PC Winning Eleven 9 (PES 5) resolution problems: UPDATE 2

Hi guys,

I decided to reinstall WE9. I added kitserver 5.4 and increased the resolution in kload.cfg:

dx.fullscreen.width = 2560
dx.fullscreen.height = 1440

and while the game seems to render at this resolution, the edges of the players still have a very pixelated look to them. Is there any way of getting this game to look sharp. I've tried downsampling from 3600x2025 (monitor res 1920x1080) but it seems to make no difference in the final image quality.

Here's some examples of a WE9 at 2560x1440:

Any help very much appreciated.

UPDATE:

Having read this post (http://www.evo-web.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=2821351&postcount=397) on the forums it has become clear that resolution options in the kload config don't work as I had thought they would. The kload settings essentially stretch the existing pixels from the Konami Settings.exe (1280x1024 etc.) to the kload screen resolution, rather than making more pixel data.

The only way that PES5/WE9 can be played at full resolution is for someone to find a way to mod in more settings in the Settings.exe as Juce's solution only stretches the image and allows for new aspect ratios (which is amazing in itself!).

I'm working on improving image quality (injecting SMAA) through SweetFX, I'll let you guys know if I find any solutions that help.

UPDATE 2:

Another small update. After finding information on a DirectX interception dll fix for Dark Souls, I'm wondering if this kind of fix would be possible for old PES games. The creator of the Dark Souls fix managed to create options for internal and display resolution, plus options for antialiasing and HUD scaling (would make the game time, score, player names and map smaller).

Was wondering if any of the talented coders on here could create something to test the theory. Unfortunately, I have no clue about programming.
