The PC we were given a few months ago is starting to show signs of age. It's taken longer and longer to do things and generally seems to be hanging on for its last few dying breaths.

So as the gf's come into some money from a deceased relative we were looking at buying a cheap pc/laptop.

After looking a cheap pc is basically going to be shite so the next best thing is a laptop - spotted this on tv and my brother recently bought the same one. He says its great - But is it actually any good?

I'm not tech savvy at all - i know 3 gig of ram is great and 160 gig HDD is awesome but the rest ... you may as well tell me it can handle 300 PSL's and divide 20 Gillies faster than a dual core x1z series :SS

For the price is this ok?

Internet browsing - word/excel stuff - probably editing movies in movie maker and erm... at a push running oldish games like C&C generals or sims 2 - no new games like crysis or farcry 2. im not interested in anything like that.

Should be fine for what you want to do, though you might find one a bit cheaper if you shop around.

That's why I didn't post in your thread.

anyone got any opinions on either of these two:

I'm a student so I don't really need anything power hungry, i just want something fast as i'm quite annoyed with my old slow dell. I don't need it for video editing or anything like that, just need it to browse the net, watch films etc.

Not looking to spend more than 600 nor do i want a laptop thats larger than 14.1 inches

The Samsung one has an Intel graphics card, which from my research over the last few days are 1. shit 2. very badly supported with drivers.

The other one has a better graphics card by some distance, although if you can find a laptop with the 8600GT that would be better still (assuming you'd like the option at least of a little gaming or playing HD movies).

so the HP one there wouldnt be able to play HD movies?

doesnt the 3gb ram on the samsung count for nothing?
