Fifa 09 PS2 controller problems on PC

Hello,

I've been trying out Fifa for the first time in years (the '09 version). I usually use a PS2 pad on my PC when playing PES, and it works without a hitch - but in FIFA 09 the pads don't work properly, and it seems impossible to set them up via the control menu.

You are forced to used the analog stick for direction, and you can't assign a button for through ball or either tackle type. Also it seems impossible to assign r2 or l2 to do anything.

Anyone had this problem? I'm using a UBS PSX x2 adapter.

Hi,

I have also had this problem - I read somewhere that the game doesn't support this controller? I'm hoping someone will create a fix for this in soon (mainly for the through ball and slide tackle issues).

i can help you both with this problem pm me i don't want to post links of another site here. it has file which you can download which fixes empty button problem.

Program Files > EA Sports > Fifa 09 > Data > Input > Devdata.dat (open with notepad).

Enter the following. (Depends on what your gamepads called.
You can find that out by clicking Control Panel > Game Controllers.
It'll tell you the name of the controller

How can i set the skills button? Using the keyboard we can define a key but with the ps2 gamepad the option is gone...

Aren't the skill button a combo of the right analog stick and dummy move button or something? I vaguely remember it from last year, but I've been working with mouse/keyboard lately. I had a PS2 controller and still need to fix it, but if I find it, I'll post back.

I found a helpfull tip on another forum. After doing what it told me to do my contoller was reconized and i could finnnaly use it.

Here's the thread:
Hi Everyone,

I've had some people having trouble with our pad range in the new FIFA 2005 game, despite the fact that the game does support our pad range. Here is something to try if you find that the pad is not working correctly or you can't reconfigure the controls in the game.

EA did include support for our pads (in fact the P2500 is in the game manual!) but the way that they support the pads is to hard code the "name" of the pad into the game.

In the P880's case they called it the Saitek P880 Pad USB
In the P2500's case they called it the Cyborg Force Rumble Pad
In the P3000's case they called it the Saitek P3000RFGame-Pad

As long as this name matches what is in Game Controllers in Control Panel then the pad will work fine. However, this name doesn't always match (and in fact the P3000 never was called what EA called it so I've no idea where they got that from).

So if you're finding that the pad doesn't work correctly then you need to edit the name of the pad in the Windows Registry.

Click Start>Run, type regedit and click OK. In the Registry Editor browse to the following folders in order:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
MediaProperties
PrivateProperties
Joystick
OEM

And then find the following folder depending on which pad it is, it should look something like:

VID_06A&3_PID_0109

If you have a few, just find one where the OEMName matches that which you find in your Control Panel|Game Controllers window.

Click on the folder and then look on the right side of the Registry Editor; there should be an entry called OEMName that has an 'ab' icon next to it. Double click on that icon and a window will appear called Edit String. In that window you can see that it has the name of the pad – this needs to be changed to reflect what EA's games support so, change it to one of the supported names (I changed my PS TO USB CONVERTOR to Logitech Dual Action).

And tada, it should solve the problem! Note that what I posted is a modification of a solution I used for FIFA some time ago.

I tried to change the name to Logitech Dual Action but the gamepad doesn't work properly.
That patch is the same, can't define some buttons like R1, the start button is on R3 and the right stick seems to be with wrong directions.

@nuno : I have same problem with you bro....after change name to logitech dual action, it's fixed the "empty" problem, but I can't assign Run to R1 like Pro Evolution Soccer, so I have to assign Run to R2, and Little bit confusing because I used to play Pro Evo Soccer.

Hello guys.
I tried what dotslak said and it worked fine. Thanks for that :)
Thing is I want to go back to my previously named controller now so as to play PES also and I don't remember the exact name of the adapter so as to change it back in the registry... :(
It was something like PS/2 TO USB CONVERTOR but i put it like this in the registry and PES 2009 does not recognise it.
Is there any solution to this?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
to confirm the name of your controller go to Control Panel and check gamepad properties (whilst connected) this gives you the name of your pad.
Ensure you have latest drivers for either your joypad or your USB PS2 adapter and then calibrate.

There is more info in EAs official forums.

Good luck

Yes indeed I can replicate this too.

Why can we not assign L1 or R1 as a control?

can anyone tell me how to repair that empty problem with blue loong pc dual shock joystick in fifa 09?
