Tomb Raider

i was very annoyed with this puzzle in the chasm shrine.
after smashing down the rocks blocking the doghole led to next chamber by the huge pendulum raised up out of the huge hatch, i had no idea what to do next.

at last i solved the puzzle.
i hope this video will help anyone being annoyed with that so that he(she) can save his(her) time.

After I looked at the Conan "review" I decided that it is one of those games that play themselves and all you do as a player is to to follow the instructions on the screen and press the right sequence of keys.

The game looked alright visually, but if it's too packed with those "action cutscene sequences" I will most likely puke on my keyboard and utter a curse in the direction of the gaming industry because they dumb things so much down that the player is hardly "needed" anymore.

Great idea for a new thread. Hardest game you've ever played.

My vote goes to 'Ghosts n Goblins'... Man that mother was tough... and still is!

i agree with you.
fortunately "action cutscene sequences" are unseperated from gameplay in this game.
i mean they are not two but one like an organic body.
cutscene switches to play, and play switches to cutscene very naturally.
now and then you can even control in a cutscene.

I completely agree, really.

I don't want to blame Crystal Dynamics because I just know that these guys are capable of much, much more. It's just that games these days need to appeal to the casual gamers because they need to make sales... In the past it wasn't like that, Tomb Raider was all about the hardcore fans and that was the thing that won the hearts of many people who loved the action-adventure genre.
 
Maybe the beginning of the game has too many of these action sequences, but then it's really more balanced and they are really necessary.

I also liked that collectables were not a chore.

8/10 overall (MP is terrible...).

what games have you been playing these decade?

i couldn't resist puking on my monitor if i installed a previous Tomb Raider right away and played it again.

Wow... that's like saying you can't enjoy a game of PES 3 or PES 5 now. :TTTH:

Anyway, that's my opinion, I'm not saying that you should agree with me, but you do prove my point to some extent, you seem to be a current-gen casual gamer who can't stand the old hardcore TR games because they're too sophisticated and perplexing in some aspects compared to the dumbed down games made for today's young lads to enjoy (a bit of an exaggeration, I know).

But hey, no problem, I'll try to refrain from posting my nostalgic rants from now on.

real hardcore ever than former versions of TR series were for children.

"Hardcore" has nothing to do with porn or PEGI, Marth... It has everything to do with difficulty and steep learning curves as opposed to blood, gore, sex and nudity.

Bullshit. :D The 18+ rating is because of the blood/gore and foul language, not because the game is difficult, the older games required the use of your brain way more often and that's the reason they aren't for everybody.

BTW, could anyone point me to the best offer for a digital copy of the game?

That was easy.
 
yep, puzzles themselves were easy.

but i had a handicap.

i had to feel double or triple pains on the thumb & arm when turning each crank wheel by pressing X fast & repeatedly.

my cheap 3rd party controller has terrible key delay.

maybe the big pains pissed my brain off and killed some neurons then.

Tomb Raider story finished. Surely a contender for my GOTY 2013, such a brilliant game.
 
I enjoy it better than hitman & sleeping dogs.. actually finished it 65%.. Gonna finish the other 35% soon.. I am lazy enough to finish the other 2 games though.. :p
 
I haven't played this yet but I know from the videos etc there's no way I'll like this better than Sleeping Dogs, I like open world games far more than linear ones :)
 
Definitely 2013 GOTY by far up to now. I like the game design a lot even if it's mostly linear, it feels very good to play and looks beautiful. I like the way they redefine the main character.
 
hmmmmm, do I go for it?

Maybe have a look at it, mind you i've not played the last 2 or 3 games. So maybe do a quick look at Youtube and get the story out the way.

Think I'm on about 74% done. Will try and get all the collectibles and tombs done too.
