There is no confirmation on this either way if my memory serves me correctly, however, I believe you will NOT be able to play in Be a Pro in this way at all. One person per console at maximum.
However, you can play normal matches in this way. On the 360 you can play 4v4, so presumeably on the PS3 you can play 7v7. 7 players on your console, vs 7 against someone else.
This would be in normal cooperative play, rather than a locked-to-a-player system.
Its only 2v2 on the Xbox, it will only accept 4 controllers in total

IMO the point isnt to play just a 100% simulation of football (that would be uncontrollable and boring....) the point is to play a GAME that lets us controll footballers 11v11...and the most skilled RL player to win not the one who has the higher stats....
Thus in order for KONAMI to compete with EA they should ditch all that stat mumbo jumbo and pre match tactics....just make all players the same skill...as its in FIFA...
I'm thinking/hoping this is meant to be ironic ;)
- in FIFA the player stats also do have impact on their performance.
- I want a mixture of gamer skills and stats (like TopSpin3): bad players/teams are hard to control, need skillfull gaming and vice versa
anything different will be an arcade fest

I think there could be a way to combine "stats" and "manual control" .
The higher the stats ,the less you 'll mess up the pass, the shooting, the through ball. It could work

Damn that's the whole point I feel, I want as close to a 100% simulation, surely by that logic you find football boring?
2 human teams of 11 playing each other should be awesome, especially if they know what there doing...

Tactics for example. We canīt use our custom tactics online and thatīs bad. I used to play with Chelsea just because I liked their 4-3-3 formation. But I would prefer to use that formation in Real Madrid and I couldnīt. FIFA needs more tactical customization online (offline is good and this year is even better).
Also we should have the option to play with D-pad and yeah.. I know the game has 360 degree but what if I prefer to play with D-pad? Doesnīt matter if I loose 360 degree. I just wanted to play with the D-pad because I hate analog..
Wow, so misinformed...

Fairly sure you're wrong. Offline, it's 2v2, 3v1, 4vCPU, but online, you can do 4v4 as far as I can remember (fairly sure I've done it before).

See you dont get it...real football is slow...its 1.5 hours for christs sake....and sometimes (alot of times) it ends 0-0...Can you play 1.5 hours each match? I doubt it...Also do you like that in real football a team with quality players smashes (usually) the weaker opponent? This is what pes have done with the overzealus stats representation....Fifa made the wise choice to make players less dependant on the stats so the players skill counts and not the team that he controlls....

I think the time is irrelevant, and you are never going to get 100% simulation, but I want it to be as close as they can get it. I don't understand the point about quality beating weaker opponents, that's what should happen.
As for the stats there are PES fans screaming from the roof tops that PES lets you feel you are controlling individual players and on FIFA they all feel the same and "floaty like".
I'm not having a dig and I don't play online at all with PES and only twice with FIFA, so I can't judge them.
Would it be better if for every player in 11 v 11 you had a basic player ie all strikers had the same stats, all midfielders had the same stats etc, then you had say 30pts you could allocate yourself to improve whatever you wanted?
Not sure how it's set to work on 11 v 11...

Aye. I'm not entirely convinced how well it'll work to be honest. I suppose it's good for random unranked online games or offline multiplayer games where you see your mates every week.
My main interest is MM and BAP though so I'm not sure I'll even notice the form much.

Not only possible, but easy. :)
The analog stick allows you to aim anywhere you want, and the stats control how much the pass/shot/cross etc will deviate from the intended aim/power/etc, aswell as make mishits more or less likely.
So just because you give PES manual control over shots rather than the autoaimed ones, you can't hit the top corner every time, because the stats are configured to introduce as much randomized outcomes as real life does.
Obviously, if you suck at using the analog stick, you will have inaccuracy both in the direction you aim the analog stick, aswell as the stats further messing up the ball path. So human skill and practice is required to master the intended aim with the analog stick, and only having the stats of the players in the game introducing unwanted effects to the aim and such. :)

The attributes already do what you guys are talking about but I guess you want it to interfere even more. Not so sure about that though. I rather see passes go bad when trying to pass behind your back or have the ball in a bad position than standing perfect but resulting in a bad pass just because of attributes.

"than standing perfect but resulting in a bad pass just because of attributes"
Well, since it happens in real life, I don't see why it shouldn't find its way into a football simulation. Obviously if the players are in good balance, even a poor defender would be able to strike a good pass with consistent and fair accuracy, but it needs alot more nuance and range than it currently does IMO. :)

Yeah but mostly a bad pass would be because of him being in a stressful situation and FIFA doesn't simulate that. So I agree that in such situation the chance of a bad pass should be more frequent, but if a defender would totally miss a pass without being pressed it would just piss me off and it would feel that the cpu was trying to cheat. It's a tricky situation because you want to feel in control but also that attributes should play a big role in the game.
Edit: The thing is that on manual controls your own stress will be shown in the game. Because you would not aim as perfect at you do when not under stress, just like when playing real football. I think there should be minor difference in how you aim and the result because of attributes, like it is now. And shooting does not always go where you point, because attributes and position is important here, especially position to the ball.

i was scratching my head a bit at the penalty shootouts. i couldnt always get the ball to go where i wanted. after some experimenting i realized the shooting doesnt work the same way it does during the game ie the power bar does not serve as a height bar or gauge.
if i just point and hold to the area of the goal i want to shoot at with the left stick and then press and hold the shoot button (the more power the better up until the threshold which is about 3/5 of the bar) then the ball seems to go where i want it to.
again sorry if this is posted already or is common knowledge amongst you all. just trying to help!

The way it works, basically, is you have two different aspects of the aim. With your analogue stick you can choose left, right, and middle, and up, down, or straight. That should give you around 9 places, though I'm slightly confused with how the middle aim works.
When you use the power, the more power the further towards the edge of the goal the ball will go. If you shot to the left, it will go further left, if you shot to the right, it goes further right, and if you shoot at the middle, it goes further up.
So, you can probably, basically hit around 15 different areas of the goal by choice (although, it is totally organic and you can hit towards pretty much any bit).
If you hold RB/R1 (depending on console) it does a finesse version, whether this actually makes any gameplay difference, not that sure. You can also use LB, to do a chip shot... but this always goes down center. Don't ask me why.

Good they gave it 9/10 but what do they mean it's for people who still refuse to embrace Pro Evolution? WTF is that? And controls still not as good as Pro Evo? These mags are really blinded by how good PES 'USED' to be.
i totally agree they still have this image of hoe pes used to be in their heads when they are reviewing FIFA.
they give it 9/10 which is a very gud score then the say its for people who reuse ti embrace pes what with that?...
and i have read in another review that said fifa was very good and they tried to make it sound shit y saying it was too realistic...since when was a football being realistic a problem?..isnt that what both EA and KONAMIare aiming for?...and think this year FIFA is the closest tothe real game and i know that where my money will be going come 3rd october....i will still play PES2009 but i know i will enjoy FIFA09...i even loved the demo and suff from WENB said they had even taking out some animations and stuff...even how the final product willbe like..amazing i say...
oh well maybe these reviewers who love PES too much will come to learn that FIFA is now the better game...will all know really thelove it when they play FIFA they are just trying to hide it...to keep thier fans lol
Coopz
25 September 08, 12:02
if fifa had the PES resposiveness, it'd crush pes on every aspect.
we're still driving tanks.
Thats the whole point of realism!!
you don't have players in in real life that can instantly change direction when running because you would just fall over at that speed
At the end of the day you either have realism or arcade style
PES is the latter because of this

After reading that I can safely say there isn't enough depth in FIFA, nowhere near. I won't be playing it this year, I'm sticking with PES.
...Can you seriously imagine someone saying that, without sarcasm, after reading that?
Stunning, absolutely stunning. The depth in the engine is just unreal. Definitely the closest thing to real football we've ever seen, I don't understand (whilst not meaning to sound "shitty" for want of a better word) how anyone could argue with that. The amount of calculations and possibilities is just crazy.
I'm going to put the demo on now and try to get used to the low shooting method they describe.

Let's be honest, anyone who reviews PES2009 higher than FIFA09, is fundamentally warped. What exactly DOES it have? A few player likenesses which are better, and editing.
I'm going to read that guide a few times, though some of it is 'dum dum' obvious and it could be a little more helpful giving the CONTROLS for some of the stuff.

Surely they wouldn't release a trailer featuring rain and snow if that was true - they would get slaughtered by the buyers.
Our preview copies are due to arrive sometime within the next week, I'm sure we'll confirm it either way as soon as we have it.

On the FIFA 09 website, I can't find any murmurings of weather any more :/ Whether there were any before, I'm no sure.
Chris Davies
25 September 08, 13:28
I wouldn't mind there being no weather effects either; it's the fact that they were featured in the trailer. If they're not in the game then that's very disappointing. They were in Euro 2008 and it was a great little addition.

The trailer and screens was a lie !
Chris Davies
25 September 08, 13:32
why EA no put the weather in ? its lot of work ??
It is a lot of work because it's not just graphics; it effects the gameplay as well. Rain in Euro 2008 made the ball slow up and made the game a lot harder.
But if it's in screenshots and trailers it has to be in the final game, surely?

If you remember, there was a FIFA review that said online Be A Pro/Live Seasons wasn't included in the game, and it is... The trailer featuring weather is even included in the demo (if you leave the pad alone while the "press start to play" screen is on) - I'm sure this is a mistake by the magazine in question.

Rodelero
25 September 08, 13:43
There is still a screenshot on the website with weather, and quite a few show overcast. In the demo, in the settings, the option 'Condition' - odd name if it just means night and day, says 'Play Under the Natural Light of Day, or Under the Stadium's Floodlights'. I agree with Chris though, this is pretty much paranoia... then again, I can't think of anything about weather in any review, or the website as far as I can see/remember/

From A Video Interview Of Simon Rutter That If The Weather Is Overcast There Will Be A Chance Of Rain....there Is No Weather Setting For Rain In Fifa 09. If U Are Playing In Overcast Weather It Might Rain, It Might Not. And The Rainfall Is Realistic In The Sense That It Can Stop Raining And Start Again. It Doesnt Just Rain For The Entire Match.
However There Will Be No Instances When The Ball Gets Stuck In A Puddle Like In Euro 2008 Because Rutter And The Guys At Ea Say This Disrupts The Game (some Of U May Not Like This But I Personally Think Its A Good Idea)

I actually didn't see any "weather" in the game. It is there but, you can't set it in the game settings menu. It's a random occurrence. Rain and snow are likely to appear in games that have the overcast option for the stadium.

Honestly, if in MM the European games are not at night then I will have a hard time buying this game. It drove me nuts playing all the games at night or during the day. If EA wants to make this as "real" as it can be, that seems like a such a simple fix. I was astonished at the lack of accuracy for Fifa 08 on PS3 when Fifa 07 on PS2 was just about spot on.

Why in the world couldn't they add that in? It makes no sense to me... Of course, I don't know the ins and outs of game development, but wouldn't it be a simple transfer of code from one platform to another?
What is silly is it feels like FIFA takes one step forward, one step back. Great, we may get weather effects that we can't control but there was snow years ago and you could play with the orange ball... why did they ever take it out?
I am not a PES fan what so ever - who can take the time to play as merseyside red - but this news is just silly. Maybe I am being too harsh...

Me, considering manager mode has had fuck all improvements where as Online is heavily built onto from Fifa08, Be a Pro is heavily built onto from Fifa08 there are those of us manager mode fans who were holding out for a few small crumbs of hope like variable weather, midweek night matches, AI fatigue rotation, AI playing purchased players......

i know if i was the other team i would be slightly annoyed.
anyone else had this happen?
this can't happen in the released version, red card offences stop play immediately.
i was very impressed by the defensive error that lead to the goal though. the schalke defender stretching to get the ball and not getting enough of a connection to clear the cross. it looked very realistic

last night i accidentally took someone out off the ball with Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Then after gaining possession and putting a cross in, with a little help from a schalke defender heading it on i smashed the ball in with Ruud Van Nistelrooy. who then was shown a red card for the previous offence.
i know if i was the other team i would be slightly annoyed.
anyone else had this happen?
this can't happen in the released version, red card offences stop play immediately.
Yeah that is a bit bobbins, hopefully fixed.

You don't HAVE to stop the game to produce a red card, so if the ref felt the opposition team had a good advantage he should play on and show the red card at the next stoppage in play. Unfortunately it just happened to be a goal scored by the player to be sent off!

That depends on some things Tim7. I talked to a professional ref and he said as soon as the player that is going to get the red card touches the ball, the play have to stop and the second yellow or straight red will be shown. If he never touch the ball then the game go on and the result could be a goal and then a red card to the player.
If he touch the ball and gets his red card the ref drops the ball between two players. Don't know what it is called in English.

As NC says, a drop ball, however if it's a match between Spurs' first team and the Spurs reserves, it's regarded as a merciful suicide bomb.

but in real football if there is an off the ball inccident then usually play stops immediately due to the players stopping and the ref getting invovled to resolve the situation

8.5 Graphics
Hardly an improvement, but still a step ahead of the opposition.

So exactingly realistic it can be off-putting and not without a few gripes, it's still the best FIFA yet.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
The Adidas Live Season will keep it fresh for the next 12 months, and the online modes are a triumph throughout.

8.0 Graphics
The same good looking animations and player models return, even if they do move a bit slower. Now if they could only give gamers more control of what's going on.
So the graphics are "hardly improved" yet they graciously give 0.5 extra for no reason?
Considering that the player models are noticeably more realistic looking I fail to see where they get the "hardly an improvement" from, at least they do admit that Fifa is better looking than PES........

That's the problem with all reviews so far. They prefer PES, and I'm starting to think it's not because of the style of PES but because the game is called PES.
First they preferred PES because it was more realistic. And now they admit that Fifa is more realistic, but it's too realistic. What a joke.

I think for the longest time PES played such a better game than FIFA, it was more fluid and instinctive, but when you look at it beside a real football game the speed was always way too fast along with the way the ball would whip around too...
I think the jump from PES speed to 08 speed is too much for most PES fans to take, I hope the speed bar will make it easier for the PES addict to at least try FIFA...

This is one of the problems with reviews and such. They almost always color their comments, and are never concise or analytical enough.
In this case, it might be the case of the game having rain that alters the physics evenly on the pitch, and the "puddle" comment is just the reviewer adding a dash of color commentary to the feature. In other words, there might not be actual puddle formations on the pitch where the ball gets stuck, but it is just an unnecessary elaboration on the concept of "rain" from the reviewer.

you can see that Man city's homeground under "FOOTBALL GROUND" (they don't have the city of manchester stadium in fifa) isn't Estadio de las Artes is it?. Does this hint that we can choose stadium or at least you will get the right generic stadium for your league? In one of the video's they said that they really wanted to make you feel like you were playing all over the world with new stadiums and different crowds - so it would seem that they wont just chuck everyone in Las Artes?!

i personally think that the reviews for Fifa and PES are starting to annoys me.
In the last gen,PES was good because it was the ultimate simulation and it reflects how the sport is in reality. That was why they prefer PES over FIFA.
Now that the opposite is happening, FIFA is deeper and more realistic. They are saying now that they prefer to have the fun of PES.
I wonder what did Konami do to these reviewer to make them so dumb.

I think it's more "if we're a bit too honest about the game then Konami aren't going to give us anything to put in our magazine"...
Although saying that I'm sure they all genuinely do prefer PES to FIFA, simply because that's what they're used to, and they've played it so often and known it to be the most realistic for so long that they still imagine it to be realistic.

So, just read the review from ign.com. Their UK reviewer gave it an 8.9. I thought he/she was gonna give it a 9.3 or so going by what he/she wrote but the final score was an 8.9 which is still really good. An 8.9 from ign = a 9.5 from a respectable site. IGN giving it an 8.9 says alot about the greatness of this game. I predict they'll give PES at least a 9.2
I believe OXM and PSM gave it a 9.0 each as well. Judging by the demo, I would guess 9.0 myself. One thing to bare in mind is that ign is in business with Konami so obviously they cannot give fifa a higher score than PES. I personally feel that ign reviewer wanted to give it a 9.3 or so but felt compelled not to shoot his emplyer in the foot. :NONO:

Get in contact with the people who got the game early & tell them to come here because they can't speak up on the EA forums.

those reviews are all written by morons and I couldnt care less about the ratings
Absolutely, but the danger is that the developers care about what score their game gets. I always fear that they might adjust their philosophy about what direction they want to take the game in the future in order to appease the critics.
Hopefully, EA recognise how idiotic, uninformed and prejudicial IGN are and ignore their reviews.
IGN UK are cunts.
A bit harsh, I say they are merely cocks.

I just read a review from the maniac (one of the biggest german magazines).
they gave fifa 81% (pes 86% lol). their biggest negative point was that it is not possible to control via digital cross. you are forced to use analog controls. so there is only one conclusion to be made. they didnt even play the fuckin game. if was EA I`d call my lawyer now. last time I bought this crappy magazine full of idiots.
