With England's slip to 12th, they fall outwith the top 9 European teams. This means they will be in Pot 2 for the WC2010 qualifying draw to be made on Sunday 25th. With Scotland also in pot 2, they cannot meet England in the same group.

They're rubbish really. Always have been and I don't think they reflect true team abilities.

this ranking is about 4 years of results , after eurpo2008 you'll loose points of euro2004 and won't earn any so then you'll drop many places especially if the teams you have under you for now earn points .

Polakis please Greece is crap, they won Euro 2004 with luck, we should have won that, even Maradona said that the Greeks were 100% lucky against us. besides Greece won't even pass the first phase of the competition.
 
Greece weren't only lucky, they won because they were a very organised side as well. Luck can only get you so far. :)

why do I say that ? because this fifa ranking works in a similar way than the league , just read the calculation rules .
most people think the fifa just said "let's put this team here and this one there" .
it's useless to make a thread every month to read the same comments and no one about the calculation rule and the way it should be .
 
You bunch of "i know nothing about everything" why don't you shut up? this ranking is made since the beginning of the Fifa and lets see, how many World Championships/championships did italy won and how many did Argentina? Theres a difference right there.
This ranking is made through years not from what teams did yesterday. If you don't know anything about rules just don't post crap.

I don't quite get who you adress there, the users who say the ranking sucks, or those who made it?
Because Italy is BEHIND Argentina where your analogy should place them way higher.

For me, these revised rankings are at least way more accurate than those from before, though still not all that accurate.
That Argentina and Brazil are up front though playing a rather mediocre World Cup is due to their first and second place in the Copa, after the Euro, where the European teams play their domestic Cup, it'll be more accurate again.

And I'm glad titles don't count all that much, because Brazil could totally stop playing football at all and they'd still be first, second or third for maybe forty years...
Not to talk about those ridiculous Copa-records. How many has Argentina won? 100? :D

Fifa needs to update their rankings to 21st century , we are not living in the past.
