I don't understand a football with deaths...every year is worse..

R.I.P. Morosini,sad to hear really :( I'm shocked,just 26 years old.And you're right,dafuq is going on?FIFA should ofcourse take action.

EDIT:Can anyone confirm he was 26?Because other media here in Greece say he was 25.

These things are pretty much 100% undiagnosed and the players only realise something is up once a heart attack happens. Most of the time it's too late.

FIFA or at the very least the individual confederations need to introduce mandatory screenings otherwise who knows how many more fit and healthy players out there will just drop to the floor with no prior warning?

It's horrible to see it happen and my thoughts go to his family, 25 is absolutely no age to die.

Not to be a dick, but should we not compare the avg heart attack and death for the overall population in that age group, then compare to the amount in all of professional football and then have some context. Maybe after all this is life as we know it... Sad but perhaps true

The heart is a complex organ.

Gross problems can be identified by scans, step tests and checking familial history.

Italy has a pretty stringent set of tests for all young athletes who undergo strenuous examination.

Nonetheless the heart electrical rhythm is inherently chaotic. It needs to be for it to function. However pushing that innate chaotic behaviour in this dynamic system can lead to a rhythm reinforcing ie ventricula fibrillation or completely disappearing.

Tiny variables can cause this. A prior infection can alter the fie structure of the myocytes affecting conduction or undetectable scar tissue.

Or it may a certain isoform of the calcium channels that propagate the conduction in these myocytes. No tests exist thus far to show these up.

To all intents and purposes the said victim appears healthy but something like strenuous activity causes the rhythm to shift.

It's very sad to see another young player succumb like this and even more so considering the tragic nature of what has happened to his immediate family and Livorno Calcio having lost one of their coaches to another cardiac arrest a few days ago.

One thing that associations should look at is reducing the workload of players. These sorts of deaths in football are not new they have happened before but at a slightly lower frequency.

Anyone can have cardiac problems or even a heart attack, some are more prone to it than others due to a variety of factors (physical condition vs. work rate; hereditary vascular problems; and so on). The fact that a handful of players in the middle of thousands of them have such isn't abnormal at all. The problem is that when they happen in the middle of such a demanding physical activity, the chances of surviving are much more reduced.

That said, and like ALBICESTE2010 just said, it's happening more because football is getting faster and faster. It's a much more demanding sport than it was 10/20/30 years ago.

The fact that it's becoming more common amongst the 'big leagues' surely means something. Footballers are a much smaller group of people compared to a whole population, so if it's happening so frequently, something is wrong with the professional sport.

Not much luck in his family. His parents died in his teens and his disabled brother killed himself. Only his sister lives and she's diabled.

maybe to much pressure as well, to much games, it´s becoming a gladiator kind of job... injury and you are finished etc...

I want to believe that this is not a trend, but just a coincidence:Muamba(a speedy recovery)...Morosini...Elejiko(in regioanl liga belgique).
RIP Morosini

Sepp Blatter or Michel Platini is no good at first aid.

This is also my view on it. It's not unusually common, it's just that the coverage makes it more dramatic. This explains it: Availability heuristic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
