Microsoft Windows 10

Well, I am have been using Win10 for almost 3 months now and I am fine with it. It seems like it sometimes has mind of its own in case of installing updates, but if that doesn't bother you than you should be fine. You'll probably notice quite a boost in performance, as I did when I upgraded from Win7 to Win8.

you've made upgrade or clean install of win10?

I've made and upgrade at first. Than I bought new HDD at the begining of September when I did cleans install of win10

I wanted to do clean install anyways, just to clean all the rubbish that gets on HDD through everyday usage, but I waited until I got new HDD in, so that I don't have to do the same thing inside few weeks.

Doing clean install on Windows 10, at least for me, was a pleasant surprise. It was never that easy to do clean install of an OS. I just put my DVD in, install started and after 3-4 restarts I had PC ready to go with drivers for all devices installed. All that I needed to do is to adjust settings as I like them and install all the 3rd party software that I use.

The best thing to do is always a clean install of the OS, just a pain to start with Windows 10 needed to do an upgrade over a clean install to start.

Just make sure you don't disable Cortana as otherwise you will notice other things won't work correctly on the system.. But disable everything else.

having microstutter with nba 2k14 and thin white frame around the screen in pes 6 after upgrade from win7... anyone with the same issue?

i did a clean install but didn't have time to check those two games yet.

I am considering a possibility of switching back to Windows 8.1. I am happy with Windows 10, it works smoothly and that is all fine, but I just can't stand its forcing of driver updates even after I have speciffically choosen for it not to do so in settings. It constantly removes AMD graphics drivers that I have downloaded and installed from AMD site (version 15.7.1) and installs some other version after which my system becomes unstable. It randomly freezes and I can recover only via reset button on my PC case. If I am lucky it only freezes for few seconds after which I get a notification that "Graphics driver has crashed and recovered".

no, you can't... you must edit registry or some things in administration tools... i had the same problem like cuky...

but my main concern is that i have stuttering in nba 2k14, one of the games i play the most, for me it's a deal braker with this windows... also i think battlefield 3 is running little worse than on windows 7/8.1.

I have no performance issues (but that is almost certeanly because I upgraded my hardware a bit as well) but that with drivers is just grinding my gears tbh.

There is a setting where you can opt out of automatic driver updates but it seems not to work for me.

I have no problem with auto updates for the OS, I always installed them anyways on previous versions.

As for drivers, on both links they show the same way to disable auto update for drivers and that is the same one I have already tried on my PC. But as I have described earlier Windows keeps downloading drivers for my graphics card even though I told them not to and I am happy with how my PC runs using drivers I downloaded from AMD site.

Tried that too. Worked fine for my printer, but does nothing to prevent Windows to auto update graphics drivers even though both updates show as hidden.

I have tried to install drivers manually without deleting those that Windows has downloaded and for now it seems to work (2 days now). I'll see in the next few days what will be going on.

well, in my case preformance issues are what makes me think returing to windows 7 or 8.1. and i'm sure it's not hardware related because same games run ok in previous windows version, it's something in windows 10 code or the drivers. which is also wierd since it takes less resources than 7 or 8.1.

Maybe some drivers are at fault? I have had some problems with my drivers as my MBO is quite old (ASUS P5B) and I can't really find drivers for it that are written for Windows 10 so I am using those that Windows has automatically installed when I installed them.

Well i finally bit the bullet and installed windows 10 on my Media PC and i'm very impressed.

It looks better, its easier to navigate and seems a lot quicker.

I need a new graphics card though because i'm forced to run very old catalyst drivers to get Kodi working and they aren't compatible with Windows 10.

So new GFX card here we come...

Oh yeah for the record i did a upgrade because i couldn't be arsed with a fresh install so i'm gonna keep hold of the old installation (25.7gb) which is in disk cleanup for a while :)

Lami did you end up with a fresh install on your Lenovo? That's my main PC i use so am wary about upgrading that.

Windows 10 Fall Creators edition has now been launched.

If anyone games in Windows 10 the FALL update has been significantly improved for Gamers.

Many games using Windows 10 Fall edition, compared to Windows 10 will see an increase of up to 25% in FPS.

Is there anyway to get it other than through Windows Update? I've completely disabled Windows Update service, because it kept messing up my system.

Google is your friend Chuny, embrace it!

Thank you very much Hawke! You've been very helpful. Going to try it tonight.
There was an instant Flash Player update via windows update just after I installed the fall update so you might want to look for that as well mate.

So has anyone seen a boost in gaming with the update?

I haven't really noticed anything, but then I didn't do a comparison before and after.
There are videos on YouTube where people have shown side by side comparisons, and show a 20% increase in frames.

Trying to update from this version:

And it fails with this error:

C: is an SSD with a single partition and >100gb space

Event viewer isn't showing anything helpful that I can see, under WindowsUpdateClient it shows:

"Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709"

Under Windows update it shows:

I ran SFC /SCANNOW and it reported "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

I checked WindowsUpdate.log and it doesn't seem to be showing anything useful, lots of "Uknown GUID entries" whatever that means and the only variation is:

Tried twice and it's failed both times. Really need some help please!

Just tried a third time, I removed all USB' except my mouse and tried the update via Windows10Upgrade9252.exe and it failed again in the exact same way
010.png

Unfortunately that's not relevant to me as I get the error post boot/pre desktop and shift+F10 does nothing at that point as I'm not actually in windows at the time I get the error :(

Thanks anyways.

Thought possibly it was a permissions problem as unlikely as that'd be so tried running the updater from the built in admin account rather than my own account which is set as admin but that made no difference.

Have you tried downloading the Windows 10 update using the Media Creation Tool?

I have installed a few updates from the web and they failed, but using a USB with the OS works.

Before using the USB though, make sure you run disk cleanup and select 'Clean up system files' and tick everything as it will remove all the previous Windows 10 updates and the corrupted installer.

This way should install the OS without any issues - It is also the way I updated my system for testing, before I did a full clean install.
