Boxing Talk!!

Credit to Danny for going toe to toe with Tyson, I don't recall Lewis doing that, Danny took harder shots than Lewis and took them well. But then Danny isn't fit to lace the gloves of a peak Lewis so the fight says a vast amount more about Tyson than it does about Danny. I take my hat off to Danny for showing heart that I never thought he had, but he'd still lose to the majority of decent heavyweights out there.
 
Possible Fight of the Year this saturday when Diego Corrales and Acelino Freitas butt heads.

Both are KO specialists. Both have shown vulnerability in the past. Both have been in some truly awesome fights.

If Corrales can box, I'm picking him to win cuz of his 6 ft height. But he is certainly vulnerabel to the chin and Freitas has a cannon in either hand.

Lord this will be good.
 
Harrison can FO, bitching for ages about not getting a shot at british title, gets one then buggers off to America instead. ALl this after 'I'll have a title after 5 pro fights'. Needs to crawl out of his own backside and fight someone.
 
Fuck me - did you guys catch the Corrales-Freitas fight?? :shock:

Great fight, with Freitas (31-0, 26 KOS) taking the early rounds with winging punches and frantic movement. He won 4 of the first 5 rounds, but then Corrales slowed him down and ended up kncoking him down 3 times. The first two were absolute TNT. I thought Freitas' head was gonna separate from his shoulders.

After the 3rd knockdown, Freitas said NO MAS and quit, for his first loss.

If you can find a download on the net, it is defo worht checking out.
 
Thought I'd bring this back up again, as it's looking a very good few weeks of boxing coming up.

Watched last week's Friday Fight on Sky (Quite like the Friday fights now, doesn't get in amongst the footy now), what a punch from Alexander to stop Takaloo, he's one of the best punchers in that division. Noticed David Haye got beat by old warhorse Carl Thompson, putting a death nail in that career I think.

Cotto won again taking a belt also over on the other side of the pond. Williams to go up against Klitschko signed up also.

This weekend should be a great fight seeing De La Hoya (one of my favs) move up to fight Bernard Hopkins. I don't think Oscar will win this, as he's moving up in weight and for me Hopkins although 38 or 39, is still the best around.

I'm also sure Ghazi's lover is fighting in the next few weeks too. :mrgreen: Ready for another KO? :twisted: ;)

I personally can't wait for the Williams/Klitschko fight, that ought to be great. I know Klitschko hits hard but Williams could be hit by a train and still be left standing.

Yeah Haye got stopped in the 5th. I didn't see it, thought it'd be on BBC, but seems they've dropped the boxing from their screens (although heard they might be doing a few fights before their contract is terminated).

FD, when my boyfriend Roy Jones recliams the crown, I want you to rap an apology to me in the Rap Thread. . . .resurrect that shit, man. There was some art in those rhymes!

I love Oscar's desire to fight the best and not duck anyone. Too many people hate him for being a pretty boy, but he has proven to be one of the best of his generation, and also shown that he has no fear against fighting everyone he should. Cant think of many other fighters who can claim the same.

However, Bernard has been at 160 for a decade and Oscar looked like crap against Sturm in his first fight at middleweight this year. I think Oscar might stick and move, using his speed effectively in the first few ronds, but I expect Bernard to slow him down, and take over after the 5th round. Hate to say it, but I think Hopkins can KO him in the late rounds if he goes after the KO.

Either way, this should be a good one.

;D haha...........I might just do that mate. ;) Still would've liked him to have fought Calzaghe who fights in Scotland in a few weeks, not sure if the weight was a problem though.

I do hope De La Hoya wins myself, but can't see it, think Hopkins could stop him as Ghazi mentioned. The guy has been beaten for about 9-10 years, think it's the man Roy Jones that beat him actually way back early in his career.

Yeah Roy took the middleweight crown in his fight with Hopkins, but the kicker is that Roy won pretty easily with one hand! he broke his other hand early in the fight and still dominated.

Oscar's only hope is to stick and move, unlike Trinidad who gave Hopkins all the time in the world to plant his feet and pick his shots. But I dont think Oscar's "cajones' will let him move around after the Trinidad decision he suffered some time back. PLus, with his added weight, I think he will tire if he thinks of moving too much.
 
So Hopkins stopped De La Hoya for the 1st time in his career. Didn't see it myself, although heard it was a great body shot that he couldn't recover from. Who was winning the fight at that point?

Also saw that Cotto might try and get a fight with Hatton. Would love that, I like Ricky Hatton, but think Cotto will take him out.

11 years, that's a hell of a run now for Hopkins. I see Williams has dropped his fight before Klitchko

Its hard to call really, the guy who interviewd both fighters in the ring had De La Hoya just ahead after 9 rounds, I think it was due to De La Hoya working so hard, Hopkins was really calculated and picked his shots cos he knew De La Hoya was gonna counter, so he was landing a better % of shots (and with power) but De La Hoya was really working him. You've gotta give credit to the Golden Boy, I thought he was gonna be on a "hit and run" mission but from the 1st round he was in Hopkins face and I think that threw him abit.

It was a cracking shot though, right on the liver, right before that round Hopkins had been asking his corner was he winning the rounds so I think he knew he was gonna have to stop him.

Hopkins wants Jones as his 20th and final defense.

I saw Cotto fight on Saturday, the guy is a fantastic prospect, he's feckin leathel, his promoter offered to come to Manchester and fight Hatton, Hatton would fight anyone but there is no way his promoter will let him anywhere near Cotto cos he will get fucked up!!

Oscar didnt move nearly as much as I thought he might, and they may have cost him, because I think he won the early rounds easily, and some stickin and moving mighta kept Hopkins away from him. Either, way, Oscar is a class act and was in over his head long before the fight started. he should drop to 147 and stay comfy, where his power can make an impact. I dont think he hurt Hopkins once, though he landed a few times.

Props to Bernard who has KO'd the biggest welters of the past decade. . Trinidad and Oscar. That liver shot was perfect and had me dancing at my friend's house.

I think I'm flying to NYC in a couple of weeks to see Mayorga-Trinidad in Trinidad's first fight since un-retiring. Not a big Tito fan cuz I have always thought he was overrated and knew Bernard would KO his ass. But my buddy is friends with heavyweight Fres Oquendo (who i met 2 years ago) who trains with Trinidad Sr. and they asked me to come. No VIP seats for me, though. . but maybe I'll hang with Tito. . . and smell his fingers. :mrgreen:

Yeah I do they De La Hoya bit off more than he could chew, but he's a brilliant fighter.

Sounds good going to watch a big fight, haven't watched one myself live, although I've thought about it a couple of times.

yeah despite getting beat he's still the classiest boxer in the game, I mean 6 belts at 6 weights, theres not much more the guy could have done.

There was an english dude at the fight who'd saved for 4 years to go to a fight like that, its defo something I wanna do, watching a world title fight in vegas and a world cup final are the two things I wanna do before I pop me cloggs!!
 
Big fights are great to go to. I've seen Roy Jones Jr from the 10th row which was a heavenly experience. Bernard Hopkins fought on the undercard that night. I have also seen Shane Mosley v Vernon Forrest 2, and Angel Manfredy fight about 3 times. Oh yeah, I saw Dwight Muhammad Qawi fight at heavyweight a couple years ago and talked to him after the fight. Great guy.

Fights are great when you have real fans around you, ust like footy.

My main goal now is to see the next World Cup though.
 
Just watched it, credit to both fighters, they both were up for it, Oscar was outmatched physically but still went for it and landed more punches IMO (although they didn't seem to affect Hopkins at all), Hopkins is a phenom, he's clearly looked after himself well as he's in great shape and still a great fighter despite his age :)

I've seen a fair few like Benn V Eubanks at OT , Tyson V that fat muppet at the arena but Vegas or The Garden (do they still fight there) would be the shit.

Hey Ghazi, one of boys has been in the Chi this weekend, he wanted to go see the bears at Soldier Field but they we're away, gutted.

I'm waiting for Winter to hit before I go lol

haha thats just him mate, he was going to Chicago anyway and just cos he was there he expected the Bears to be playing, he aint the brightest.......

I'm defo gonna be hitting Chicago soon though, so I'll need to know where to go for certain things so i'll "Holla!"

It's the end of an era, my friends. Roy was the most dominatnt athlete I have seen for the 16 years I watched him. He hardly lost a round, unless he gifted it away. He made gret fighters look like peasants, and easily outlcassed those peers that were supposed to challenge him, including a shutout vs James Toney, and another vs Bernard Hopkins, while fighting with only one hand.

I think his age (35) and gaining 25 lbs to go up to heavyweight, and then losing 25lbs to go down to lkt. heavyweight finanly proved his undoing, because he never looked comfortable, fluid or special after that. He also showed no hunger and no fire in his belly. His cat-like defensive reflexes were clearly gone, as he let an average fighter repeatedly outhustle and outhit him.

As I watched the first few rounds unfold on Saturday, I turned to my friend and shook my head, saying, ". . . he's gonna lose. You can see it in his face. It's gone. . ." :(

I didnt even watch the rest of the fight, cuz I didnt want to see it the inevitable demise. . . although I watched the rebroadcast last night.

Thanks for the memories Roy. You were the baddest. :salute: :cry:
 
It was awful, Placebo! :(

He lay on the canvas for a good 5 minutes without moving other than mouthing some words here and there. I know some guys who thought he was in a coma. The man's head slammed and bounced on the canvas a couple of times. I'm sure it's already on the internet.
 
Yeah after seeing your post I googled and read a report of the fight, sounds very unpleasant :( Shame he has to end his magnificent career on such a low note, but there's obviously no point him going on, he has a shit load of money, his health should be ok, time to move on to something else :)
 
Jones got smoked, Johnson was solid throughout and Jones was hankerin' for a beating. I mean, when you watch the replay and see the knockout punch, Jones didn't even ATTEMPT to defend himself. His hands were still down at his waist when the punch was landed. He was very unimpressive, I'd like to see him retire now because despite being a total legend I wouldn't like to see him take another beating like that. Seriously, the way he hit the canvas was sickening, NOBODY would have got up from that one.

TBH, he's finished now. Time to call it a day.

Saw that Barrera and Morales are set to go for a 3rd fight, should be another excellent show.

Looking forward to some of the British fights coming up too, in the next few weeks. Unfortunately missed both fights over the weekend with Roy Jones and Eastman who won on points.
