Nationality random if not chosen?

If I overwrite WE United, where none of the players have any nationality. And then start a ML, will the players be randomly selected to a country? As one of my players just got chosen for the Italian National team
 
What, the starting players all got a set nationality.. Castolo, for example is always from Brazil, and Libermann is always from Germany...
 
I made my own team, edited all players in the WE United. Are their nationality preset aswell?
