Battlefield 3

Agreed. How can they expect anyone but the braindead to buy any DLC for this now? EA at their finest.

FYI, your stats are updated if the game freezes, I've checked B/Log before a match and after a freeze many many times, to make sure. Ribbons & medals kept too.

Oh thanks, that's good. At least my 80-odd kills stood then :)

Oddly, after that match froze, i then joined a match that consisted of just one opponent, and four of us on the other team, and the other three kept doing the conga across the map in an attempt to lure out the one opponent who was sniping. They'd conga and have some kind of dance-off in the middle of the open, then once the sniper took a shot, they'd all pile over to where he was and shoot him, then repeat :CONFUSE:

So winner of the most hilarously stupid team award goes to my team last night, Metro CQ, 1000 tickets.

I spawned for the first time in my base, in the glass bank building outside near flag A. I did a double take to see the room full of snipers, taking shots through the glass fronted building. A quick head count revealed that my ENTIRE team was sniping from the same position.

The score showed their oppenentst still had over 900 tickets whereas they were down to 85, and all the opposition were doing was firing rockets and grenade lauchers into the building, killing them all over and over again. They'd just respawn and run back to the same spot again and again.

It was kind of hilarious watching them, but also goes to show that opening up the game to a wider audience, while good in principle, now means that (present company excepted of course!!), probably 90% of all players in this game seem to be blithering idiots! Frustrating but funny.

Haha, that is pretty dumb. Snipers do tend to like that spawn point, mind you. It's slightly odd how some of them actually prefer to spawn there than at flag C, even though all flags have been captured. That's one hell of a boring game they're playing.

Also, if you're stuck with your base near flag C and the opposition have control of every flag, you can get a fair few enemy kills because the enemy just try to block the corridors at C which you can spray bullets and grenades down. You can also sneak down the sides of the subway trains. If you're on the other side at A, it's much harder to infiltrate Flag B - there are 3 entrances but if it's a good team you're up against it can be quite frustrating trying to get in to the Metro.

I also used some MS Points on unlocking the recon pack because I rarely use that class and therefore wouldn't unlock them via game progress. The M98B is a fantastic weapon. I'm not surprised most of the snipers/recon in the game use it along with the 8x or 12x ballistic scope. One shot kills pretty much from anywhere, as this damage chart highlights:
http://www.joinaclan.com/battlefield-3-recon-class-weapon-damage/
That is insane.

Alas, as I say, I won't be using it often as I prefer Assault/Support so I wasted my points really just to see what all the fuss was about.

Has the linking up with friends gotten any better on this?

I haven't played it for a while, but plan to play with a friend on Friday. Last time we tried (A few month ago), it wouldn't let us join games together at all!

Hopefully it will work better this time.

I haven't had a problem with that but then it does all depend on how many folk are on the server at the time.

Nah fuck this, I've finally had it with this game. Its going up for sale.

All of the larger maps are frankly boring, there's almost no-one playing the actual game beyond snipers sitting 2 miles away and people dicking around in vehicles. First person shooter? Barely.

Then there are the close quarter maps like Metro etc where there's no destruction at all and everyone's just running around like lunatics with shotguns and darts. These levels pretty much feel like COD nowadays.

DICE really fucked up with this. The actual gameplay of older Battlefield, and even Bad Company, has somehow been lost and replaced by two types of maps that are in huge extremes of each other.

Add to that the massive piss-take that is the rented server debacle, and I'm done. I mean seriously, EA claim that their own official servers are around, but I've never seen one. It's impossible to just get a regular game of Rush or CQ without having ridiculous numbers of tickets etc and hugely inadequate matchmaking. I can almost never find a game that is even remotely even. Another match I tried tonight was 921 tickets to 0 in one team's favour. Then something similar in the next match, over and over. It's so dull.

EA won't give a shit though, they've got their sales from the game, they've got their sales from the online passes, they've got their sales from their DLC, and now they're raking it in from practically abandoning their own servers and renting them out to those who have already given them their money.

Shite!

Why the fuck did they now make the dart attachment some crazy one shot kill? I got persuaded to play this again with my mate, but im not going on this ever again. I just can't believe how unbalanced it is. It's also like the game has managed to concentrate every trolling, cheating, underhanded arsehole from the entire gaming world and condensed them all into this game.

First there was some guy acting like a total prick, putting spawn beacons behind our only spawn area then roaming the area with a shotgun that overides any other gun, then everyone else seemed to be using that dart and able to kill you from half the map away. This game is a total shambles.

 I hope this is the last time otherwise you are going to have a heartattack.

I managed to get some games with my friend the other day and it is really hard. One of the maps had a guy going around in a boat under the map! and shooting people from there...never saw that at all before.

Also everybody is so good now as it has been out for so long, the games are really hard.

It was fun last night though, just us two going around having fun :))

Come on LT, make up your mind! You've been selling this game for the last six months but keep going back to it. If it's going to give you a coronary, sell the fucker.

I got £15 in CEX with no codes. Cash in and buy a game that doesn't piss you off so much.

Lol yeah it's up to sell now, it's the most social game I have right now as its the game most of my friends have who actually go online, which is why I've been reticent to sell it.

Even though there's been 10+ tweets from me to them, 100s of other players complaining too on Twitter and the Battlelog forums, the Gulf Of Oman freeze bug is not in the changelog for next week's patch.

It's starting to feel like this issue is the engineer from the classic Bottom episode "Gas", who ends up hidden under the carpet before being thrown out of the apartment down the stairs

Which map is Gulf of Oman?

The maps in this game aren't memorable compared to BC2.

DICE just announced a brand new Battlefield 3 patch, scheduled for release on June 4 and 5 on consoles and PC. The patch will fix a number of issues, including the famousM26 DART glitch, reduced suppression, improvements ot the F35 jet, colorblind addition, and more. The patch will be released for both the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, on June 4 or 5, depending on platform. Head on after the break for the full patch changelog.
Vehicle related changes

Tweaked the F35 handling to more closely resemble that of the SU35.
Jet and helicopter ECM Jammer should now deflect missiles more reliably when it is active.
Fixed an issue where vehicles wouldn’t spawn if their intended space was occupied by a deployable gadget. The vehicle will now spawn as intended and the gadget will be destroyed in the process.
Fixed AA missiles not doing damage to vehicles moving at very high speeds.
Reduced the direct damage from unguided Javelins to require better side hits for a 1 hit disable. This was previously too forgiving and easy to accomplish.
Removed the direct damage from aircraft launched guided missiles. Players will need to have laser designated targets for full effectiveness.
Adjusted the helicopter rockets to their original prepatch damage value against armored vehicles. This is a reduction; a revert of a knock on effect that was introduced accidentally.
Fixed the US Tank Guided Shell doing the reverse damage values when guided and unguided.
Adjusted the M224 mortar damage against vehicles. Some tweaks and adjustments in a previous update accidentally increased its effectiveness greater than intended.
Increased the range on the AA guns so they can reach vehicles hovering at the maximum height in select maps.
Replaced the VDV buggy on Gulf of Oman (Back to Karkand) with the DPV buggy for both teams at the City flag.
Fixed a bug where some vehicle unlocks were still enabled after the player left the vehicle.
Soldier and gadget related changes

Reduced the inaccuracy added when in suppression. There is still an enhanced suppression compared to the initial state in the game, but the effect is now less than it was in the last patch.
Reduced input lag for gamepads/joysticks on all platforms. Aiming as a soldier when using a gamepad or joystick should now be more responsive.
Tweaked the deploy times on gadgets to be faster to deploy in high stress combat situations.
Greatly improved the responsiveness when deploying a bipod when going prone and shortly after moving. The bipod deploy should no longer abort if the player deploys the bipod immediately after stopping.
Fixed bug where you couldn’t deploy the mortar anywhere on Grand Bazaar.
When changing the accessories of a weapon in the Customize screen, the weapon previously selected in the Deploy screen will now automatically be selected when entering the Accessories screen.
Increased the effectiveness of the Aim Assist at close range. Testing in Close Quarters proved our current assist to be inadequate in tight quarters. This is a global change, and will improve the effectiveness of Aim Assist for all modes and maps. Aim Assist over distance is still significantly less effective. This is console only, as Aim Assist is not present on PC. If you prefer, you can also turn it off on console.
Players will now spawn on the Radio Beacon looking in the same direction the Beacon is facing. The Beacon always faces in the direction the player is facing when it is planted. Previously the Beacon’s direction had no impact on the player’s spawn direction.
The Spawn Preview camera on the Spawn Beacon has been updated to better reflect the direction the player will be looking when he spawns.
40mm smoke now stays longer again.
Tweaked some tracers on sniper rounds to have better visibility at range (the tracers are smaller).
Tweaked the flashlight so it is less blinding at the edge of the screen.
Fixed bug where you couldn’t pick up your deployed gadgets after being revived.
Weapons related changes

Fixed a bug where Heavy Barrels and Underslung Shotguns could be over powered. (This is the so called M26 dart issue)
All semi-automatic sniper rifles now properly have shorter range when using a suppressor.
The L96 now properly shoots where the iron sights are aimed. The position was previously offset.
The SKS now has the proper damage values when using a suppressor. The damage was previously too low at close range.
Slightly reduced the suppression effect of SKS rounds.
Decreased the long range damage of the SKS to highlight its close to medium range role.
Slightly decreased the foregrip aimed accuracy penalty on the M4A1 to bring it in line with other guns.
Slightly increased the foregrip aimed accuracy penalty on the SCAR-H to bring it in line with other guns.
Reduced some of the vertical recoil and zoomed accuracy penalties added to the FAMAS in the previous update.
F2000 foregrip accuracy penalty reduced and recoil reduction bonus increased.
AEK971 foregrip recoil reduction bonus increased.
SG553 foregrip recoil reduction bonus increased.
FAMAS foregrip recoil reduction bonus increased.
Fixed the M416’s M26 with Flechettes not having a name in the kill log.
Fixed so all clip based LMGs have Extended Mags as an available unlock.
All semi-automatic shotguns now fire at 220rpm. There was previously simply a small difference between them, whereas now they have different pellet counts instead of rates of fire.
Improved the recoil and accuracy of the M26 to match the 870.
Reduced the impact suppression has on shotguns. Shotguns are still affected by Suppression but it should no longer significantly impact their accuracy from the hip as it previously did.
The 870’s pump speed has been increased slightly from 0.55 seconds to 0.48 seconds. The empty reload time for the 870 has also been reduced slightly.
Improved the accuracy of aimed shotguns when on the move.
The Saiga’s recoil has been reduced.
The M1014 now fires 10 projectiles. The other semi auto shotguns have 9 pellets, and since the M1014 has a lower mag size and a slower reload it now fires 10 pellets to give it some edge.
The USAS-12 now fires 7 projectiles.
The MK3A1 now fires 8 projectiles.
Fixed so the weapon’s fire mode is saved between spawns.
Miscellaneous changes

Added colorblind option for consoles.
Added colorblind icon for squad leader (all formats).
Added the option for console server admins to show a symbol in the server browser signifying custom rules are in effect.
Fixed an issue where footsteps couldn’t be heard behind you.
Fixed so that the arming of an M-COM station will not be cancelled if you look at a dropped weapon.
Fixed exploit where you could teleport to the AA gun on carriers by firing an EOD bot at its door.
Fixed co-op ammo HUD not showing on first enter.
Fixed so you get prompted if you really want to switch team when pressing the Switch team button.
Fixed so that Assignments are being correctly sorted on the My Soldier\Assignments screen.
Fixed issue with commorose not working on soldiers in vehicles (PC).
Added blinking capture point icons in the 3D HUD, and added blinking neutral icons in objectives bar.
Composed a more informative error message for when a console player attempts to rent a server in a location where there are currently no servers available.
Fix for dog tag icons in the My Soldier/Assignments screen appearing slightly stretched.
Fixed some tracers appearing behind the soldier or vehicle that fired them.
Potential random audio crash fix.

I think Battlefield Premium is a disgrace. I know you get the map packs etc but seriously, extra DLC to the tune of £40 or so is taking the piss, not least when a large number of people will already have paid extra for Back to Karkand anyways.

Potentially, if a loyal BF3 customer would have so far paid for pretty much everything available, they'd currently have paid over £100 for this game. That's disgraceful.

I've also read that BF3 Premium users get server priority, especially in queues. That's a massive kick in the balls to everyone who's paid for their game and maps so far IMO, and a disgusting way to treat customers.

Yep, my sentiments exactly.

My feelings about EA are well known so I won't labour the point, but the way they are 'monetising' the shit out of their major franchises really stinks. They'll drive Battlefield into the ground the same way Activision have with Call of Duty.

Really, games like this would be better off going down the monthly subscription route. That way everyone knows where they stand.

EA are getting worse and worse for sure. From all the paid BF3 stuff to the whole online pass issue, it really stinks.

Now I'd normally not comment on DLC that includes extra cosmetic stuff, I don't have any issue with that as we all decide whether we want to pay for stuff like that, but I have massive issues with them giving server priority. I paid full price for this game, I should be fully entitled to be able to access the game the same as anyone else.

So I'm guessing if you were to play the game with a group of friends on a server that is reasonably full, are EA actually saying that some of your group would make it into a server whereas others in that group get split up because there's some random dude also joining who got there first on the basis that they are paying £40 for server priority? That kinda messes with the whole 'social gaming' aspect the Battlefield franchise had always promoted? EA are the worst thing to have happened to this franchise in terms of quality and value.

At the beginning of their conference, the schmuck host outlined how "Years ago, the game you bought was the game you got". Unlike Peter Moore and all the others, I personally didn't want that to change. For a start, there's more bugs in todays games than the non-patched releases of old. Their outlook is horrific and creepy, but the real idiots are the paying customers who give gringos like EA the need to continually exploit. "We're making people happy by providing more content", they say. No, it's actually putting a carrot on a string and luring out the donkeys. They are "listening to users" translates to "exploiting the donkeys".

With any kind of cunt business, there is always a braindead tribe beyond the line of "standard user", that follows on, buys anything. EA, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook - if the world didn't have a majority population of initiative-free drones then these fat cats would be forced to work hard for our custom.

Premium is an insult to the casual / nice guy player, pitching idiotic greedy drones against level-headed users who just want a match or three - it gives an awkward feeling now, due to embarrassment and that thought of "how far is a purchaser of the game going to isolated from the purchaser of everything". All the DLC is overpriced even when settling on one that seems interesting.

The latest patch is quite balanced although I've heard one of the new unlockable weapons for the Battledrone Club, the "417", is this months USAS & FRAG. So, expect more kids buying Premium just to use it. I had two hours on a long Oman match last night. It didn't freeze, but could just be lucky. Seeing as the Twitter crew didn't respond to me again last night, when querying the patch fixing it, if it does freeze in the next couple of hours I have on it, I'm stringing the disc to a helium balloon and launching her off over the valley.

That's the problem....people have a good moan about EA (and others such as Activision, Ubisoft, etc...) but still keep on buying their products.

If you don't like the way some games companies do business these days, then stop supporting them. Simple as that. EA know that no matter how low they sink, their games will still be top sellers.

Yep. In general, many folk just have no standards or principals. The "cheap fix" culture of the world in this age is exploited by EA and others. I cannot facepalm enough to keep up with the crap I see or hear each day.

Personally, I'm glad I got BF3 for under £20 but rather ashamed to fund EA even that much. The wife feels similar about her Mass Effect 3 which was cheap too. It's scary to think of the (extra) potential of such franchises if DICE & Bioware had decent publishers.

Meh I'm not sure server priority is gonna be that much of an issue,

Because it already is, ever since the rent a server thing, this game has gone to crap in terms of playing solo, you are gonna get kicked, get on a weaker team etc.

Last weekend my clan buddies weren't much active, as result I got like 4 wins the whole weekend and about 30 defeats. All because of we were only 4/5 lads and we kept insisting on going into clan servers.
Those are bullshit without at least two fully squads with full communication.

Some of these platoon/clan peepz are only into stats stats and stats, trying to be in some leaderboard shit or whatever.

My platoon buddies mostly play for fun, even against each other, but these days we are away and can't fill a server.

But I'm hoping new maps, bring nice people back, that's the positive side of that premium stuff, at least I'm hoping.

Rent a server is the thing that ruined it for me.

Wow, rent-a-server totally revitalized the game for me, playing with buddies on our favourite maps with loads of tickets is a lot of fun.

In my day to day with this game I seem to have the opposite experience from most of you lads.
