Amalgamate all Retro PES threads request.....

Consider this a last appeal for common sense and pragmatism from my buddy @miguelfcp and myself. We have seen activity on these forums drop off a cliff in the last few months and some threads are posted on a couple of times a week at most.

I would suggest rolling at least ten of the Retro PES game threads into one Retro-Omni thread to to give the PES retro community some chance of survival on the evo forums.

Admins and staff, please be reasonable in considering this request, I am not known for serious stuff normally, but I am most earnest in this matter.

Hey WAMD - looking at the threads, they all offer something different. A "general discussion" thread, a "what's the best game" thread, a "favourite moments" thread - mashing them together will mean some posts that end up next to each other will make no sense.

I don't think doing that will encourage any more posts, either - it's just that time of year, now. The game has been launched, the hype/anger/hype/disappointment/hype/contentment cycle has completed, and there are generally less visitors now until next year.

That's just the new game - in terms of the retro guys, I think there are only a few really dedicated hardcore players (like yourself and Miguel) and visitors to those threads will ebb and flow.

It's just how it is - and like I say, mashing them together would produce something that was a bit of a nightmare to read. We're a PES community, people will come and post again eventually!

Yep i agree with Chris that it is that time of year. Not only the retro thread but also the latest PES and FIFA threads are pretty quiet now too. I think a lot are playing different games and don’t have time for anything else now.

Me personally i don’t play any other games other the footy and just recenty tennis. And i am still pretty busy editing PES. Eventually i will get back to posting in the retro section again.

Likewise i think that posts will get lost if they are all bunched together. Probably best to ‘watch’ the threads you like and continue to post yourself to keep them ‘live’. Even if people don’t reply you may be surprised by how many just read the threads and don’t post. A bit like myself lately ;)

I tend to agree as well, it is just that time of year. For myself I've spent a lot of time editing this year (with Amador and other stuff for myself) and played a lot and I find I always get a case of "Pes Fatigue" at some point, where i just need to take a little break from it before finding myself diving back in again before long. Like Geeeeee though, I'm still reading the threads most days and dipping in when relevant.

I even finally played the PES19 demo but didn't feel a connection with it yet again unfortunately. Much as I love the retro games and always will, I'd love to have one of the new one's give that same feeling but I doubt it ever will unless some new company can come to the party. It's a shame because there's an awful lot to like about the new one but again there's just that certain something missing that the older games have. A sense of unpredictability perhaps? Not sure exactly what it is but that something that keeps you returning for one more game.

As I had told you @WhoAteMeDinner, I also don't think that merging all those threads into one would make much of a difference. In my opinion, the problem goes deeper.
I remember a few months ago trying to start a debate on the Corner thread about what could be done to make retro-PES a more attractive activity, and what could we do as a community to bring more people in. At the time, most responded that we shouldn't worry about that, that retro-PES is in itself a niche so, all in all, we should be happy with the number of people that were already participating - and there were a lot of them, on a daily basis. Now, we're reaping what we've sown: when those users stop posting, the thread dies, because when the Corner was truly popular, we failed to capitalize on that popularity to "spread the word" and seek out more potential retro-PES fans: people who would "carry on the torch" if user X or Y stopped posting, filling in his/their shoes. I feared this, which is why I attempted to start that debate.

As a side note, despite the fact that our thread is uniquely focused on past-PES games, naturally we rely on the modern-PES game to generate activity on Evo-Web, which is good for us as well. What I'm seeing more and more is that the lifespan of new PES games seems to shorten year after year. 10, 15 years ago, the problem me and my friends had was choosing whether to go on playing, for example, PES4 when PES5 came out. Then, we got to a point where a few months after the new year, people got bored with it. Now, I'm baffled when I read that people are selling their PES on October/early November, or even if they don't sell, they lose interest and stop playing. The cycle that @Chris Davies so accurately described is going into overdrive and to insanity levels. I already believe it's absolutely impossible to enjoy even half of what a sports game has to offer in just a year; what about in just 2/3 months? This relationship between gamer and game is not love anymore, it's a tinder fling or hookup at best. It's madness.

Still, once in a while I look at the PES and NBA2K subreddits - important places of communication for fans of the games - and it's a freaking day-care or something. Either it's filled with cute, ironic little videos, or people discussing Level 7 Magikarp - ehm, excuse me, [insert player name here] - on MyTeam/MyClub/Ultimate Team/BaseballMySide/My8Ball. Compelling stories, career saves, intelligent discussion about the game, is nowhere to be found. People just don't give a sh*t anymore, and developers also don't because they keep on buying/spending money on it and playing, developers don't have any incentive to put in more effort on their product. So, as long as these virtual casinos masquerading as sports games keep on profiting, nothing will change.

I have ranted profusely here, but had to show that I'm concerned about this state of things. I strongly believe that Retro-PES is an important and sane last refuge to this insane new world of gaming, and if we don't protect it fiercely, we risk it dying off because it's a mainstream, worldwide, but utterly toxic culture of gaming against the values that we stand for.
