PES 2011 Demo impressions

All in all did you feel "satisfied"?

Best way to describe my feeling is having your ex girlfriend (who betrayed you several times three years ago) standing on your doorstep with a new set of boobies. Maybe good for a quick one, but can't see it turning into a long relationship.

All in all not so satisfied.

Keep in mind that I've been a proud Evo-web member since the glory days in 2002 so my core is a total PES fan, but the next gen PES hasn't pleasured me yet. Maybe next year...

Some more cons:

- Player switching is sometimes total chaos, giving the wrong man three times in a row
- the demo has this 5 minute trailer after every game. EVEN if you select Return to top menu in the 89th minute.
- Goalkeepers do strange things:
GK standing at penalty spot when a cross comes straight to him and he retreats to his goal line only for a striker to score.
After the GK blocked a powerfull shot the ball bounces back into play multiple yards away from him and he runs after it like a headless chicken...

I have a feeling in my lefty that this will fall short for me. The passing sounds as though it's a lot better but the momemtum of the players just doesn't look right. I suppose it will depend if it feels better and less stuttery as I've hated the last few games.
I will however give it a good go as just watching videos means fook all but Scorps, I like your style in FIFA so I'm confident what you are saying will be a true reflection.

PS. My ex-girlfriend is now my wife so ya never know!

Thanks for your honesty Scorpio. You're still the king of OF's in my book.

Djeez, very surprised you still remember that Milanista! Yep those were the glory days, editing the whole database and sharing it here for everyone to enjoy. I even remember PESFAN stealing my option file from here and putting it up on their site and telling everybody it was theirs and banning me for life!! Man was I pissed!

Big thanks for your kind words!

My guess is you won't love this then, it's an improvement from the last couple of years, don't get me wrong. The feel just isn't there for me.

Still it's only a demo. We'll see when the full game comes out.

PS: Best regards to your wife ;) :JAY:

some questions for demo users :

- what exactly is different comparing MLO beta and demo?
- is there option to link feints in demo
- how's ball control now? different from the beta? turning with players, stuff like that?
- how's new defending style working? (back+x to jostle back, forward+x to challenge)

If someone kan find out how to skip that annoying video after each game, that someone will be my hero ;)

Firts impressions: (not played MLO-beta)
-Great to feel the freedom of passing!
-Fysics are great, bumping in is far more realistic and being punished by the ref
-you can now see AND feel the difference in skills between those of nacional and those of barca

conclusion:
it feels like football, more than ever before!

Are the controls detailed on the demo?

I'm a former Fifa on 360 player, so I may not quite be up to speed with thE PES demo.

any tips etc?

Thanks

Trust me mate, don't judge speed from the videos. The difference between -2 and +2 is ridiculous. I think 0 is to fast, -1 seems about right.

Yes, usually videos from cams do look faster. However, I've also seen quite a bit of ping-pong passing. Thats what I truly HATE about FIFA (Haven't played PES since PES6), I was hoping not to see that in PES.

I really need to try the demo for myself.

Played the demo and was very underwhelmed at first. Then I turn the speed up and the animations and everything else looked smoother. The default speed makes this game feel sluggish and boring.

One thing I'll tell you is that the game's graphics aren't all that great as some make it out to be. The "other" game's graphics are by-far better and more realistic. I would have much prefered PES2010's graphics with this game.

Another thing that's KILLING!!! this game for me is that same piece of crap crossing animation that ALL players do. I mean there are no other crossing animations other than that unrelistic one. I can't understand this really.

Automatic heading/kicking when clearing from defense is still there.

Passing is definately much better than previous versions. Shooting is good. Heading seems the same to me as PES10. Animations are sometimes great, sometimes bad and unrealistic. GK's are much improved. It still feels like PES at it's core, but it's by no means a quantum leap in my opinion.

Stadiums like the Nou Camp look nice, but are still missing lots of real life details. You really don't get that feeling that your playing in the Nou Camp as you do in the other game.

The game is fun and a bit more free, but it's not at that level just yet.

- Its like night and day, the MLO beta looks and feels poor in comparison. If you half liked the beta, you will adore this.

- Yes.

- Everything is so smooth, silky smooth, animations are so much better everywhere and graphics are gorgeous. Turning is miles better.

- Still cant do the X and back defending yet, but the rest is the same, just 'feels' beautiful. Pace seems better, ball physics better, a nice bobble on passes hit longer. Seriously, it's incredible.

Negatives - Clipping still apparent in odd replays, but nothing to worry about. Seen the odd animation that didnt look right, but thats it.

thanks for answers Jimmy,

huge request guys :

I saw a list of tricks somewhere in controls options in demo (on stream), can you make screenshot of that list or just list them? I'm super curious how many tricks are there

Played 20 or more games on most difficault level and i am not impressed at all :( feels like old Pes 2010 with ,,new'' and still robotic animations :(
Scoring goal doesnt make happy and still same goalkeepers bugs. Seems like most important skill in game is speed and body balance - similar to Fifa10 :( I will try demo again in the night but this game is not what i wanted :(

My early impressions

Ok, I've played 5 matches. All on Professional apart from one on Top Player which i lost 4-0!

I’m really liking this game. Feels great, balance from what I’ve seen so far is very impressive. It’s not perfect or the best game ever, but it’s the best football out there currently and I’m certainly not going back to an pervious titles anytime soon!

The animations are very good; there are two sides to them really. The smooth, solid, fluid ones which give the game the current gen (PS3 feeling) My only criticism is that they look a bit too casual at times, could do with seeing a few more aggressive and sharper animations in terms of making the game look better so there room for improvement definably but the most important thing is they feel as if they are all contextual and represent a football player.

The other side to them in terms of player weight, foot placing, momentum, turning speeds is the best I’ve seen in any football game! Even after five games I can see his is one of the games strong points, so many players feel different in terms of their movement, the first thing i noticed playing with Barca was Pique felt like a huge center back unlike Messi and Iniesta who could make nice subtle movements Pique simply couldn't dream about.

There are niggles though, nowhere near game killing but noticeable. The bicycle kick animation is still too fast, the rare strange moment here and there. Goalkeepers apparently can have their casual moments (not happened to me yet) but on the whole they have been fantastic and I'm looking forward to showing you one amazing save the Chivas keeper made!

The passing I’ve been saying is a real challenge now, the most impressive I’ve seen in any football game again! It's taking me time to adapt to how the game works and using the depth of options available. Because of this solid AI in terms of formation positioning, requiring you to be a lot more creative than ever before to play through teams. You have to make the right decisions whether to use the normal semi assisted passing or manual pass, through balls however are pretty powerful (It’s not on rails or anything but I'd advise people to use the manual pass for short layoffs into space).

When attacking have to really focus on where you’re passing and who you’re passing to. You need to plan a move in your head (vision/creativity skills) or adapt to the players making runs into space and find openings. It's not simple. Players won’t always be in space. You have to make use of any space you see in attack.

In terms of physical play it's again, impressive. Jostling feels natural but, it's the tackling system which is the real star. It's a very similar system to PS 5 which requires you to time pressing the 'X' Button rather than just hold x and wait for the CPU to do the rest. the angle and timing you go in for a tackle is crucial. it takes a while to get used to and expect it to be like PES 5 where the ref gets very whistle happy!

I'm not used to doing write ups and I’ve only covered a few area’s here will be more to come but for now, so far so very, very good.

Hope to talk more about tactics and individuality which I’ve already have seen to be to an great standard.

What, have you found an abusive formation already or something. I swear with reviews like this, your going to have to post some videos. You must be playing a different game to me. On my first few games the Sprint button seemed useless to me!

If feels nothing like PES 2010 at all. It's a totally new game! I played a shitload of PES 2010 aswell so I'd know if they felt siilar!

Or maybe he's putting it on regular!

Pro's about the demo:

- Defending is not magnetized like in FIFA 10, it's a true skill
- Freedom of play is the right term to use by Konami, the passing seems non scripted (except for the crossing which feels like assisted)
- I can imagine scoring beautifull goals with this game, everything can happen in front of goal
- Turning with the ball at feet is very realistic, it takes time to shift you weight and go the other direction.

Con's:
- Players look like their dead selfs, Zombie look-a-likes
- The referee has NEVER heard of advantage when a foul is commmited, he ALWAYS blows his wistle, even if your through on goal.
- After EVERY foul there's a replay of it, really annoying
- Played on Top player and the AI CPU sometimes doesn't know what their doing, turning when clear on goal, going the other way when another teammate is absolutely free on the other side, etc
- Still feels kind of robotic, can't put my finger on it as to how this happens (in replay everything looks smooth but in-game it's not)

sounds interesting but the smoothness of the game will be forgotten on a midrange pc running it nice and smooth.

i'l give it a go myself. i am also a PES fan from back in the PS one days and i hated PES6 upwards.

Do u find the game "fun" to play?

Played a few games and it still feels like the slightest step back from the version I played, I am loving playing it, just to me the passing seems just a slight bit faster on the demo, which I think I like better actually in certain instances and the control on the game I played last Friday just felt a little tighter and better for it.

I have mentioned the keepers, on this they are making the saves but seem to be parrying more than they were last week.

Interesting when the full game comes out.

i thought u played the final build ie same build as this demo?

I've played a few now on the demo. Really enjoying it until i decided to try what i ALWAYS do since PES2008...try the score direct from a corner bug....guess what happened?

YouTube - PES2011 Demo GK bug

Oh dear.....this was the very first time i tried for the bug. I hope it doesn't happen very often as corners will be almost as good as a penalty online.
