    On-board high-definition sound
    Viewsonic 19" LCD (VS10867)
    Logitech MX550 gaming mouse

Need a new graphics card but they're all way too expensive for me, considering that I only use the PC for Photoshop, website designing and browsing Evo-Web (plus I'll be playing Football Manager 2008 when it's released). It does the job - although I need a new mouse.

I bought this mouse and an "Icemat" so that I could do my graphics work with more precision and after 12 months it's a waste of time, moves about three pixels at once no matter how slowly you move the damn thing.

^Why don't you get a WACOM Graphire tablet. Nothing beats them when it comes to graphic work. Ive used it a couple of times, and it's brilliant.

@Peter Eyres, take my advise, get some good PC26400 DDR2 RAM. Ive used the cheap 667Mhz RAM, and it just becomes a bottleneck for me. And you could get an 8800GTS 320MB and save some cash, because you'll only need the extra memory if you plan to play at crazy resolutions above 1600x1200.

E6600 core 2 duo @ 2.4Ghz (had it upto 3.6Ghz, but why bother?)
    2GB crossair 800Mhz DDR Ram
    BFG 8800GTS OC 320MB
    MSI 650i SLI Mainboard
    1 x 320GB Hitachi Sata II
    1 x 250GB Hitachi Sata II
    1 x 200GB PATA maxtor
    1 x 160GB PATA maxtor
    Creative X-fi Gamer sound card
    DVD+-DLRW drive

All air cooled CPU runs at pretty much room temp, Chipset runs between 40-45 C

I wouldnt put another 8800 card in as they run very warm, and i could see putting one in without investing in a new cooling system making my pc very unstable.

Not that i need to bother as it runs everything sweet as a nut.

^Awesome config, what speakers do you have with the Audigy 4? Also, what cabinet you have. I am looking to buy an 8800GTX, but it won't fit in my Super Lanboy.

I'm only using high quality Sennheiser headphones at the moment, had some troubles with one of my twat neighbours some time ago

My cabinet is a black CoolerMaster Centurion 534, wasn't that expensive, around ~60 Euro. The GTX fits in just fine.

Hmmmmm, did some digging on the CoolerMaster. Not only does it look cool, you won't need a screwdriver either. And it has a blue neon glow, that would look perfect on my other black with blue glowing things ^^.

You could either get a hardware fan controller or try a software like SpeedFan to adjust the rpms.

just completed the build last night - managed to buy the motherboard on ebay for £137 including postage. not bad considering it is over £200 on ebuyer.

i also upgraded the PSU at the last minute from my order at ebuyer. i went for the all-singing, all-dancing Hiper 5th Gen 770W Type-R PSU - With 4x Integrated USB Ports, 4x PCI-E, 4x SATA.

    now to start building!

i've got a 500gb mybook maxed out with music (75000 songs), with about 20gig to spare.

i've also got about 800 divx movies, best of 70s, 80s, 90, 00s, and new releases.

i had a gaming pc and a media pc, so i decided to combine them and sold them both this week. think i went a bit low on my gaming pc as you can see here:, but hey, it's done now...

also, is there any benefit AT ALL in having 2 8800GTXs at this particular moment in time? i'm pretty much preparing for Crysis, that's why i'm building...

    Had a little upgrade myself.

    Processor: Core 2 Quad Q6600
    Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DQ6
    Speakers: Logitech Z-5300
    Cabinet: Coolermaster Stacker 830
    HDD: 2 x 750 GB Seagate

Was about to buy an 8 series graphic card, but 2 things changed my decision

(plus the fact that I would be completely broke if I did buy one)

Also ordered some water cooling stuff from sidewinder. Would be interesting to see how far I can take the Q6600 with the new G0 stepping.

@Spunk_of_MJ, After seing the AnandTech article, 8800GTX in SLI, might just be enough for Crysis. As you can see, the performance is pretty poor in DX 10 games. It might be poorly optimized code, but still, I expect better from a card like that. Anyways, nice rig there though I would have gone for a P35 chipset.

i wish someone had warned me the q6600 was gonna drop in price by over £100 on the 22nd july!!

i'm sorta gutted too, that i missed the info on the G0 stepping - i guess more research is needed in the future, although i'm pretty confident that mine will reach 3.2Ghz easily enough. that will teach me to have a bit more patience instead of wanting it all now!

the motherboard i got can hook up 4 video cards, so i'm sure i'll not be needing the new 9800 card when it releases in november. especailly considering it will probably retail for about 700 quid here in rip-off-uk...
