From what I have seen so far with the advantage, it tends to play the advantage if the ball is passed to another player, if you are fouled but recover to run on then it will pull the play back for a free kick.

Probably not right but what I think so far.

I was thinking that, but i've also seen someone get fouled and continue running and play was allowed to go.
That has only been when the play was in alot of room though.

Think its definatly got something to do with passing it off though.

if u want a player switch to go straight to a player u want. Use the right analog stick and aim it to the direction of the player you want to control hope that helps

Who the f**K is that meant to be on the left?

Regarding the faces, its obvious if you stick a photo on a model its gonna look better than a rendered one because its a photo!!

It's a PES v. FIFA of Alonso..

Same here. No more until release day.

I'm just looking forward to a complete rundown of the 10 v 10 online mode as none of the hands-on previews will talk about it. I heard, I think in one of the many David Rutter interviews, that you will be able to boot people from rooms and I'm still waiting to hear if you'll be able to limit the number of people that can play on your team. I'd rather not have to have a full 10 if I don't want it and I'm the host. Also, in discussing the 10 v 10 club mode the guy explained that anyone who isn't controlled by a human, will be controlled by the CPU but that if someone wanted to control the remaining players they could do so by choosing ANY. But this has to be done before the game starts. I'm thinking to myself, yes, I believe anyone who has played FIFA 08 understands how the ANY position works. But the fact that he felt the need to get so in-depth about a feature we all know about make me think that EA probably didn't allow us to designate one person to be ANY. If that's the case I'm going to be quite pissed of as it seems like it'd be so easy to implement. At the very least we'd better be able to boot people.

There has been a rundown about 10 vs 10.

It's possible to play with less than 10 man. It's possible to create an own team and kick people out. It's possible to scout for new players. Everything is possible.

There are things that really piss me off about this game. I thought from the demo that EA would've managed to remove the players turning and seemingly dancing rather than merely collecting the ball - sometimes they knock it off the pitch with their heel. If there's any consolation, at least the cpu is affected too.

When I modify the auto switching to zero, I expect the computer to NEVER (NEVER EVER EVER EVER) CHANGE MY FUCKING PLAYER. But no... it has to change it. Great. Whoever was responsible for that at EA Sports deserves a slap upside the head.
It's incredibly dumb when you play with 2 or more human players on the same team: on lots of occasions have my mate and I played a through ball to one another, only to find that the game has switched the controller of the recipient, meaning you end up passing to yourself (which in turn fucks up the run that you or your mate is making.)

The player switching really pisses me off. Manual switching should mean manual..100% of the time!! Swearing is very much justified with regard to this aspect of the game.

I simply cannot stand cpu interference yet the demo shows the game is still full of it. I'll doubtless be on here swearing a-plenty after the full release. Being better than PES won't mean it's immune to stinging criticism.

Positive

* Excellent animation
* To an auto-updating statistics
* Online games for up to 10 players

Negative

* Payment for extra information for statistical championships

If that's the only negative they can find with the game that's rather good :)

Pretty good review really, seems fair and balanced, they gave Fifa08 8.5 on both systems and PES2008 6 on PS3 and 6.5 on 360.

Must say I'm happy with the one we got :)

I got this one: http://audiovisual.kelkoo.co.uk/erl_19315075/100311823.html and yes we're very, very happy with it, picture quality is great, and sound is amazing considering the price :)

Still waiting for confirmation on the Swedish version's text/commentary options.

Allright cool. I'm gonna go with Philips 42PFL7403D. Seems to be a decent TV as well. It's like a djungle out there. Might as well just pick one and go for it :))

I ordered my xbox360 copy from game.co.uk this year. Last year I bought Fifa 08 here in Sweden and there was no english commentary. And since you are from Sweden just like me you know that the game is pretty much ruined if you have to listen to Glenn Hysén and his bullshit :))

Well, Fifa 09 is about to be shipped according to Game, so i can probably expect it tomorrow. With that said, i'm about to delete the 09 demo, after playing it for the last few hours, and actually becoming very good at it (apart from the damn shooting.)

I'm now gonna play 08 for a few hours, probably for the last ever time. Gonna miss that game.

Finally got my copy today. Game has broken release in Melbourne 2 days early and got fined 16K the guy at the shop said !!

Anyway, initial impressions were mixed:

- felt sluggish compared to the demo (as in, 08 responsiveness), although my first match was with melbourne & sydney, who are each 1.5 stars so that could well have been it. Played arsenal vs inter under lights at the emirates after and it didnt seem so bad, but i could have been getting used to it! Dont really know anymore if the responsiveness has changed from the demo.
- faces are brilliant.
- weather options not available, you can only set night or day (some stadiums dusk) and Im assuming the weather changes.
- advantage rule not fixed.
- I have player switching issues on 1 notch. Can someone recommend a switching setting that wont have me switching away from my CB when hes one on one with the CPU attacker??
- CPU is same as demo, maybe shoots a little more depending on the team, although still seem to lose their bearings close to the corner flag, which is frustrating.
- Team styles are really evident. Arsenal were presenting for one-twos in and around the box, although not many came off due to my crappy manual passing!. Played Australia as well (yeh yeh im aussie) against brazil in Fussball Stadion, which is my favourite generic stadium so far and it was all just so real, with bresciano popping up with half chances, kewell getting run down all the time and culina dictating from the midfield. Had a great late run into the box as well with cahill in typical timmy style. Im aware that not many of you will know these players as well as I but it was a good example of team styles. Portsmouth were great as well, diop regularly drops into the hole behind crouch + defoe. Belhadj is fantastic as well! Was playing long balls to crouch and he was flicking them on, although one major issue seems very prevalent in the final game:
- On professional, it seems they've changed the balance in terms of attacker vs defender to defender. Even with defoe, i was regularly getting run down by nosworthy in 1v1's although admittedly he was doing it via physical play. Havent been someone like ronaldo yet although im sure he will be able to run away with ease. Just something I noticed. It was fixed with Vela when i brought him on for arsenal, he was really nimble and great!
- Since I have an asian region game...my arena is really funky. Under lights in like tokyo or something with big neon asian signs everywhere
- Have yet to start any BAP or manager mode things so cant comment. Will do tomorrow.

Other than that it plays a lot like the demo, which is mainly fine. Im disappointed that a few of the AI + advantage issues havent been fixed, but hey thats life.

Extreme curl is still there as well, although if you utilise the new technique someone on here was talking about (cant remember who) of not holding it any longer then it works out alright. I just wish it curled on the whole shot rather than picking up a huge amount at the end - it just looks odd.

-Im happy to answer any requests about stats stadiums or options etc. But will not be posting images or recording videos. CBF!

Right, no work today, and no distractions. Gonna put in some time one this game.

For anyone wondering about the players feeling different. This is evident in the game, Giovanni is quick and nible good turn and dribbling, while Jenas keeps losing the ball in the middle of the park. THere is a definate difference between players and teams. Arsenal move like lightning, play against them and you can see the whole midfield push forward, while against Liverpool the forwards were more isolated from the midfield.

I really need to learn to finish.

Honestly, it sounds like he is pushing his defence up too high and using the offside trap.

"View Post
noobs doing a chip through ball, and because you havent selected your defender in time he doesnt get a run off and enough speed to catch the attacker."

Sounds like his fault, rather than the games. Will have to see when I finally get this damned game. Torture ensues.

fernadez
30 September 08, 12:12
I've got done on a long through ball but i see it as my fault. When its happened my defence has been way to high on the pitch, and i've been deep in attack. The other player has just broke and played it over the defence. Obviously with the ST facing towards the goal, the chances of him getting on to the ball are good, and his players were faster then mine.

Don't see the problem myself.

Ok im back with those answers. Btw that aussie whoever it was - game was selling it at 12pm today!! EB only doing it to follow suit the suckers lol.

Ok, on the questions asked.
- San siro does NOT have night option - only dusk. Sorry.
- The longest half length is 20 mins - same as 08 i believe.
- My mistake with the overcast - i did it - and it was great! rained on and off and for some reason made the game faster, which was a good change. :D
- Couldnt check the game speed online EA servers were down.

Now some miscellaneous things:
- The range of stadiums is immense. Any type of stadium you want really - its there. Unless you want riverside and the JJB all licensed - this is all you will ever need.
- My arena is NOT the funky asian one! It changed again when i booted the game up for 2nd time, to a wall, like the demo, but without all the brazilian cottages behind.
- Since XBL was up working again, I entered my live season code - it seems very well done. Easy to set up, not ambiguous (as in the entry code only allowed letters - no 0 vs O here!!), although i think the first actual update will occur next week - it did download a new one - but the stats are all unchanged, reflecting the fact that the game is already up to date I imagine.
- Ignore my responsiveness cries - It was perfect 2nd time around! Just as responsive as the demo. Have no idea why my box felt sluggish b4!!

Okay, on BAP Seasons:
- Chose Denilson. First match against Man City at night at the emirates. The emirates is brilliant, with the cannons on the boards (still not red though :brick:), curved corner adboards and EVENLY DISTRIBUTED nighttime lighting!! It isnt like this in all the stadiums though - only the ones with constant lights around the entire pitch - unfortunately there doesnt seem to be many. It has a real champions league atmosphere though at the emirates at night. This may be my imagination, but since XBL was back up there were more adboards scrolling at emirates as well - ones I hadnt seen in my exhibition match before!
- This mode is INCREDIBLE. The Ai just turns it up. Arsenal were playing creative, imaginative football, with me doing my best to join in - it was SO Close to real life it was unbelievable. Andy gray also compared manchester city to arsenal as well during the game - commenting on their short, quick passing game. Nice Touch.

Arsenal were clearly the better side, although thats not to say MC were crap. Jo, Elano & Petrov were a constant menace, and I was having a real tough time trying to protect the Back 4, as the manager put me at LCM (further back) replacing Eboue from the game's default arsenal lineup. They didnt lineup with default everywhere but me, however, they actually had a few different players in from the default lineup. :applaud: Additionally, when calling for the ball the player puts his hand up - i dont know if this was in previous versions as I didnt like previous BAP implementations. BTW Im playing on Tele Cam, of course. BAP cam always has shocking a shocking frame rate.

Noticed a new animation, an outside of the foot lofted pass - which i believe wasnt in the demo. There WAS one in the demo - but not this one.

Ok when you start the BAP seasons it shows you personal season objectives, like have 30 shots :-ll, have an average rating of 7.0, etc. As well as individual match objectives, like have 2 shots, get a rating of 7.0 etc.I imagine these change with each match. On the menu screen, it has two little notifiers in the bottom right corner - Squad status and international status. As denilson, my squad status was first team regular (I would call him more of a fringe player) and international status was unnoticed.

At half time. i had a rating of 7.4, which was the best rating on the field, and I thought that was fair . No joke though, I had put some lovely balls through and was shielding the defence adequately. Not makelele, but adequately. Hence the 7.4 and not the 8.4. One particular ball i played was into the path of Van persie, who took it on the edge of the box, cut inside, and let rip on his left, powering one into the far post. It was magic, and undeniably a great visual representation of arsenal and Rvp in real life. No goal though.
The 7.4 half time rating was from 8/11 completed passes, 6/8 dribbles, and no tackles. I was shielding the defence by picking up loose balls, not tackling :P. Clichy was second in rating, and Jo was currently 3rd, having had a fair few shots.

After half time arsenal began to turn the screws, replacing sagna with a more advanced eboue and switching rosicky for diaby on the left. Almost instantly, eboue played a ball to an isolated adebayor and he beat dunne and slid it under the keeper. 1-0. Play continued in a similiar vein to the first half - although my presence was diminishing. I was finding it harder to find space and pick the right pass, which i figured reflected both fatigue and MC's growing urgency and defensive pressure. I even WANTED to be subbed off in the end because I felt denilson was so tired, but not to be. Adebayor finished it off with a header from a corner in the 74th minute, and it finished 2-0.

Full time Adebayor was 1st in the ratings, with 8.6, with reflected the fact that really, he had 3 chances and 2 goals. Most of our chances were through van persie. Clichy finished 2nd on 7.5 having successfully negated Petrov in the second half - who was unseen. I finished 3rd on 7.2, which was down from half-time and rightly so.

7.2 was due to 12/19 passes, 13/16 dribbles, and 1/3 tackles.

Its a magnificent mode, really, and I can see myself spending many, many hours trying to stamp my mark on the world game :D

Great review of BAP there. The only thing that sounds poor about it is the season and match goals, they are pointless and terrible.

Any indication of possible transfers to another club?

The review has also inspired me, i was going start my season with Berbatov or Messi, but i'm thinking i might now go for a younger player.

Maybe Possenbon for United, or a first teamer for a lesser club.

Something that has really pleased me about that review also, is that the computer seems to be able to hold their own in a match. On both Euro and 08 in BAP, if my team were to score a goal, i would ALWAYS be involved in the goal, no matter what position, i'd either score or assist it.

I've changed my mind also. The season and match objectives could be good actually. They would be fantastic if they weren't so stupid. It should be more like this for example. If you were a striker, missions should be:

Season: Score 15 in a season. Assist 7. (Or however many depending on the quality of your club.)

Any idea if some goals are like that at all? Have however many shots (although, would be good as a striker,) and average whatever rating just seem stupid.

Danish review of FIFA 09. They give it a 8/10, and let me translate the Pro's and Con's

+
- Userdefined Custom Tactics
- Great graphic
- Put a lot more effort in the simulator (or translated directly: they have put a lot more "meat" on the simulator  )
- Better goalkeeper perfomances

-
- Flaws happens occasionaly in the AI
- Still a step behind the PES-simulator (:LIE:) WTF?!)

Again, I can't believe the last prediction. They haven't made a review of the new PES, so I would say they compare FIFA 09 to PES08?
Clearly again. We have the big discussion of which better. And clearly the reviewer is a PES-fanboy, who like pingy and arcady football. Calling PES a football simulator. It WAS a football simulator. I am a PES fanboy, that converted to FIFA last year.

These reviewers are going to look weak if PES 2009 is not up to their usual standards. Do they rate it higher because of the negative press they've given Fifa, or simply admit it isnt quite as good as expected, therefore raising the Fifa bar again.

Yeh guys I havent played long enough to see if transfers happen.

Only played one BAP season game so far and thats the one I wrote up so will play some more tomorrow.

As you said, its great that the Ai can hold it own - I wasnt involved in either of the goals.

Also, after I decided to venture forward once and lost the ball, i was almost directly responsible for a goal - but elano put it wide. I was relieved

Just playing some random exhibition matches now to get the feel for the teams.

United are great - Ronaldo is clearly a step above, and Tevez, for some reason, plays, runs, and just generally looks like his real life counterpart. I played Liverpool at OT. They fucked me up on the counterattack, torres was holding off my players heaps and then letting me run past it - little shoulder shimmy's and the like. They won 2-0 with a double to fernando.

Now playing argentina vs england - and what a difference you can see/feel between the teams. England are keeping the ball in the air - and with good reason, as messi and aguero are constantly nipping at the heels of the central pairing. Messi feels amazing - has more control than Ronaldo IMO, and I managed to pull off a trademark run between 3 people and then faking inside - before gerrard came flying in from the side and dumped me, taking the ball though. For that moment though, when he'd faked onto his left and begun the wind up, the anticipation was great. At times it gets frustrating - I cant win headers with either messi or aguero unless they are virtually free, so there are periods of the game where I really have to sit back and absorb because I cant get near the ball. As soon as its on the ground now, aguero and messi are making diagonal runs galore in behind the defence, and Ive been clean through with aguero a few times. if it werent for my awful manual shooting, i rkn Id be 2-0 up!!

They seem to always have to throw in that last bit in every review... it would be OK if PES actually was more realistic, but it's clearly not and that is the reason why people change game lately. He could write that he thinks PES is more FUN because that could be a valid point for some (kids ;))).

i think the problem with the reviews at the moment is that - they don't have PES2009 yet. And their reviewing Fifa on the assumption that anything fifa produces, pes will be better (like the past years).

I think that, if these games were reviewed side by side, or even pes first and fifa later, then fifa would get a much fairer review.

anyone going to download the pes demo on thursday? i might, but it sure as hell wont be interfering with my fifa playing.

I think that's a good point. There does seem to be a 'status quo' in a section of the games media that believes anything Fifa can do PES naturally does better. Your average reviewer seems to be still in the PES camp.

I think things are slowly changing, though, as we've seen with some of the favourable reviews of Fifa this year. Realisation is dawning. Slating Fifa doesn't seem to be the cool thing to do any more.

As for the demo: I will probably try it at the weekend. The first couple of days will be Fifa time!

Just seen a slight flaw with the offside ruling.

Playing as Lyon vs PSG, one of my defenders was down injured about 10yards out from the edge of my penalty box, on a counter PSG played a long ball over my defenders who were right near the centre line, their striker latched on it, clearly being played onside by my injured defender by miles, but it was given offside. Obv good for me in that match but if that happened online, you'd be pissed.

It's getting a bit dull to be honest. The graphics whore in me is pining for a rainy night match to add a bit of atmosphere and variety.

Also the bug, where the goalkeeper suddenly get that magic touch, where he can sweep the ball with his invisible hand extender. Even if the finish is going to the top corner and he makes a Superman jump and save it with his ..... dah dah dah ....... INVISIBLE HAND EXTENDER! :oooh:

That's the things that annoys me the most.

Played 25 games in Manager Mode now, and I'm in Feb.

Every single game, sunny and during the day. No weather, no night matches.

It's getting a bit dull to be honest. The graphics whore in me is pining for a rainy night match to add a bit of atmosphere and variety.

Noticed a bit of a bug too, now and again, when a forward is running on to a through-ball, they turn around and jog backwards, even though the ball is goal side of them.

Hope that bug is fixed. Looks so lame, when the ball goes through their body. You won't notice it, when you knock of a belter like that, but then watching the replay, it doesn't feel that great, when you see what just happened.

Yes, this is something I really dislike. I'd rather they undersized the hitboxes so that the ball goes through the goalkeepers hand rather than the other way.

It is especially annoying when you do consider how many goals in real life that the goalkeeper is <10 cm away from. Lots and LOTS of goals have the goalkeeper juuuuust missing with his fingers, and if you have balls 10 centimeters away being saved, that will give a huge dent in the goal statistics, despite the small margins.

I hope they somehow fix this in the future so that the hitboxes and the player model are linked perfectly, so that the ball has to hit a player for it to be deflected.

Well the DID admit they barely touched manager mode this year didn't they?

I fully expect a revamped manager mode in 2010, complete with champions league nights and Monday Night Football and seasons changing accurately with the calender.

THAT IS A MINIMUM EA.

So easy to implement too. The tech is right there in the engine.

Correct Stadiums for finals too. Again, it's all there in the engine. Just need someone to redirect venues and weather accordingly.

Set your PS3 to 720p. It will help, I don´t know why it looks blurry on 1080p.

Is this problem in final version?

The BAP mode sounds immense as you described it! Looking forward to that mode now.

I played 4 games on World Class, and couldn't even get a shot away, let alone score. On the fifth game, my mate arrived and took control of the rest of the team: the first match with him resulted in my player scoring twice. In the second match I scored a hat-trick and received a 9.6 rating. WOO!
The intelligence of the runs and passes a human makes are still leagues ahead of AI.

I would like to hear playing against different teams not feeling much difference from a few other people.

Personally i can fell the diffences when playing against different teams. Both in the style that they play and the effect that it has on my team. I've had games where i couldnt get out of my half. I've played against teams using long ball, putting in lots of crosses, playing short quick passes, slow biuld up etc. Also seen a difference in dificulty, depending on which team im playing, even down to defensive mistakes by the cpu. Its no way like last years in my opinion.

Now i think about it i dont really remember too much difference in teams when playing iss/we/pro. This is a better representation for me. Play Orient then play Barcelona and you will see.

Any good? Laggy?

Do you still have to wait for 5 minutes in the lobby for people to join, and some people can still be a prick by refusing to choose which side to go on and everyone else has to wait? Or can we kick these fuckers out now?

And when the match kicks off, is it still the case that anyone pause the game? So now we have 20 instead of just 10 arseholes all pausing every five seconds?

Ok my rentals from Lovefilm arrived today and have spent couple of hours playing on both the 360 and PS3 versions.

First thing to report is that there is no differenece to me in either version, they look graphically almost identical and both have a solid framerate. That is good news as I felt last year FIFA 08 played better on the 360.

I played the demo a lot and again am pleased to report that if you like the demo then you will love the final version. It is without doubt the best football game that I have ever played, it looks great, plays great and gives you as sort of emotional attachement. I have also found playing as different teams gives a unique feel to the match, for example played with my friend and first we played Bolton v Blackburn, both the teams don't have the most technically gifted players and therefore possesion was lost frequently and the game was very franatic, also both teams had "big men" up front so it resulted in a more direct approach. After battling it out I managed to win 1-0 with a late goal.

Next we played Madrid v Barcelona and again it was a different kind of experience. Both teams have better players so the game was less franatic and passing was much better and the game was much less direct as the ability of the players gives you more options, I also found that the better quality of the strikers meant that they made more intelligent runs. This again was a tight affair which my friend edged 2-1.

I have to say that I am very impressed by this, never played a football game with this kind of depth and am really looking forward to playing it over the coming months. The bad news is that I have played 12 matches in MM and they have all been played in daylight and the weather was sunny for all of them. This is very disappointing and takes away from MM for me, I was led to believe that in MM there would various weather conditions and matches would be played and different times of the day. I also found that just occassionally players did random things that you could not control (ie through ball puts them one on one with the keeper and for some reason they decide to run in the opposite direction).

These few niggles aside have to say that EA have done a superb job. This game takes not just football gaming but sports gaming to another level, the gaming experience is very immersive and multi-player is going to make this game really shine and we are going to see some very competitive online leagues.

I am also looking forward to PES2009, if they can get rid of the bugs and make online work properly then PES will give me a different kind of gaming experience and that for me is a positive, what would be the point of having 2 identical games on the market.

Well, not wishing to pour cold water on things but the same is true of FIFA08. Playing Wycombe v Chester was a very different type of match to Man U v Barca in FIFA08, just as you described above for FIFA09.

Every year, people used to wax lyrical about PES too, about how this years verison was light years ahead of last years, that real football was finally realised on a console, that never before had such realism been achieved.

Then I play it for myself and find it's pretty much the same as last years.

Not having a go at you personally, just a general comment about how there is invariably a certain amount of over zealous fervour during the first few macthes of the new game, people describing "amazing" passages of play that were more realistic than real life, yet if they took the time to think about it, would realise that these exact same passges of play were in last years game too (in the case if PES, the year before that, and the year before that, too), but because people are in a more receptive and analytical mood at the release of the new game, spot things that have just passed them by for the past 10 months of playing last years game.

Good point, haven't checked.

1 thing I did notice though, is during cut-scenes and replays, there are 2 little boxes in the top left, and if you want to skip, the your box gets a tick, so you can watch the goals if you wish, but also can see whether your opponent does or doesn't.

There's a quick rematch too.

It's FUCKING annoying.

I'm now waiting for Fifa 10, and 09 isn't in even in the bloody shops yet.

I know how you feel. I was checking my credit card every hour over the past few days to see if the money had been taken yet. I think I'll be able to stop checking it now and if I don't get the game early (as I'd been hoping) that's fine by me.

I really am that keen on single player. I grew up playing ML on PES games, and now with FIFA09 we have an unprecedentedly high level of football gameplay hitched to a mid-1990s single-player mode. I mean, for God's sake. We've had dynamic weather effects in football games for TEN FUCKING YEARS now. I can remember it thundering and lightning in FIFA99.

Now they can enable 10 vs 10 online but they can't make it rain occasionally in single-player, they can't have midweek matches at night, they can't have a proper transfer market, they can't design competent AI managers, and they can't have playoffs in leagues where they have playoffs? I'm disgusted by this, really I am.

No doubt I'll calm down and still love FIFA09. But I won't love it nearly as much as I could and should have.

As for that much-trumpeted 10 vs 10 mode, I doubt I'll ever even try it. I got WipeoutHD the other day and I have played that online a bit. Sometimes the game hosts can take a few seconds to press start and it annoys me so much that I quit. So no, I'm not really an online kind of guy...

The bad news is that I have played 12 matches in MM and they have all been played in daylight and the weather was sunny for all of them. This is very disappointing and takes away from MM for me, I was led to believe that in MM there would various weather conditions and matches would be played and different times of the day.

The MM games are always played in daylight, even if you set the match to night in the friendly menu?

The thing with online is, you can't beat the feeling (for me as a Toffee) of beating somebody with a user ID like L1V3RP00L4EVR1753.

Smashing a few past an ardent fan of the red shite couldn't possibly be beaten by any AI.

I guess you've gotta enjoy your wins against us however you can get them eh? ;))

Sadly I do not know how to check for that either, maybe Placebo knows?? thanks and sorry for the trouble

Unless EA announce it, which they seem apparently reluctant to do, the only way that I'm aware of is to create an image of the actual game and analyse it with a piece of software which tells you what the regions are locked (or not) to. It's not something the average joe in the street can do themselves.

Much like when I beat Chelsea & Arsenal on FIFA08 EVERY time I played them, I knew it was completely and utterly real and things were changing round for the Yids, we were a world force. Until I held in the PS button and selected Turn Off System.

Really, I could almost weep to hear about Manager Mode being the same. I rarely play any game online and frankly I resent all the attention that developers lavish upon it. To the extent that in MM once again there are no night matches. How hard would it have been to insert one fucking line of code that'd run something like (in my best 1980s-style BASIC):

7000 IF dayofmatch=weekday THEN LET timeofday=night

Unbelievable. 5 minutes. Just 5 minutes, and it's sorted. Jesus H. Christ.

It's quite something when bleedin' Master League can outmuscle FIFA's equivalent.

its not as simple as that because AS THE DEVELOPERS SAID not all stadiums have night mode

Totally agree.

The same old same old starts to appear after a few weeks, especially against the CPU. Only buying football games for the online, the rest is pretty much scripted crap, especially when you get to the higher levels.

They're just speculating, they don't know for certain.

It's not about simple/difficult, according to their answer they made a decision not to implement it because of "inconsistencies".

Paste of a comment I made on the EA forums:

The excuse is that because not all stadiums have night versions created it would be "inconsistent" to have some midweek matches at night, and some midweek matches in day, depending on which stadium the match was at. But the simple fact is that I can pretty much guarantee that 99.999999% of people who care about manager mode would rather 2 out of 20 stadiums have midweek night matches rather than 0 out of 20.

yeah inconsistent because not all stadiums have night mode :SS so if a night fixture was played at a stadium with NO night mode then it would be weird

What's more surprising is they've had in Madden for f*cking donkey's years - snow at Lambeau since PSX I'm pretty sure...

Pretty piss poor, wonder if they can fix that with a patch if enough people complain?

Can anyone confirm (i doubt at this early stage, but meh) if the football league have play-offs this year.

If not, this is going up for sale as soon as it arrives from game as the manager mode will be ruined for me (again).

How would it be weird? If you have a midweek match at a stadium with no night mode then the match is in daylight, if there is a night/dusk mode then it's in that, certainly far less weird an option than midweek matches in winter in perfect daylight........

To those who have played games online can you save replays/goals?

At this moment in time you can't save replays at all (servers obviously aren't going to be up until Friday(ish)), although you can save screenshots.

But this really is shocking - as I know you will personally appreciate, not only as a keen MM fan, but also a fan of a lower league side.

I'm not bothering with FIFA in this case as thats a joke.

Yes it's very frustrating of course, not to mention the fact of no night matches in manager mode, no weather changes in manager mode, and apparently now no squad number assigning in manager mode, but based on the demo it's still the best football game available by far......

Not really! I like to build a small team up and work through the leagues. This means (again) that you have to finish top 2/3 to get promoted and in effect, if you are 10th/11th/12th-ish mid season, you might as well give up as you've got no chance of going up.

The Play-Offs give hope for much longer in the season making the game more interesting. Without play-offs, its boring as you either have to win 90% of your games, or you are just playing for nothing.

Like Spurs, nearly pointless.

BAH! Its knee-jerk as I am interested in the BAP mode, but at the very least, I'll sell it on in 2 weeks as I think PES is looking strong this year and I still really like PES2008.

Is it possible for EA to patch some of these schoolboy errors in the manager mode, and if so what are the chances of them actually doing it?

For them to produce such a great game of football and go and tarnish the single player mode by leaving out the basics that have been in other football/sports games for years (weather, time of day, play-offs, squad numbers) is ridiculous.

I'm still amazed at this (and the fact I didnt check sooner! DOH!).

I even complained for the first time to a video game company last year when I found 08 didnt have play-offs in. Got a very generic and condescending reply - wont bother contacting them this year.

Did the forum throw up any responses to this when it was announced/discovered Placebo?

Yea, looks like they are really going for online in a big way. Typical though, you can imagine the FIFA2010 press release.

"This year, we really listened to the feedback and pleased to announce that Play-Offs are featured in ALL leagues. This is a feature we were dieing to have in and we know our fans were too, but it just wasnt possible before - well, now we've delivered as part of our 350 new changes to this years game."

Fuckers!

I know online modes are the priority right now, and that's fair enough, but were talking about very simple issues with the manager mode that wouldn't take much time or manpower to put right. Surely it would only take a small team of people a couple of days to program in night matches and weather in manager mode, and also play-offs and correct competition formats (Sensible World of Soccer had all the correct competition formats 15 years ago).

I don't buy the excuses that EA don't have the time or resources to concentrate on MM.

sweetkilla
1 October 08, 00:21
guys I know you guys are pissed at manager mode but they really put all their efforts into one bag this year online!

and I am sure next year all these manager mode complaints will be non existant and hopefully they tie in manager mode with be a pro also and (online)

But then again i wouldnt thought be hard to implement some of things said here for 09.

sweetkilla
1 October 08, 00:25
yep the online modes will only need to be pushed to 11v11 and allowing you to use be a pro players for each position

and the rest will stay the same pretty much!

then all the offline modes should get attention and I will love to play them again manager mode has been the same since fifa 05 so its a bit of a joke... seeing the same messages u saw then and outcomes lol
