I've got a thread over at PESFAN, but for you lot here, thought you might be interested in how its progressing. Living only 10mins away I've been eagerly following its progress.

In my opinion, it won't be ready for the FA Cup final. But it won't be far off.

China buying half the world's steel to fund its development has pushed prices sky high. Then theres been lots of industrial action by the workers:roll: and various arguments with contractors.

Many will say 'the stadium has to be good for the money we spent on it'

only 120m of the total cost of around 800m is Public Money, whilst the rest has been privately financed by large banks like Barclays and Deutshe Bank (the irony)

Alot of the pics are large so with link them instead.

I won't post the earlier pics, but there here anyway: http://www.pesfan.com/bulletin/showthread.php?t=93351

With the New Wembley, the Emirates, Old Trafford being extended, Liverpool's proposed new ground and Chelski even potentially moving to Earls Court, England is going to have a pretty impressive set of stadia.

imo they lack some style. They look very similar, and some look like the Sporting Lisbon stadium. I think Highbury was original and had kinda become an icon. If you look at the world famous stadiums, they all have a unqiue and original style.

Im talking about all new stadiums now, except Allianz Arena which is kinda cool.

i agree with milanista, boring stuff for me, especially the arsenal ground will make the club...less interesting (for me at least). highbury just can't be replaced.

most of the criticism of Emirates is that is looks like Da Luz etc. But you'll strugle to find a stadium with Wembley's specs and a 133m arch, that a train could fit through

AA is superb on the outside, but nothing special inside, whilst also lacking in capacity

Ok so its looks similar to Da Luz. What's the problem with that? You will find though that it has a completely different roof design and structure. It will also incorporate many parts of Highbury within.

Also, to everyone who is be-moaning the loss of Highbury, have you been there recently? It is painfully small and cramped. Arsenal need a bigger stadium to continue at the top level.

Its sad that we are leaving Highbury, I will miss it desperately. I have been going regularly for 16 years now and the last game at the place will be emotional but The Emirates is the future and that is what we must look to. Virtually every Arsenal fan I have spoken to is looking forward to the move and most people who have seen the pictures of the new stadium think its amazing. I for one agree and can't wait to sit in there. Going to pick my seat tomorrow!

It will take years to regain the atmosphere of Highbury but everyone has to move on in the end. 38,000 just doesn't cut it anymore at the top level.

I was talking to Maurus some time back, and i remember him telling me that this stadium is based on Da Luz model as the same architect/ construction company or something like that

At the end of the day Highbury was such a fantastic looking ground the East and West stands became bloody listed buildings!

It is a shame to be leaving Highbury but the facilities in the new stadium will be second to none, more fans can get to the games and it will generate the money we need to compete with the big boys.

I'm pretty sure when it's built there will be plenty of aspects to it that will set it aside from the Da Luz.

Once all the finishing touches are on yes it will look fantastic imo. Get the famous sleek highbury pitch in there, and at night with the floodlights on and the stadium lit up etc, it will be fab.

If I was Henry, I'd wait to play in Emirates before moving on ;)

The roof and external look are 100% different to Da Luz, but the internal design is very similar (not a bad thing IMO).

Picked my seat today and am well excited now. The software that gave me a virual view from my seat was shite though, surely Arsenal could have come up with something better than that!

after finally seeing some proper interior pics, and the general impact it has on the skyline too, this stadium pisses on every other stadium on earth from a height beyong the heavens.

    Just AWESOME.

Once the roof support cranes etc are out the way, the construction will speed up. (as you can see it stops the stands from being completed. From the webcam they are lifting alot of the roof finish on.

Just to let you know, those lower stands can be moved back and under in preperation for a stage, for concerts, and a track for athletics if needs be.

St.James's Park is crap because they can't finish it, so therefore it will always look lopsided. CoMs is good though...
