Re: The biggest club in the world?

Recap:

(Counting team title points as stated)
---------------------------------------
1º Real Madrid - 187.5 points
2º AC Milan - 137.5 points
3º AFC Ajax - 120.5 points
4º FC Barcelona - 116 points
5º Liverpool FC - 115 points
6º Juventus FC - 113.5 points
7º FC Bayern München - 110 points
8º Manchester United FC - 87.5 points

(Dividing team title points by two)
---------------------------------------
1º Real Madrid - 113.25 points
2º AC Milan - 84.25 points
3º FC Barcelona - 77 points
4º Juventus FC - 72.25 points
5º AFC Ajax - 71.25 points
6º FC Bayern München - 69.5 points
7º Liverpool FC - 69 points
8º Manchester United FC - 62.25 points

This leads me to thing that there is one team way ahead of the rest, which is Real Madrid, and any reasonable change in the way aspects are measured will have little effect on this. Afterwards there comes AC Milan, also ahead of the rest, and then come a set of teams (Ajax, Barcelona, Liverpool, Juventus, Bayern) that, depending on the weight of their current status, economy, presence and the likes, exchange positions. Manchester United is a step behind all those, despite its great fame and economic power - sports results also count after all, and they pay up here.

It is questionable whether the Champions league should count ten times as much as a National League. Maybe five times could be more reasonable, I don't know. Maybe that needs to be adjusted, and maybe each national league should score two points, and each national cup one. I'll try to post that update later, to see how this affects the list, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Juve, Ajax and Man Utd climb up, and Liverpool, Barça and Milan lose points. :)

Re: The biggest club in the world?

So Ajax are bigger than most? They are in a league where only 3 teams have won it in about 60 years and by this argument, Huddersfield Town are nearly as big as Chelsea.

Re: The biggest club in the world?

Please read my update, but you are free to apply a correction factor to the Dutch league if you want.

...

However, I am inclined to think that a team that has won 29 national leagues, plus 4 European Cups, should be ahead of a team that has won 15 national leagues and 2 European Cups, no matter how important Manchester United may seem now given its economic strength, no matter how more difficult the Premiership is than the Eredivisie. Much more national titles, and twice the European Cups, make it up for a weaker league for Ajax.

Re: The biggest club in the world?

Let me put it this other way:

¿Would you consider that Chelsea is a more important team than Atlético Madrid? Atlético has won a lot of Spanish titles, plus one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and an Intercontinental Cup. The fact that nowadays Atlético is a weak team does not mean that overall, in a hundred years of history, Atlético is a more honoured team than Chelsea, and that during most of that time, its power and strength has been greater than Chelsea's.

Re: The biggest club in the world?

definite need to alter league importance, for instance Glasgow Rangers have 50 league wins + 55 cups and a cup winners cup

Re: The biggest club in the world?

What do you mean by that? That Glasgow should have more or less weight in this table? Remember that Rangers would score (50+55/2)*0.75= 58 points on national title wins, plus 5 more points for having won a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, so their total score would be:

Total National Points: 58.21 points

International Presence (out of 15): 5
Economy (out of 15): 5
Status (out of 5): 2
Other sports (out of 5): 0
Fair-Play (out of 10): 7.

TOTAL: 58.21 + 5 + 5 + 2 + 0 + 7 = 77.21 points (48.1 dividing by two)

That would be very accurate IMHO, because Rangers are far behind these teams, and its score would show exactly that.

I think this is a pretty fair comparison. :)

1. Barça
2. Juventus
3. Chelsea

then if u wanna put the 5 most POPULAR so real madrid is first, but anyway do you prefer a hollywood team or a REAL team :D

Because Madrid got a spanking, doesn't mean their mince, Chelsea got their arse handed to them by Boro, doesn't make them a bad team.

Re: The biggest club in the world?

Especially after Madrid beating Zaragoza's ass 4-0 last tuesday (could've been a lot more, but they came one short from getting through to the final, remember Barça had it A LOT EASIER and did not manage to beat Zaragoza 2-0 the previous round).

Real Madrid is the best team in 2006 - most points won, most goals scored - in Europe. Since López-Caro, Real Madrid is back to stay. Last tuesday's match was AMAZING. When Real Madrid play like that, they're unbeatable. 75% ball posession says it all.

Re: The biggest club in the world?

Well, the richlist of 2006 has been released:

1(2) Real Madrid £186.2m
2(1) Man Utd £166.4m
3(3) Milan £158m
4(5) Juventus £154.9m
5(4) Chelsea £149.1m
6(7) Barcelona £140.4m
7(9) Bayern Munich £128m
8(10) Liverpool £122.4m
9(8) Inter £119.7m
10(6) Arsenal £115.7m

I dont think any team in 2006 got ass raped 6-1.
