak unfortunately!!

This was a crazy Cup, full of twists and turns and momentum shifts!! Took me a while to get used to the bad goalkeeping (even though the gameplay mods and some slight tweaks in stats helped a bit), and if I may say so, a bit of cynical scripting, haha.. But you guys know something? Despite all of this.. I really enjoyed it!! It had been a while since I had played with Millos, and I'm definitely looking forward to playing with my team again! I've played several Millos stories by now, with several results, wins and losses, and it's always great to play with them! In anycase.. Hope you enjoyed this short story, a single standalone Copa Sudamericana, and I will end it with this: We will definitely, most definitely be back!!!!!!! :BSCARF:

@kibaxx7 Thanks bro! I know Millos will be back, I am planning on playing with them in a 3-Stars Cup sooner or later, or maybe even a new Master League! :BSCARF:

I use the built-in program in Windows, I think it's called XBox gamebar recorder (Don't know why it's called XBox but whatever!) :LMAO:

Oh I have that one too! I've been using Fraps, but the quality wasn't so good. I'll experiment with it.

@Holland Thanks bro!! You are definitely right, when you play with your team, the emotions are x1000, so sometimes that affects a bit how you play! I will always say that football is as much an emotional game as anything, and that's what makes it so fun!!

Millos will be back my friend, that is a 100% guarantee!! :BSCARF: :BSCARF:

My friends..
There is something stirring in the City of Sao Paulo,
In the Largest Metropolis in the Americas.
A New Shooting Star, Estrela Azul Paulista
At first overlooked, at first unnoticed,
Is Painting Sao Paulo Blue.
As Their Supporters Grow..
Their Souls Begin to Feel
A Wonder, An Open-Hearted Wonder,
As their Dear Team, the Team of their Closest Affections
Has Finally Arrived in Brasileirao,
Not Just to Win, But To Tell a Story,
A Brazilian Story of How Things Used to Be
Back When Football was Magical,
And How It Can be Again.

What defines a Footballing Giant?
Can it be a team that hasn't won a title in 67 years?
Can it be defined by Worn-Down, Black and White pictures,
Almost as Aged As Their Memories,
Hanging on the Dilapidated Walls
In Remote Peruvian Neighborhoods
With the Aroma of Homemade Chicha Morada and Ceviche?
Or instead, is Greatness defined not by Titles,
by something as ephemeral as a Collection of Trophies,
Television Contracts or Shiny New Stadiums,
But by Something Else..?
What if Greatness is Something Else?
What could that be?
What is a Giant?

Ok guys! Important notice! :TU:

After the introductions of Estrela Azul's continuing tale and my new story, Deportivo Municipal, and given the fact that I have a lot of concurrent stories, I've decided to narrow it down for now to 4 concurrent stories, and 4 only, so that you guys can follow everything more clearly. :)

The stories are linked to their latest update:

Story #1: Estrela Azul Paulista's Third Season, our Brasileirao A Debut, (PES 2021)
Story #2: Werder Bremen's Third Season, we won our Second Season and will be participating in the Champions League, (PES 2009)
Story #3: My Four Musketeers Story, with Okocha, Nakata, Donovan, and Sol Campbell in Bolton Wanderers! (PES 5)
Story #4: Deportivo Municipal's Peruvian First Division Adventure, (PES 2017)

I will definitely stick to these 4 stories for now. Hopefully you guys don't get too lost amongst the shuffle, but I clearly wanted to limit myself to these 4. Now, the stories won't be going in order.. Just to give you an example, I might post a Werder update followed by 2 Muni updates, followed by an Estrela Azul, and then 2 Boltons, etc, but these will be my main campaigns! I'll also include a link in all my future updates, linking to the previous edition of that particular story for easier reference! :BSCARF:

Thanks for following bros!! :)
