Ok any of you euro travelers or locals from lisbon, I have some questions

1)I want to stay in the nicest, hippest part of lisbon, price isn't an option
2)does anyone know how i can buy tickets to a sporting lisbon match?
3)is the stadium and the area around is a safe place to go?
4)any suggestions on what else i can do while in lisbon?

What do you like gomito#10 nightlife, cafe-bars visiting attractions like the São Jorge Castle? Apartment or Hotel?

Depending on the game you can get your tickets from the stadium or an online company like Ticketmaster, my other half would not let me go to a game when we were last there the other time I was working, and there were no games anyway..

well were going to be there the 11th thru the 15th for our honeymoon, then on to Barcelona on the 16th till the 22 of october. We like good restaurants, cafe-bars, and history... And maybe the beach. Were going to stay in a hotel, but not sure where i should look in lisbon, we want to be in the middle of it all, like if you were in NY you would want to be in mahanttan..

ahh so i can use tickemaster! sweet actually there is not a ticketmaster portgual that i can see

Well, I'm not from Lisbon and have only been in the city a few times, so I don't think I'll be a great help. Anyway:

1) Well, I think the best bet would be the center of the city, probably the downtown, but to be honest I don't really know, someone who lives in the city will be able to clarify this I think.

2) You can buy them either in the stadium or through Sporting's official site (it looks like the english version is unavailable though) as far as I know. Oh, I've checked the fixture list and apparently there won't be any league matches.

3) Well, I've never been to a Sporting match (thank God) but I don't think safety is an issue there. I'm pretty sure you won't find any problems if you eventually go there. A trip to Benfica's stadium would be a better idea though. :DD

4) There are quite a lot of interesting places worth visiting. There's the Park of Nations and specifically the Lisbon Oceanarium. That's a must go in my opinion. Then, if you like history you can visit the Castle of Saint George, the Belém Tower and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos as well as the whole Pombalin Downtown. Lisbon is a really beautiful city, there are lots of interesting places not only in the city itself but also in near places like Sintra, for instance.

Hopefully someone who lives in Lisbon or has been there more often will be able to clarify all this. Anyway, if you have any more questions I'll be glad to try and help you. ;))

Have fun there. :DD

1) Castelo São Jorge, Bairro Alto, Rossio...
2) In a famous Lisbon toilet called Estádio de Alvalade.
3) Some guys with green and white strips shirts could steal you or even kill you.
4) Go to Belém and eat some Pastéis de Belém, beaches in Cascais, Casino Estoril, Sintra (what a lovely place!)...

Congratulations Gomito by the way... Hotels I have stayed at are Bairro Alto Hotel,Lapa Palace, and Fontana Park Hotels, are all central Bairro Alto we stayed just after it was renovated a few years ago and the most central but very very nice. The Lapa is probably the most expensive and the flashest hotel in Lisbon a big honeymoon spot, my sister was here on her honeymoon we checked it out when we were in Lisbon... And the Fontana is a modern boutique type hotel but again very nice.. The center for shops etc is around Sacramento and Santa Caterina the bars run along from the centre to the marina...

You can visit the Benfica Stadium man!!
Benfica , Sporting , Porto , Blackburn and Celtic will play the Guadiana Tournament this weekend but unfortunately it´s not in Lisbon.
You can go to the city beaches very easily and quick with metro and train but i personally suggest the Costa da Caparica ones (maybe 20 minutes to get there by bus), they´re top notch.

One cool place to spend the night is Bairro Alto, loads of little bars with crowds and crowds of people drinking and talking in the streets , really good vibe. If you´re a Jazz fan i definitely recomend you a vist to Hot Clube, it´s a small tight jazz club with something like 50 years of history.

I think you should visit all the main monuments and museums of the city but if you´re into calm, magical and unpolluted places, Sintra (Palácio da Pena and surroundings) is a must!

Very popular and busy during the summer, and the southern end can be a bit seedy at night. It's a couple of years since i was there, but I doubt it's changed too much... The prices are a little higher than other areas and the best bars and places to eat are off the main strip.
Most of central Barca' is pedestrian friendly and a great place to just stroll and take it all in... I'll leave it there as I seem to have gone into tourist guide mode... ;))
