FIFA 08 Manager Mode Adventure Thread

You should put your replays on Youtube/dailymotion, much more stable and reliable, pretty simple to do:

Download the flv from Easportsworld.com, (it will be in a propietary EA version of FLV so it needs converting).

Convert to flv or swf using "Ultra Flash Video FLV Converter" (only converter I found so far that will convert them).

Upload to youtube or daily motion (for better quality)

Voila.......

Also by doing this you can keep your 5 upload spaces cleared for when you need them ;)

Saints 1 - 0 Tottenham (League Cup Semi Final, Leg 2)

Next fixture and last of January, Sheffield Wednesday home and first game in February is round 4 of fa cup vs blackpool home aswell :D

And Saints are on their way to cup glory, but I got Manchester United, Great :( Haha.

OOOOh, OOOOh and I just checked my rating is 3 stars now haha!

Your playing on what level cause its seem to be easy for you to win games...and with the saints its kind of unrealist.

Yep, thats what I thought, we have a great side, but play shite, but thats reflected in our stats, our poor 2 and a half stars is dissapointing, we should have atleast 3 default, we are one of the best teams, but play poo haha.

But doesnt matter, Ive got them to 3 stars now :D Haha!

So after the encouraging performance but disappointing result of our first game the next one was a home game against Colchester, despite wanting to build some first team consistency and form I was concerned about tiring out my players too early in the season so decided to rest the whole outfield 10, my starting lineup was thus:

Code:
    Grant

Watson Hinds Bullen Gilbert

Johnson Folly Lunt O'brien

      Tudgay Clarke

The hardest choice was who to play at RB and who to play at CB, Watson and Bullen can both play RB but they don't really have the legs for that position anymore, Hinds supposedly can play RB but on talking to him about playing there I wasn't too impressed with his attitude and felt that if I played him there I would get about 15-20% less from him than if I played him at CB, so I decided to go with Watson at RB and Hinds and Bullen at CB.

The match kicked off, the one thing I told my players before the start was that I wanted them to keep control of the ball early doors, try to pass it around and be patient with the ball, watch how Colchester respond to us keeping the ball and see if holes appear in their defence, well I must say the team really listened to me, we started really brightly and passed the ball around really well in the early minutes, Colchester hardly got a touch, in the 9th minute a wonderful, flowing passing move which start with Watson at RB ended in Clarke playing a lovely 1-2 with Folly resulting in a low pass putting him clean through, Clarke had 1 touch to control it, a 2nd to get it out of his feet then bang, bottom right corner, keeper had no chance, our first goal of the season and Clarke's first of the season, great for the big lad who always needs a confidence boost as he has that kind of personality.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=f910e9oaSlo

(better quality daily motion version)

Clarke was clearly buzzing and it showed in the rest of his play, 3 minutes later a Johnson cross from that right was met with a towering header by Clarke but unfortunately the ball crashed against the left hand post and Colchester cleared it to safety. Later on in that half Clarke had another header crash off the other post, he could have had a hattrick and the game would have been ours......

Unfortunately the rest of the half went downhill from there and Clarke's performance was the only real bright note, Clarke's goal and escape on the post stung them in to action, our defence was caught ball watching as they had it to the right of our goal, Watson didn't close down their winger fast enough, ball's crossed in, Grant's rooted to his line, Lisbie heads it into the net, 1-1.

less than 10 minutes later an almost carbon copy, cross from our right, Grant rooted to his line, Lisbie heads in, 1-2 to Colchester.

To say I'm displeased would be an understatement, to be leading 1-0, hitting the post, then suddenly you're losing 2-1 is a gutting feeling, unfortunately for the Owls fans it's a feeling they know only too well, but credit to them they didn't stop singing throughout the half.

I urged my team forward as despite the fact some of them seemed to be playing with shellshock I really though we could get at Colchester and equalise before half time, perhaps that was a mistake on my part as we pushed up too high, Colchester counter attacked, my defenders played a very poorly timed offside trap that failed miserably and their forward ran clean through to score into the empty net, 1-3 Colchester :(

Half time.

My substitution options were limited, a number of players on the bench were still fatigued from the first game so I decided to make my changes with the players that were already on the field, I switched Bullen to RB and Watson to CB, O'brien to CM and Lunt who I felt had been weak in the centre to LM, upfront I switched Clarke and Tudgay around, which meant that Clarke was playing on the right of the two and would be dropping a little deeper at times to receive the ball as Colchester clearly could not handle him the way he was playing today.

Second half kicks off, the changes seem to be working well, cross comes in from the left, Clarke is under heavy pressure from a defender but he manages to get his head on the ball and it loops over the keeper into the top right corner, 2-3, now we're talking, something we can build on......

Unfortunately this again spurred Colchester into life, they attacked down the right and Bullen showing his age responded far too slow to the danger, a combination of Grant and Watson cleared the ball to safety.

We attack again, ball is fed through to Tudgay, he turns and shoots on goal, their keeper saves it but can't hold it, ball falls to Clarke, bang, goal, 3-3, Clarke jumps to celebrate, the fans jump to celebrate, I jump to celebrate, the wife celebrates but struggles to keep her Tablet PC on her knee as she's trying to work beside me!

We're back on terms, I decide to take off Bullen, bring Wood on at CB and move Hinds over to RB, he's going to play there and that's that, if he doesn't give me a performance there will be words after the match.

We're in complete control for the rest of the match, the equaliser knocked all of the spirit out of Colchester but unfortunately we just couldn't get a winner.

Final score 3-3, at 1-3 down I would have taken that so there's no point being greedy, a Leon Clarke hattrick is a good start to the season.

Next match, QPR away, I felt we could get something from that but unfortunately I was wrong, QPR go 2-0 with 2 soft headed goals, we manage to pull one back late on with Jeffers' first for the club, a typical "fox in the box" tap in at close range after a pullback from the left. Unfortunately Clarke was nothing like the player of last week and he was substituted in the middle of the second half.

After the first 3 matches we have only 1 point and are in 21st place, the board have already told me they won't stand too many more mediocre results and my performance has to improve, a little harsh I felt after only 3 matches but Sheffield Wednesday aren't exactly known to show patience with managers......

Next match is 24th placed Coventry at home, we're both on 1 point so we really could use a win to get our season started properly.

On a more worrying note, we still haven't heard from Rocky Lekaj or his brother Leon, the club are trying to contact relatives in Kosovo and Norway to see if they've heard from either of the brothers. If anyone has heard anything please contact the club immediately, a video about the Lekaj brothers can be found on Youtube:

Oh dear :(

Sheffield Wednesday 1 Coventry 5

We took the lead as well but a Kyle first half hat-trick soon changed things.

For some reason the media thought I'd had a narrow win, not sure what match they'd been watching......

Fortunately the next match is another home game, unfortunately it's against WBA who're a strong team but currently just 1 point and 1 place ahead of us in 23rd place to our rock bottom! Can winless Sheffield Wednesday turn it around and give new manager Statham the first win he's looking for......

So as usual we score first only to concede, Jermaine Johnson got his first goal of the season with a header from a chipped through ball, Craig Beattie equalised with a shot from close range after a powerful run, we started with a 451, Folly and Kavanagh playing as DM's to protect the back 4, Whelan further up in support of Clarke the loan striker, Sodje was playing as LW making runs into the box from deep. Second half we seemed to be controlling play so I switched to 442, bringing on Jeffers for Sodje, Jeffers almost put us in the lead with a low 20 yard drive but it just hit the side netting with the keeper clawing air.

Then in the 79th minute disaster strikes, Simek gets a challenge all wrong in the box, penalty, just what we needed! Up steps the reliable Kevin Phillips, Grant looks nervous, ref blows his whistle, Phillips runs up......

After the match there was a new memo waiting......

Now I am really used to the game I decided to start a Manager Mode. I have chosen PSG and I play on 'professional' difficulty. I started my league last night and played a few matches.

Paris Saint-Germain appoint new coach for 2007-08 season

The new coach doesn't waste any time and signs Chelsea & Brazilian centre-back Alex on a free transfer who chooses the vacant number 14 jersey.

Plymouth 1 - Sheffield Wednesday 4

Finally the first 3 points of the season :)

Jeffers deservedly wins man of the match with a hat-trick, first a penalty then the other two were typical poachers goals, the 4th was a crashing left foot volley by Kavanagh after a corner was flicked on.

The board tell me if results continue like this my future is secure, although the next match is at home to Charlton so that will be tough.......

LOL! was drawing 0-0 with Charlton, playing really well and the damn thing froze on me :(

Don't know if this is a bug that will cause it to freeze again, but word of warning, if you're man marking a forward, and the AI substitute that forward, going into team management and click the defender in the man marking screen may make the game freeze :(

I'm playing Birmingham in my 5th match of the season and all their players are wasted already at the start of the match.

Not much fun to play them now, it's like playing on amateur. Is this only occasionally?

Upgrade your fitness staff to as high a level as you can afford, 5/10 or over and you should see a massive improvement once they all get fit again. If you can afford more than that then even better.

After reading this page i cant wait to play more of my manager mode.......shame ive got so much uni work to do. Will try to finish the season today or tommorow and then post the season review. :D

Back to work :(

I am talking about the opponent's fitness level;)

But the reason probably was a midweek cup match for every team.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 0 AUXERRE 0

A packed Parc De Princes witnessed an exciting goaless draw with the home side dominating play. An Auxerre shot hitting the bar just after the interval did not seem to shake the confident looking side from the capital. PSG threw everything at Auxerre in the final 10 minutes but it wasn't enough and to make matters worse, a Pauleta tap-in was disallowed on the 89th minute because of a poorly judged off-side decision.

Pauleta celebrates only to find out his goal is disallowed.

PSG - 6th place - 11 pts.

Need to update this at some point, I'm still in the job, results improved quite a lot (despite a humiliating league cup exit to a League 2 team), Jeffers already has 18 goals in 15 matches, most typical fox in the box affairs ;) Leon Clarke is proving to be my special goal, err specialist, he's 10 goals behind Jeffers in 2nd place but he's proving an excellent strike partner, here's a couple of the nicer Clarke efforts of recent matches:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YHNGn3S_Mr0

Good example of passing and teamwork in this flowing move, Whelan hold up the ball, passed to Esajas, to Kavanagh, to Clarke, first touch away from the defender before blasting into the top corner.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9x8DPHzXVDE

Leon uses his strength and power to win the ball, hold off his marker and blast the ball in low from distance.

Caen 0 Paris Saint-Germain 1

An early goal from the impressive Luyindula saw the Parisian club take all three points.

19777.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain 1 Nice 0

Even though the home side totally dominated the game the club's veteran Porugese striker Pauleta scored the only goal. He also won the 'Man Of The Match' award and his goal saw PSG climb to third in 'Ligue Un'.

Guys, what's the deal with contract renewals? I 've tried renewing contracts and they're being turned down. I'm offering improved wages and all. Any ideas?

No idea mate, I'm not that far in the season yet. Sorry. :)

AS Nancy Lorraine 0 - 2 PSG

A positive PSG team totally dominated the game and saw the powerful striker Luyindula score both goals. PSG go sixth in the table after this result.

Well Le Havre have won the title in Ligue 2.
They promoted to League 1 together with Reims and Guegnon (not very realistic that).
Valenciennes, Lens and Lorient got relegated.
The fact that none of my players was in the Ligue's team was something of a letdown. And that for a team who the league with a 17 point margin on the second and who provided the top scorer...

In the transfer window Le Havre got two new players: Turkisk right back Taroman and Argentinian left midfielder Datolo.

The results so far in ligue 1:

Bordeaux - HAC 0-1
HAC - Sochaux 0-0
Reims - HAC 1-1
HAC - Strasbourg 1-0
Rennes - HAC 1-1

Scoring seems more difficult in Ligue 1, which is a good point.
On the other hand i'm beginning to feel the flaws in FIFA08: there is scarcely a difference between teams. And (what annoys me more): there isn't a big difference between players...they all "feel" more or less the same...
Those two things are much better in PES and they are quite important to me.
In PES if you buy a new player, you have to get used to him...

A strong point is the transfer system. Maybe it's a coïncidence bet i made strong bids for 3 Standard players (Jovanovic, Defour, Sarr) and eacht time i was turned down. Later on i became aware that Standard had qualified for the Champions League...

Le Havre are ninth after 6 matches (having played a match less), 4 points behind joint leaders OM and PSG (they are both performing better than irl).

Gerd, have you tried renewing player contracts? It looks like you can negotiate them at any point of the season, as in real life. I've tried this, but every player has turned them down. I don't understand why, when i'm offering improved terms etc

Meanwhile, i'm approaching the end of the AXPO Swiss League season. With 8 games left, FC Sion look odds on for European football next season. We're currently top, by one point and with a game in hand over a resurgent second place FC Basel, it looks to be a thrilling finish to my first season in charge. Indeed, FC Sion will face FC Basel on the penultimate game of the season. Will this be the decider, or will it have all played out by then?

make sure the left (screen) value is more than the right, not thinking its adding whatever you put there onto his current deal,

which i thought it was because of JBs video, but that was just a fluke
