car MP3 players

My car is crap and old and only has a really bad radio that doesn't save its settings when you turn the engine off. Rather than buy a new stereo for it, I thought about one of these mp3 players.
I have a Philips 6gb player already and I've heard that if you get an FM transmitter, you can play it through the radio. I've seen some for sale but they all connect to a cigarette lighter socket, which I don't have in the car.
Any solutions?

maru when ive tried to use Radio Transmitters for my Ipod they have turned out shit! bad quality etc.. there are car stereos that have an Ipod Connector so you can get digital quality sound and you can control your Ipod from the stereos controls rather than having them seperately.

It worked fine as he used his Sony mp3 player.
